Health Insurance Innovations Reviews (96)

In a nutshell, they claimed to have sold me health insurance when they sold me everything EXCEPT health insurance. The representative continued to tell me that I had health coverage that would be effective 24 hours after the purchase. The representative lied to me.

Do not use Health Insurance Innovations. It is a scam company.

Like many others, I was simply trying to find affordable health insurance when I spoked to Health Insurance Innovations. Instead of decent insurance, I was unknowingly written a "6-month vacation plan", even though I directly told the salesperson at the time what I wanted to pay each month so that I could simply make sure I'd be covered if anything were to happen.

I received no notification when the 6-month plan expired, yet I continued to be billed for a bogus "accidental insurance" plan (as well as some other coupon-esque worthless package that provided a discount on eyeglasses, nutrition supplements, etc.), that was of no use when I recently had to stay several nights at a hospital. I now owe many thousands of dollars because of this joke of an organization, and there is nothing I can really do about it.

Reading over everyone else's reviews, this is clearly a scam company, created with a bait-and-switch mentality that is designed to hoodwink decent consumers who are just looking to be insured. Even the name "Health Insurance Innovations" is essentially a trick so that those of us being billed for bloated, nonsense insurance without checking will be scerewed over, thinking we have health insurance when we really don't.

Overall, this is a horrible, unaccountable, and unethical company. The fact that they are able to even exist is a testament to the sickening, all-consuming greed that has corrupt so many human beings.

I was looking for healthcare for myself since my current policy was going to terminate. After many phone calls I managed to speak with a rep from this company. He assisted me with a plan that was affordable and would meet my needs, too good to be true. He was a very good salesman, I purchased the plan that day. He told me I would receive an email within 24 hours to look over everything, I never did. I waited a few days, cAlled back and was told I would not receive anything until my plan became effective which was at the end of the month and my plan is effective Jan 1. I was not worried at that point. On Dec 28 I was billed, they were supposed to notify me before they did but did not. The did email my plan benefits and everything I had written down about the plan was completely different and paid nothing that he told me it would. I am paying a premium and getting no benefit from it. Now I can cancel within 30 days with a full refund which I did, however now open enrollment is over and I am without health insurance and pharmacy coverage. Very disappointed but at least I had no trouble getting my money refunded.

I have been waiting since Feburary 2016 for my insurance card to come in the mail and still have not received it. They have drafted $900 out of my account and I just cancelled account out & cancelled insurance policy! It's a scam! And I demanded them a complete refund on every dime they took out!! Please tell me I will get it all back within 3-5 business days like they said I would!!!??

By far the worst customer service I have ever had. Hands down. Do not do business with this company you will regret it.

Phoenix Arizona

My family was scammed h this company. We received the "membership" with no actual benefits. We were told that we had a PPO accepted by any doctor throughout the US and full prescription coverage with a max copay of $25 for brand name drugs.

When the cards arrived, we were enrolled in a prescription discount club, with no actual coverage. We have no health coverage either.

This company charged me more than $1,000 to sign up and pay the first month's premiums. I am so upset as we have a type 1 diabetic in the family and NO medical or prescription coverage whatsoever.

This company was complete scam, IT does not returns or emails, contacted this company over 13 times, spoke with a rep, that made it sounds like a company I needed for Health Insurance. Took my money, never receive cards or a written policy. Call 10 times, always got a email stating that they would contact me in 48 hours. Never got a call, about 2 weeks someone call to say that 10 days review was over. I was not getting a refund. The benefits that I needed and was told is not the same. Please that I work very hard and I don't have money to give away. Please let me know if anything can be done. Please give me a call or email me.

On Jan 10,2017 I signed up with this company for insurance..as I spoke with the agent for over an hour about what I needed and what I was looking for he assured me that this was a very good choice..I am self employed and pay for coverage out of pocket...I am my own company...on Jan 21,2017 648.00 came out of my bank for payment of coverage...Everything the agent told me while signing up was FALSE.....From my doctor being in network to my dentist which I asked specifically ...After being on the phone with this company back and forth for a total of 5 hours not only was the customer service HORRIBLE, from talking over me to being rude...I asked to cancel and they kept transferring my call to different people who tried to force me to stay with them...I asked for a full refund and I'm not sure if its possible...please be mindful that now open enrollment is closed so now me and my daughter will have to go a year without insurance and on top of that the IRS will charge me for not being covered... This company gave me the wrong information and misinformed me to make the sale..

There are too many other options out there, available to us, especially in this crunch time, to trust this not so scrupulous company. They took several hundred dollars from us, resulting in just having to pay alot more at doctor & full price for prescriptions. The life insurance part they lead with is very uncool & should be illeagal. I dislike anything negative, but if I can save even 1 person from getting caught up in this so called company's BS.....Look anywhere elsewhere!!! I wish CA had bans on them like Montana, wouldve saved me lots of headaches!

This company is a scam-I have alerted my bank to change my info. They took my money then less than 24 hours later when I had 10 days to cancel have sent me fake emails saying it's being canceled months away-They owe me a full refund and I cannot get anyone on the phone

I had the same issue as many others. I started my conversation with the agent very specifically stating I wanted an ACA-compliant plan. I was informed that the plan was indeed ACA-compliant and that I would receive a "Certificate of Credible Coverage." [Not sure what that it.] I was told that I could not receive any written details of the policy until I completed the application and filed for approval....but that I had at least 10 days to cancel. [That should have been my first clue. Reputable companies do not require you to pay to get the details on what you are buying.] After providing my credit card number, I received the documentation for me to sign electronically. Immediately on the first page in bold type, the plan said that it was NOT ACA-compliant. When I mentioned this to the agent, he insisted that I did not understand what I was reading. He wanted to stay on the phone with me until I signed. I noted that it said in writing that I had 2 days to review the documents. Clearly I had been misled and scammed. I am watching my credit card account very carefully to be certain that no charge appears.
HII is hiding behind a veil by saying that they have no responsibility for what the agents say. They know what is happening and are just as dishonest as those who represent them.

This the worest company I ever delt with. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, BUT TRY TALKING OR TRY TO CANCELL. STAY AWAY!!!!!!

This review is in response to the complaints below. Just a tip. HII doesn't sell the insurance, it just runs the financial accounts. I bought a STM plan that is billed though HII and after talking to my accountant a few of the issues were made clear. The STM plans do come with a 1095 B for taxes. They do not meet the ACA requirements but no one has yet had to pay a penalty for having STM, basically the penalty hasn't been enforced by the IRS at this point in time. So they say you won't have to pay the tax but it is a slight risk that you would be audited and have to pay it if you could not show the insurance card. Some other major insurance plans also don't meet ACA rules and the same thing there, no penalty has been enforced YET. I decided the risk of audit was too high for me as I am an independent contractor and get audited frequently. If you really need minimum coverage, this could prevent you from paying the tax, although it sounds a little fraudulent to not specify on your taxes that it was a STM.

If you want to cancel a STM policy you need to contact the agent or agents office that sold it. Mine was Everest and they were super easy to deal with. They confirmed the information my accountant had given me and refunded my original plan over the phone immediately. They also said the ACA department would contact me with information on plans that do meet the ACA and MEN standards. A

If you are on this page to file a complaint on not getting a refund, you are not dealing with the proper company. You have to contact the people that sell the insurance not the billing company. If you do contact HII to cancel, there is an online option to just click the coverage you want to cancel and it is done. The insurance isn't a scam, it is short term medical and is useful for people that don't make the healthcare.gov deadlines, need additional coverage or are between jobs.... It's pretty sad the Revdex.com reports HII as D+ as they are just a payment company.

Scam company , told me Iwas covered for dental and health insurance, took my money and next person told me youhave no dental. Got rushed to the hospital and weeks later I'm on the hook for 6500.00,your not a third tier company, your a bunch of crooks.Noone buy this insurance! Beware! !I'm sure they will responed to this review ,unlike a return call you,ll never get back

I should have known better, but so much has changed in insurance, and I recently lost my job. I used to have wonderful benefits through my workplace, so I haven't had to worry about insurance for years. When I called this company, or rather they called me, due to a request for information on the internet, Aldo, the representative I spoke to was very terse with me. I could hear others speaking in the background, which I thought was strange, because I have never heard of insurance agents working out of a call center.

I used to be a customer service rep who explained my company's benefits, and none of the words he was using were typical insurance jargon. I should have seen the red flag, but I just assumed they were trying to speak the language of the common man. Aldo bordered on rude, cut me off when I asked questions, and sounded like he just wanted to get me off the phone so he could make another sale.

When I got the charges, none of them were for health insurance, BUT I WAS signed up for fire insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, freedom spirit plus (whatever that is), and principle advantage (also, what is this??). I have cancelled the card I provided them and will be calling on Monday to cancel these plans. If I do not receive a timely refund, I'll be submitting a complaint against this company.

All in all, Health Insurance Innovations misrepresents their products and has terrible customer service. I would say that this "company" is a scam and I'm just embarrassed that I fell for it. I just wanted to check the "get insurance" box off my list so badly, that I accepted all the illogical things the "agent" said.

Fortunately I read the fine print before I signed the contract... I specifically asked if signing up for their plan would protect me from being fined under the Affordable Care Act, they assured me it would. Upon reading the contract, it stated the exact opposite. That this plan is not considered minimal medical coverage under the ACA and I would still be fined. How can a company lie directly to a consumer like that?!?
