Review: My personal information was posted online by this company and I never authorized this. They posted a address that I use to live at in full 10 years ago as well as a email address that has been closed for the same amount of time. I am HIGHLY upset that my personal information is put out there for the world to see without my approval. I wrote the company an email but they refuse to respond. I hope that someone can help me as I feel my privacy is being violated. Thanks again...Desired Settlement: Remove anything about me that was posted online against my will... Initial Business Response

We apologize for any inconvenience. Opt Outs are handled in the order in which they are received. Please allow two to five weeks for your removal request to be processed and take effect online. Public information is gathered in a variety of ways and every time you subscribe to magazines, have your phone number listed in the white pages, register to vote, or simply enter to win a car at the mall this information is gathered. We do not update or modify any of our records, simply display them as they have been reported to us.

anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name re-appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it. We are one of hundreds of websites that provide this information.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

Review: Failure to remove personal data as requested.

I have requested that AdvancedBackgroundChecks.com remove and/or suppress all of my personal information from their site. I requested this by email pursuant to their instructions as follows in their Privacy Policy's dated 7 May 2013, section IV. As stated "If you email us directly, please clearly indicate the information that you wish to have changed or clearly indicate that you wish to have your personally identifiable information removed from our database. We will endeavor to comply with your request as soon as reasonably possible.". All subsequent emails from this company has been to state that I have to fill out a form and mail it to them and to state that the an email was an insufficient request.Desired Settlement: No settlement is being requested at this time, just removal and/or suppression of my personal information.

Business' Initial Response

We apologize for any inconvenience. Public records are collected from thousands of sources. Here are a few examples:

Supermarket Rewards Cards:

Every time anyone makes a purchase from a grocery store or drugstore with a loyalty or "rewards" card, that information is used to build a very personal profile of your shopping habits.

Product Warranty and Registration Cards:

Do you fill out the warranty and product registration cards for every new product you purchase? If so, you probably assume this is standard procedure for making sure your warranty is valid. In fact, warranty and product registration cards do very little for the consumer. Moreover, all your personal information on warranty cards is collected and used for marketing purposes.

Raffles and Sweepstakes:

Though raffles and sweepstakes offer a one-in-a-million chance of winning some type of luxury item, free gym memberships or dream vacations you should be aware how your contact information is used. Often, you are asked to proved Name, address and phone number as a means of contacting you in the event you should win. In reality, this information is used for direct marketing purposes.

You do not always have to enter a raffle or surf the Internet for someone to collect personal data about you. In fact, many of the activities and responsibilities you have as a member of society, property owner and licensed driver contribute to what is known as your "Public Profile." Other sources include voter registration, hunting and fishing licenses, magazine subscriptions and much more.

We have suppressed your information again as of today; however, anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it. We are one of hundreds of websites that provide this information.

Review: Advanced Background checks uses canned responses when they reply to an email. I don't think they actually read them. When messaging their facebook and twitter pages they always say they "don't have access to that information". This is 2014 it's not that difficult to get that information. How can they not get information from their own website/company?They have the email addresses and the phone number that are linked to the info I want removed yet still wanted a letter so I sent one. Yet the info is still there without me knowing they even got the letter. They require you to mail a letter, which our family did twice now. I asked them if they got the newest letter yet and they couldn't say yes or no. They instead copy and pasted one of there several responses they always use.I wouldn't have filed a complaint but the customer service is more like a robot than an actual person when using email.Desired Settlement: I would like the info in the letter I sent to be removed from your website. The links I gave them still show up. The info should be completely removed not partially removed.

Business

Response:

Our records show that we have previously received and processed an opt out regarding your information. When searching on AdvancedBackgroundChecks.com we using the name you provided today, we do not find a result that matches your information. If you are still seeing your information on our site please provide the URL where it appears and point out which listing you are referring to.

Consumer

Response:

I didn't contact advanced background checks lately but It looks like what I wanted to get removed got removed.

Review: I've attempted to work directly with the organization without any success. AdvancedBackgroundChecks has located money owed to me or "unclaimed" from various addresses. AdvancedBackgroundChecks objective for doing this is now deemed suspicious and malicious as they will not remove my contact information and there is no visible company profit to be gained by posting my addresses, residences, and money owed by each vendor on their website. In addition, this business practice is endangering both me and my family's well-being by promoting, endorsing and elevating criminal activity. AdvancedBackgroundChecks has not complied with my email correspondence requesting for them to remove all of my contact information from their website immediately. They have informed me that they will not remove my information from their site unless I mail my request to them. If AdvancedBackgroundChecks is not reimbursing postage and/or shipping fees, in order to protect my family ASAP, the webmaster needs to remove my contact information from the AdvancedBackgroundChecks website, database(s), and complete the necessary Trouble Tickets to remove any and all static information from cached pages, search engines, the world wide web and any affiliates AdvancedBackgroundChecks has sold, rented, leased or given my contact information to.I've supplied the company with the three addresses currently listed on their site to be removed from their website immediately.Desired Settlement: Stop:-Promoting and advocating criminal activity for funds/money owed instances and putting a consumer's well-being is at risk. -Suspicious and malicious activity vs. adding a cost to consumers which the company doesn't pick-up nor profit from.Start:-Simplifying the opt-out process for people who do not want their contact info listed.Continue:-Helping customers find unclaimed funds/money owed as advertised by their site. -Responding in a timely manner.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found that the three listings you are referring to were submitted to our IT department for removal on 7/28/2014. Please allow 24-48 hours for this to reflect online.

Review: I was trying to sign up for the $1 background check and realized that I was charged $14.95.I called customer service immediately (within 5 minutes) to cancel and no one would help me get a refund. I spoke to two people and the first one was extremely rude.I had to call my bank and tell them I didn't authorize this charge.I emailed the company again to give them the opportunity to please refund at least $13.95.I will not be using this service again. I thought the website advertising was very confusing...there was no bubble to click for the $1 option even though it was advertised. It looks as if you automatically get the first three days for a $1 and if you cancel before the 72 hours, you will not be charged the $14.95.However this is not the case. They lure you in with the $1 offer for three days, deceive you so you have to click on a product that will charge you $14.95 or higher, then say it was your fault and deny you of a refund. Poor customer service, billing, advertising...I believe they are cheating people.Desired Settlement: I would at least like $13.95 refunded...but believe I deserve the entire $14.95 for all of the time it took to call, email, and report to Revdex.com.

Business

Response:

AdvancedBackgroundChecks.com is a self-service website. Users must select the appropriate product and proceed through checkout. We have reviewed our files and found that on 7/22/2014 you had selected the $14.95 price for one report. As stated in our Terms of Use, we do not offer refunds for the product you ordered. In addition we have found that you may have already contacted your bank or Credit Card Company and filed a dispute. Often, due to the dispute, you are given a conditional refund by your bank; therefore we cannot offer you a refund. Please to allow time for your financial institution to review the charges for validity. Usually this process will take a few billing cycles and they will notify you of the outcome via mail. You will now need to follow their policies and procedures regarding these charges.

Review: The website AdvancedBackgroundChecks.com is publicly displaying information for myself against my will. When contacted to remove it , you are subject to a 2 day waiting period while the info (that should be displayed on their page first off) is emailed to you. When you get the email it says then you must mail them a letter.. This is obviously a stall tactic to try to persuade the person contacting them not to follow through or get distracted. They just used email , we know they have it at their computer based company. This company is purposely trying to avoid having an easy privacy policy. Due to the fact you must also mail in a form , you are being imposed a finacial fee of a stamp to make the request as well. While they do not collect directly, you have to pay to have your info removed via their shifty methods.Desired Settlement: My information removed from their website and an easier policy instated for ALL.

Business

Response:

We only accept opt out requests via mail. If you would like to be opted out from AdvancedBackgroundChecks.com then you would need to send us the letter we requested. If we do not receive your request via mail, we unfortunately cannot remove the information. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: the company want adressed, but it was great of them to verify my every word. The reply was a rehash of my complaint.

Business

Response:

We do not accept opt out requests via email nor is it required to email us the opt out request. Again a mailed letter is required for removal. We are not required to remove any information from our website; however, we offer the option to as a courtesy. We are not refusing to remove your information. We will remove this information from being searched on our site once we receive your letter.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:it validates my complaint rather than showing the company as a company that will value peoples privacy. In 2014, this is a big deal. Given every other website of this genre removes stuff online, it is pretty easy to tell they are making it hard on the people whose info they are selling.

Review: My personal information is publicly listed on the Advanced Background Checks website. By Florida Law, statute 119.071, my information is not public record since my husband is a sworn law enforcement officer and I was a social worker for the department of health. I made contact with the company by e-mail advising them of their violation of Florida law by posting this information publicly. I am not simply requesting removal because I do not want my information public; I am requesting removal because my safety could be at risk and Florida law provides me these protections by keeping my information confidential. I find it unreasonable that I can contact the company by e-mail, but I have to request removal by mail-in correspondence only. I can provide the same information by e-mail proving my identity and profession as I could by mail. E-mail is also a safer and more secure method of providing this information.Desired Settlement: please remove all content that violates Florida statute 119.071 from your website in regards to my personal information.

Review: This company has false, inaccurate information about me & also posts my address which should be confidential. People who search me think I am a fraud

I have requested an opt out by sending in a form as they had suggested I do. However, they have not honored my wishes. They keep posting my address everywhere in their database. Also, because some of the information about me is false people who search me think I am fraud and I am not an architect. This is ruining my business. I dont know how many times I have complained to them to please get rid of all information about me. No one knows which one is fake and which on is true. Desired Settlement: GET MY NAME OFF THEIR DATA BASE.. IT'S TOO INACCURATE !!!

This company is falsely listing my business telephone number (which I have had for years) as being the "current phone number" of an individual that is not me, and not associated with me or my business in any way. I contacted them and asked them to correct the information, and they refused, claiming they merely publish "public records" information and have no responsibility for the accuracy or reliability of the information. They also claimed that they could not identify the supposed public record source of the bogus information they are posting online about my actual telephone number. I found out about this false use of my phone number when I gave it to a new acquaintance and she googled it (which everyone does these days) and saw this bogus listing on advancedbackgroundchecks.com, and questioned if I was really me! Can you imagine having your identity questioned because some shady company is to too lazy to verify information before posting it on the internet (or knowingly and fraudulently posting it)? I purchased the background check report to provide to police for investigation of potential identity theft by the person supposedly using it, and my phone number does not appear anywhere in the report! They are total scammers! I have subsequently filed a complaint against this company to the FBI/IC3 for identity theft, the FTC for false advertising, fraud, and identity theft, and will be filing a complaint with the attorney general of my home state for investigation for false advertising, fraud, and identity theft. This company, and companies like them, need to be held accountable for the accuracy of the information they put online, and for the real life consequences they cause when they publish false information about people. If anyone else has been the victim of misrepresentation by this company, I strongly suggest you report them to the FBI/IC3, FTC, and your state's attorney general for investigation. Any civil litigation attorneys reading this, these guys are a potential libel and invasion of privacy class-action lawsuit just waiting to happen, and I am surprised that they haven't been sued out of existence yet.

Review: This company must not publish my private information on their website. I did call them, and they make the process difficult that wanting me to fill a form and send it by mail to them.Desired Settlement: Remove my information right away when they receiving my call.

Business

Response:

All of the information on our website is from public record databases. Every person aged 18 and older can have a public record. This information is collected on a County, City, State, and Federal level, and can also come from reporting information during normal every day activities such as grocery store club cards, magazine subscriptions, voter registration, warranty cards, even fishing licenses, and forms you fill out when browsing the internet. There are thousands of ways this information gets reported.

We will remove this information from being searched on our site once we receive your letter.

It is very helpful to include a printout of the records you wish to have suppressed.
