One of them is to ensure we are removing the correct profile as there are often several people with the same name. Also if you wish to have your family's information removed as well, we must advise you to have them send in a letter as well. One letter per name/request with any information pertaining to the file they wish to have removed.

Review: On three prior occasions, I have contacted this company about removing my personal information from their website servers. I have contacted them by email and twice by USPS mail (both times with the official OPT OUT form) requesting my personal information be removed from the Advanced Background Check website. It has been nearly four months since the third request was sent and my information is still on the company's site. I wish to have all of my personal information on this website removed, including all of my email addresses, my phone numbers, physical addresses, and names. This is my 4th request.I am the victim of stalking and attempted murder by a person who has been recently released from prison. This information may put my health and safety at risk. This is information I have put in all three requests to have my information pulled from the site.Desired Settlement: I would like all of my personal information removed promptly.

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found no record of a previous opt out request from you. Given the situation we have processed an opt out request for you today. Please allow 24-48 hours for this change to reflect online. Public records are collected from thousands of sources. Here are a few examples: Supermarket Rewards Cards: Every time anyone makes a purchase from a grocery store or drugstore with a loyalty or "rewards" card, that information is used to build a very personal profile of your shopping habits. Product Warranty and Registration Cards: Do you fill out the warranty and product registration cards for every new product you purchase? If so, you probably assume this is standard procedure for making sure your warranty is valid. In fact, warranty and product registration cards do very little for the consumer. Moreover, all your personal information on warranty cards is collected and used for marketing purposes. Raffles and Sweepstakes: Though raffles and sweepstakes offer a one-in-a-million chance of winning some type of luxury item, free gym memberships or dream vacations you should be aware how your contact information is used. Often, you are asked to proved Name, address and phone number as a means of contacting you in the event you should win. In reality, this information is used for direct marketing purposes. You do not always have to enter a raffle or surf the Internet for someone to collect personal data about you. In fact, many of the activities and responsibilities you have as a member of society, property owner and licensed driver contribute to what is known as your "Public Profile." Other sources include voter registration, hunting and fishing licenses, magazine subscriptions and much more. We have suppressed your information again as of today; however, anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: It is stated that the information collected comes from public and private sources. I am in the military and this information that has been publicly posted is an invasion of privacy as it includes my email address. This must be removed. Your opt out practices are not secure. All of the information on our website is from public record databases. Every person aged 18 and older can have a public record. This information is collected on a County, City, State, and Federal level, and can also come from reporting information during normal every day activities such as grocery store club cards, magazine subscriptions, voter registration, warranty cards, even fishing licenses, and forms you fill out when browsing the internet. There are thousands of ways this information gets reported.

We will remove this information from being searched on our site once we receive your letter.

I am rejecting this response because: I should not have to submit a letter via snail mail. An email should be suficient.

Review: I have been receiving calls on my personal cell number (which has been my telephone number for 15 years now) for a person I have never heard of. I googled this person's name along with my cell phone number and reached this business's website, which professes to provide background check contact and personal identification information. I see my cell phone number listed as one of three phone numbers. That explains why businesses and collection agencies keep calling me to reach this person. I cannot get them to stop calling. I finally had to call [redacted] to have the number they call from blocked, but there is guarantee they won't simply use another number to try to call me again. So I also called the customer service line of [redacted] company and asked them to please help me. I asked them to remove my phone number from this person's contact information and informed them it was incorrect. I also took it upon myself to try calling the other two phone numbers listed. It turns out that one of the numbers is disconnected and not in service and the second one belongs to someone (also not this person) else, and I informed them of this issue too. That their contact phone number is listed for a person who is not them.I pleaded for help in asking them to remove my number. The first person I spoke to asked me to fill out their form to have the number removed, but I was hesitant to give them any additional information in sending this to them via mail. I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me then that I coud not use the form because the profile belongs to someone else, but then, when pressed, told me that users do not own this information or profile and that they get it from third party companies who provide this data to them and they are not responsible to guarantee it's correctness. She basically told me there is nothing I can do if my phone number is listed for another person and it's not their issue. If they are posing as a background check company, they need to ensure that info is correct.Desired Settlement: I want my cell phone number removed as it is incorrectly associated to someone else and I get continuous calls from collectors and other businesses trying to contact someone else.

Review: Advanced Background check invaded my privacy rights online, by making my personal address (my home) public without my permission. It is the only website where you can find my address publicly (without paying for the services) online. I have asked them to remove my personal information from their website and they have not done so, therefore, I am filing a complaint with the Revdex.com that this online service is invading my privacy rights. Also, I do not feel safe because my address can be found so easily online. I live in a home with children and a family and Advanced Background check has made me and my family feel very unsafe.Desired Settlement: I would like Advanced Background Check to remove my personal information (name, age and address) from the their website immediately.

Review: Used and paid service for one time use only. Never saw any notice or box to check or uncheck for auto monthly renewal. Called once before and cancelled, but still hitting my credit card. Had to cancel credit card to get away from these people. It's equivalent to stealing as far as I'm concerned. The information provided was no more than what can be gathered on your own. If the service is worth anything, they wouldn't have to scam people for a monthly fee.

Response:

We have reviewed our files and our records show that on 8/3/2013 an order for a search was placed by this customer. At that time they had the choice to select a regular priced background check at $14.95 or the seven day trial membership for unlimited background checks for $1.00. On 8/3/2013 the membership option was affirmatively selected by them. On the initial order selection page and again on the payment information page it is clearly and conspicuously stated that unless the user cancels the service it will continue to renew at the chosen membership period (3 months, 6 months or one year). They had the option to cancel this membership at any time via their account manager, email or over the phone. We did not receive a cancellation for the membership therefore, per the selections made by the user at the time of purchase, it renewed on the fourth day and every year thereafter. The charge of $59.88 is normally non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to. However, we will grant a refund for the membership fee ($59.88) as a one-time courtesy.

Review: I requested that they remove my personal information from their website, along with my husbands. They said I had to fill out an "opt out" form & mail it in. The form requests additional information that we do not feel comfortable giving. I asked them how they got my private information (email address, cell phone, children's names, mother's maiden name etc). They said it was public record. My cell phone & email address are not public information. They have all of my family info as well as our living addresses and that of our families. We have NEVER posted any of this information and we do not use social media. They said they had to have all aliases/AKA's as well that were listed on the site: [redacted], [redacted], [redacted] are listed. My Husbands Info: My husbands info is: Name: [redacted] Address: same Phone: ###-###-#### [redacted]Desired Settlement: I requested that she remove it via email or over the phone & she said she could not. I told her I did not feel comfortable sending my date of birth & additional info and she told me "oh well" and "too bad".

Response:

I am rejecting this response because I have never filled out any of the examples they provided as I have had my identity compromised a few years back. I emailed them as well as calling them directly to get my information removed. I advised that I do not want to send my personal information via the mail as anyone can open it. They requested additional information such as my date of birth, aliases, all addresses for the past 20 years etc. Why would I provide them with more information when I don't want them to have the information they already have? I do not understand why me typing it and mailing it is any different then me typing it and emailing it to them. Me sending the letter by mail is just a slower version of them receiving my email. Mind you, they have my email address posted on their website so the request is coming from the same email address.

Review: I have used this websites opt-out policy by completing the required form and submitting to have my personal information that I did not authorize to be suppressed from this website. To date they have refused to do so. I constantly receive the run-around from this organization. Response:

I am rejecting this response because:

I made numerous attempts on my own to resolve this issue and was ignored. I have led my life to avoid filling out information that they have outlined in their response: ie: fishing lic., subscriptions etc. The fact they can obtain my personal information for publication based on my drivers lic., number yet alone my voter registration information without my consent is considered illegal in my eyes. Basically, they have gone out-of-their-way to obtain information on myself to sell to others. A class action suit is definitely being considered.

Sincerely,

Review: Improperly displaying my name and personal information in a web search, and they refuse to take it down via their opt-out program.

Their current opt-out program states that I need to send postal mail and they will not utilize an email request. They also want more personal information than they possess. They want my current information as well as information dating back 15 years. When questioned, they made no promise or guarantee to not sell, give away, or utilize this information in other fashion. I see no purpose for them to have it in order to remove my personal information from their web site.Desired Settlement: I want all my information removed from their site permanently and forever without providing them additional details that can potentially be used by them for their benefit, or the benefit of their partners/friends/colleagues/associates.

To take 2 - 3 hours off of work to go find a printer - buy an envelope-find and buy stamps is a really ridiculous request when it is my privacy that has been violated. Response:

I am rejecting this response because:First of all it is not a "courtesy" to remove private and shameful information about a person who has committed no crimes and never harmed anyone. Yu have set up a culture where people do not even want to register to vote and are punished for doing good things such as participating in society. Despite the legality it is really unethical. Also the lack of transparency as to where the "public" information comes from is abusive. After a timely but worthwhile search it os clear the information ultimately comes from credit check compaies such as [redacted] and [redacted] then through the next layer such as Merlin data to be purchased by companies such as yourselves. When people request clarity it should be given so they can freeze accounts at places such as [redacted].

Review: Advancedbackgroundcheck.com has my name, address, and age readily available to anyone who puts my name in the Google search. I do not feel safe.

Advancedbackgroundcheck.com has my name, age, and full address in their databases. Per the instructions on the website to remove such information, I mailed an opt-out request form and a copy of my state ID (to verify my identity) via regular mail to remove my information from their database on December 16, 2013. On December 24, 2013 I called to see if the request was received using the number provided (855) 240-6392. A woman picked up the phone. I explained that I mailed the form and I want to know if it was received. Her response was she wouldn't know because the opt-out requests go to another office. This answer in itself is a problem because if your're a "reputable business" how do you not know? Or maybe they are not? Anyhow, this says to me they could easily say they never received the request if a person does not send it certified mail.

I asked her can I have the number to the "other office" and she hung up on me. I called back twice and it would ring numerous times then disconnect. This says to me that there is no real customer service unit, but one person answering the phone. On the website, there is an option to send an email through the website so I did, explaining what happened, and ending with I want to know if the opt-out request was received. There has been no response or even an automated reply saying my email was received and the matter is being reviewed.

This website is very dangerous in the sense that if someone wants to steal your identity or stalk you they can because Advancedbackgroundcheck.com makes it possible. If your're a battered woman, this website makes it possible for your abuser to find where you live. This is especially a problem for someone like me who has a unique name, a name only I have. I have been a victim of identity theft so this website does not make me feel safe at all.

They give this excuse that what they post is public information, however it is one thing to go to a state agency to request a record (which you have to give a written request and reason for), it's something else to aggregate that information onto a website. They also say they "do not have to remove it" but do so as a courtesy. Their is nothing courteous about hanging up the phone on me or not answering emails when I am trying to get the information removed. They are clearly selling people's information and/or receiving people's information (information that may be correct or incorrect) from a third party, which would not have been noticed if they did not publicize it on the internet. [redacted], another one of those kinds of websites, had to settle with the FTC for $800,000 for selling people's information to employers. It is not fair what these websites like Advancedbackgroundcheck.com are doing.Desired Settlement: I want Advancedbackgroundcheck.com to permanently remove my information in its entirety from their website, affiliated websites, links, and advertisements.

Review: This company is supplying incorrect information that could cause harassing phone calls, mistaken identity, etc. On their site I found a lot of incorrect information regarding me and my family members. They have provided a wrong phone number for me and have posted names of people that I'm suppose to be associated with and I don't even know these people and I feel this could be dangerous. They have also posted my 76 year old mothers' e-mail address which I consider very dangerous. Something must be done about this. I get phone calls all the time from collection agencies and it takes me forever to get them to realize I'm not the one they're looking for!!!!Desired Settlement: They must remove all information that they have listed for my family. If not, I will consider legal matters. I must have this in writing that they have removed info.

Response:

Unfortunately, there is no specific place to update your records. You could possibly check with your local City Hall, and see if they can give you any information on their records. Other than that public information is gathered in a variety of ways and every time you subscribe to magazines, have your phone number listed in the white pages, register to vote, or simply enter to win a car at the mall this information is gathered. We do not update or modify any of our records, simply display them as they have been reported to us. We apologize that we could not have been more help to you in this matter. Public records are created from a variety of sources, including phone directories, property records, birth and death records, magazine subscriptions and voter registration cards. Although we provide public records, we do not create or modify them in any way. We are only able to display the information provided in each record, so we cannot guaranty their accuracy.

AdvancedBackgroundChecks.com values your privacy and, upon written request, can block your records from being shown in many, but not all, of our search results. To do so, you should contact us by writing a letter giving us your:

First name

Middle initial

Last name

Aliases and A.K.A.'s

Current address

Former addresses going back 15 years

Date of birth

It is also very helpful to include a printout of the records you wish to have suppressed.

Review: To Whom This May Concern,

The company fails to remove my information and honor their code of conduct even after I submitted a physical form (printed from their website with every question answered) and mailed to the PO listed. I called and the representative, who said they never receive it and refuse to provide any alternative way to submit the privacy request (such as email, fax or another mailing address). The person on the phone asks me to send it in again, and I wonder if this is part of their "buffer strategy" to dishonor the request. The form has sensitive information, so sending it again and taking the chance of having it magically disappear is just not the way to go. I asked to speak to a supervisor and even this request was denied.

Note that I have a record from this company saying that they have the right to broadcast my private information to the general public, and there is no law that requires them to remove it. If the company still refuses to remove my information after this complaint from Revdex.com, I will seek for legal advice.

If an email advertisement is required to have "unsubscribed" link, I don't see how this company can get away by not providing a friendly opt-out option. The company is pulling information from other existing website that I may or may not have giving my authorization to release the information. However, Advanced Background Checks is definitely publishing my information without my written or electronic consent. This is already "somewhat" violating the provision of the Privacy Act, and not providing a feasible method to remove the privacy information is just making the matters worse.

Desired Settlement: What I am looking for is very simple. I am hoping the company will accept my request by either (i)via email, (ii)via fax or (iii)at least allow me to send my form to another mailing address with a name I can put down on "attention to", because obviously the PO BOX failed to receive my request.

I look forward to resolving this issue in a peaceful and friendly manner, just so I don't have to look for an attorney and start a class-action lawsuit to protect my information.

Thank you.

Initial Business Response

We apologize for any inconvenience. We have suppressed your information again as of today; however, anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it. We are one of hundreds of websites that provide this information.

Public records are collected from thousands of sources. Here are a few examples:

Supermarket Rewards Cards:

Every time anyone makes a purchase from a grocery store or drugstore with a loyalty or "rewards" card, that information is used to build a very personal profile of your shopping habits.

Product Warranty and Registration Cards:

Do you fill out the warranty and product registration cards for every new product you purchase? If so, you probably assume this is standard procedure for making sure your warranty is valid. In fact, warranty and product registration cards do very little for the consumer. Moreover, all your personal information on warranty cards is collected and used for marketing purposes.

Raffles and Sweepstakes:

Though raffles and sweepstakes offer a one-in-a-million chance of winning some type of luxury item, free gym memberships or dream vacations you should be aware how your contact information is used.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

To Advanced Background Checks,

The "response" itself is not satisfactory because the information provided by the business is inaccurate, but since my desired resolution is achieved, I decide to move forward and close this complaint.

First, I am aware that many other companies are doing the same thing, but your firm is the worst to deal with. Yes, other companies may have ask for more information (such as driver's license) to suppress the record, but they accept fax or email and they do remove it accordingly without create extra barrier to get this job done. They also don't have removal form "disappear". Maybe you should look up Spokeo and see how they do it?

Second, the information provided to an organizations, such as reward cards or product warranty, grant them the right to share that information to a third party, which is your company in this case. I understand that you can use this information for internal purposes but it will require you to receive a written or electronic consent to disclose the information. Please refer to Privacy Act 1974. The only reason that your industry is not getting sued yet is because most of you are behaving nicely by removing the personal information from public website without giving customers too much trouble. Your company is about to ruin it for everyone. As your company and industry grow, you will become more profitable and easier to target. This is how Facebook got sued for violating the Privacy Act.

You are for fortunately that Revdex.com is helping us to resolve issues. From your complaint record on Revdex.com, it appears that your business have done this to many customers. Just friendly advice here, all those records will go against your business in the future so you might want to start thinking about making it easier for individuals to remove public disclosed record (again, like Spokeo) before you become the first target in the entire background check industry.

Review: Our phone numbers & address are unlisted (we pay to remain unlisted) as we have small children at home & don't want our personal address, phone or email as public information. We have politely requested numerous times to have all of our info removed (via phone & email) but were told we HAD to mail a letter request via postal mail. We have mailed (2) letters within the last 6 months requesting removal as per their instructions but they STILL REFUSE to remove our information. I just called in again today and they just laugh saying "it must have got lost in the mail..." TRANSLATION: They WON'T REMOVE YOUR INFO UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES and know there's nothing anyone can do. We have been trying to have our info removed for close to a year now. We're retaining an attorney and are filing complaints with all of their upstream hosting & domain providers (Akamai Technologies Inc. + others)

The people who own & operate advancedbackgroundchecks.com should all be put in jail and at a minimum be put out of business.

I want Advanced Background Checks to remove all of our info immediately, no more excuses. Every other internet database has removed our personal info. Advanced Background Checks is the only entity that is publishing this personal information of ours for the general public to obtain freely and won't remove us no matter how many time/types of requests we make. To add insult to injury their "Supervisor" named "Mike" invited me to "come kick his [redacted] if I didn't like it", what a rude mn!

Desired Settlement: I want my phone, address, email & all info removed from Advanced Background Checks. I don't ever want my personal information published by Advanced Background Checks in the future. I don't ever want Advanced Background Checks to share my personal information with any other entity.

Review: Hi, could you please remove my email from your website?[redacted]Thanks!Desired Settlement: Email removal please.

Review: I have made multiple requests to have my personal information removed from the service providers database and those requests have been denied.

The service provider gives detailed information about me and my family without my consent. The company insists I provided MORE information about myself than they possess to initiate any type of removal process. They also require I pay, time and money, to get my information removed.

I am listed in many do-not-call/contact lists and those requests have obviously been ignored by this service provider.

I am a veteran of the US Army. I fear for the safety of my family when a company can post private information on soldiers and ignore requests/requirements to remove/exclude said data.Desired Settlement: I want all my personal information and immediate family's personal information removed from the company records. I want this information to NEVER be accessible publicly through the server providers database.

Initial Business Response

All of the information on our website is from public record databases. Every person aged 18 and older can have a public record. This information is collected on a County, City, State, and Federal level, and can also come from reporting information during normal every day activities such as grocery store club cards, magazine subscriptions, voter registration, warranty cards, even fishing licenses, and forms you fill out when browsing the internet. There are thousands of ways this information gets reported.

Our records do not show any written requests being processed to remove this information. AdvancedBackgroundChecks.com can block your records from being shown in many, but not all, of our search results by written request. To do so, you should contact us by writing a letter requesting such. You will need to identify which listing you are referring to by providing-

First name

Middle initial

Last name

Aliases and A.K.A.'s

Current address

Former addresses

Date of birth

It is also very helpful to include a printout of the records you wish to have suppressed.

Opt-out requests are processed in the order in which they are received. Sometimes requests can take longer than normal based on an increase in the volume of requests received. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will be working to process your request.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

The response exemplifies the issue I described in my complaint. I am not providing information about myself that they do not have. I am not devoting more of my time or money to making a "written" request. It is not reasonable to demand a "written" request when email and phone have been used to establish contact.

Their policy is designed to make it inconvenient on the individual who never consented to their "service" of consolidating information.

Final Business Response

We are not required to remove any information from our website; however, we offer the option to as a courtesy. We are not refusing to remove your information. We will remove this information from being searched on our site once we receive your letter.

Every person in the United States has a public record. That is a total of about 315 million listings. You will need to let us know what listing you are referring to in order for us to remove it. As we stated before, you may include a print-out of the listing you wish to have removed. Again, we do not collect information from removal requests but this way you are not including any 'new' information.

Review: I sent a written request to have my personal information - phone, address, age, and name removed from this website and have not received any reply.

As stated above, I have requested from Advanced Background Checks to remove any information pertaining to me from their website. As of this date they have not yet done so.

I have been the subject of harassment and do not want my personal information (age, address, phone number, email address) available to anyone that "Googles" my name.

I do not know where this company has compiled this information from, but this poses a danger and risk to other people who do not routinely check the internet.

Again, I have requested, in writing from this company that they remove my information and they have not done so, nor have they even acknowledged my request.

Thank youDesired Settlement: Removal of all of my personal information (name, age, addresses, phone number, email address, etc.) from their website

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

Thank you for your assistance.

I will send the company another written request for them to remove my personal info from their website and I will check to see if they actually do follow through.

Hopefully, the information will be removed from their website in a quick and reasonable amount of time. I think that should become part of their statement contained in their "privacy" notice as to "when" they will remove the info. In other words, how long will they take - hopefully within days and not months.

Unfortunately, current law permits this by making such personal information so easily retrievable by anyone who performs a simple search of a person's name. Doing so allows those with nefarious goals to exploit and possibly do harm to others.

Again, thank you.
