National Student Servicing Reviews (134)

Review: This company said they would help me get caught up on my student loans, I was paying this company every month and my student loans were not getting paid. I called them today and they told me that that's not what they do. They said that I am paying them to monitor my account to get the best deal on my student loans. I have paid them a total of 898.50 and not 1 dollar has gone toward my student loans.Desired Settlement: I would like to have a refund because I was lied to. There are several people that they have done the same thing to. It is wrong that they can do this to college students who are trying to do the right thing and pay back my student loans. They tell you that they are going to set you up on a consolidation and they debit your account for the amount but they never pay your student loans.

Review: Company contacted him regarding student loan repayment assistance. I signed up for services in December 2014. I was not given clear instructions on my responsibility to my student loan company ...they indicated that they take over the loan and manage the account for me. However I was receiving emails from my student loan company stating that I was overdue. I contacted them in June to address my concerns and still have not reached anyone to discuss my concerns and still am receiving emails from my student loan company stating that action is needed on my account. Basically the are not providing the promised service that I paid for and are not returning my phone calls so that I can unenroll in services.Desired Settlement: Refund for services that were not provided as promised. At very least that they contact me so I can unenroll from their services or that they unenroll me from their services

Review: I called National Student Servicing to consolidate my student loans. I was transferred to [redacted] and he told me that I qualify for the income based repayment plan. He said this is a government based program, but he did not tell me that National Student Servicing is a third party that is different from the income based repayment program. Therefore, I was under the impression that the income based repayment plan is a program under National Student Servicing. I thought that National Student Servicing had consolidated my loans and that I would be making my monthly consolidated repayment to them directly. I was told that based on my current income I just needed to pay a processing fee of $599.01 and then a monthly maintenance fee of $39 to National Student Servicing. This service provider failed to explain to me that they consolidated my loans under fedloan and that National Student Servicing is not directly related to fedloan. National Student Services and I made an agreement for me to make monthly payments for their processing fee. I had already paid $400 to them by the time I found out the truth. So I called National Student Services and spoke to an [redacted] Westwood and complained I was not told that they were a third party. She sounded very mad and told me well it's all in the paperwork you signed. When I initially signed up for the program, I thought [redacted] had explained to me everything and I trusted him. he told me to just go online and sign all these documents and then I'm set. I thought I knew what I was signing, but I actually didn't. [redacted] said there's nothing she can do for me except stop payments for their services. When I asked for a refund of the $400 for the processing fee, she told me no. To top it off, I just received a letter in the mail today from [redacted] of National Student Services that there was a processing error in my loans and that I needed to re sign those documents so that they could resubmit the forms. In the end, I paid them $400 and they didn't even do their job.Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund

I don't believe that National Student Services was completely truthful to me about their services and would like a refund of the $400 they charged me.

National Student servicing has been working very hard on Mr. [redacted] file as of march 2014 the consolidation was completed and Mr [redacted] is in the 0.00 IBR just as we promised. Before a client enrolls with us they are required to go through a compliance call in which the client must agree to the understanding of the services. During this call we ask the client if they understand that National Student Servicing is a third party and not affiliated with the Department Of Education. We also ask if they understand that we will be placing their loans with a new Federal Loan servicer. National Student Servicing fully states in the contract these lines which the client in questioned initialed *Student also acknowledges that they have been advised that any and all programs offered are free, and they have the ability to

Review: I was at the time unemployed and desperately trying to get back on track with my student loans. I contacted NSS who got me into an Income Based Repayment Plan, or so I thought. I made three payments of $281 then I had a monthly payment of $19.99. I was under the impression that this would get me back on track with a payment I could make each month without falling into default. Last week I received a letter stating I needed to re-up my payment plan. I interestingly enough received a letter from the loan holder, Great Lakes who said the same thing. I contacted Great Lakes to see who I send it to and was informed they have no affiliation and that no payments were made all year. When I called NSS I had the privilege of speaking with a young man who almost immediately into our conversation stated "it is not a scam". He also told me it hurt his feelings that I accused them of stealing from me. He then told me that they do not make any payments and the payments I made to them were their fees. I paid around $1200 last year while partially unemployed and they just took my money. This is a scam and I was a victim. The young man towards the end of the call was quite rude as well and acted as if I was in the wrong. Cannot believe I was taken like that but looking for a job and trying to keep my head above water clouded my judgement.Desired Settlement: My money paid back.

Review: This company claims to forgive student loans for people who work in the public such as teachers, police officers, firefighters, ect. When you call them or fill out the paperwork they take your money but it does not go towards your student loans at all. This company is taking money from people and saying they are paying their loans and they are not.Desired Settlement: This company has taken $660.00 that was supposed to go to my student loans and none of that money has been submitted at all. I would like a refund from this company.

Client [redacted] signed up with National Student Servicing on January 7th 2015. When a client signs up with us it is stated and I am taking this directly from the agreement signed by Ms. [redacted]...RECITALS:

consolidate the loans through programs offered by the Department of Education (DOE); and

*NSS is not affiliated, partnered with or associated with the DOE (Department of Education) in any way shape or form. NSS is a

On February 24th 2015 at 5:58 pm Ms. [redacted]s consolidation was completed. One minute later we sent Ms. [redacted] her application for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness because she works in the public sector and qualifies for the forgiveness stated. We also called the client and left a voice mail stating these achievements. In Retrospect...Ms. [redacted] signed up with our services and signed an agreement disclosing what it is we do to help our clients in need. We have successfully reached every goal promised and expected. Ms. [redacted]'s is not entitled to a refund nor has one been granted.

Review: I recently saw online that their were debt loan forgiveness programs. So national student servicing, the one I saw first I clicked on to see what it was about. It of course asked for your name, number and an email address. So I typed it in and not even 20 minutes later I was getting calls, several not just one about how to get student loan forgiveness. I kept telling them I wasnt interested and then finally I gave in after 2 months probably. The kept reassuring me everything is fine, just trust us, we do this for several people. They were very un clear of how it actually worked. Yesterday I called and the manager told me the rep I was dealing with was on a leave of absence and that he could help me.. I just wanted to cancel an==out of the consolidation and he kept saying trust me and let me do my job. Wouldnt transfer me to cancellations because I was almost done paying the fee.Desired Settlement: I just want them to leave me alone, let me cancel. I dont know what to do since I have deceased parents, im on my own. I want my information to be safe and to not be part of this scam. Please someone help me get this issue resolved.

National Student Servicing would first like to address the issue of multiple calls. When submitting your information for Student Loan Debt relief you opt in to sending your information to multiple companies. After reviewing our call history only two outbound calls where placed via National one that was not answered and one that was. Upon enrollment all contracts where signed and National Student servicing completed all work as agreed to per your contract.

Review: I am currently trying to repay my student loans, and this company is charging outrageous entry and setup fees for services that do not pertain to the repayment of my loans. They are also charging a monthly service fee for products and services that are free thru my loan holder. I was charged a setup fee and a monthly service fee for the IBR program in witch I was already enrolled in. I feel this company is taking advantage of people who are already going thru tuff financial situations trying to pay their bills.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the money that I was charged for setup of the IBR program that I was already enrolled in

Hi [redacted],

Review: National Student Servicing is a complete FRAUD. They were suppose to help me get out of default, but they are taking people money. I decided to contact the US Department of ED and they informed me that this company was a scam. Any and all payments should be made directly to the Department of Ed. I will know be sending payments to the Department of ED.

Leading consumers on calling themselves student loan forgiveness.Desired Settlement: I would like $115.56 returned back to me from National Student Servicing.

Review: I enrolled with the National Student Servicing in Oct. 2014 and they told me they work with the Department of Education to consolidate my loan with Nelnet. When I called Nelnet they said they never had a relationship with the National Student Loan. They also told me to be careful of them because if I am making a monthly payment it is not a legit company.Desired Settlement: My desire outcome is to be refunded and to get rid of this illegal contract that I signed with them

Review: In March of 2015, I contacted this third party servicer to let them know I am back in school, and that I should not be paying anything to them. They a=stated that everything was ok, and that this does not affect it, that I can still continue to pay them. I received a phone call on June 9th from [redacted], apologizing profusely that they should not have been taking my payments since February, as I was in school and that the first gentlemen I spoke to was wrong. On June 9th, I received confirmation from [redacted] that no more payments would be taken from my account and that when I am out of school I can continue with the program, and receive 3 months free, as I had already paid them for it. On June 15th, I had another payment taken from this third party servicer, and I called [redacted] immediately to say I wanted a refund for the three months I paid when I shouldn't have, and for the new one they debited from my account (In which I was assured by [redacted] no more payments would be taken). When I spoke about the refund, I received an attitude from [redacted], and she hung up on me. When I called back to speak with her manager [redacted], she said I was an accident and that she had no complaints about issuing me a refund, that it was their fault that money was taken when it shouldn't have been. These conversations were between 12 and 1 pm on June 15th. At 9:30 pm, I received an email from the manager [redacted], who stated they had changed their minds about the refund, and would not issue me the refund because she stated that 1.) it wasn't their problem that the previous gentlemen messed up in March, it was my problem, and 2.) she looked at the notes on my account, that stated I disputed these charges with my bank already, and they would not issue the refund. I did not ever say I disputed the charges with my bank, all that was stated was that I obtained a new credit card number and card, so they would not be able to take any payments from me anymore.Desired Settlement: I want my refund for four months, as this company is refusing to make right, what they did wrong.

Client is currently in discussion with us to work through these concerns that have been brought to the table in an effort to help the client move forward with a cohesive exit plan to properly mange and maintain loans.

Review: I spoke with [redacted] of National Student Servicing on a number of occasions over the month of September 2014. It was clearly stated to this man that I did not understand the loan consolidation process. We reviewed it orally and eventually, I signed an agreement with the understanding that they were helping me consolidate my student loans and that they were actually servicing the loan. The fee for this service was $499.00 total divided over three months. I called after the first installment of $166.33 was charged to my debit card, there was also an additional $19.50. I left him a voice mail on 10/24/14. This call was not returned until 11/18/14 (today). I emailed him this morning as I received my first bill from the Fedloan Servicing branch of the US Department of Education. The totals of the debt did not match and the bill did not correlate with what was communicated with [redacted] from NSS. I sent him 2 emails this morning and it was at that time that he called me back. After some concern about the bills, I consulted my family members as I was still confused about the contract and the bill not matching. All along, I was under the impression that they were the loan servicer/part of the US Department of Education. I was told verbally that the $499 was to set the consolidation up and would be rolled into the student loan itself. I was NOT aware that I could complete these documents myself and I was NOT aware that they would become my power of attorney. I feel that they misrepresented the nature of the service of the contract and took advantage of my lack of understanding of the document itself. It was implied that the contract was a formality, so it was not examined closely, which was my error. I want my money back!! A General Forbearance was a piece of the contract and this apparently was not filed as the bill I received today was for a program that is income based not a forbearance of payment completely.Desired Settlement: Refund of the initial 166.33+19.50= $185.83 that has already been paid and no further debits/ACH/billing sent to my debit card for the remaining two months. I also want the contract terminated completely.

Response:

We have reviewed all the calls that took place between Ms [redacted] and National Student Servicing. At no point was Ms [redacted] told that we were going to service her loan. We did however explain that we are a service much like a tax service and that the 499 was for that process. We fully completed the work that we agreed to accordingto the contract which makes Ms [redacted] ineligible for a refund. We did agree to cancel the rest of the payments owed for the service. The consolidation was completed on 10/31/2014

Review: I started the student loan "forgiveness" program in September of last year. I am a teacher, teaching in a low income community, ad it is not unheard of for teachers to get a certain amount of their student loans forgiven. The sales man, [redacted], I think, was very convincing and understanding. I started recently getting my wages garnished and they swore to have me out of garnishment within 5 months, if I pay $500 to start the process. I game the money and within a month, I was facing paperwork to analyzed for the program. Months went by, new people began taking over the case, and asking for repeat paperwork. All the while, still paying $20 a month for continuation of the program. Months have since passed and I'm in still in garnishment and not one dime has been placed towards my student loan debt. More paperwork was the last correspondence and still don't know if this is goi g to work. I believe it's a scam and I've been had. I plan on taking them to small claims court in order to get a refund if I don't see some proof soon! $800 later and still counting, with no real idea of if my loans are honestly being forgiven.Desired Settlement: I hope and pray that my garnishment will cease and desist. If not, I want a full refund.

Business

Response:

Miss [redacted] signed up with NSS September 12th, 2014. We emailed her all the documentation needed to be filled out and notarized. There is (according to the notes ) constant and clear contact between both the client and ourselves which is actually amazing, most client that are in a garnishment feel that if they ignore it all it will all go away so I do applaud the client in that respect. I also understand the frustrations when dealing with a garnishment as I myself am no stranger to those financial struggles. However I feel after thoroughly reviewing the file and seeing the effort put into it on both ends I have successfully narrowed it down to what I feel is the issues here. In order to have the garnishment lifted the client would need to be successfully enrolled into the REHAB program. In order to do so NSS would need all documentation such as POA that is notarized to move forward with the file. In this particular case it seems and this is no fault to the client that the minor bumps in the road we came across were the client not getting our requests via email due to them being sent to her Junk email or the client stating to have sent it in but it not being fully completed. These issues are normal. It does however put a pause on what can be done with the clients garnishment issues. Fast forward, the client was successfully put into the REHAB program and is well on her way to getting these issues taken care of and we will continue to help her even when she completes that program. We will be here to help her for the life of the loan. I really do not have an argument on this issue, I feel it is a rare situation where the process took longer then expected.

Review: I called this student loan consolidation company to take care of my student loans. they took my closing costs and would never answer the phone when I called to check on the process. I called about 5 times. I never received a call back from anyone at the company. They never had me sign any contract and began taking money out of my account each month. they contacted me by email in July and I replied telling them I had hired another company. They had not sent me any papers with their address or phone numbers until today when they are asking me to sign papers. The other company I hired has finished the consolidation process. The national student loan servicing (never knew their exact name till today) has sent me one email, but never responded to my replies or phone calls.Desired Settlement: I have asked them to stop contacting me. I would also like my money back if that is possible.

Response:

Ms. [redacted] Enrolled with National Student Servicing on March 24th 2014 we submitted her consolidation application on April 1st and it was completed august 14th. National Student Servicing has no records of a cancellation request until the client received news that the consolidation was done we also could find no missed calls from Ms. [redacted]. The only consolidation application that was submitted for Ms [redacted] is the one that National Student Servicing did, no other company was involved and may have acted poorly in signing up Ms. [redacted] or Ms [redacted] may have accidentally signed with two companies The consolidation is finalized and everything is in place just as National Student Servicing promised with the servicer we promised. We did all the work we were asked to do even though Ms [redacted] was not responding to multiple emails and calls that we left for her in regards to her application. We would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have

Review: Fraud loan consolidation company did not make my payments for my student loans.Desired Settlement: This company stated that I would have to pay my student loan amount of four payments of $99.75 and then my payments would reduce in the amount of $26.00 after that for a year and then my account would be adjusted based on my income, paid via credit card. However, I received a bill from the Fedloan stating that I owe $410.00. I called the governmental agency on 9/2/2015 and they stated they do not take credit card payment nor do they use 3rd parties to assist borrowers. I called to complain and the billing person stated there was no a consumer service person available to assist me. I told her they have one hour to call me back. THEY ARE FRAUD CON ARTIST!!!!

If you feel that this company conned you out of $28.00 a month it should by all means be addressed. Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Review: National Student Servicing misrepresented their service and told me that the only way I could consolidate my debt and apply for the Student Loan Forgiveness was through their organization. That is not true. Great Lakes owns my loan and said the services I paid for were available for free. Additionally, NSS told me that a portion of the money would pay the first month's loan payment.

Since NSS received payment on October 23, 2015, two weeks ago, I have tried many times to contact them by phone ([redacted]) and by email ([email protected]), but no one has returned my communication. I finally became suspicious and called Great Lakes to find out how to proceed and they informed me that I had been scammed. I looked online and found out that many complaints have been filed. I would like a refund of $699Desired Settlement: I want NSS to refund my $699.

Review: I was contacted by NSS regarding student loan forgiveness/consolidation by email. As an interested party in lowering my student loan payments, I thought, by all information provided; in writing, by telephone messaging, and personal contact, that NSS might be reputable. However, after giving them so much of my personal information, I became skeptical when I was locked out of my FSA ID login and NSS seemed unable to resolve the issue, but continued to send information about additional items needed from me. Then, right before they were to deduct the first payment, they stopped answering my calls. So I changed my account information to prevent them from making automatic debits. I want this information to be noted with the Revdex.com in case there is a need for legal actions in the future.Desired Settlement: My desire is for National Student Servicing (NSS) to know I have contacted the Revdex.com and can possibly make trouble for them initiating them to cancel/destroy all information collected from me and not continue with this obvious scam.

Response:

Miss [redacted] came to us on June 3rd 2015 for help with her Student Loans to be consolidated. It is in our protocol to be able to view her loans in order to determine the proper action to take with her loans. We are here to maintain and manage the clients loans making sure they are in the best possible program according to their financial needs that also is governed by the Department of Education's guidelines by utilizing a handed down algorithm provided. According to Miss [redacted] file we submitted an application for her based on the information given. When following up on the status of the application specific information is needed from the client in order to see this through. That in itself is why the client was contacted. To be blunt...If we were a scam, we would not have bothered contacting the client at all. We have done the work with out even acquiring any payment as of today. What did we scam her for? 0.00 dollars? We are very proud of the work we do to help student out there get through the stress that these loans can cause when the reason they have them is to try and better their lives and that of their families. I encourage people to always find out about the help they a receiving if you don't understand the process. We would be very happy to educate anyone of our clients on this process.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[Apparently my complaint was reviewed by the BUSINESS in a defensive manner. The complaint regarded (1) threat of the possibility of funds for service being debited from my account, after the business locked me out of my account a week before their scheduled debit (which has not been resolved to date); (2) not returning telephone calls unless I left a message threatening to cancel; and now (3) they are yet to confirm in writing, confirmation to my verbal request (by voicemail, as representatives could not be reached directly) to cancel our contract and not charge my account at any time now or in the future. Mind you, if the requirement to cancel is a process to be completed on line... remember, the BUSINESS has me locked out of accessing my account, and it has been this way since 6/10/2015 (this issue remains unresolved. So I say to the BUSINESS, be honorable and do not try to skew the purpose of the complaint with a bunch of irrelevant rhetoric...because that's what scammers do.

Regards,

Business

Response:

An attempt is and will be made to contact client again in order to resolve all issues. A direct line of contact will be given to the client to avoid any miss communication between the client and NSS. We hope this will fix what the client feels is broken.

Review: I paid this company money to consolidate my student loans. this was almost 9 months ago and they still have not consolidated my student loans. I have called and emailed over a dozen times and have had no response except one time where the women I talked to [redacted] was extremely rude. She gave me the runaround about how they are still working to consolidate my loans due to [redacted] transferring to [redacted]. I have had no contact since and the email I was originally provided does not work anymore. I am unsatisfied with their service and am wondering if it is a scam.Desired Settlement: I would like to cancel the consolidation process, if that is what indeed is happening and be refunded the money I paid for the service.

Review: The company was supposed to consolidate and lower my student loan payments. They charged me over $500 for this service, but offered a money-back guarantee. What actually happened was that they got me a six month deferment on my loans. The loans were not consolidated. The payments were not lowered. I have attempted multiple times to email and call then regarding this and they do not respond to my emails and they hang up when I call them, claiming later that the call 'dropped'. They refuse to refund my money. I believe that they are running a scam.Desired Settlement: Since they did not deliver on their claimed service, I want my money refunded.

Review: Student Loan Servicing reduced my student loans and promised that what we are paying we would pay forever under a government program. We have also paid them $30 a month for two years in order for them to manage my loans so that I would not have to "worry about it". For 6 months the student loan company has called to say that we are behind even though we've always paid with auto debit every month. [redacted] was supposed to manage my account so I ignored it forever but finally we answered and paid an extra $100 over the phone. Now this month [redacted] has withdrawn DOUBLE what our payment was supposed to be. Tried and tried to call our lovely representatives at NSS and of course no one answers. Actually sometimes the number goes completely to some other weird location like a radio station, and sometimes it goes to NSS voicemail. Super sketchy. Anyway I've paid these guys $30 every month and no one has managed my accounts and now [redacted] has completely messed up my loans. Can't seem to get in touch with ANYONE since the consolidation was done.Desired Settlement: DO YOUR JOB! Answer the phone. Call me and explain what has happened. Fix my loan amount. And then I am very happy to terminate our relationship. I don't need to pay you every month to do nothing.

Review: I spoke with [redacted] in June of 2014, about consolidating my student loans. I went through the application process and was told National Student Servicing could help me. I had to pay National Student Servicing after I signed their documents $595. In the documents it read that I would pay $261 for 10 years after that the remaining balance would be forgiven. Well, on September 3, 2014, my current loan processor (Granite State Management) told me that my student loans had already been consolidated with the Department of Education and that I paid National Student Servicing for a service that they couldn't provide to me and National Student Servicing should have known this and not taken my payment.Desired Settlement: National Student Servicing should refund me the entire amount of $595 immediately.
