Strayer University Reviews (82)

Review: On January 20, 2013, I filed a complaint against "[redacted]" due to an aggressive solicited phone call. Ultimately, I received the business' response and learned that "Strayer University" provided a contracted organization my personal/pertinent school information for marketing purposes. The business indicated in its response that its contract with Strayer provides "default aversion services" on behalf of Strayer University where students/consumers attended. On May 10, 2012, Strayer University, a client of [redacted] assigned to their firm my student's account, which was never in default and I graduated from the University on positive terms - owing no outstanding monies or debt but to my student loan affiliates "[redacted], and Department of Education", which has nothing to do with [redacted]. This unethical deceptive business practices is unacceptable and needs to be addressed, resolved, and ceased from disclosing information without my authorization or consent. Your professional assistance within this matter is greatly appreciated. Respectfully submitted, [redacted]

I would like an explanation and documentation from Strayer University attesting to my account being in default aversion by way of facilitating services to their contracted client. I would like an explanation as to why Strayer University released my personal information (social security num

Review: I graduated from this university in 2008 from the campus in [redacted], NC owing now money or other compensation. Due to the nature of Strayer University (SU), it is not easy to say which specific location is responsible for the problem I have encountered. I am working in another country, so needed some additional work to get transcripts issued to a new school in which I was applying for study.

On August 7th, I contacted a general service number that was given to me by a respresentative of SU during a live chat session ([redacted]) about how to submit a transcript request form as I was applying to a new degree program in CA. After contacting that number and speaking with an operator, I was given an email address to submit my request online ([redacted]) as this region was determined to be closest to the recipient school where I was applying. My credit card was charged on the same day, however more than 3 weeks later no transcript has been issued and no explanation given as to why. SU's website is particularly vague on the subject of transcript requests, but they do indicate that requests should be filled within 10 days of receipt.

To compound matters, on 8/24 - 8/26 I made an effort to contact SU through the [redacted] each night through [redacted] calls. Each time I spoke with someone different regarding why my transcript was not released and when it would be released. Nearly a month has gone by and I still do not have answers to either of those questions. As a result of SU's delay, I have been injured due to my inability to start my studies for the Fall semester and to secure financial aid from the school I was planning to attend.Desired Settlement: Beyond immediately issuing a transcript I paid to have issued nearly a month ago, SU should make this process much easier and clearer obviously. The SU website is useless beyond providing the school form to complete, yet gives no instruction on how or where to submit that. For students like myself who lack access to its campuses, this creates a lot of unnecessary trouble trying to navigate a general system to get information on where to even submit this form. What is more concerning, is when SU's customer service people, whom an automated directory implied are in the related department, are unable to explain why or when a transcript will be issued. Other schools I have attended and made similar requests of are able to issue sealed transcripts within minutes.

As for outcome, while I might argue SU should be refunding the latest transcript fee as a trifling consolation for the damage it has done on my continued education (as for this term), it's more important they revise whatever shoestring system they have in place, if there is one, so that it's students can receive important education documents in a timely manner. At least knowing this will not be a problem in the future will be some compensation.

Review: To whom this may concern:I am an alumni of Strayer University and I cannot find a job or an internship or a fellowship. I have not received any help or any type of referral from my alma mater. I am so disgusted and depressed that after receiving my Masters in Public Administration, I have been so unsuccessful in getting anything. I have asked the Strayer University satellite chapter in [redacted] County) campus for assistance and they told me they have not built any networks here for students such as myself to be placed anywhere. My life is a living hell due to not having any help. I had decided shortly after that I would go after my PhD and was not successful. No one knows about this school but yet here I am thousands of dollars in the hole with no way to obtain a return on my investment. It is so hurtful that after applying for the Presidential Management Fellows Program that I was rejected twice, the first application was rejected due to my need of completing my Masters and the second application was rejected because I could not get anyone from this school to write a referral for me!!! It is even worse when the city of [redacted], GA placed an job advertisement for their Fellows Management Program, that I was promptly denied an opportunity to even interview, but yet this program was advertised through the ICMA website (which Strayer is not connected to at all)!!! I wonder if this institution has even bothered to affliate itself with the many associations that are related to all of the majors such as the International City Managers Association or the Council for Foreign Affairs. Why are there not department head leaders with world connections available to assist with job placement? I wonder how many students such as myself will end up with chronic depression because of your lack of concern. Furthermore, the satellite campus in [redacted] located in [redacted] County does not want to help me out. I do not receive any emails about alumni functions or joining the alumni network. I found out about the alumni organization just by visiting your website. To add more insult to injury, your institution enrolls thousands every year but your networking is terrible and managed poorly by people who do not care to network with their students but yet instead will count their campus success based on their enrollment numbers.Tell me what did I invest my money in? Am I forever now associated with a well oiled machine of greed and no concern? Am I now bound to this school without any hopes of getting help with job placement opportunities that involves a personal referral to apply with a solid chance of getting hired? Why is that your employees like Dean [redacted], and [redacted] have the right to refuse a referral and the right to not create a network within the city of [redacted]? Why is it that I am not assisted in getting a job? Haven't I signed my life away to education loans for the very hope of getting ahead in America due to having a higher degree? I do not really care or want to hear the rubbish of the economy is slow or we cannot provide you a referral because state based universities are and so is [redacted] University. If every school can do that, why is it that your school cannot do that for me?Sincerley a frustrated graduate,[redacted]

Students such as myself need to the ability to work with the alumni association that they offer in order to placed for jobs. There is never anyone there to speak to nor do students such as myself have no specific academic support that knows about our academic majors. I need the ability to escalate to another level but they will not allow me or provide me with the information. Specifically, [redacted] and Dean [redacted]

Good day,

Review: I left the university two years ago. They have contacted me every month for the past two years asking me if I would like to return to the school. I respectfully declined and asked that they would not contact me anymore. That was over a year ago and I told them to take me off of their list two months ago.Desired Settlement: Take me off of the contact list.

Review: I attended and completed a graduate degree at Strayer University, [redacted] campus in 2011. I successfully graduated and received the hardcopy of my advanced degree. Since graduating from Strayer I attempted to get a copy of my transcript forwarded for entry into another degree program at which time Strayer indicated that I had an outstanding balance of over $2000 and would not release my transcript. I have challenged this and to date they are unable to prove that I have this actual balance. I have emails documenting that they were looking into this. Due to their inability to produce proof they are attempting to collect money for attendance that does not exist.Desired Settlement: The outcome is a zero balance recorded and my transcript released to [redacted] University asap.

Thank you for forwarding

case#[redacted] on behalf of [redacted]’ outstanding debt from the

Fall 2011 Quarter in the amount of $2,395.00 was referred to collections on

July 22, 2013.

[redacted] was enrolled in [redacted]

for the Fall 2011 quarter, however; she did not maintain attendance in the

course and as a result, was administratively withdrawn. As per University

Policy, a student is automatically withdrawn after four weeks of consecutive

nonattendance. [redacted] attended from Week 1 to Week 6 and did not attend any

classes from Week 7 to Week 11. At this time, [redacted] was flagged for a

recovery due to the non-attendance. It was determined that she was eligible for

a total of $1,844.00 in subsidized loans for the quarter. Please note that she

signed a Post Withdrawal Disbursement form for this amount. The Disbursement

form gives us approval to disburse the amount to [redacted]’ account. The total

monies disbursed and posted was $1,835.00 after the deduction of processing

fees.

According to the [redacted]

Campus Manager of Student Financial Services, [redacted]’ Winter 2012 balance

was reduced from $3,945.00 to $2,110.00 due to the Fall 2011 quarter

non-attendance.

[redacted] enrolled in [redacted] on

November 10th, 2011 and the registration was finalized on December

10th, 2011. [redacted] did not attend the [redacted] class, which

resulted in a no-show fee of $275.00 for four consecutive weeks of

non-attendance and the resulting administrative withdrawal. The $275.00 is a

total of a $25.00 withdrawal fee and a $250.00 no-show fee. Please note that

the information on no-show/withdrawal fees is outlined in the university

catalog.

As [redacted]’ balance was

incurred in full accordance with stated University policies, I have no basis

for requesting an adjustment on her behalf at this time. The

University considers [redacted]’ outstanding balance of $2,395.00 to be valid

and payable. I strongly recommend that she make immediate payment

arrangements with the collection agency to avoid further damage to her

credit.

In addition, per Strayer

policy as stated in the University Catalog, “Transcripts cannot be issued for

students with prior outstanding balances on their accounts.” This means we are

not able to release her transcripts at this time.

Thank you,

Review: I went to Strayer Online for almost 1 year. After realizing that I was going to hit my Federal Loan Aggregate Limit soon, I decided to go to a local college for a certificate degree. So, I could actually have a degree before my money ran out. Spring Semester was to start April 7th. I requested to be withdrawn on 3/30/2014. Contacted Morgan R[redacted]. Whom, was my student advisor according to Strayer online. I then recieved an e-mail stating that someone else was my advisor now. A Miss Gaye P[redacted]. That she would be calling me soon. No call came. On 4/07/14 I again emailed Morgan R[redacted] stating that I haven't received a phone call. Hours later... Miss Gaye P[redacted] e-mailed me to call HER ASAP. I did. But, didn't get back to me until 4/7/14. 4/7/14 was the first day of classes!!!!!!!!! She withdrew me. I then looked at my balance and saw I owed over $500!. I e-mailed Gaye P[redacted] again asking why I owed so much. She never emailed me back. I called the business office and talked to a Mr. Donnell A[redacted]. Explained my situation. He stated he would take care of it. And, to forward him the emails proving I requested to be withdrawn prior to starting date. I did. 2 weeks went by and nothing. I contacted him va email again and he stated he had no control over it. He had to send it to another department for review!!!! I have emailed him several more times about this and no response! I then wrote a letter to Strayer Online explaining the situation.. And, still has YET to be resolved. Also.. Due to not doing the spring semester I returned my books and NEVER got refunded for that either!!!! This is the WORST experience ever.Desired Settlement: I want my account settled once and for all. I want all of the information I previously submitted to Mr. Donnell A[redacted] to be reviewed and my account finally settled. I also have PROOF my books were returned and signed for! I want my refund on that as well!

I've just been notified of [redacted]'s absence, therefore, I am emailing you the below letter as indicated in her email notification.

Review: When I went to Strayer in early 2012 to do a walk through of their [redacted] Campus, I then signed paperwork to start classes in the fall of 2012. These classes were to start in October. I then did not hear from Strayer so in June I contacted them and was given false information that I had to start classes in June. I spoke with multiple people and they told me I could be better assisted at the Online classes and they changed my home campus. I did not sign anything stating I wanted to participate in classes in the summer term. I was speaking with a counselor who was going to sign me up for the classes in June and I decided I needed to think about it before jumping into school. Before I spoke with him again he signed me up for two classes against my will after the drop dates instilling that I would be charged for the courses. After seeing this I immediately started calling and being transferred through managers that were very rude and disrespectful saying that I could not drop the classes and should be overjoyed to be attending their school. After speaking with a director at the school he told me that as long as I didn't attend the class a no-show fee would be charged and he would then drop this fee. I waited past the no-show deadline and logged onto the campus for the last time and did not see any fees, therefor thinking the matter was resolved. Then in late November early December 2012 I received a collection letter in my email stating I owed them $100 for ONE of the 2 courses they illegally signed me up for! I called and was told to send in a dispute letter so I did and received paperwork not showing that I wanted classes in June but that further backed my dispute of wanting Fall enrollment! This was sent to me on the same day right before there close of business and they had already sent me to a collection agency, all other communication I have tried with them I have been sent back to the Collection agency.Desired Settlement: I would like the charges they have placed upon me to be dropped and the account to be taken out of collections. Also I would like them to report it to any credit agency that I did not owe the debt.

Review: Upon contacting the campus I was informed that I would have to contact the main campus to withdraw from classes and was informed that I would incur a fee of 50% to withdraw from the university. Was transferred to multiple different departments to finish the process and was informed by every department that they could not complete the process. The level of service was subpar by any standards. Especially in the fact that to complete the withdraw I would have to submit a case with the university on my own in the hopes that it would reach the proper department to withdraw from the school.Desired Settlement: I would like to be offered the original amount I was informed of when this process started of the 20% fee.

Review: I started with Strayer University in late 2009 to pursue my MBA in Business Management. I was always told that Strayer would fit my life, and they were pretty understanding when major life events came up, or I was overburdened with work and personal issues, and needed to take time off. I took time off from my studies in 2013, and returned for Summer 2014 quarter to complete my last two required classes. I am now being told that the requirements for the degree have changed, and I have to take yet another class. This is bait and switch. It was not as if I was out for a decade, I was out for a year, and have already completed my capstone. I spoke to my academic advisor and local dean to no avail. Hopefully this can be rectified.Desired Settlement: I would like to complete my degree (pending the passing of my final two courses, which I am taking this term) this term. I think that based upon no previous information ever given to me about "re-admittance" is dodgy at best. Thank you.

Review: I attended Strayer University from January 6, 2014 until 14 February 2014. I withdrew because Strayer Universitys refusal to contact the VA to initiate my Post 9/11 GI Bill. This April I requested a transcript for [redacted] University, it is a requirement for me to attend classes at [redacted] University. I sent a request to Strayer for my transcript, on 22 April I received a notice that I had an outstanding balance at Strayer University. Strayer has never sent me a bill or any notice of payment due at any time. I withdrew before the deadline 21 February and never received any formal notice of a balance due. I submitted all required paperwork to Strayer university to initiate my GI Bill (Certificate of Eligibility) twice. Strayer continued to request this information and would not have their certifying official register me for the GI Bill so Strayer could get paid. I began to feel uncomfortable going to school there anymore if they could not complete a simple task as contacting the VA for their school to get paid. On top of that every few days or so I would get a new person who was my Academic Advisor.Desired Settlement: I would like Strayer University to supply the requested Transcript to [redacted] University I will gladly pay the $10 transcript fee. I would also like them to clear the outstanding balance they say I have since they could not seem to contact the VA to initiate my GI Bill. The outstanding balance is due to their administrative unprofessionalism, therefore they should fix their mistake.

Response:

Good day, Please see the summary results below of the extensive research that was conducted on this case inquiry:

1. Student indicates in her Revdex.com complaint that Strayer refused to initiate

her Post 9/11 GI Bill which was not the case.

2. The student reached out to [redacted] at the university to request that she be

dropped from her courses and the drop case was created on 2/15/2014. Below is a

copy of the email communication from the student to her Strayer contact, [redacted]:

Hi [redacted],

I'm going to have to dis-enroll, this is a private matter that

has come up and I need to focus all of my time to take care

of. Thank you for your support

3. The student requested that she be dropped from her three courses, under

her own personal recognizance.

4. The university Add/Drop period is from January 1, 2014 through January 14,

2014. The student did not request to be dropped until February 2014 which makes

her responsible for the dropped charges.

5. The student Catalog, 2013-2014 clearly indicates the drop dates and

references fees and assessed charges.

6. Before the student was dropped, two university representatives tried to

reach her. The first was on 2/18 at 1:30PM via voicemail and also via email to

her: [redacted] , email. The second was on 2/18 at 6:14PM via her

case#[redacted] in which the resolution to drop her classes as she requested was

completed. In addition, the case indicated that she will be assessed charges.

The student was notified three times in one day that she would be assessed

charges.

7. The student indicates in her Revdex.com dispute that the charges are $5,000.00.

This is not valid as her charges are currently, $2,195.03.

*We resolve that the student initiated the drop request, after the add/drop

period and thus is responsible for the charges for dropping her courses.

Furthermore, the student indicated in her email communication that

she was dropping for personal reasons and she thanked [redacted] for helping her in this endeavor. Finally, the student was contacted three

times in one day to ensure that she understood that her decision would affect

her balance as she was more than a month into the courses and the academic term

when she chose to drop.

The student should make arrangements to pay her balance off as the university

does not release transcripts when a student owes a balance. Thank you for

allowing the Office of Student Affairs to research this case on your behalf. [redacted], Director of Student Affairs, [redacted], ###-###-####

Review: I On or about February 27, 2014, I was attempting to enroll in my last class at Strayer University, and I was concerned about the Veterans Affairs Administration paying for my entire tuition because I only had 1 month and 2 days left my Post 911 GI Bill benefits. I contacted Mr. U[redacted] at Strayer University’s [redacted] campus and explained the situation to him and he informed me that if I had 1 day of benefits and I am enrolled in the quarter, Veterans Affairs Administration responsible for paying for my Post 911 [redacted] GI Bill benefits would cover the entire quarter.

I checked my account on June 13, 2014, and noticed a balance left on my account; I immediately contacted the Veterans Affairs Post 911 [redacted] GI Bill Benefits office and inquired why there was a balance on my account at Strayer University. The Veterans Affairs office informed me that they would normally pay the balance of student’s tuition for a quarter or semester if the student attended a public university and they further informed me that Strayer University is a private school and they do not follow that process for private schools.

I then contacted Mr. U[redacted], who did not provide any relief and he referred me to Mr. B[redacted] the [redacted] campus director, who repeated the incorrect information Mr. U[redacted] stated and I explained to him that is only for private schools according to the Veterans Affairs office. Mr. B[redacted] informed me I could put in a hardship request, knowing he was going to deny my request prior, because over the 241 complaints I’ve read on the Consumer Affairs website indicate these tactics.

I further contacted Mr. Smith the director of Student Affairs, who sided with Mr. B[redacted] based on the information Mr. B[redacted] and Mr. U[redacted] provided stating I was “Well Aware” I would have a balance. I informed Mr. Smith he was misinformed and I would file a complaint with the Revdex.com before I conclude I must pay the balance on my student account.

The basis of my complaint is the misinformation provided by Mr. U[redacted] when I inquired about my tuition benefits. I informed Mr. Smith and Mr. B[redacted], I would not have registered if I knew I would have a $1,500.00 balance. However, this appears not to be the concern of the staff at Strayer University, because their goal is to get you to enroll for the numbers and then you are trapped with paying the university because they will claim services were rendered.Desired Settlement: I would like to have a mediation hearing with a representative from Strayer University who is impartial other than Mr. S[redacted], Mr. B[redacted] and Mr. U[redacted], who will take inconsideration the false information that was provided to me which led me to enroll and if the correct information would have been provided and waive the balance on my account, ,minus the $150.00 graduation fee I am responsible for that the Veterans office doesn't cover. I would not have enrolled in April 2014 if I knew I would have a balance I couldn't pay.

Review: I started the spring semester, first they had me down as an on-campus student when I was online, took forever to get that resolved. When they finally got me on-line, the programming class was all of a sudden shut down, so they then had to transfer me to the global classes. So they hd me sign up for a class they new was gonna be canceled. In the middle of the spring semester, I got selected for verification, not in the beginning, but the middle! I had to file an amendment on my taxes so that financial aid would cover my spring classes, mind you, I'm taking classes and now fighting with the IRS. I told the rep I did not have my wife's SSN# and that she would not give it to me. Rep said to file amendment and that IRS should be able to still proceed. Not true, after 3 weeks, IRS said I had to get her SSN# so now more time is needed. Financial office said If I could get proof that the amendment was submitted they could clear up issue, nothing I gave them was excepted, I have a ton of emails saved from them. I could not take summer classes until the spring class issue was resolved, the IRS is slow and have not made the change yet. Now I got get bill for about $4,000 and also told that since I time has passed and I didn't take summer courses, I have to pay of the spring classes? THEY WHERE THE ONES WHO SAID I COULD NOT TAKE SUMMER COURSES!!!! I have been on the phone getting bounced around and none wants to help me since I'm not taking classes. I got more help and quicker responses when I was about to enroll, now they could care less. talking with legal counsel now to see what my options are. I wanted to remain a student but I'm not so sure now, it has been HELL SINCE DAY ONE! Students affairs takes 2 days to get back to you. This is a disgrace for this school to treat people like they do. I busted my tail as a single parent for my grades, got a tutor and everything. Lost all summer classes and now fall classes. This school will screw you over in a heartbeat. This is university is so quota driven until they wanted me to start right away instead of me starting a little later to get stuff sorted out. "Everything will be fine" is what the admissions rep said...............The joke is on me.Desired Settlement: I want my transcripts for english and math and want them to wait for IRS amendment to go through so financial aid can pay for spring 2014 classes and not me. If not I have a lawyer in the family and can fight this for free as long as it takes.

Dear [redacted],

Thank you for forwarding case #[redacted] on behalf of [redacted]. Initial investigation in the matter showed that [redacted] was not manually selected for verification by Strayer University (“Strayer,” “the University”), but by the Department of Education.

[redacted] filed his Student 2012 Federal Tax Information document requirement on March 20, 2014. On March 21, 2014, [redacted] signed the financial aid deferral contract on basis of being selected for verification.

The verification highlighted that the 2012 taxes that were filed indicated the wrong filing status. [redacted] needed to amend taxes in order to complete the financial aid verification. The Internal Revenue Services (IRS) transcripts did not indicated any changes or amendments.

In order for [redacted] to complete his 2013-2014 Verification Process, he needed to amend his 2012 taxes. [redacted] did provide a 1040X, however, it was not stamped by the IRS field office representative. In addition, [redacted]’s 2012 Accounting Transcript indicated no change.

The Strayer Student Financial Services (SFS) specifically asked for these documents to support that this student indeed processed an amendment return. [redacted]’s initial 1040 form was written in, not typed and 2013 was scratched off and 2012 was written in its place.

SFS started assisting the student through the financial aid process before the end of the Spring 2014 quarter; however, [redacted] lost financial aid eligibility for the Spring 2014 quarter because the verification was not completed in time. This prevented his loans from originating in Common Origination and Disbursement.

[redacted] is aware of the Financial Aid Deferral Contract which states that the student will be responsible for any balances incurred due to failure to provide needed documentation. The contract also highlighted that all required documents needed to be completed prior to the end of the Spring 2014 quarter. This contract was signed by [redacted] on March 21, 2014.

This left [redacted] with a current outstanding balance due the University in the amount of $3,240.38. The balance was incurred due to his Spring 2014 quarter classes as explained above. Therefore, the University considers this full amount valid and owing. I strongly recommend that [redacted] make immediate arrangements to resolve the debt to the University and avoid damage to his credit.

Sincerely,

Jennifer S[redacted]

Director of Student Affairs

Review: Strayer University advertises granting course credit for professional certificates if they meet Strayers guidelines. I have one such professional certificate that is recognized by Strayer that would have given credit to a total of 4 courses. For the past 2.5 years I've been trying to redeem this credit only to be assured that credit will be given and yet it never is. I receive excuses such as "the process is very time consuming". Indeed it is. I'm getting close to graduation and have already taken (and paid for) 3 of the 4 promised courses and am trying to get credit for the final course but am continuously being ignored by Strayer. I understand Strayer is in business to make money which I believe is why they continuously ignore my requests to be credited. I am a disabled veteran on the GI Bill and have earned a 4.0 GPA during the 3 years I've attended Strayer and I expect Strayer to take my education as seriously as I do.Desired Settlement: I would like Strayer to do one of two things to resolve this issue:1. Stop their deceptive advertising that leads potential students into believing they will receive credit for recognized work they've accomplished.2. Actually grant the credit for the last remaining course (of four total) that I was promised credit for.

Good day,

I am sorry to hear that **. [redacted] was having some credentialing issues. I have contacted his campus dean and his campus dean has been in contact with him as of this morning. The campus dean is investigating the situation and will have his credentials/certificate re-evaluated with an update directly to the student.

Review: I was a graduate student for Strayer University. I was a candidate in the Masters of Education, Education Management Program. I have completed 42 hours and I had two courses left for completion. My last period of attendence was in 2011. I had surgery in 2010 and in 2011..In addition to this, I could not find work. I just recently found work and is able to finally afford the costs to go back to school without getting in more loan debt. However, upon my return I discovered that the program that I signed up for was no longer available and that if I wanted to complete my degree, I had to take 27 more credits. The school suppose to be for working adults and military members and dependent friendly. This is taking advantage of me and my family resources. They claim that they give you credit for the course you bring in from other schools and programs, all my credits came from them and now they are tacking on more credits to keep me in school and in debt...This is unfair and I will contact the military department of veteran affairs and resources because this is the money that I will be using to go back, along with some of my own this time...I don't want this to happen to anyone else...I thought this school was legit..Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

This school needs to present me with a waiver and allow me to complete the requirements pending on the program that I initially agreed too. I refuse to pay for an additional 27 more credits...In addition to this, I have had to move all around the world with my husband as a military spouse...and try to find work wherever we go...I want to complete my degree requirements and get awarded the degree that I initially signed up for...otherwise I will

Review: I am writing in reference to Strayer University where I take classes online. I'm writing because I enrolled in Winter classes which are approximately 11 weeks long and would have ended on March 24, 2013. However, we didn't get notice until a week ago that there were only 10 weeks and that we had to do two weeks worth of work due within one week. I have paid for a 11 week course and I should get one. Strayer University admits that they have made a mistake in their scheduling, but I and other students shouldn't have to pay for Strayer's mistake and cram two weeks worth of work into one week and at the same time, Strayer gets to keep my money. If they would have given us enough time to prepare, it would be different, but they didn't say anything until the 10th week of classes. Strayer's email sent 9:35am on March 14th reads:As we approach the end of the Winter Quarter, this is a reminder that this is a 10-week quarter so all assignments must be completed no later than Monday, March 18th at 11:59 p.m. (Note: Assignments listed in the Course Guide or Course Syllabus as 'Week 11 'are located under the 'Week 10 Part 2' unit tab). If you have any questions or concerns, please immediately contact your course instructor. If someone could please help with this, it would be greatly appreciated!Desired Settlement: I have enjoyed my learning experience at Strayer University and did not have any problems at all until this. I am looking forward to finishing my degree with the school, but something like this makes me think that they will do this type of thing again. Strayer University is a for-profit university, but they have shady dealings in the way they swindle their students and get their money. I would like to see Strayer University held accountable for their actions.

Response:

For Winter Quarter 2013, Strayer University

shortened the quarter to ten weeks to allow students an additional week off to

observe various religious holidays and/or travel with their children when many

schools choose to schedule Spring Break. All classes were required to contain

the same amount of coursework as they would in an eleven-week quarter;

professors were allowed to either spread the additional week’s work over the

course of the ten weeks in the quarter, or to have Week 10 and Week 11

coursework both due at the end of Week 10.

Review: I enrolled in Strayer in June 2011 using the United States Army Post 9-11 GI Bill. I enrolled at the [redacted] SC campus and transferred to the [redacted] GA chapter. This transition went smoothly and I did not have any problems. I was called to Active Duty in 2012 and this resulted in me taking military leave. However, the school did not code this correctly and charged me for withdrawing and of course failing the classes. This created a debt with the VA and as a result it was put on my credit report because I was unaware of the school not reflecting a military withdrawl. The school furthur created a mess when they enrolled me for courses in 04/2012 without my knowledge. I came off of Active Duty orders so I enrolled to finsh the courses in Jan 2014. I went into the office on a Saturday and reapplied and enrolled at the [redacted] campus then transferred to the [redacted] campus. I was told my VA paperwork was submitted and the school didnt need anything else. I called about my VA paperwork several times and I even sent emails to my professors letting them know how frustrated I was not receiving payment yet. I feel as if Strayer is trying to take advantage by advertising to military and veterans. This has not been a smooth process at all and the VA rep doesn't know what she is doing. Now the school is sticking me with a bill and they state that they have no knowledge of my VA info. This info is not correct and the school needs to investigate this matter. I have called several times about this bill and about my military absence and no one has any answers. Then I was told that the VA Rep that I was working with has resigned. I would like for this matter to be cleared as soon as possible.Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund

To correct the billing issues and my military absence. You cannot use POST 9-11 funding and be on Active duty at the same time.

Review: After being in this school since Jan. of 2009 this past year and a half has seen me max out my student loans. I started having issues paying to complete my college education. Before the start of the spring semester I took a semester off to catch up on the amount I owed the school. Before returning for the Spring semester I received a call from the school informing me that the school would only be charging me 360 per semester for my final three semesters needed before graduating. As the spring semester was coming to a close and I was informed that I needed to register for the summer semester I was asked how I was going to pay and I replied I would just pay the $360 out of pocket. The financial advisor informed me that that option was no longer available and I would need to pay $3600 for my final two semesters. I was given the guarantee that I would be able to finish up my final semesters for $360 not 10 times that amount.Desired Settlement: I would like to finish my final two semesters for the price that I was given by my financial advisor. I don't see how the company who already over charged its students can back out of a offer they gave to their currently enrolled long time students.

Subject: complaint resolved

To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]>

Hello I am just returning your email to inform you that I have spoken with the business and the issue has been resolved. Thank you for your assistance.

Review: I use to be a student of Strayer University ([redacted] Campus location). I currently owe an balance to my account, sign up for payment arrangement plan, but was not inform the payment arrangement expired and currently owe outstanding balance of over 4,000 dollars (per customer service rep) was told I must pay the WHOLE balance in full in order to take another class at Strayer University ([redacted] Campus). I ask the customer service rep is there any way I can register for class and get back on a payment arrangement paid of 200-300 dollars a month until the balance is paid in full, I was told that was impossible and will not grant me another payment arrangement. (in my opinion) I believe 300 dollars a month while taking class at the same time is a GREAT idea and a great arrangement to pay. I ask customer service can I be transfer to someone that is in charge that I can speak to that will help me out in my situation. I was placed on hold and then the phone call disconnected... (I call a total of 4 times and was place on hold every time I call). It make me feel neglected.Desired Settlement: What I am basically trying to say. Around the time of 2012. I drop out due to (taking care of sick family member) and later on my uncle passed away, and shortly after that my grandmother passing as well. I wasn't able to focus and was unaware of payment arrangement option, or unaware of when the payment arrangement expired. I am basically asking for a second chance in this matter. I want my b.s degree and willing to work with ya'll guys IF I can get on another payment arrangement and keep the payment arrangement going while I am taking class again at Strayer University(re-enrollment). (think about it) 200-300 a month for 12 months runs about 2400 - 3600 will help my balance greatly due to the 4000 that I owe.

PS. due to the passing of my uncle and grandmother, if I show proof of my family lost will I be granted a decrease in my payments as well.

thanks for listening, and I really need this B.S degree.

thank you,

Review: I completed an HR Manager Certificate program in 2011. I called the school to find out what I needed to do to complete the program and graduate. Because this was three years ago my details are fuzzy but the short of it is that I paid a final bill in August 2011 and was told that my certificate would be mailed to me. I never received it but moved, changed jobs and had a baby and it was never important for me to have the piece of paper.

Fast forward to 2014, I went to apply for refinancing and found out that Strayer sent me to collections in late 2013 for $133 that I owed. This was a complete shock to me as I was told by Strayer that I was all set. I called Strayer and they explained to me that I never paid the $150 graduation fee...why I would have only paid $17 of the fee is beyond me and they told me that I had to deal with collections. I told them this was not right as I never had the opportunity to address it directly with Strayer, the operator told me a manager would call me to discuss further, that call never came. I submitted a complaint on line and finally got an email from Miranda R[redacted] with Strayer. She was more than happy to provide me the numerous times the collection agency tried to contact me however Strayer has no evidence of when Strayer actually tried to contact me. The collections agency didn't start trying to contact me until 2012 over a year after I completed the program and due to my job change and moving they didn't have my updated information so I didn't find out until I tried to refinance my home.

I have worked with Strayer to resolve which basically just meant me having no choice but to pay the $133 to get it off of my credit report. They have not apologized for what happened and to this date have no explanation for why someone would tell me I was all set and that they would send me to collections over a year later and do not have any explanation as to why there was no attempt to contact me for well over a year after I completed my degree. I would like to explain that Strayer could have reached me between June 2011 and June 2012 as my mail still would have been forwarded and I still had access to the email they had one file but it wasn't until August 2012 that the collections agency started to reach me and at that point my contact information changed. Strayer will maintain that it was my responsibility to update my contact information with them. My argument to that was if I was told that my education with them was complete and that I would get my certificate in the mail then why would I think to update my information with them? As far as I knew my business with Strayer was done.

I have read other online reviews of Strayer and see that I am not the only student to experience this kind of error in billing where Strayer waits for months to notify their students of payments due. I now have my certificate in my possession but will not be displaying it because I have only ended my education with the feeling from them that all they wanted was my money because as soon as my program was complete their level of customer service dramatically decreased. I find it to be extremely deceitful of them to sit on a payment I apparently owed for over a year before sending me to collections. Had Strayer informed me of the payment owed in 2011 I would have paid it and would still have my excellent credit score, now it will take me months if not years to get back the credit score I once had and there isn't anything Strayer can do to amend that. It would be nice to have the $150 graduation fee back. As Strayer explained to me it is apparently that the $150 was to cover the cost of the certificate that I didn't want to have in the first place. I chose not to walk so not really sure what this money went toward and I think refunding this amount to me is the least they can do after causing me so much inconvenience.

Student Relations is well aware of my complaints with Strayer and they have yet to reach out to me with so much as an apology or an explanation as to why I was sent to collections without the decency of being contacted by the university first. I can never recommend this school to anyone, all they want are people's money and it is disappointing that after paying Strayer thousands of dollars they have ruined my credit score over $133 that they didn't even have the decency to notify me about even when I was on the phone with them finalizing my education with them.Desired Settlement: I would like the $150 refunded to me that apparently was for a graduation fee that I was never billed for or made aware that I owed. I would have paid this amount back in 2011 but it wasn't until I started refinancing my home in 2014 that I discovered they had sent to me to collections after waiting over a year after my education was completed to notify me of the amount I owed. I think this is the least they can given the damage that has been done to my credit score and the fact that I never wanted the paper certificate in the first place.
