LA Fitness Reviews (211)

More than five days without A/C working and corporate has not done anything about this issue. I emailed corporate with over 15 pictures of damaged equipment and over 10 issues and all I was told by "Bryan" was thank you we will look into it. What is there to look into? I've just done inventory on your gym, listed all of the issues and you have to "look into it"?

Associate manager mentioned this club gets an average of 8 new memberships a day, but you can't fix damaged equipment. You don't have enough funds to staff your gym, so you overwork your employees?

I mistakenly signed up for a personal trainer here, and the following day went back to have them cancel my contract (which said I had 3 days from signing to do so without penalty). 5 months later there has been no resolution at all, the gym is still charging me for services I have never used, and has now taken $974 from me for a contract that was supposedly cancelled within 24 hours of its signing.

They advertise free personal training when you sign up yet every time I ask about it they claim that there are no personal trainers available. I have left my name and number with a request to be contacted by a personal trainer multiple times yet I have not gotten a single call.

I like this location but this place is very dirty. I wish they would clean this location.I am very disappointed. Some of the equipment needs to be repaired. We did tell management and they said they would fix it and several months later the equipment was still broken. The place is so gross and dirty. I really dont understand why they do not clean it. This is such a disappointment.
Please someone address this problem

This business is unethical and immoral. My husband and I signed up for personal training as well as a membership with this gym. A certain manager in the facility constantly gives me sexual looks and makes me uncomfortable when I go to this gym by myself. Classes that are scheduled have been no call no show several times. Also, when I asked someone to help me open a locker the individual turned around and told me I don't speak English and continued to talk to his friends. I have had it! I then made a complaint to the "customer service managers" and I was told I have to go by the contract and they have no contract to be ethical and that if I wanted to pay 50% of my personal training fee I could leave. This place is AWFUL! I now I have no idea how I can even use my services. The only resolution they gave me was to drive to a gym 30 minutes away from my home. So LA Fitness is okay with sexual harrasment as well as racism as I am hispanic and apparently don't speak english.

After 8 years, I'm leaving LA Fitness due to fraudulent billing of Kids club for almost a year. Manager [redacted] at Whittier offered to refund 30 bucks, less than 1/3 of the charges they buried on my card. When I informed her I was quitting, she was more than happy to cancel my membership. Terrible customer service and thieves.

The LA Fitness employee Eric was extremely disrespectful. Did not allow a member and I to speak with the sales staff about a membership. Eric(LA Fitness Employee) claiming to be the manager, said to the member I was with, that his membership was revoked for suspension of training and without evidence to back up the claim. Which he (member) asked for. Eric didn't not allows us to speak with the sales staff about opening another membership, and threathened to call police, just because we wanted to speak with staff.

Stay away from LA fitness. Environment is very hostile. I cancelled my membership in person. Then I continue to get harassment calls about rejoining, and I said I already canceled because I don't live in the are anymore. They told me I can only cancel in person, when I already canceled in person. Customer service at headquarters does not help either. Continues to charge my credit card.
Their whole business model is a total sham. And I'm surprised they have been in business this long.

I signed up for a membership with LA Fitness's Kirkland, WA branch in 2013 (Totem Lake location). My membership was an add-on to my wife's preexisting membership, which she had already held for some time at that point. Three days later, I was pulled aside by club management and told that I could not, in fact, attend this particular club on a family plan, and that I'd have to update my membership to continue attending. They put me on the phone with a woman from the corporate office, who said that she would update my membership to a (more expensive) level that would allow me to continue attending the club. I didn't like the hard sell aspect of this, but I acquiesced because I genuinely wanted to attend the club.
Flash forward two years later: I've already cancelled my membership to LA Fitness, and I check my credit card statement. Lo and behold, they're still charging me, despite the fact that I cancelled my membership four months prior. I get in touch with them, and they inform me that I have *two* accounts - that's right, the "updated" membership from two years prior wasn't an update at all. It was a second membership, which I was being charged for *alongside* the first membership, which they never actually cancelled. They were double-billing me for the two years that I was a member.
Naturally, when I got in touch with Membership Services, they were quick to blame the victim, using condescending language which implied that this was all my fault for not having caught onto what they were doing sooner. They did say that they would refund 6 months' worth of my payments (three of which came after I cancelled my account, the other three of which I was being double-billed on), but nothing more than that unless I could provide written proof that a cancellation was filed. Of course, I can't do that, because they were the ones who were supposed to cancel it, and all of our negotiation had happened over the club manager's phone. Never mind the fact that no sane individual would sign up for a personal membership, then sign up for another one three days later at double the cost - it's apparently my fault for not noticing that I was being screwed over soon enough.
For anyone who might be considering doing business with LA Fitness: don't. Please, take it from me - it's a terrible idea. Go to 24 Hour Fitness, go to Gold's, go literally anywhere else. If you do decide to sign on with these guys, watch them like a hawk. And if you wind up getting pressured into changing your account, and then double-billed for your trouble, don't be surprised when they blame you for it after the fact.

Today I printed out a 3 day pass that LA fitness offer on their websites. When I arrived there I told the front office why I am there and showed my pass that I printed, I also noted that I do not want to sign up today I just want to use the gym. She told me my pass has to be activated and I have to sign before I can use the gym with my three-day pass. I said Ok and then the front office worker directed me to one of the sales person named [redacted]. I also told him that I do not want to spend time there talking since I have limited time and I don’t like to make same day decisions, I also told [redacted] that I used to be a member so I know how everything is. I requested that my pass to be activated. Hearing that, [redacted], told me I can't use the pass since I used to be a member. I told him it was about 7 or 8 years ago. It was in 2008, if I am not remembering wrong. He, then told me I cannot use the pass and he insisted that I should sign up instead. I told him I am not here to sign up today I am here to try out. I also told him that the pass I printed out does not say anything about not being able to use the pass for the previous members. At the end, he told me he cannot let me use it. I asked him to call the manager and he told me his manager is busy and I need to wait. After I waited a while, I decided that it does not worth waiting and wanted to leave. Before I leave, I wanted to manager know what is going on and at the time he [redacted]- was with another customer. Because I did not want to wait anymore I told him the issue very quickly since he was busy with another person and all he did to say "OK". Then, I asked him and the other sales person, [redacted] to give me their cards because I want to show him that I should be able to use the pass. He told me he does not have card and the I asked him to write down his name for me please and [redacted] told me I have the name on the 3 day pass paper I printed out. While I was checking out the paper he got up, walked towards me, grabbed the paper angrily while I read it and told me "get the f... out of here". I was shocked to hear that and I told him I do not have to leave. Another person approached to us and [redacted] continue to curse and asked that person to “kick me out of the building”. That person approached me and asked me to leave this time without cursing. I left the building feeling sad. After leaving the gym I had to sit in my car for a while because it was hard for me to accept what just had happened. I am feeling extremely sad. I am hoping justice. My plan for that morning was not definitely what had happened and I was sad. I called the member services and asked if the 3-day guess pass can be used by a former member of the gym". He told me I can certainly use it if it is more than six months. Well mine was about seven years ago and yet they had not let me use the pass. I cannot remember the name of the person I talked on the phone but he tried to solve the issue, he contacted to the LA fitness San Marcos and called me back telling me their story is different than mine. I told him I would expect that to happen. While I was talking we disconnected. I tried calling him but was not able to reach. He called me back about two hours later, apologizing that we disconnected, and accepted that I should be able to use the pass. I told him I no longer want to make a business with such disrespectful personnel’s. I return home and did a little research and found out I am not the only one [redacted] R Mistreated. For the same reason. Once they figure out a person who want to use the gym and do not consider signing up on that same day they simply jeject the customer and not let them use the pass thy advertise.
Here is a copy of another person complain for the same reason…….”First day of the year and I go o the la fitness with my guest pass that I plan to use for maybe a couple days before signing up for the monthly membership. Basically didn't have time to set up a monthly membership on the spot (gym was going to close within an hour) so I said I would in the next day or two and just wanted to work out that day only on a guest pass. This is my first time using a la fitness guest p/[redacted] in my life by the way.
INSTEAD, I GET TURNED AWAY ONCE I GET INSIDE TO THE FRONT DESK. AND, BY THE GENERAL MANAGER(I believe his name is "[redacted]")” (http://www.yelp.com/biz/la-fitness-san-marcos, 02/09/16)

Awful. Mistake on our part is we let them hurry us into signing before we fully read. They failed to give a copy of contract but we never received it. Couldn't get proper answers to what we needed to do to cancel. We did everything they told us to do to cancel but continued to charge us and then said we didn't cancel properly. Was no point in pursuing legal action because legal bills would be more than anything we could hope to get back. They are crooks, liars and don't truly care about the customers. I am surprised they are still in business and have as many gyms as they do.

Ugh so pissed at LA Fitness!! They bug you for weeks to re-sign and offer to give you a two week complimentary guest pass. When I went to use the guest pass today for my son who is out for Christmas break, they started giving the run around about my son being a previous member and it didn't apply to him!! WTH kind of horse [redacted]!!! Typical bait and switch tactic. The guy really pissed me off when he started questioning my integrity about the last time my son used a guest pass!! Their web site says every 6 months and the last time he used a guest pass was in April for Spring Break. The Chicken [redacted] wouldn't give me his name, when I told him I was going to give him a bad review, I think his name is Kevin a guy with a tattoo on his neck (real classy). He threatened me and told me to lower my voice "or else" He told his underling to call the police because I threatened him!! Raising my voice is threatening him?!? His manager apologized but I was still pretty pissed when I left! Arturo the manager was actually pretty nice but Kevin should take some classes in customer service! In a separate incident, I signed my son up for this past summer and specifically told them I only wanted a two month membership during my son's summer break. I used a pre paid credit card for the cost of two months membership and I was very adamant it was just for two months. On the third month they tried to bill the credit card! Surprise, surprise! They called me and had the nerve to tell me I owed them for cancellation! Sorry, I'm not paying!!!

I was also lied about the terms of my contract which now, I have learned that is theier way of ripping of customers. They enrolled me in a personal trainer contract for 52 weeks, for $280.00 a month. It is way too much, I have tried to get out of it, and they say I can't! Its being 4 months already. For some reason, last week they made a mistake while trying to charge this month's fee in my account, so the bank blocked them after they made 9 attempts to place the charge, with the wrong billing address. Their mistake. Well, yesterday I received 14 calls harrasing me and with threats. Today 4. Which I am not answering anymore.Still, I have bnot being able to get out of the contract. Total fraud.

I have been trying to cancel LA fitness membership for my wife who is enrolled under my name. I am still keeping my membership though.
However, the club people keep on saying that I have to come to cancel the membership on weekdays from 9-5. I work from Mon-Fri from 9-5. There is no way I can go during these hours.
When you have to get the membership then you are welcome to do so any time throughout the week. This is a ridiculous policy that LA follows in order to keep charging customers.
They have another option of filling an online cancellation form and then mailing it to an address in US. For accessing that form one has to login using a username and password. I do not have an online account with them. When I tried to create a new account using my key tag and my postal code, it keeps on giving me "incorrect information" error.
I have no idea what to do and feel cheated by this company.

Never sign up for personal training here, I signed up for a year's personal training. The trainers seem to last about a month or two each, at the most, then you are stuck with someone who doesn't know anything about you all over again. I went away for business several times for several weeks at a time and built up a lot of training sessions that I have had to pay for. They keep charging money even though they don't even have trainers available. This is the worst money I have ever spent, they get you in a contract and you can't get out of it even if they aren't holding up their end of the agreement. I hate it when big companies take advantage of their clients. Scam artists....

This is my second complaint about the unsanitary conditions at the Commack, New York LA Fitness gym. After my first complaint, I did receive 2 phone calls from corporate, reassuring me that this would be rectified. However, instead of fixing the problem, it has become worse. There are no visible staff cleaning this gym. At 5:00 a.m., this gym is filthy. Littered paper towels and water bottles all over the floor, power spilled around the equipment, weights on the floor all around the place, and the bathrooms are unclean, hair clogging the drains in each shower. The uncleanliness in the bathrooms remains untouched for days. In addition, the machines have clearly not been wiped down for months. There is a build up of hair, dirt, powder, lotion, etc. that remains there day in and day out. Fingerprints from lotion have been on one machine since February! I discussed this with management and with corporate at length, to no avail.
I have many pictures of this that I have sent to corporate. I believe this gym poses a health hazard for those that attend. The other local LA Fitness gyms are not very clean either, but this one surpasses them all.

I contacted LA fitness for a refund for membership services that was initially cancelled in July 2015, so I thought. Well I was asked, why am I just now calling? Well I just check my account and just noticed that it was still being taken out of my account and my fault that I didnt have to watch my account penny by penny, THANK GOD!! So I was told that can only refund me 2 months, what a joke!!! She said thats all I can give you, so I asked for Corporate she says oh I am corporate and talking to you on corporate line. I was like oh really when I just called the facility in Morrow, GA and the rep said let me get my manager, she is here. So after speaking with her, I contacted their Corporate Office and was told that they will "TRY" to get 2 more months but they definitely will not give me money back from July. Now what I dont understand is that you can pull up in your system showing that I have not visited your facility or any other LA fitness facility since May2015 and contacted the office in July for a refund and yes you refunded the money on one credit card but continue to charge the other and the excuse is that its no notes listed for other card. Well I didn't know that I needed to help type notes in as well in order for me to stop membership. They are a total rip off and then the gym closed a week after I joined talking about renovation but no one even told me the gym was closing when I signed up, I should have been refunded for that! My suggestion would be not to give LA fitness your credit card information cause they use it at their discretion and make it your fault cause you are not broke or a penny pincher. But they able to pull up the account to see you havent visited any facilities!!! If they were that concerned about their customers and wanted to provide some type of customer service, why not take the time out of DOING NOTHING and reach out to customers that you are ripping off and see what type of service you can provide since you are taking their money. I bet you will make a call if you dont receive a payment!!! I wouldn't recommend NO ONE, not even my worst enemy to a LA Fitness facility. And the corporate office is just the worst they have no concern or passion, all she was saying was OK basically like saying whatever, we not giving you any money back. I was even told to contact my bank which I will do and pay$30 dollars to ensure its stop since they have already ripped me off $179.70 but only wants to give $60 back and say I have to wait to get approval for $60 more dollars, what a joke!!

If you are a person that does not need personal training do not do it. They will get you to do their free personal assessment, get you with the person in charge and will encourage you to meet your goal with a personal training. He will then really be a sales person and push for you to buy personal training sessions. When you say no, they will continue to push and push until you say yes to them. I am very unsatisfied about their willingness to understand what "NO" means. Do not get yourself into something that is not going to be necessary for your own needs if need be. I would not recommend purchasing something if they are going to make you feel like you need it and will make it hard for you to leave them without signing the papers.

This company continues to commit Credit Card Fraud by forcing charges onto my account after my account was closed.
