STAR Exemption Advisor

Review: My wife and I closed on our home back in August 2012, we applied for the NYS STAR PROGRAM through the Nassau County Assessment Office, we then received a letter from the STAR Exemption Advisor stating additional information was needed to process our NYS STAR PROGRAM application. STAR Exemption Advisor stated they were part of the NYS STAR PROGRAM, we forward the additional information to them, there after we found out they are not part of the NYS STAR PROGRAM. We contacted STAR Exemption Advisor in October of 2012 and explained to them that the application we submitted in August 2012 to NYS STAR PROGRAM was received and complete. We were advised by Nassau County Department of Assessment to have no further dealings with STAR Exemption Advisor. STAR Exemption Advisor stated to us in October of 2012 they would return all our information to us and no further action would take place. We then receive a bill from STAR Exemption Advisor on October **,2013 for their process of paper regarding the STAR PROGRAM. Their paper clearly shows that they submitted this paper work four months after our paper was received and complete by the NYS STAR PROGRAM. This is after they told us they would return our paper work and further action would take place.Desired Settlement: Send me back my paperwork and a statement that I have a zero balance with STAR Exemption Advisor.

Review: I was duped into using STAR Advisor's services because they make the forms look as if there is something officially coming from the state to file for your STAR. I will admit, I should've read through better to see what I was agreeing to but they are clearly taking advantage of new homeowners by sending them these forms and offering to file their STAR for them. I was mortified to learn that I owed them the EXACT amount that I would've gotten from the STAR exemption. I am completely capable of filing for my own STAR exemption and didn't need these services. Again, I know it was my fault for not reading through the paperwork thoroughly. I just feel that this company should not even be in existance or at least shouldn't be taking the ENTIRE portion of the STAR exemption for that year. It's criminal and the person we have spoken to there, "[redacted]"- he won't give out his last name because clearly he must worry about people coming down there to meet him face to face. I tried working with him on a payment plan because I don't want to be sued by him (which I heard he will do), and he was unprofessional and down right nasty. In the long run, I will have to pay this awful human being that is stealing money from people but I just can't believe that he is allowed to stay in business.Desired Settlement: Ultimately, I would love a refund but as I stated above, I know it was my fault, I should've read through the papers more carefully. If I did, I would have never had agreed to having him file this form for me. The desired outcome I want is for the Revdex.com to seriously take a look at this company to see what kind of criminal he is and shut this operation down completely so he doesn't take advantage of more people with his fake, official looking forms- they really do look just like what the state would send.
