Dear Revdex.com,
Grand Canyon University (GCU) is in receipt of Ms** *** complaint and we value the opportunity to respond The issue has been reviewed by the Regional Director of Operations, *** ***Based on that review, GCU has determined that Ms*** complaint was
appropriately resolvedThis determination is based on the following information:
Upon review of phone calls exchanged between Ms* *** and *** ***, Student Services Advisor, it was determined that Ms* *** was indeed correctly advised regarding GCU’s tuition refund policyThe policy states that for a student to receive a 100% tuition refund, the drop must occur “before” week 1.
GCU provides all incoming students with a Welcome Call in which important policies and procedures are addressedMs*** Welcome Call was conducted on 08/27/at 03:12PM, nearly a month before her start date
During this phone call, Ms* *** was informed of GCU’s participation and academic expectations as well as financial policies and procedures, including but not limited to the tuition refund policyGCU’s tuition refund policy states the following:
Students who drop/withdraw from a course/all courses are eligible for the following refund:
Before Week 100% tuition refund
During Week 75% tuition refund
During or after Week No refund
In addition to this policy being thoroughly reviewed with Ms* *** via telephone, the refund procedure was also detailed on the enrollment agreement she signed on 08/16/Additionally, this enrollment agreement explained the student’s financial obligation once posting into classA brief excerpt is listed below:
I am in agreement with the charges as indicated here and elsewhere in University publications and understand that my tuition, applicable fees, and other charges assessed in accordance with Grand Canyon University's published financial policies are my responsibility and due upon enrollmentI accept responsibility for any balance unpaid by Financial Aid, Direct Bill agreement, or resulting from a returned check or credit cardA $fee will be charged for all returned checksI understand that I am liable for all charges incurred after the date of this agreementFailure to pay debt as agreed may result in withdrawal from Grand Canyon UniversityIf it becomes necessary to enforce payment of this account, attorney's fees, court costs, and collection agency fees may be added to the amount owed
Lastly, the specifics of GCU’s refund policy are also detailed on page of the Student Policy HandbookThe Handbook can be found at the below hyperlink
http://www.gcu.edu/Documents/University-Handbooks/University-Policy-Handbook.pdf... /> Regrettably, we are unable to substantiate Ms*** claim that she was incorrectly advised regarding our refund policy
As such, Ms*** balance due will stand
GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner I hope the aforementioned information will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion
Sincerely,

I was told that I was qualified for financial aid and that they had accepted itI have not received any financial aid, I am feeling that I have been misled and having been told that if I withdraw before completing three classes I would have to pay out of pocket the entire cost for the course plus fees, which she said the class and fees is over $2,I was told as well that if I amount is not paid in full they would be calling frequently asking for payments till it's paid in fullThe cost of the class that I am being charged for is more than what they advertisedI called them multiple times and they did not answer the calls or questions that I had about financial aidTelling me that it would take a month or more for them to receive itThey locked me into three classes telling me that if I dropped out before completing all three classes, even with financial aid, that I would be paying over $2,plus additional fees out of pocket if I withdrewWhen I called to try and talk to a

I have requested assistance with attaining my degree given the situations I sent several emails directly to the Dean of Education and two of the Regional Directors I had sent in my official transcripts from Trinity Washington University to have the coursework reviewed for the Special Education non-categorical Master's degree I shared with staff at GCU that my provisional license expired (June 30th 2015) and despite the fact that I was advised my MsG*** that I would meet professional teacher standards under the Virginia Department of EducationI did pass the VCLA and the Praxis in Reading which demonstrates professional knowledgeI have taken the Special Education foundation/Framework course at Grand Canyon University that didn't count for anything with the Virginia Department of EducationThis course was not designed to examine the historical, philosophical, sociological, political, economic, and legal foundations of the American public education system therefore this cou

Dear Revdex.com,Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Ms*** ***’s complaint and we value the opportunity to respond The issue has been reviewed by the Southeast Division Associate Vice President, Jaime Leonard and, based on that review; GCU has determined that Ms***’s
complaint was appropriately resolved This determination is based on the following information:Ms*** enrolled into the Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education in Business Education and Technology for the Spring semester beginning on January 7th, She was enrolled into four classes for the semester; POS and SYM both starting on January 7th and ending on March 2nd, 2008, and BUS and INT beginning on March 10th, and ending May 4th, Ms*** attended the entire eight weeks of both POS and SYM 301, earning grades for both of the courses She also posted positive attendance in BUS 318, posting her biography on 3/11/and Week discussion question on 3/25/ As well, she posted into INT on 3/11/presenting a question to her instructor in the Questions for Instructor forum Per GCU’s drop/refund policy, students who drop after the 3rd week of the semester are not permitted a refund and are 100% responsible for the cost of the semester Below reflects GCU’s Drop/Refund Schedule By signing her Enrollment Agreement, Ms*** acknowledged GCU’s Finance Agreement that reflects this policyIn addition, she also acknowledged having received a GCU Academic Catalog and Student Handbook which contained the most up-to-date information and all University policies to include cancellation and refund policies Based upon this information, Ms*** is responsible for the tuition for her semester.Nontraditional Students Students who drop/withdraw from a course/all courses are eligible for the following refund: Week 1…………...…………100% tuition refund Week 2……………………… 75% tuition refund Week 3..………………………50% tuition refundAfter Week …………………No refundUpon further review, there were no issues with Ms***’s acceptance to GCU Students are conditionally accepted and provided the timeframe of the semester to apply for Federal Financial Aid and receive official transcripts in order to be matriculated and fully accepted to GCU Ms*** completed her FAFSA (Application for Federal Student Aid) on 2/6/and her Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling Interview on 2/19/ GCU did request her official transcripts; however, they were never received GCU does attempt to request official transcripts on behalf of students; however, it’s ultimately the student’s responsibility to provide them Because the transcripts were never received, GCU was unable to matriculate Ms*** and certify her loans.Although Ms*** is responsible for the cost of tuition for the spring semester, because there was minimal attendance in BUS and INT 463, GCU is willing to adjust the cost of tuition for those two courses The total charge for tuition is $4,($1,per course X courses) This will make Ms***’s balance owed $2,for the two courses she did fully attend; POS and SYM 301.GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner I hope the aforementioned information/actions will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion Sincerely,*** ***College of Education SE DivisionGrand Canyon University

Hello again,
Grand Canyon University is a great school with an awesome curriculum; however, their business practice can sometimes lack in understanding, knowledgeable outreach, and solution
Working hard to earn the twelve (12) credits needed to receive a stipend (which all student depends on for room & board, books, etc.) I was told too little too little too late that there will not be a stipend issued to me, why is this a problem? 1) this was never told to me, 2) the policy states that after twelve (12) completed credits and a GPA of 2.0, that a stipend is promised to eligible students, 3) to my understanding a stipend would have been dispersed after my last class on 3/12/if it were not for the continuance of classes which is draining my student loan funds
Personally, why would the school continue to deduct my funds if there is a limit, there is no point to continue if I cannot afford the classes, 4) I cannot retrieve my transcripts to continue at another facility (no

Dear Revdex.com,Grand Canyon University (GCU) is in receipt of Ms*** *** rebuttal complaint and we value the opportunity to respond The issue has been reviewed by the Regional Director of Operations, *** *** and based on that review; GCU has determined that Ms*** complaint was appropriately resolvedThis determination is based on the following information:Contrary to her complaint, Ms*** did sign a document agreeing to all charges listed on her accountAs mentioned in GCU’s original response, Ms*** signed an enrollment agreement on November 13, which clearly outlined her financial obligation, GCU’s refund policy, and GCU’s academic policies As well, Ms*** was also advised of her financial obligations and GCU’s refund policy via telephone during her Welcome Call which was completed December 12, 2014. In regards to Ms*** financial aid question, GCU is in compliance with all Department of Education policies with respect to disbursement of fundsMs*** listed financial aid as her intended method of payment when completing her application and completed all necessary financial aid documents prior to enrollment However, since Ms*** withdrew from courses so soon, she was only awarded a very small and prorated amount of *** *** totaling $ Should Ms*** decide to resolve her outstanding balance with GCU, we would be happy to return the disbursement of $to the Department of Education at her request Payment of $would address all of Ms*** charges in the term and allow for GCU to return the *** *** disbursement.Lastly, GCU staff is committed to returning all voicemail and email communication promptlyI returned Ms*** calls and left her voicemails on both February 2nd and February 17thShould Ms*** wish to speak with a GCU staff member, she can rest assured that all communication will be responded to promptly. I am supposed to do my student teaching this Spring (January 2017) and I am receiving NO COMMUNICATION from anyone I don't know when I start, where I start, or even who my mentor teacher is supposed to be This is after GCU pushed my student teaching back a semester! I have tried to locate Dean Kimberly L*** email address or phone number to contact her with this complaint personally, but I cannot find any information for her on the website, even in the Faculty directory! This is absolutely unacceptable My wife has multiple degrees (BS, MAT, Masters in Education, PhD in Education) and she has assured me that this is not the way this should be happening I should know information for next semester by now and I should not be fighting to get information on a daily basis

I was a Graduate Student, for one week, at Grand Canyon UniversityI was enrolled in their Master's Program in Nursing EducationI was mislead by my academic advisor, Tara P***She promised to stay with me throughout the program and guide me when necessaryHaving an academic advisor was something that I did not have at any of the other on-line schools I have been enrolled inTara also knew that I only had classes left to take, at a different university, in order to graduateThis college revised their nursing curriculum and these last classes weren't offered until Spring I shared, with Tara P***, the difficulty I had with my absent academic advisor at the school I previously attendedI informed her that having an on going relationship, with my advisor, was a necessary requirement, before I enrolled at Grand CanyonTara P*** assured me that she would work with me until I graduatedA few days before school began, I received an e-mail from a different person who

I was a student at GCU for approximately one yearAfter being overcharged on my financial aid, not getting the help I needed, and not feeling like I was learning anything, I dropped out with the intention of transferringThey used up all of my financial aid for the school year, despite not even being in school with them the second semesterThey should have owed me money to the tune of a couple thousand dollars for overpayment from my loans, but I only saw a small refund one timeHalf of my credits aren't even transferrable, and if I'd stayed, they would have sold me a worthless degreeThis place needs to be shut down before they prey on anyone elseNow I have to pay out of pocket at the new school when I should have aid left over

I am being billed for a class I did not takeI withdrew from the school before the class started and I did not turn in any assignmentsI also did not purchase a book or receive a grade for the class

In addition, per University records, on September 7, *** *** spoke to a GCU finance counselor regarding a potential payment plan for his balance and requested a follow up call later that week Per his request, numerous attempts were made to contact him to include: September 13, 2010; September 15, 2010; September 20, 2010; September 23, 2010; October 1, 2010; October 11, 2010; November 19, 2010; December 3, 2010; December 8, 2010; January 18, 2011, January 20, 2011; February 2, 2011, and February 8, However, each attempt which included a voice mail and/or email was unsuccessful as *** *** did not return any of those voice mails or emails from GCU.
Finally, on February 22, 2011, *** ***’ Finance Counselor finally received an email response from *** *** in which he stated that he ran into some issues with making his payments but that he planned on starting a payment plan as soon as possible *** *** also acknowledged that his email response was very late but that he would get in contact with his finance counselor to see what kind of payment plan could be made However, once again, GCU never heard from *** *** nor did it receive any payments from *** *** towards his account balance On March 10, GCU sent a letter to *** *** advising of the collections process and that his account would be sent to collections if payment was not made on his account

First off I had issues with different teachers during that time Some treating me like a child and being disrespectful to me One teacher, I even wrote an email to her supervisor as well as called him and heard nothing back
My student advisor was not much help to me, rarely returned my phone call or replied to emails He would give me the run around about questions I would ask I even voiced my concerns to him about my teachers he did not follow up This year when I asked him to switch my major it took him months to complete the process Also, this year after my financial aid was disbursed it took months for me to get a check On May my dad passed away and because of it, I decided to withdrawal immediately I emailed advisor and my enrollment counselor and told them However, my advisor called me a week later and asked me why I hadn't been in class I explained to him what was going on and he said he would put the paperwork in right away However, he called me again the following week, wondering why I hadn't been in class I had to explain again He finally dropped me that day
The one positive experience I had at GCU was my enrollment counselor He is amazing, always replies to emails even on his day off Calls you back immediately Gets the answers to questions even if he doesn't know them himself, he will ask someone who does He is a great example of what an employee should be
Recently I received a bill for GCU $ My advisor sent me an email about it and I replied back to him and asked him what the charges were for He did not reply I believe GCU gave me persistence credits and that once I withdrew, this is what I am being charged for I think this is utterly ridiculous and don't feel I should have to pay anything
