The Birdhouse Barn Reviews (67)

Review: I placed a small ($30.00) order with this company on 8/29/14. Their website quotes 3-4 week delivery. Two weeks ago I was told the order would be shipped the next week. Now he is saying it should be sometime next week. He has refused to cancel the order and refund my money because he says "he will be out the materials and labor". I don't think that's my problem. We are now into the 6th week since we ordered and still don't know when we will get out merchandise.Desired Settlement: The owner should refund our money including shipping.

Response:

I have already talked with this customer and he agreed to wait for the merchandise. They already received the order and he is happy with the merchandise.

Review: On April 9th I ordered a salt box lighted 2 story farm house from the Birdhousebarn they took payment on the same day and I received an e-mail saying that it could take up to 2 weeks for delivery. As of today May 13th this order has not yet been received. The order was to be shipped to t (daughter) as a gift I gave them her address in Pa. Which they understood at the time of the order. Since then I have sent out 3 E-mail on there web page I included my phone # and Email address and still have not heard from them today I found there phone # on Revdex.com and I called it went to voice mail and I left a message and phone # for them to call me back and they have not done so.Desired Settlement: I would like the merchandise to be delivered as specified in original order which has already been paid for.

All orders ship within 3-4 weeks as stated on our website. This does not include weekends or holidays. I have sent this customers several emails about the order taking -4 weeks to ship. It is almost finished and will be delivered. Tracking will also be going to her email when it ships.

Review: I placed a $480 order with The Birdhouse Barn on October 13, 2014, for a custom birdhouse for my parents. I was promised before ever giving him the money that it would be ready in time for Christmas. I contacted him on December 4, 2014, to find out the status and was told it wouldn't be done in time. He never communicated with me about this at all until I emailed him about it . He promised that if I kept the order, he would give me a $100 reimbursement on the money I paid and would have it to me by January 5, 2015. I emailed him again on January 2, 2015, to get a status update and was told yet again that it wouldn't be here when he promised. I want what I paid for and am tired of his false promises.Desired Settlement: I want the birdhouse I paid for 3 months ago and a $200 refund.

Below is the link to our ordering information page and it is also copied below.[redacted]Generally after an item is ordered it takes 1-4 weeks to get your item packaged and ready to be shipped ;however, because all our items are handcrafted it can take up to sixteen weeks before we ship your order. We ship most items with FedEx however other carriers may be used. Completion deadlines for custom orders will vary and we cannot 100% guarantee any delivery dates because of our handcrafted process. Guaranteed Christmas delivery orders must be placed by October 15th 2014. (this date is not for custom orders)The customer will received a $100 refund as we agreed because she was unhappy on the timeframe. A $200 refund will not be given. We are estimating that we will have an image and tracking information by January 8th. Once again this date is estimated because of the custom nature of this product. Having never made this exact house before we cannot 100% be sure how long it will take.

I have responded on the reason that a picture has not been provided several times. The customer should have read our "ordering information" page before placing the order. When an order is placed you automatically agree to our terms and ordering information. This page states the fact that an order can take up to 16 weeks and also that we cannot guarantee any dates. I have been trying to estimate completion throughout the entire process which is very time consuming and customized. However I cannot 100% guarantee those dates until the final product is entirely completed. Tracking information and a photo will be sent before January 25th. I assure the customer will be pleased with the quality and I apologize for the wait once again!

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:After all of this waiting, Fred emailed me on 1/14/15 stating that he liked MY birdhouse so much that he was going to keep it. I immediately went online and posted negative reviews on several consumer websites and filed a claim with the WV Attorney General's Office. He was very upset and started begging me to take them down. He even offered me the birdhouse and other products free of charge. Once again, I attempted to work with him. However, after more broken promises and empty lies, I am DONE. I will continue pursuing complaints against him so that no one else has to be conned by this kid like I was.

Michelle Price

We purchased two sets of shutters and paid through PayPal on June 5th. We were told they would be done in 4 to 6 weeks. Because they were going to be used outdoors, we were told they would be weather proofed. We waited almost seven weeks before we contacted him to ask when we would be given a delivery tracking number. He told us it would be another 3 weeks. I contacted him again almost 4 weeks later and he said it would be another week. When that week was up and I had not heard from him or received my order, I googled Fred H[redacted] and the Birdhouse Barn and saw lots of negative stuff about his service/products. I was able to get his phone number off the Revdex.com website where previously he would only allow me to communicate by email. I called him and the women who answered was his mother. I told her I was very close to filing a complaint with the Revdex.com. She said she would have him call when he got home. Within a day I got an email picture of the shutters and he called me to tell me they were going to be shipped within a few days. He also said he would give me a free sign for my trouble. They arrived on September 18th! The shutters were sticking together (probably from paint that had not completely dried). We cannot tell you how disappointed we were in these shutters that we waited 3 1/2 months for. We paid just under $400 for them ($65 of that was for shipping---we were told picking them up personally was not an option). We did not get what we paid for. He did nothing special to them to weather proof them that we can see. Honestly they are boards nailed together with paint slapped on them. We feel so taken advantage of and ripped off. I would not have paid more than $50 for these at a craft show. The sign he sent us looks like it came from the dollar store. Hopefully this review will help someone else not make the same mistake.

Review: ** May 22, 2014, I ordered a magazine rack/tp holder from the Birdhouse Barn for a total cost of $87.24. The product was expected to be shipped within 3-4 weeks of order. I called the company early July and was told it would be arriving soon.

** July 16, 2014, I contacted the company through email as no product was received and I heard nothing from the company for update.

** July 17, 2014 I received an email reply from Mr. Fred H[redacted] stating only "I will have tracking for you next week". (tracking was never communicated to me).

** July 20, 2014

I contacted Mr. H[redacted] again via email thanking him for his previous response. In this email, I requested Mr. H[redacted] cancel my order effective immediately as I was no longer willing to wait for the product, and I had located a similar product which would be received in 10 days. I requested he refund the $87.24 I was charged back to my [redacted] card.

I received an email shortly thereafter advising me "The magazine rack has already been shipped".

** August 2, 2014

I contacted Mr. H[redacted] stating I had not received the product and instructed him again to cancel the order and refund the full amount to my credit card. I further advised him I would be contacting [redacted] and advise them of this matter.

I received an email from Mr. H[redacted] stating the product was scheduled to be delivered on August 6, 2014.

I contacted Mr. H[redacted] again stating I considered this order now canceled and to refund my credit card.

** August 3, 2014

I received an email from Mr. H[redacted] stating "we do not offer any refunds. Only if the item is damaged. We cannot cancel an order because everything is made to order. We do not stock products in a warehouse. We are a small handcrafted business which is a dying breed these days. Most everything you see in stores and online is made in china and unfortunately issues like this is what is causing us all to go out of business. If someone orders something and it takes a little longer for a one-of-a-kind handcrafted, quality piece, we are stuck making 0 dollars having spent days making the product and the cost of materials and shipping. It really hurts us with the labor and cost of everything. While we do put an estimated delivery time of 3-4 weeks online, sometimes it takes longer. I don't believe in rushing an order and losing the quality of an item and we will never do this. The order will be delivered on August 6th.

** August 6, 2014 came and went without product delivery or communication from Mr. H[redacted].

** August 8, 2014 product arrived and I refused delivery.

** August 17, 2014

I received an invoice (#[redacted]) from the Birdhouse Barn via [redacted] for $87.24. I also received a separate email from Mr. H[redacted] stating "I sent a new [redacted] invoice for $87.24. I can also mail a paper bill. We will need this paid within 10 days. I will also need an answer on where to ship the magazine rack since it was returned. We have already lost the shipping charge to and back plus a $20 chargeback fee because you opened that through your card company plus the cost of the materials and time for this order. Thanks".Desired Settlement: Cancel the order. [redacted] has issued a credit for the total amount to my card. Mr. H[redacted] has until 10/10/2014 to respond to that credit. Sending me invoices will not resolve the issue. I have found a similar product that was received within 10 days of my order. Customer service and communication is very, very poor. If the company cannot keep up with product demand, they need to review their business model. Good and truthful communication may have helped to resolve this issue. I feel I have been scammed.

Response:

This customer has already been refunded through [redacted]. I don't understand why she sent a complaint to the Revdex.com. She is clearly confused. None of the information in her complaint was true. She has been refunded several weeks ago.

No invoices or bills will be sent.

Review: On November 3, 2013, I ordered a custom birdhouse to be built like photos I provided. The website depicted ornate homes and their "look a like" birdhouse that was quite impressive. I had hoped it would be received by Christmas, but Mr. H[redacted] indicated that may not be possible and it would be shortly thereafter. On January 26, I received an email that his mother was in the hospital and he was running behind, but I should receive it shortly. I have all the email threads and exchanges. I said I understood and waited. I received the birdhouse on March 18. Had it been a replica of my photos like was shown on the website, I would have been OK with the wait. But it was not. The house is simple, but his "custom replica" was cookie cutter. It was to be a Christmas present for my mother of the beach cottage that was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. It was missing 2 doors (the only doors), the number of windows and their size was not like the photos, and the extended roofline over the doors was not depicted. It was a nice birdhouse, but hardly custom for the price I paid - $275. On 4/9, I requested a partial refund of $175. He finally replied on 5/5 and offered nothing.Desired Settlement: A partial refund like I requested.

Response:

This product was very well made and beautiful crafted. We make birdhouses that "look like your home". Obviously we are unable to make a 100% accurate version cf customers house by just a photo. It was well worth the price we agreed on. We can not get back our time and the labor we spent making custom items. Therefore our policy is no refunds on custom orders. No REFUND WILL BE GIVEN

I am rejecting this response because:I have not asked and am not asking for a total refund, only a partial refund. I have attached the detailed account of the transaction and rationale of why I should receive a partial refund.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:I am not asking for a full refund and never have asked for that. I realize there were material (though not much) and shipping costs and have accounted for that. I am only asking for a partial refund. In fact, before requesting any kind of refund, I brought up the possibility of corrections being made to the birdhouse, but received no reply to that. No response or defense was provided regarding false advertising or late delivery. This was no "custom" birdhouse. This all seems like a buyer beware and Revdex.com should make any potential buyers aware. I realize that Revdex.com can't force a refund, but void of that, an F grade should be provided so that others are not scammed.

Regards,

Eileen Sheridan

Review: December 7 2013 I placed an order with the Birdhouse Barn for 2 birdhouses. The money was taking from my account on December 8,2013. After a month of no product arriving I contacted [redacted]. He stated there was a family emergency and all orders are 6 weeks behind. I respected the fact the he was unable to fulfill the order at that time and agreed to wait. 2 months later I contacted him again and he said he was having a hard time with backorders but mine would be sent out the following week. 3 weeks later I contacted him again asking for a refund at this time. He stated they had been shipped. No orders ever arrived. I tried to contact [redacted] by phone which was unsuccessful.Desired Settlement: I'd like a check sent to me in the amount I paid him of $94.43. The credit card used has been canceled so he won't be able to credit it.
