Response to Complaint ID: [redacted] On March 11, 2017, we reached out to member in regards to their Nextdoor name, which did not contain a real last nameWe requested a copy of a legal form of identification such as her driver's license, passport, or a current utility billMember followed up with us and expressed safety concerns with disclosing her real last name on NextdoorWhile we understand member’s concerns, we reiterated that our real name requirement builds trust and accountability and leads to more useful information sharing On March 14, member followed up with a copy of their driver’s licenseOn the same day, we reactivated member’s account and updated it to include her first and last nameCase was closed as resolved because we met member’s request to reactivate her account

Upon registering for a Nextdoor account, all members agree to our Community Guidelines, which are intended to help promote healthy and neighborly discussionIf a member is reported for inappropriate content, we investigate and only take disciplinary action if we find a clear violation of our GuidelinesDisciplinary action may include removal of content, suspension of posting privileges, or even a permanent ban from NextdoorThese guidelines include not engaging in personal disputes in the public newsfeed. On May 10, 2017, Member reached out to Nextdoor Support to ask why her messages criticizing the quality of a local business were reported by another member as violating our GuidelinesWe followed up with Member and explained that it is ok to write about one’s experience with a business, be it positive or negativeThat said, we found that Member repeatedly posted her experience, which violates our Guidelines on over-posting and personal disputesWe asked Member to refrain from posting about this subject any further. On May 19, 2017, Member replied to another member’s negative business review message with a complaint that she should also be allowed to air her grievances with a specific handymanWe found Member’s message to be a continuation of her long standing disagreement with this local businessSince we previously asked Member on several occasions dating back to March to not violate our Guidelines on personal disputes, we suspended Member’s account until June 19thWe also found other members in the same discussion to be violating the Guidelines and took appropriate disciplinary action on their respective accountsOur review of the forum moderators’ actions revealed that they correctly interpreted our Guidelines and took appropriate action towards Member’s messagesOn May 23, we informed Member of our investigation and subsequent disciplinary action taken. If Member wishes to have their account restored, she can follow up with Nextdoor Support on June 19, to discuss the next stepsWe are also declining Member’s request to be promoted to a forum moderator, as such volunteers are tasked with resolving conflict in the communityGiven Member’s continuous history of conflict on Nextdoor, we don’t believe that Member would be a good fit for that role at this time

? Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Business should offer a period of trial to determine if the services requested are renderedThere is no evidence to support the business has provided any services and has not attempted to show evidence to support it.Sincerely,David [redacted]

Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 15, 2016/01/08) */ The fifth case concerns our Amazon referral programYou can find a complete description of the program in our Help Center, but the quick summary is that members can earn a $Amazon gift certificate if they successfully invite members to Nextdoor who go on to successfully launch new Nextdoor neighborhoodsThe member who complained was apparently upset because they did not earn the reward for inviting a friend who joined an existing neighborhoodHere is a screenshot of the Referral Page that the member would have had to use to invite their friend, which explains how the program works Initial Consumer Rebuttal / [redacted] (3000, 17, 2016/01/11) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The response does not address the problem with the misleading banner ad

Nextdoor requires members to join using their real name joining at their real home addressWe have several methods we use to verify members including billing address verification and SSN and public records checks As Nextdoor is a member driven platform platform in over thousand neighborhoods nationwide we can not actively search for and remove content that violates our GuidelinesWe reply on our members to anonymously report any content or member that they feel violates our Guidelines directly to Nextdoor Leads or Nextdoor SupportOnce reported the neighborhood Lead or Nextdoor Support will research the reported content and take action where our guidelines have been violated I have reached out to this member on 8/09/and asked them to report these fake accounts directly to Nextdoor Support

[redacted] does not provide phone supportAll correspondence must be done in writing

This member has used our member reporting feature to repeatedly harass? and try to have removed anyone she does not agree with, including political opponents and persons asking for clarification from the HOA boardWe have repeatedly told this member that we will not remove comments that do not violate our Guidelines and that falsely reporting people IS a violation of our Guidelines and will result in the suspension of her accountHer complaint here is an attempt to circumvent our rules and get us to take action that we have already explained we will not take ?

Nextdoor is a social network for neighbors to share locally relevant information and connect with their neighborsWith such a specific goal in mind we ask that all members abide by the Community Guidelines: [redacted] These Guidelines include rules about self promotion We reached out to this member for the first time to discuss her posts selling her homemade crafts on February 6th, to explain our Guidelines about posting items for sale and made it clear that homemade items were still considered self promotionalShe continued to post these items on Nextdoor and we reached out to her again on February 9th to discuss her continuing to post these itemsOn February 26th the member agreed to abide by the Guidelines and cease her self promotional postings After our February 26th warning, the member continued to post her items against our Guidelines and her account was placed on an administrative holdIn the month of February this member posted Self promotional postsHer account was recently restored to full access with a warning that if self promotion continues further disciplinary action will be taken on her account Tell us why here

Upon registering for a Nextdoor account, all members agree to our Community Guidelines, which are intended to help promote healthy and neighborly discussionIf a member is reported for inappropriate content, we investigate and only take disciplinary action if we find a clear violation of our GuidelinesDisciplinary action may include removal of content, suspension of posting privileges, or even a permanent ban from Nextdoor. On May 1, 2017, Member was reported for getting into a heated personal dispute in a public discussion threadPer our Guidelines, we ask members to move personal conversations into private message because such conversation takes a public conversation away from a community focusWe temporarily placed Member’s account into read-only access, which allows for him to see the newsfeed but not post to itOn the same day, Member reached out to ask about his restricted accountOn May 3, 2017, we informed him of his Guideline violation and the temporary disciplinary action takenWe also informed Member that we placed everyone involved in the personal dispute into read only accessMember also asked about the steps to becoming a forum moderator, and we explained that given Member’s history of conflict on Nextdoor such a promotion would not make sense at this time but asked for Member’s suggestions on other members that could impartially serve their community. On May 10, 2017, we restored Member’s account and closed the case as resolvedIf Member wants to delete his comments, he can do so by following the instructions in this link: [redacted] Likewise, if Member wants to deactivate his account he can do so through the instructions here: [redacted]

Our Real Estate Support manager will reach out to discuss this issue with the member

This member has only had one contact with Nextdoor Support and that was to warn about him about the Nextdoor Guidelines regarding Disagreements and Conflicts [redacted] At Nextdoor we ask all of our members to keep discussions civil and to treat each other with respectThis members posted comments such as: “Hold it Russell wait!! You left out RACIST!! You better correct yourself..otherwise the BLEEDING heart liberal's that you obviously FOLLOW will DRUM you OUT of the 'special society'!! FYI might I suggest you take in a homeless person..and care for them that way..you'll be saving a human being..and feeding YOUR ego! It and Now go back to YOUR beach community and practice RACIST WHITE Supremacist .Sexist Islamophobic come on Practice all the words they teach you in BIGOT School! I'm done bantering with you now..I have a strict requirement of my opposition having at least a IQ I've sized you up and it's unlikely you doSee ya! These comments were clear violations of our guidelines, and this member was warned and asked to keep discussions civil going forwardThis member then deactivated their account and ceased use of NextdoorHis complaints about neighborhood Leads has never been brought to our attention before and had nothing to do with why he was warned for violating the Guidelines

Due to the Nextdoor Privacy Policy we do not reveal actions taken on other members accountsThis member violated our Guidelines in order to shame someone else for also violating our GuidelinesIf someone is breaking the rules of the site we ask members to report them to us so that we may take action, instead of having them reply in a way that also violates the GuidelinesThis member was not the only person that we reached out to and took action on regarding this post and comments Nextdoor reviewed the Private Messages between this member and the volunteer Lead in her neighborhood and found no violationsThese messages were not harassing, it was a back and forth discussion about how this member thinks the Lead should be behavingWhen a member reports content they believe violates the Guidelines, multiple neighborhood Leads are asked to review that content to determine its veracity and act on content that violates them This member has agreed to abide by the Nextdoor Guidelines going forward and we have restored her account and access

? Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: ? Again, the issue is not with the nameI don't even know how that name was entered, because I'm more than happy to provide my real name for this applicationMy issue is how they handle their securityThey emailed me out of the blue, because I did not submit a ticket with their support team, asking me to reply to the email with a copy of my passport of drivers licenseI don't understand how it's difficult to get that this is unacceptableYour support team contacted me without me reaching out firstThey then asked me to scan and send a copy of either my passport or driver's license to confirm my identityThe email was unsecure and posed a threat to my personal information for the following reasons: ? 1) I did not initiate the support ticketThere is nothing but the name of "Nextdoor" in the email for the user to confirm who's sending this emailFor all I know, it this could have been someone spoofing your service to request this personal information.? 2) Sending the emails over an insecure channel poses a risk for the information to be mishandled or intercepted by a 3rd party who would then have access to my name, driver's license number, address, passport ID, photo, etc Many companies take user security very seriouslyIt would appear Nextdoor is not a company that doesIf they took user security seriously, they would have better practices in placeThis could be done by having your support staff send an email that says "You have a secure messagePlease open the Nextdoor app or sign into your account to view it" and have users upload the information while in the app or on the siteThis would require the user to authenticate by signing into their account to view the message and to send it securely through the siteIf necessary, they could even use a **TRUSTED [redacted] 3rd party site to handle this data ? As is, your security practices are disgusting and you should really change how you handle people's personal information before you have a breachYour current practices invite many many issues that could easily be remedied if you actually took security seriously.? ? This is what I want a response to, not the situation with my name Sincerely,Josh [redacted]
