Rick Mayer Cycle Reviews (62)

Review: This is a business that modifies stock motorcycle seats for comfort. I met [redacted] at the [redacted] in Chicago on 2/8/14. At that time I placed an order to have my seat from my 2010 BMW R1200GS customized. I put $100 down with my credit card. On 2/26/14 [redacted] received my seat via the US Postal Service. I paid the remaining $144 due and [redacted] gave me a production date of 2/28/14. Nearly a month goes by and I have not heard anything about my seat. I contact [redacted] by email ~3/27/14 and he indicates he has personal issues affecting his business and that my seat would ship 'next week'. Two weeks go by and still no seat so I attempt to contact [redacted] again by email. on 4/12/14 I get an email by from [redacted] indicating my seat will ship 'next week'. Two weeks go by and still no seat so I attempt to contact [redacted] by email on 4/23/14 with no response. I again attempt to contact him on 4/30 with no response and phone has been disconnected. [redacted] has my money I paid for a product I did not receive (fraud) and my seat (theft).Desired Settlement: I want the seat I ordered OR I want MY stock seat that I sent Rick Mayer Cycles along with the $244 I paid returned, or if MY stock seat cannot be returned I want my $244 back and $200 for the value of the stock seat.

Response:

I have completed Mr. [redacted] order and the original tracking # provided will be come active once the package is picked up this week.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:

It's another lie from this serial liar. I received notification on 5/14/14 of the following:

This message was sent to you at the request of rick mayer cycle, to notify you that they have shipped a package to you. For details about your shipment or to track your package, please refer to the information below.

Shipment Details

Shipped To: [redacted]

Mailing Date: 5/14/2014

Est. Delivery: 2-9 days

Service: Parcel Select (R)

Signature: Not Required

Tracking: 94[redacted]85

So I waited, and waited, and waited. No package. So today I called the USPS and received the recording which I attached. The recording states this shipping confirmation does NOT indicate the package was ever picked up by the USPS.

Business

Response:

The label has been created and the box is due for pick up tomorrow-I regret the confusion-we have been extremely busy.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. However, this entire issue with Rick Mayer Cycles has been a colossal waste of my time. It took 4 months, the Revdex.com, and the [redacted] to get any movement out of this guy. While my complaint is resolved I would still rate the business highly unsatisfactory in how he conducts his business.

Review: Still waiting to have my seat issues addressed. Still waiting to have my front seat returned. Still waiting to have my deposit returned. Does not return E mails. Rear seat is not usable. Front seat has been returned to RMC twice and sent back to me with no adjustment made. Staples in front seat not installed properly. Front cover had tears in the material when return from RMC.Desired Settlement: 1. Rear seat cover replaced with smooth material as initially ordered.2. Rear seat foam replaced so passenger does not slide forward.3. Front seat foam replaced and the proper spacing between tank and seat.4. Front seat cover replaced with smooth material as initially ordered.5. New Take Off condition seat returned.6. Deposit returned.

Review: On 2/8/14, at Chicago IMS, place order with Rick Mayer for custom motorcycle seat, & provide $100 deposit. Original seat subsequently shipped at cost $69.18 to support 4/4 production. On 4/7 Rick requests balance of funds ($359) to be transferred via PayPal & transfer is completed same day. On 5/24, e-mail is sent requesting status of seat. On 5/28 & again on 6/13, receive automated message e-mails from Rick Mayer Cycle in form of providing USPS tracking #, indicating seat delivery is expected to take 2 to 9 days, however status of USPS tracking numbers never go active. Throughout this period, have generally called Rick Mayer Cycle on weekly basis, & left messages requesting order status. Calls are never answered & default to voice messaging. On 8/6, instead of requesting a status, indicate that due to lack of feedback throughout this process, I intend to "pursue other means to resolve this issue". In apparent response to threat, on 8/8, receive voice message from Rick Mayer, detailing issues he has been dealing with & apologizing for his unresponsiveness. Rick states he has located my seat in his shop, & expects to ship the following week. As of 10/13, there has been no additional response nor has seat been received.Desired Settlement: Not sure if Rick Mayer Cycle has my original seat, nor will properly perform modification. Not considering the considerable time & efforts I've expended related to this issue, my expenses are as follows: $486.74 (cost of seat sent to Rick Mayer); $100 deposit; $69.18 shipping; $359 balance - total of $1014.92. Refund total amount or return original seat undamaged & refund $528.18. Note: Receipts are available of each transaction.

Review: Paid for services promised. Have not received services and none of promises made via RMC contract or to me personally have been kept.Desired Settlement: Would like my seats (Driver & Passenger) and upholstery material returned that I sent along with reimbursement for shipping, $100+$144+$22.91=$266.91. Do not want RMC to rebuild seat as there is no way I could return seat for corrections if necessary given what I have already dealt with.

Review: Contracted via credit card payment of $845.00 for construction of a custom seat for 2014 BMW R1200RT LC motorcycle with build date of 22 October. Seat has not been constructed, multiple promised time lines to construct and ship have been missed. Reading other complaints with very similar/identical responses from Rick. Personal issues, not having the product, shipping next week (several times), etc. When I demanded the refund, he said ""I m sorry also, it may take some time to refund however [redacted], funds are extremely short at the present time."Rick. I have asked him to call and to make this right.Desired Settlement: Complete and prompt/immediate refund of all funds transacted.

Review: I ordered a custom made motorcycle seat from this business on Nov 14th. I paid in full for the service on the same day. I received an e-mail Nov 18th Saying they will start production on my seat on Dec 4 and will take 7 to 10 days. It is now over 60 days past the start date. I have sent several e-mails and made over 20 phone calls in the past month to find out the status of my order, but I get no reply. None of the e-mails are answered. I have been able to reach customer service on only 3 of the phone calls and the only answer I get to all my questions is, "I'll take a message and have Rick call you back, but he has never called me.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive the seat I ordered. Can he please respond to my request for status and provide the product what was promised in a reasonable time. If he cannot provide the seat, then let me know and provide a full refund of the $912.79 within 15 days.

Review: I ordered a custom seat and paid a deposit on seat pans that was supposed to be refunded once my seat pans were sent in. It has been over 30 days and the company will not refund my $535.00 even though they have agreed in writing to do so.Desired Settlement: I want my deposit back as agreed $535.00

Business

Response:

I have been in touch with Mr. [redacted] regarding this matter and I have explained due to the severe drop in my business these past few months, I am unable to refund his account - However I do not dispute his claim and I have told Mr. [redacted] that I will be refunding his full claim. Thank you.

Review: I placed an order with Rick [redacted] Cycles (RMC) on April 18th, 2014 for dual seats for my BMW R1200GSW motorcycle. I sent two checks, one for the seats and one as a seat pan deposit to be refunded to me once I returned my stock seats to RMC after receiving the seats I ordered. I have placed dozens of phone calls to RMC, sent several emails, and one fax. In the intervening 7+ months since placing the order, I have managed to talk to Mr. [redacted] three times. On each occasion he told me he was shipping my seats within a few days. Finally, in early September he sent my front seat with a promise to send the rear shortly after. It is now December 8th and I have not received my rear seat, nor any explanation of why I have not. I sent him my stock front seat to fulfill that part of my seat pan deposit obligation, which UPS records show was delivered to RMC on October 27th, 2014. Since mid-November I have repeatedly attempted to contact Mr. [redacted] to cancel my remaining order. I have done so both via phone (always picked up by either an answering machine or fax machine) and fax. I can provide my order form, emails between me and RMC, copies of the two checks he deposited in his account on April 24th, 2014, and a copy of the fax (with a successful delivery notice) I sent cancelling my order and requesting refund of the undelivered seat plus return of my seat pan deposit. I followed up the fax with repeated calls and left messages requesting a call from RMC to confirm cancellation of the remainder of my order. I have not been contacted. In fact, over seven months RMC has never once initiated contact with me regarding the status of my order. In short, RMC took my money, has not delivered my product, and won't communicate with me. I believe that constitutes theft and may involve mail fraud.Desired Settlement: RMC has since changed their pricing structure, but at the time I placed my order there was an $80 difference between a solo seat order and a dual seat order. I placed a dual seat order. Since I received the front seat but not the rear seat, I would like an $80 refund, plus immediate return of the $600 seat pan deposit I made. RMC has no claim whatsoever to any of those funds.

Business

Response:

I spoke with Mr. [redacted] last week and we did reach an agreement in this matter. Feel free to contact Mr. [redacted] if you would like to confirm this statement. Thank you.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:A verbal agreement was reached on December 19th. The agreement was that my seat would be completed and shipped, and a full refund of my deposit made by January 2nd. I emailed Mr. [redacted] on the 2nd to confirm that the terms of the agreement would be met. He told me he had manufactured the seat and that it would ship out later that day. He also said my deposit would be returned to me on Monday, January 5th. I pointed out to him that the agreement was for the deposit to be returned by January 2nd. In a response made to me on January 3rd, Mr. [redacted] said he was unable to return my deposit until he collected payments from others. He also said my seat was ready for pickup by USPS, somewhat contradicting his previous assertion that it would ship on the 2nd. As of now, 1/5/2015 I have not received a tracking number to show my seat has shipped, and I have not received the deposit refund. When (if) I get confirmation that my seat has shipped and I have the funds from my deposit returned to me, I will update this complaint.

Review: I placed an order for a custom motorcycle seat in early June 2013. Being a repeat customer (2006) I spoke directly to [redacted] prior to submitting the order and my payment information; he assured me that the seat would be completed and delivered prior to August 1, 2014. The day I placed my order he charged my credit card. In mid-July I attempted to contact him to inquire about the status of the seat, as the deadline was approaching. Many emails and phone calls were sent, none of which were acknowledged or answered. Finally he informed me that a major component for the seat was not in stock (heating element), suggesting that not only did [redacted] fail to begin making the seat, but he did not even collect the proper materials. This was 10 days prior to the promised delivery date, after a 2 month wait. I informed him that I wanted to cancel the order and within hours received a return email stating that he would get the part and complete the order. Another month went by and again, after multiple inquires I did not get a response from him. Once again I decided to take my business else ware and by email, requested a refund. [redacted] quickly (same day) told me that the seat was complete and "on the table for shipping tomorrow". That was over 3 weeks ago. I sent another request for him to cancel the order and refund me, but he again has not responded. Instead, he sent me a tracking number on Aug 17 and as of Sept 6, the package had not shipped. I was infuriated and after multiple unanswered inquires, he finally said that the package was shipped but retuned because of incorrect postage. I inquired about this with the USPS and they never picked up a package from him with that tracking number. Two days ago I sent yet another demand for a cancellation and refund. He of course, has not responded.Desired Settlement: I have requested cancellation and a refund on 4 occasisons now, and [redacted] has ignored evfery one of those requests. He has lied to me on multiple occasisons and will not communicate with me (nor most other customers if you look around on-line).I want a full refund for my order.

Business

Response:

Company states: You have been talking through e-mail and have worked out a resolution and we are going to be modifying the product. His instructions on returning have been given.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

That said, I have heard from [redacted] on several other occasions that things were 'worked out' on specific time-frames. IN the attached message, I was told new/repaired seats would be sent out by late THIS WEEK. I think it is more than fair to expect this shipping estimate to be honored. If it is not, I would appreciate further involvement of the Revdex.com (or the CA-DCP if needed) until this situation has been resolved.

Review: Rick Mayer Cycle was paid on 9/6/13 for a custom K1200 LT seat. The seat was shipped to him in November 2013 with an April 2014 completion date. 4/23/14: was sent tracking info: Mailing Date: 4/23/14 Tracking: [redacted]After several weeks of un-returned phone messages and emails: below is the timeline of his responses to many more phone messages and emails. (can print out if needed) 5/30/14: I should be shipping your saddle next week. Thank you for your understanding. 6/11/14: I understand I have run past shipping estimates on your seat and way passed on some seats, this delay was largely out of my control due to some very serious personal affairs that had to be dealt with. Over the next two-and-a-half my staff and I will be doing extra days and extra hours to see to it that every seat in the buidling is finished and shipped by the end of june. Depending on the original date assignment of your order your saddle may in fact ship sooner then the end of the month, if you have received a tracking number for your seat and have not seen tracking information on that number it means that a label has been created for your seat and you should see tracking info for it within the next several days. I realize that I have kept many customers off their bikes for much longer then planned, and for this reason I deeply regret any inconveience. This is the most current information that I can give you at this time, additional calls or e-mails to inquire as to specifically what day your seat will ship will add to my already heavy work load and may actually delay the shipping of your saddle. 7/1/14: Thank you folks-I do show that they were picked up this past fri-you should have received a tracking #. If not, LMK and I can have the USPS resend. Finally was able to talk to him on the phone 7/18/14: her confirmed on the phone and via an email: seat will ship 7/22/14. Called him on 7/24/14 to ask tracking number, office is closed till 7/30/14.Today is 7/30/14: no response yetDesired Settlement: Full refund and seat returned.

Review: On 6-16-14 I contacted Rick Mayer Cycle to have him rebuild my motorcycle saddle. He charged my account that day for $322.10 for the work. My production date was to be 7-3-14 with a 7-10 day turn around. On 7-24-14 I called leaving messages about my seat. He claimed he forgot to do it and would rush to get it to me by 8-1-14. On that day I received a tracking number from him through USPS. No delivery ever happened so I traced the tracking number. USPS claimed he applied for the number but never shipped a package. After repeated calls and messages with no response from Rick Mayer Cycle.Desired Settlement: To refund my monies and return my property to me unaltered as it was delivered or to provide me with a completed saddle.

Review: I am writing to you hoping that you might be able to assist me with this. I contacted Rick Mayer of Rick Mayer Cycles back in the beginning of January, to verify prices and options for one of his custom seats. I did this to insure that I was in the que before the international shows. He verified that the price that his websites form generated was correct, and that the materials were available, and told me to fax in the order form and required photos, which I did. In my fax, I stated that I would enclose certified funds with the seat when I received a build date from him. The next day, I got a call from him. He said that he had received my fax, but that he required payment in full before he would put me in the que. I thought this a little odd, but agreed, and obtained a cashiers check for the required funds, and sent it out the same day via first class mail. That was January 18.A week went by, and no further communication from Mr. Mayer. When I called the number on the website, I was told that he was no longer at that number, and was given a second number to call. Upon calling that number, I learned that Mr. Mayer had moved his shop, and I had sent the check to the wrong address. Mr. Mayer said that he had a forward order in place with USPS, and that I should wait for another week to allow the Postal Service to get it to him. I called the bank to see if I could stop payment on the check, but was told that since it was a certified check, no stop payment order could be issued for 6 months. So I waited. I called several times in February, and was told no, nothing had arrived. I then resigned myself to not getting a saddle this year. I asked Mr. Mayer to notify me if the check actually arrived, and that I would decide at that time whether or not to proceed. I was planning on stopping payment on the check if it never arrived. On March 6, Mr. Mayer called, and said that he was terribly sorry, the check had arrived on Jan 28, and had been misfiled upon receipt. He said that if I shipped the seat to him right away, he could turn it around in a couple of weeks. I shipped the seat to his new shop in Red Bluff, CA on March 8 via FedEx ground, and got confirmation from them that it arrived at his shop on March 17.Mr. Mayer, since then, has become nearly impossible to contact. When repeated emails and telephone calls went un-answered, I sent a fax requesting a status update on April 4. Mr. Mayer called that day, and said that the seat was nearly done, and that it would ship on April 9. He stated that I would receive and email with tracking numbers, etc. when the shipping label was generated.April 9 came and went. I emailed on the 11th, requesting a progress report, and got an email back on the 12th stating that he would check on it when he opened the shop that day. That is the last communication that I have received from Mr. Mayer directly.I have made repeated calls, emails and faxes since then, with only one response. This one stated that the seat would ship on April 23, thank you for my patience, and was signed Amy. I am still waiting for any communication on tracking numbers, estimated delivery dates, etc.I decided this morning, on a whim, that that I would call the bank and verify the status of the cashiers check. I was told, much to my surprise, that it had been PAID on January 28.I am very angry. It has been over 3 months of anticipation, and 6 weeks of waiting for my property to be returned to me. Unfortunately, I am on the opposite side of the country, 2700 miles away, otherwise I would simply go to his shop and demand my seat.Is there any assistance that you can offer in this matter?Thank you in advance,[redacted]Desired Settlement: I wish to have my property,a two piece motorcycle seat, returned to me within forthwith.

Consumer states that they have received the item.

Review: I sent my motorcycle seat to Rick Mayer Cycle November 30 2014.Seat was to be started on Dec. 16 or there about. Contacted Rick Mayer Jan. 7 2015 and received a response that I would be receiving a tracking # next week. I didn't receive a tracking number or seat. Sent another e-mail Feb.7 and have gotten no response. I have tried to call phone # on web site and a phone # that I believe to be his cell #. No contact made.Desired Settlement: I would like to get completed seat sent to me soon. This is why I ordered to start with. Rick is a great seat builder , but I need to have it completed and back to me.My second choice is a full refund.

Review: At the Chicago Motorcycle show - beginning of February 2014 I meet [redacted] and signed a contract to have the seats of my 2007 BMW K1200GT modified. At that time he stated my seats would be done the end of March to beginning of April. He took a $100 dollars down and asked me to send him the seats. I sent the seats the first week in February along with the required documentation. On March 15th he called me and asked me to verify my credit card number and stated my seats were only a couple of weeks away. On that day he charged my account for the balance of the money! Move forward to today May 13 2014, I have yet to see my seats and cannot get a hold of him. The last email returned was on 5/2 stating my seats were close, on 5/9 I received a USPS notice of a tracking number. I was elated I thought I was going to finally get my seats, checked the tracking number and there is no item attached to it - it just indicates and intent to send something. At this point and four and one half months later I just want my seats back and my money back. I cannot at this point get a hold of anyone, emails are unanswered and the phone goes directly to a fax tone so you can't even leave a message.Desired Settlement: I would like my seats back and a refund if he is not going to deliver what he promised!

Review: In November 2014 I contracted and paid Rick Mayer Cycle to recover my motorcycle seat. I received an email from him in December 2014 advising me to ship my seat to him so that it arrived before January 7 2015. I did shipped my seat and I received an email from Rick Mayer Cycle stating that they had received my saddle and it would be returned to me in approximately two weeks. When I had not received my seat by January 30, 2015 I emailed to check on shipping status. I received an email from Rick Mayer Cycle on February 02, 2015 saying that he was out of the office until Wednesday and he would check then and get back to me. When I hadn't heard anything from him on Wednesday Feb 04, I tried phoning only to find that the phone number listed on my receipt and on his website was not correct. I found a different number at the Revdex.com website and left several messages on Rick Mayer Cycles voice mail. Today, Feb 11, 2015 I have tried to phone them only to find that the numbers are no good. I have a receipt of 454.00 that I paid in November 2014 and a contract.Desired Settlement: I want my motorcycle seat back and a refund if the work has not been done. I want Rick Mayer Cycle to know that this is a very shabby way to treat a return customer and I will not be doing business with them in the future.

Consumer

Response:

Regarding my complaint about Rick Mayer Cycle, I confirmed with the Red Bluff Police Department that Mr. Mayer closed his business and left town. The police department also conformed that they had received several complaints about Mr. Mayer. I guess I’ve lost the seat I sent to him repair and maybe the money I paid him to do the job.

Review: In November 2014 after several emails and discussions with Rick I paid $414 (US) to re-engineer my seat for a 2007 BMW K1200R motorcycle. I then also took photos of myself sat on the bike and sent them with the seat to Rick.In January I contacted him and asked when my seat would be finished and sent back (part of the funds paid were to go towards return postage). Rick told me that I would have it back mid January. I received a call mid January asking me to confirm my address, which I did. I was told he would send it back that day and he would send me the tracking number. No email arrived but I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. I waited a week and then tried calling the number for him and was told that the line had been disconnected. I have sent numerous emails and not had any response. So it seems that he has accepted my seat and payment for work, but I can't tell if he ever intended to complete the work.Desired Settlement: I would like to either get a refund and my seat returned to me in the condition it was sent (very good) or the seat modified as agreed and returned to me.

Review: Contract specified reconstruct and cover driver seat with leather, ship to me Nov 2013, water-proof cover for seat, saddle cream for leather. Whole seat was rebuilt and covered with leather making passenger (pillion) seat slope forward and passenger slide into driver. Seat was promised several times in 2013 and 2014 and not received until May 2014. Water-proof cover and saddle cream have not been received. Most e-mails are not answered, phone is busy or rolls to fax, phone number on web site is wrong, promised delivery dates are a joke. To get the seat modified, I had to ship it to Rick Mayer. This means the motorcycle cannot be used until the seat is returned. I missed two long motorcycle trips because he was SIX MONTHS late modifying and returning the seat. I will not return the seat for adjustment to the pillion seat because I do not want to risk missing more riding time.Desired Settlement: ship the water-proof seat cover and saddle cream ASAP, fix web site contact information, answer e-mails and voice messages.

Rick Mayer is a very poor business man that makes and breaks promises constantly. If you ever get your seat returned, I understand the work is good but there is an excellent chance you may not get it back. I am in the middle of one of his "I'm having difficulties" stories after being promised my seat by the end of December (more than a month ago). I have contacted my credit card company and instituted a charge back which will get my money back but I am now without seats. Sadly, would never recommend him.

Review: 1. Paid over $500 for seat rebuild of a 2014 R1200RT seat in March of 2014. Scheduled seat build in June 2014. Shipped my seat early in June. Many emails and calls to [redacted]. Phone disconnected. Found new number always goes to answering machine. Received a USPS tracking number for shipping in mid July. Several other calls from female employee received in September asking me to confirm shipping address. One UPS tracking label confirmation received mid Sept. Never shipped. Received another call from female employee Sept 24th promising will ship on same date. No tracking update yet, no seat yet. I emailed request for refund and returned seat immediately with no response. Terrible business. This would have been my 3rd seat from [redacted] since 2002. He's always been slow, but this time it's become ridiculous. Especially the line of no responses or if one is received it's been deceitful communications.2. Also, previous seat order for 08 RT seat was to include a rain cover. Promised but never received.Desired Settlement: I want my original seat back and full payment as well as money from previous seat cover never received.

Business

Response:

Business states that his order was processed but there was a shipping label discrepancy and post office held item for a couple of weeks. Business has contacted consumer and informed him his order was resent via UPS.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: No indication the seat has been resent via UPS. No tracking provided. Seems like his typical delay tactic. Still no seat.

Consumer

Response:

Regarding complaint 10246229 from me against Rick Mayer, he has finally shipped and I have received the seat. He still owes me the cover though a minor matter.

Very good seat builder, but a very poor businessman. I cannot recommend him until he changes his ways of doing business.
