Privacy Violation / Bad Customer Service / Potential Discrimination
I went into the Jackson Street, Methuen, MA branch this past week and interacted with a teller who violated my privacy as well as was one of the unfriendliest teller I have ever met. I am an 80 year old Spanish woman with limited English. I went in to make a deposit and part of the deposit included approximately $5,000 in cash. She told me that I could not just give her the money that I had to fill out a deposit slip (this I found unusual as other tellers have filled out deposit slips on my behalf with no issue) so I filled out the deposit slip. She then told me that I had to tell her where I got the cash and I told her (in my limited English) that it was none of her business and she told me that by law I had to tell her and because I was in a rush, I gave her a quick explanation.

I was then informed that unless the deposit was over $10,000 that I did not have to share any information with the teller and that the teller violated my privacy. I believe that the teller was disgruntled as well as discriminatory toward me due to my ethnicity and my age.

I have left two messages with the Customer Experience Manager and have not received a call back as of yet. I am considering pursuing this issue further with my attorney.

Awful online banking system, awful customer support, awful website, I truly wish this place did not get replaced by our old bank (Rockville Bank). Encountering so many problems with just trying to sign in, getting on the phone with a representative, and terrible website loading times. DO not recommend.

I am executor of my late cousins estate. I have been trying to close her accounts at peoples united bank for over 12 months.
Despite my attorney supplying all the documentation requested, we have now reached the point where the bank does not even acknowledge our communications!

I am rejecting this response because: this bank went and had me locked up for being very angry at them by me saying that I was going to blow that bank up I said that out of anger and being very mad at a bank for trying to steal $111.00 in fees have the bank stop. having me arrested and getting me locked up because of them being crooks.  is unfair they need to stop the stealing from the poor. so want to treat me like a terrorist for being mad at them paying my bills so they can steal my ** money. I want my funds returned and the charges drop

Review: I am a customer with Peoples United Bank from past 17 years. I opened up a Plus Checking & Plus Savings account 17 years ago. Recently a few months ago, Peoples United Bank changed the policy that Plus Checking cannot be linked to Plus Savings and posted a letter informing all customers, is what I was told. As I did not get the mail to my PO box and having funds in my account combined 4 times more than required every single day until today, I requested Peoples United Bank to refund my $70=00 charges credited to my account from past 7 months including the month of October 2015.Desired Settlement: My hard earned money of $70=00 to come back to my account.

Review: On August 24,2015 I sat with a loan originator to discuss a refinance on my condo decided to go with an adjustable mortage after going over the mortage products available I had brought a recent real estate appraisal that was done in July 2015 appraisal was at 274,00- 279,000

I asked her what takes place if the appraisal comes in lower her response Was they will make a counter offer!!!!!! I then wrote a check for 480.00 to peoples bank for the appraisal fee!,,,,, then the appraisal came back 22,000 less than the real estate appraisal it gets even better they claim the adjustable mortage only does a loan to value @ 75% in stead of the traditional 80% this was not disclosed prior to me handing over the 480.00 and there was never a counter offer made !,,,,,

I thought there were laws to protect the consumer from this type of scam . I have talked with them told them I was going to file a complaint they said they would talk with their manager and get back to me .......right still haven't heard fromDesired Settlement: Want my 480.00 back for failure to disclose all the proper details of their product

Review: Peoples bank has drafted my account $259.00/37ea. One, I'm using my ATM card and usually the charges debited deducts automatically. As I use the card. They have processed charges automatically as usual. Second. 0n April 30th, PM I made a transaction for 10.00 the next day my direct deposit came through and I was still charged 37.00. Thirdly, I called in and complained about the 1 over draft of 37.00 to get reimbursed. The representative refused and the supervisor. Also, they explained that I needed to opt out so that if any charges come through and the money is not in the account it will be denied. I told them I thought I already had that. I had Peoples for a long time and they've never paid out if the money wasnt in the account. Then she stated, I'd just opened the account recently. I did cancel out the other account for loss debit card and a scam that was done on me for a loan. The branch recommended a close out and reopen. I thought it we be the same prior opting out not to pay if money wasn't in the account. She asked opt out; yes. I stated. Furthermore, they have me listed as fraud and every transaction I get hassled with questions. I believe it was in 2001 my card was stolen and the individual must have been standing behind me I really don't know but they used my card and deducted about 1600.00 or less forget. I reported it. It was my income tax return and I had written out all my bills to be paid. They reimbursed all the bills and moneys cancelled account. I believe because of that I quick to get charged. Moreover, after complaining about the 1st over draft I had opt out. I'm spending my remaining 413. pay deposit. I find out 6 more OD. They are saying at the time I made the transactions the direct deposit wasn't there even though the money is there when it came in. After speaking to them, I said how can I have more when just 3 4 days ago the rep opt me out will not pay if not covered. I said go ahead I had that anyway. Convers. are recorded but I need name.Desired Settlement: Refund of at least 6 of the 37.00 each. I'd prefer all 7. I have direct deposit. The money was there that next day and after all the other transactions. I would not spend 16.00, 9.00 or any amount less than 37.00 knowing I would be charged each and every time. The transaction are over draft because of there fees and there over draft fees. Why would I be spending using my card if theres on money to cover it knowning I'm being charged. Further more I was always set up for deny charges.

I am rejecting this response because:

I did go to the local branch on Chase Avenue Waterbury, CT. The Teller could not understand it and stated the money was there but funds were on hold. She then contacted the Supervisor [redacted] in Bridegport, CT who told her the charges were there because other transaction were held. She still could not tell me why and became frustrated and impatient refusing to try to discuss the matter further. Prior to that the other Teller who originally opened the account in November and closed the previous account stated that I did not opt out. I told her I wanted the same type of account. She pulled out paper stating I signed not to opt out and told me I just opted out. She too became impatient and totaled all transactioons up and saw that due to the 37.00 charges (7times) is what caused the over drafts and could not explain why the hold up. I attend that location all the time and they know me. In fact, one of them called me personally and iformed me asking whats going on with your account? I would never do anythng like that and haven't for this to all of them is unusual. As I stated had I known about the 2nd, 34rd, 4th, 5th, 6st and 7th over draft fees why would I continue to use atm card knowing I'm beeing charged they are paying transatcions: 10.00, 9.52, 25.00, 20.00 5.38 etc... and getting charged 37.00 each time. Ridiculously ignorant. Furthermore, I was aware of the first one of 8.68 and tried to get that back by calling ###-###-####, the representative which I forgot her name refused to reimburst and told me that she opt me up so from then on should something come through and funds are not there it will be sent back. I said oK. The very next day after that conversation there were two more then the next day after 3 more. I requested to speak to [redacted] the supervisor or reimburst me for 3 of the 37.00 negotiating my earnings. I refuse and said I want them all back. I don't have money to give or throw away. I have direct deposit and the money was there on Thursday regardless of the charges they had on hold and can't tell why. So I requeset [redacted]'s Supervisor; [redacted] who told me he would reimburse all if he can find the recorded conversation. Came back on the phone and told me if I didn't have the representative name they can't reimburse me. I ask for his manager and transfered me to his voicemail I asked for a call to be returned. No one returned the call. I asked for a Manager to call me at local branch no one called.

Review: Two issues. 1) They started charging me a monthly fee without notifying me of the change in policy. I keep very little money in this checking account. Had I known, I would have closed the account.

2) I have my online banking settings set to receive an email in case of overdraft. This email never went out to me. I got charged a $37 "overdraft" fee three times without notification. I checked my email spam folder. Nothing.

In February, Peoples United Bank started charging $7.50 every month on my account for "ANALYZED S/C ANALYSIS ACTIVITY". (Without notifying me.) I had put thirty dollars total in this account to cover a $10 monthly fee for a gym membership in March. So by the time my May gym membership fee is due, there is an overdraft. And I don't find out until the gym tries three times over the course of two weeks to direct deposit the money. So a $10 fee now is $115 with all the fees. I called customer support and was told they can't do anything.Desired Settlement: I would like these fees wiped away.

Review: We opened an acct after getting a pamphlet with my paycheck about their workforce checking acct program. Everything went fine and the acct was opened. Our history was checked thru [redacted] systems and we were clear. A few days later we get a phonecall from the [redacted] branch we went to saying they were closing our acct and sending us back our deposit money. There had been no activity on the acct at all. No checks had even been ordered yet because the acct was so new. Then a month later we get a letter saying our acct was over drawn because of a $12 service fee and we owed them $12 now. We opened it with $25, had no activity, got sent back $25. There is no way this account was over drawn. We also did not sign anything that says there is a $12 service fee with this type of account. They are retaliating because we posted a bad review of them online where multiple other bad reviews are posted. They cannot claim not to know this either because I gave them a printed copy of all the bad reviews online stating they do shady things like this to people on a regular basis.Desired Settlement: I want the $12 charge taken off our record and a written confirmation of it sent to us in case they try to lie or pull something else later on down the road.

Review: I recently lost my job... and over the course of the last three months, I overdrew my account about 6-7 times. All of the times that it happened were because of my ex-employer changing my final paycheck direct deposits, and the automatic withdrawels that I had coming out each month. I called the help desk, they sent me to the bank location. When at the bank location, I was told to call help desk and that they would refund all my $37 fee's. I called the desk again, and they sent me back to the bank. I spoke to the bank manager at the [redacted] in Danbury CT and she told me she would resolve the issue. Only 1 of the fee's was refunded to me. I explained my situation and they have yet to resolve it. All the times my account was overdrawn was because of my exemployer not directly depositing my final checks, and because of the automatic withdrawels that I've had to switch around. I have tried to call back the person from the company who has called me, but he has been out for an entire week. I have called numerous times without a response, the man I am to contact always being away from his desk. I have left several messages. The company isn't offering any kind of solution. I have contacted the bank, as stated in my initial complaint. I was told from a bank employee they would be refunded. When calling around and getting tossed back and forth between companies phone service and actual branch, I finally spoke to a manager in the danbury [redacted] who again also told me she would reach out and get the overdrafts waved due to the situation. This did not happen.

Review: I recently learned that my bank account was charged twice for overdraft fees. Unbeknown to me, the funds in my account were low but my automatic transfer set-up for two other accounts still hit the people’s bank account, one charge of $50 and another for $20. Once I was told what happened I spoke to the bank manager at the [redacted] branch [redacted] and she promised me she would request that one of the 37.74 charges be refunded. I called my daughter who advised me to call the customer service # to attempt to get the other charged reversed as well. I first spoke to a rude rep that didn't even take the time to listen to what I had to say; instead she immediately transferred me to another dept. I spoke to the most lazy, nonchalant, unsympathetic person ever. Even asking me for my account info seemed like such a chore for him. Instead of trying to help he wants to judge me saying well you should've paid closer attention to your account, it's not the bank's responsibility to inform you of a low balance. I understand that this was my fault however can the bank have not notified me that my account was over drafted, would it have hurt actually serve the customer? On top of that the bank didn't even pay for the two transfer amounts, the money stayed in their pockets, yet I'm being charged $75.48 as a lesson to always have sufficient funds in the account. Nevertheless I asked to speak to a supervisor, [redacted] the supposed "supervisor" is just as unhelpful. She spews out the same rhetoric as the epithetic rep before her, it's your fault we will not refund the two fees of $37.74. These people refused to extend me the courtesy of reversing the fees. Even though this is the first time this has happened... a mistake and again they did not pay the $70 on my behalf. Later when I called to speak to the branch manager [redacted] and explained what happened, she dismissively told me that I shouldn't have called the 800 # and that she won't proceed with the request for my refund. The worst bank experience ever. No customer should be treated with such disregard. Customer service is what keeps businesses open, especially banks. Review: I go every two weeks to deposit a check to Peoples Bank so that I can have my bills paid through this system. Well until recently starting on 4 December 2015 and as I've done in the past when depositing my check. My monies to pay my bills is available to me at midnight on Saturday as the transaction is done on Friday's. On Monday the 7th of December I see all my bill payments coming back and called the Peoples Bank out at the [redacted], Ct. And ask them what's going on with this and I was told the paying bank which [redacted] had generated a hold or no payment on my check #[redacted] for $620. So I called the paying bank and they said there was no hold or non payment for a check written on 4 December 2015. I had to print out a copy of my statement showing Peoples Bank that the check in question was paid on Monday 7 December 2015 and they refunded my the $37 dollar return fee for items that came back through them.

Now it's 18 December 2015 and the same thing happens again with check #[redacted] for $650 and was to be available to me at midnight. And when I checked the online system the monies was available and preceded to pay my bills online as I've always done. So, I'm out at [redacted] this was on the 20th of December to check my balance at there ATM so I could see what my available balance was. I was shocked to see that I had a negative balance of $293 in my Peoples Banking account. So I called the Peoples Bank at the [redacted], Ct and spoke with Lauren B[redacted] Customer Service Associate on the 23rd of December and re-explained to her my delima; because the Bank Manager Angela was not in and who I first dealt with when it happened the first time. Angela was not in but I did speak with her today on 24 December 2015 as she told me to call back if it happens again. That I wanted my two $37 dollar return fees given back to me and see what the glitch is with there system. She, Angela told me that Peoples bank can't keep giving back return items fees when this happens. Which this time I had two return items fees of $37 because the Peoples Bank system problem. The number number to that office Peoples United Bank Stop and Shop Milford, Ct office is telephone number is [redacted]. The manager's name is Angela.Desired Settlement: My desired outcome is to get back my fees totaling $74 dollars and see why the system generated a hold or Peoples Bank is saying the paying bank which is [redacted] issued a non- payment of the checks I write every two weeks and why it is a problem now? It's definitely not with my paying bank as I've talked with them before. And if there is a glitch with those two systems I need to know why as until December I hadn't experienced problems like this before. I need a resolve bottom line.

Review: I've been with Peoples United Bank since I was 15....A few years back they got me to switch to Advantage Checking which was free checking....I switched because it was free and now they have changed their policy to charge for these accounts....How can they suck me in to something and change it????...They signed me up for free so too bad for them it should be free???...Now I need to carry a minimum balance of $1,000.00 in each account...Last month 5/13/2014 I went into the branch and moved $1,000.00 into each account to stop them from stealing money from me.....I went on the website today to look at my accounts and I see they stole money from my account once again...If this is not resolved and my accounts put back to the agreement that we had, which was free checking, then I will be moving my money to my credit union...Desired Settlement: Put my account back to what they agreed to....If they want to charge new customers then fine but for existing customers who they agreed to give free checking to leave as agreed...

Review: People's United Bank is no longer a reputable bank due all of the obvious fraudulent and unauthorized transactions that were never resolved.

I have a couple of bank accounts that were established at Merrill Bank in 2001 and 2005 several years before People's United Bank would eventually acquisition them. Since People's United Bank took over they have been friendly in some respects, but in other respects they've proven time and time again that profit out weighs any client resolution including; fraudulent activity, unauthorized transactions, and the reordering of transactions resulting in excessive and unnecessary fees. I have made several complaints to their Brewer and Waterville, Maine branches to refund any and all obvious fraudulent transactions and even filled out a couple of dispute forms as they required I also contacted online support and they referred me back to the local branches. I even asked that upper management get involved due to the poor response on resolving my account and still was referred to the local branches. This has caused financial harm and forced me into some very desperate situations. I have proof of several fraudulent transactions that were never resolved and need this rectified by People's United Bank immediately. Desired Settlement: I have an account that is in the red and has been since June 2013 due to all of the unresolved fraudulent transactions not to mention unauthorized. It has caused this account to snowball resulting in just fees with no benefit of transactions paid. I have had this same account since 2001 with no issues until this year. I would like People's United Bank to resolve my fraudulent disputes and immediately reverse all overdraft fees from the time the disputes were active to present day. This has clearly caused financial harm and I want it rectified as soon as possible.

All transactions on this day were taken care and because of My Cash Now and People's United Bank I had a negative balance come Monday morning even though I had the money put in the account that same morning this caused $407 dollars in unnecessary overdraft charges plus I had to still pay for the stop payment which did not serve any benefit at all.

I was treated very unfairly on this and it caused a lot of stress going forward. I orded a stop payment the day before the transaction would hit which was on Friday the 29th of March based on the exact amount given in my email by My Cash Now, I would've done it on the entire company instead, but I was told I cannot and have to do it on the exact amount, but later told I was told I could've done it on the company. So, bottom line this caused a lot of unnecessary fees by the waterville Manager at that time. I won't even get into to condescending conversation I had with the Manager, making me feel like this is all my fault some how. She also returned all of other transactions that were paid for causing additional fees on the other end. It was a horrible experience come Monday April 01, 2013 especially knowing this was an unauthorized transaction and she even reordered all of the transactions to make things even worse. I just don't get how a bank manager can purposely go out of her way to hurt a client knowing that the transaction was not authorized and all other transactions were covered 100%...?

The smaller transactions were from companies that did not have any type customer service or any way of communicating with them to resolve desputes. They are all over the web on all kinds of ripoff reports, Revdex.com complaints and so on. I have never been in contact with any of these companies nor did I ever apply for a loan through them.

They have never bothered to reach out to me other than a letter stating they will be closing my accounts on August 29th, 2013 with faulty intentions to cause more issues. Any professional business will always try to turn a negative situation into a positive one, but People's United Bank proved over and over that it is too BIG to waste its time. I have never had such a bad experience in my life and this is the first time I have ever reached out to the Revdex.com on any bank. They have way too much power and control over their clients and at some point I hope many more of People's United Bank dissatisfied clients come forward and add their awful experience. There are still a few disputed transactions that have yet to be taken care of and according to the manager that wrote the recent letter she claims that I only had one dispute which is false. I am not an unreasonable person, I just don't like to be crossed and I won't under any circumstances be pushed around.

Review: On 4/29/2014 I was checking my balance on my People's On-line account. I wanted to make sure that there was not a negative balance before the end of business day so that if there was I could make a cash deposit to cover the differnece. As of 7:00, I had a positive balance so I thought that was fine since my husband's check would be direct deposited as of 12:00 that night. On 4/30/2014 the next day I checked my account again and to my horror there was a check that was not there the day before, but with a 4/29/2014 cash date!! This made my account overdrawn and there were 6 overdraft fees. The bank waived three, but that was still a total of $111.00 that I could not spare. I called the bank and they were very rude saying that they could cash checks at anytime of the night and that this check went through at 10:30 p.m.!! What happened to "business hours"? If this was the case, I was not aware of it and even if I was, I would have had no way to rectify the situation as seeing the banks are closed at 10:30 at night. Also, they put the check that was cashed at 10:30 p.m. at the bottom so that the transactions that were already there from during the day were above that so they could scam me out of 6 overdraft fees. I don't feel I should have to pay any of them seeing at one time I was told anything after BUSINESS hours do not go until the next day, which is true for all companies I have dealt with. I have been a customer for over 30 years and I have never seen this happen before. I did talk to [redacted] at the [redacted] branch and she told me the manager said they would not give me any fees back because they did it in December. The reason why they did that was because a law firm remove funds from my account and as soon as they realized what they did, they put that money right back. I have proof to show the bank it was the firms error and not mine. Which I said I could get them but they did not want to hear anything about it.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the overdraft fees of $111.00 placed back into my account as soon as possible.
