National Association of Professional Women Reviews (824)

After signing up for a free membership through [redacted], I was called to go over my application before approval. The rep asked me several questions about my career and goals then congratulated me on my accomplishments and told me I was approved for membership. She then proceeded to tell me Elite membership was $989 a year and auto renews. I hung up. A few minutes later I received an email with my free membership login info. I wouldn't trust this company and even take their free membership now. Very deceptive tactics to gain members.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I appreciate the canned response from NAPW that I read on
other Revdex.com complaints submitted and the personalization only to outline the
dates/time I was not able to answer calls.  The response only supports my point for request to cancel the membership
-  I am not available to appreciate all
the program has to offer.  I did not want
to answer the phone either only to listen to high pressure investments needed
to continue member.
Additionally, I had an increase in responsibility at work
and I am preparing for an executive MBA program.  It is unfortunate that NAPW does not offer
more flexibility in membership knowing women often spin many plates and things
can change in availability.  I do not
align to be a member to any organization that has expectation I immediately
answer and respond to every phone call or email.  In fact, I received 85 emails in 2 ½ months, sometimes up to
5 a day!  This becomes noise to me and
even as a member, harassment.  Please remove me immediately from your
contact database and put my contact information on a do not call list.
I asked the representative on Nov ** if there were any other
options and the response was “no” due to policy.  The response on 12/3 through the Revdex.com does not
provide any details for me to consider.
I do not feel NAPW's response provided any gain towards a resolution to my
concern, only to defend their policy.

[redacted]'s membership was voided shortly after she joined at her request. This charge should have dropped from her pending transactions. Nothing was billed to her card.

Revdex.com:
At this time, I have not been contacted by National Association of Professional Women regarding complaint ID [redacted].
Sincerely,
[redacted]

We are sorry that
[redacted]’s experience with the NAPW has been less than ideal – we do strive
to provide our members with resources and benefits to enhance and improve their
lives, both personal and professional.  We encourage and expect our
members...

to avail themselves of those benefits and to contact us with any
questions or problems regarding their memberships.

[redacted]
[redacted] completed an application for membership in NAPW.  We assume that applicants have done some
basic research on the NAPW before completing an application for membership to
determine if the NAPW would be an organization from which they would
benefit.  All of our invitations contain
links and information where more details about the NAPW can be researched in
addition to conventional Internet searches.
As everyone knows, the Internet is a forum in which anyone may express
an opinion regardless of facts and while unhappy applicants have made claims
and accusations about the NAPW, most of which are utterly baseless, most of our
members who participate and take advantage of the resources and benefits of
membership are more than satisfied.

NAPW provides an amazing
value for the membership fee.  Included in ALL memberships levels are
webinars, seminars, discounts, perks, online networking access and in-person
chapter affiliation as well as a myriad of other benefits.  Our
organization is growing, expanding and moving forward through numerous
initiatives, strategic alliances and corporate affiliations; offering members
additional avenues to ASPIRE, ACHIEVE and CONNECT.

Our members are entitled to be
treated with utmost respect and empathy, and every person on the NAPW team is
trained to work with our members to resolve any issues; however, there are
protocols and policies which must be followed.  These policies are companywide
and all of our team members are required to follow them.

On September
**, 2014 NAPW contacted her and conducted its initial enrollment
interview.  During this telephone call
our representative explained the annual costs and benefits associated with this
level of membership, and that all membership enrollments are final.  When [redacted] provided her credit card
information, she did not advise the representative that she was using a card
belonging to someone else.

Because
NAPW is a membership-based networking organization, the primary benefits at all
levels are found through our membership portal ([redacted]) as well as through our
face-to-face networking at our over 300 Local Chapters nationwide.  Additionally, through our online portal,
members are able to access ancillary benefits provided by our business
partners.  Because NAPW incurs costs upon
enrollment with those partners, we maintain a final sale policy.  Please be aware that membership alone
includes no tangible product to be shipped to the member.

Our
representative explained that [redacted] would receive an email (within 24
hours) containing login information for our members’ portal through which she is
able access all of the online benefits and enroll in Local Chapters.  She notes in her complaint that she did
receive this information. Our representative further explained that [redacted]
[redacted] should review our Terms & Conditions.  Subsequent to logging in but prior to
accessing her benefits, she was required to review and accept those Terms &
Conditions.  Therein, [redacted] was
provided with the details of our final sale policy, along with all other
policies governing her relationship with NAPW.
NAPW’s Terms & Conditions are available at [redacted].  We believe that there may have been a
language barrier, judging by the text of the complaint.

Clearly, [redacted] was not authorized to use the card in question
to purchase a membership; therefore, we have refunded the entire amount of her
fee.

On 3/**/2013, [redacted] joined NAPW. At that point, she was advised by her membership coordinator and agreed to set up the membership to auto-renew March of the following year. Per the Terms and Conditions set forth for all NAPW memberships, 30 notice is required prior to renewal if cancellation is...

requested. On February **, 2014, [redacted] did contact NAPW and request cancellation. Although less than 30 days prior to renewal (and not in compliance with the Terms and Conditions which [redacted] agreed to prior to accessing her membership), the membership was cancelled per [redacted]'s request on 2/**/2014. [redacted] has not been charged any additional monies.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I originally responded to the message below saying I agree to these terms and the case may be considered resolved. However, it has been almost two months since the business relayed this message in response to my complaint. I have not received any check, nor any correspondence or notices of any kind from the business. This complaint should be again filed as un-resolved until the business complies with what they stated they would do.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

I receive endless spam from this organization. They apparently use some sort of referral system that allows spam companies to invite you on their behalf. I get calls from them as well, and despite not being a woman they continue to invite me or others in my organization.

Customer service has been consistently rude and have had extremely difficult time canceling membership

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

This was supposed to be a free trial -- not a huge fee before I even knew about it.  I will not use any of the services offered -- I will never recommend them to anyone else -- I have continued to receive charges to my credit card.  This is not reputable -- I was not invited -- I clicked on an ad.  Now I know better.
Not only was my experience bad -- but I can not believe that without using any services or filling out any profile, I have been charged so much money!  This is highly unethical.  I am happy to pay for services -- but not for no service.  Do not claim it to be a free trial when it is anything but.
I will not read a single email from this organization -- I will not join anything or attend any conferences -- I have not used anything at all -- and asked for this refund the following business day once I realized my company would not reimburse and that I cold not afford it.
Also -- I do not remember hearing anything about it being non refundable -- please check that your employees say that very clearly in the future.
I would still like some sort of an apology -- and a refund.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.
*Note. Although there is no documented...

response from the business yet (through the Revdex.com), I did receive confirmation that the amount charged to my credit card WILL be credited back to my account; in addition, they have agreed to stop further payments. Although it should take a few days for this credit to be reflected on my statement, I am satisfied with this response, and the matter has been resolved.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Coghlan

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

They claim I was given correct information regarding the local chapter which they say is one of their largest, I was told the chapter Had over 400 members, when I found it on their web site it had 43 members.
They say they called me several times, I had 1 message from someone who just left a message to call them that was beginning of Oct.
They say they mailed an info kit to me, I live in [redacted] they are supposed to be in [redacted], I still have not received anything. I have come to the conclusion that they are far from straight forward. Money seems to be their only focus and "stretching" the truth is how they write their scripts that are used.
I don't understand how they can have an absolute no refund policy. Everything has at least a three day cancellation.
I am looking to get my $489.00 returned and hopefully stop them from taking advantage of others by not telling the truth.

Per this member's request, she is being issued a refund of $99, representing the cancellation of her membership. Because the initial transaction was more than 60 days ago, the refund will be issued by live check. This request has been issued. Unless we hear differently, the check for $99 will be...

mailed to the address on file, and [redacted] should expect to receive it in the next 2-3 weeks.

you may have received an email from me regarding the closed status of my complaint. I wanted to let you know that on Saturday, July *, 2014 I received a refund check from the National Association of Professional Women. I am satisfied and I now consider the case resolved. I thank you for all your assistance in this matter.

I clicked the link to join for free - then recieved a call detailing all of the great benefits of the membership. Then they hounded me for money - there could nto have been more types of memberships and price points. I almost fell for it, but thankfully I was at work and had to leave for a meeting. then they basically told me this was only available now and thatI needed to pay today or they could nto process my membership. needless to say - I am not a member

My latest corporate credit card statement showed a $789.00 membership renewal fee from NAPW; however, I did not receive notification that my membership was renewing. I contacted NAPW on 7/**/2015 to cancel my membership and obtain a refund. Maria, a renewal specialist, stated that NAPW must be notified before the membership is renewed in order to receive a refund. When I stated that I never received notification my membership was being renewed, she replied that it is my responsibility to check my spam folder regularly. She added that a letter was mailed by NAPW to a specific address; I stated that it was mailed to the wrong address. When I offered to pay a prorated portion from 6/**/2015 - 6/**/2015, she stated that NAPW did not prorate membership payments. She continued to argue that it was my responsibility to check my spam folder regularly and change my address. I am a business owner...my address formally changed three years ago. I would be out of business if everyone didn't have my new address. If I honestly knew the membership was renewing on June [redacted], I would have cancelled it before June [redacted]. For those reading this- just call your credit card company and dispute the charge. Evidently I am not the first person who has disputed NAPW's underhanded business tactics. My credit card rep stated that the charge was permanently reversed and NAPW was blocked from any future charges. After reading numerous complaints, I am also not the first person who complained that a notice of membership renewal was never received.

Per [redacted]'s request, a refund is being issued for $199 representing the cancellation of her membership. As the charge occurred nearly 8 months prior to the refund request, the refund must be issued by live check. This check has been requested, and should arrive within the next 2-3 weeks....

Unless we are directed differently, the check will be issued to [redacted], and mailed to the shipping address she used to purchase her membership. The check will be mailed to:

Thank you.

NAPW renewed my membership and billed credit card AFTER I notified them I was NOT renewing. I notified them 5 days in advance of renewal and they refused to credit my account.
