Dear Danielle, We would like to explain the separate charges you are referring to in an effort to avoid confusion.  In regards to your RHIT exam, you are correct, the cost of the RHIT exam is $229 for members.   Congratulations on passing the exam! In regards to membership status,...

you are correct as you do not need to be a member to keep or maintain your certification.  As a member, there would be a yearly fee of $185 which includes your credential maintenance fee.  As a non-member, there would not be $185 membership fee.  In regards to credentials, for members the credential maintenance fee is included in their $185 membership fee.  However, for a non-member there would be a non-member credential maintenance fee of $150 upon reporting your 20 CEUs every two years within deadline.   Once the deadline has passed, there are extra charges involved to reinstate a credential.  The deadline to earn CEUs is December 31st of the second year of a cycle.  However, we allow everyone up until March 31st of the following year to report without any additional charge.   In regards to the one-time ICD-10 requirement, individuals who hold an RHIT credential need to complete six ICD-10 CEUs by March 31st in order to maintain their credential.  When this requirement is not met, a person’s credential would then reflect a revoked status.  To remove the credential from a revoked status, there is a $175 reinstatement fee that must be submitted no later than December 31, 2016.   After December 31, 2016, the credential will be permanently revoked which means that an exam would need to retaken in order to become recertified. you had mentioned that to take the exam you must be a member of AHIMA.  However, I do want to stress that this is incorrect.  AHIMA membership is optional and you absolutely do not need to be a member in order to apply for an exam.  Also on August 24, 2015, you had submitted a customer service inquiry, in written form via the web, to AHIMA asking for information in regards to the CCS credential.  An AHIMA representative replied to your inquiry on August 26, 2015 and provided you with a direct link our website with instructions that directed you to the CCS information on our website.  The CCS information would have included “Recommended Resources” which offered a variety of options that you could use if you chose to do so.  In other words, these resources were recommended not required.   [redacted] we do not have any record of you purchasing any products from us other than your AHIMA membership.   Would you have AHIMA order reference numbers that you can send to us?  On September 1, 2015, you submitted a customer service inquiry, in written form via the web, that we replied to on September 2, 2015.  Your inquiry was asking about clarification in regards to the ATT letter and 4 month eligibility period.  We explained that you would receive your ATT letter within 3 to 5 business days of purchasing the exam and then you would have a 4 month eligibility to schedule and take the exam.  Please note, we do not have any record of you purchasing the AHIMA exam.  [redacted] we will contact you tomorrow via the phone number we have on file to further discuss. you to verify your purchase and then once your purchase was made you would have immediately received a confirmation email and also within the week you would have received an ATT letter stating the exact name of the exam you would be scheduling. [redacted], once you went to the test center and decided not to take the test that you purchased, this was considered a forfeit of the exam. As stated in our Candidate Guide, which you confirmed you had read and agreed to as part of the application process for this exam, you are not eligible for a refund. However, after further discussion with you, we made a one-time courtesy exception and refunded you $238 on [redacted] 28, 2015. This refund was applied to the same credit card you used when you originally purchased the exam.
