Review: My personal information was posted online by this company and I never authorized this. They posted a address that I use to live at in full 10 years ago as well as a email address that has been closed for the same amount of time. I am HIGHLY upset that my personal information is put out there for the world to see without my approval. I wrote the company an email but they refuse to respond. I hope that someone can help me as I feel my privacy is being violated. Thanks again...Desired Settlement: Remove anything about me that was posted online against my will... Review: I have asked that my name and information be removed from their site. I do not want my address or phone number name or age on their website.Desired Settlement: Remove my name from your website

Business

Response:

We apologize for any inconvenience. Public records are collected from thousands of sources. Here are a few examples:

Supermarket Rewards Cards:

Every time anyone makes a purchase from a grocery store or drugstore with a loyalty or "rewards" card, that information is used to build a very personal profile of your shopping habits.

Product Warranty and Registration Cards:

Do you fill out the warranty and product registration cards for every new product you purchase? If so, you probably assume this is standard procedure for making sure your warranty is valid. In fact, warranty and product registration cards do very little for the consumer. Moreover, all your personal information on warranty cards is collected and used for marketing purposes.

Raffles and Sweepstakes:

Though raffles and sweepstakes offer a one-in-a-million chance of winning some type of luxury item, free gym memberships or dream vacations you should be aware how your contact information is used. Often, you are asked to proved Name, address and phone number as a means of contacting you in the event you should win. In reality, this information is used for direct marketing purposes.

You do not always have to enter a raffle or surf the Internet for someone to collect personal data about you. In fact, many of the activities and responsibilities you have as a member of society, property owner and licensed driver contribute to what is known as your "Public Profile." Other sources include voter registration, hunting and fishing licenses, magazine subscriptions and much more.

We have suppressed your information again as of today; however, anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it. We are one of hundreds of websites that provide this information.

Review: The website www.advancedbackgroundchecks.com/d/[redacted]/XXXXXXXXX

lists all my private information free of charge.

If you visit http://www.advancedbackgroundchecks.com/d/[redacted]/XXXXXXXXX

it lists all my previous addresses, age, contact phone number etc.

These information are supposed be provided to people who pay for the service.

I tried to file a request at the company website to keep my information private, however, the website requests even more sensitive private information.

I need all records and information about me (paid or otherwise) to be removed by the company. I do not grant permission for this company to store or transmit my information.Desired Settlement: I need all records and information about me (paid or otherwise) to be removed by the company. Review: I have repeatedly tried to have my information removed from the site. The online tool they have for removing information is a scam. They require security words via captcha , but no words are made visible to type in. I have emailed them and told them of the problem to no avail. This is a matter of my families security .Desired Settlement: I would like all of my information removed from the website. Including cell phone numbers and addresses. My family has been put at risk due to ongoing criminal matters and this site has given my address and cell numbers to the person that has been stalking my family.

Review: MY PERSONAL SAFETY AND WELL-BEING HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY COMPROMISED BY THIS COMPANY, AS THEY POSTED MY PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET.

I have never done ANY business with this company, and I would love to know what "third party" "shared" my personal information to them and for what purpose but to post a single woman's full name and complete home address found simply by placing my name in the search engine. It's one thing to have my name, age, town, it's entirely unacceptable to have my complete address for ANYONE to have and find. I'm tired of this complete invasion of privacy and putting me in a position I have to be fearful? I want my name, address removed from your "database" and wiped clean from any google/bing any search engine where YOUR company or any of your affiliated companies post my personal information. It is dangerous and irresponsible. I will deal with any others as necessary, but yours was the one- Advanced Background Checks, that I am concerned about and want immediate assistance in this matter. Consider your own family, people you care about, this is NOT RIGHT. Do the right thing! Think before you POST!! Thank you.Desired Settlement: I want my name, and full address and whatever other information you have on me that you chose to make of public record without my consent removed immediately. If you know what companies have compiled my personal information and shared that with you, please let me know who they are so I can change whatever I have to prevent this from happening. I do not know how this is legal. It's sad, and it is scary. Please do not give me a "general" lecture on how this could have happened, your duty is to not let this happen. Would you be happy if your daughter, your wife, your sister's information was out there for ANYONE to find and easily access? You know the answer to that. While this is about me, I'm letting you know, I shouldn't have to go through this process to correct what you already put out there, is out there, and who knows who has that information. Again, crazy, and scary!! Just get me completely out of your system, So in the VERY NEAR future I don't see my complete street address associated with anything Advanced Background Checks. And I do want to know your source(s)- your Segway to doing this to me. So I can deal with them accordingly. Is it a charity, a donation I made? Is it a site I visited? Shopping or otherwise? I have a legal right to know "who, what, when, where and how" this happened and how I can prevent it, again. and please, not a flimsy, general non-helpful response. You know the source of how you got this information. And whoever that thoughtless party is or was, is no excuse for your company to do what you do. I don't think you have any idea of what you have done. Sad.

Review: Company is posting fake profiles with personal information about me without my consent. These are spammers, they create fake profiles and then charge money to other people to get my personal information so that people can carry out identity theft. They have two profiles on me that I want removed. I contacted their support department and they sent me an email soliciting EVEN MORE personal information. This is NOT an acceptable solution. The only acceptable solution is for them to remove my two profiles and NOT put them back up in a month. These people are scam artists. They will do anything to find your information (including falsely offer to remove a profile). This needs to be stopped.Desired Settlement: remove the following profiles;http://www.advancedbackgroundchecks.com/d/elise-diels/615100564http://w... ALL associated information. They want you to send them letters with addresses and birthdates, in order to remove the SAME info--ridiculous! REMOVE the profiles. The only people I will provide personal information to is the Revdex.com. I will not give these people more ammunition to scam me, my family, or other innocent people.

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found that we have not received a valid opt out request from you following our Privacy Policy. You can block your records from being shown on many, but not all, of our search results. To do this you will need to send a letter to 1915 21st Street Sacramento, CA 95811.

We need to be able to identify and validate which listing you are referring to by your letter. It is acceptable to use a print-out of the page you have included the URL of here. Simply indicate which listing you would like removed. If you are uncomfortable with providing identifying information to us, even though we do not create or modify the public records available on our site in any way, it is acceptable to use a print-out of the page you have included on this complaint. Either way we require a mailed letter in order to have your information removed.

We are only able to display the information provided in each record, so we cannot guaranty their accuracy. New public records are created every day, so we are always able to offer the most up-to-date and accurate information possible; however, this information must be publicly reported by the person.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I'm not going to send even MORE personal information to a site that I didn't authorize to post ANY personal information in the first place. You may have skated through the legal process thanks to a lack of internet regulation, but what you are doing is unethical and a complete scam. This isn't rocket science. You created entries for my name/info independent of the legitimate places "public" information is stored without any authorization. YOU are in the wrong. YOU should remove the entry. THAT should be the end of the discussion. The complaint will remain open until you remove the entries.

Business

Response:

You are welcome to print the webpage and highlight the listing you would like removed. We do not create or modify the information but this way you are not providing any new information if you are uncomfortable. Again we will remove your information once we receive your written request.

Review: I followed the company's instructions for requesting the removal of personal information, however, none of the requested information has been removed.

The date of this complaint is Friday, September 20, 2013.

On approximately August 13, 2013, I mailed a request (pages printed from the Advanced Background Checks website with information to be removed highlighted along with a note to please remove the highlighted information) that all information (e-mail address, phone number, street address, possible relatives) for the following people be removed from the Advanced Background Checks website:

[redacted], jr.

[redacted], jr.

[redacted] III

[redacted] III

I have called several times since August 30, 2013, because none of the requested information has been removed. Additionally, when I requested assistance from customer service representatives I was met with rudeness and even had my call disconnected. As of today (September 20, 2013) I left a message in a supervisor voice mail box requesting a return call. During this voice mail message I also noted that I would be making a report with the Revdex.com.

My family does not want our personal information available for anyone's use, hence my request that all references to the names listed above be removed. Desired Settlement: Please immediately remove all information (e-mail address, phone number, street address, possible relatives) for the following:

[redacted], jr.

[redacted], jr.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

All requested information has been removed from the Advanced Background Checks website.

Review: I was charged after my free trial, even though I canceled it before the period was up. I am upset that I lost $30 for nothing (the service did not render any info that I couldn't already find online for free). That is why I canceled it right away, and sure enough my card was still charged. I am a teach and also a student, I cannot afford to be taken advantage of like that.Desired Settlement: $29.97 back into my account

Business

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found that an order for a search was placed by you on 7/24/2013. The three day trial renewing into the three month membership was affirmatively selected by you during checkout. Our trial memberships are not free and at this time you were charged $1.00 for the trial. We did not receive cancellation during the trial period, therefore you were billed the membership fee on the fourth day, and every three months thereafter. You failed to contact us to cancel until an email to our Customer Care department on 8/1/2014. Per this emailed request we closed your account and refunded the most current membership fee of $29.97. The previous four membership fees are non-refundable per the terms you agreed to and the amount of time that has passed since the charges occurred.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: Company has listed my personal information with their website. This is a detriment to my privacy. Being the fact that I have worked for the local government, dealing with criminals. I requested that all my information be removed. They answered requesting more detailed information. Also, that the opt out needs to be mailed directly to a p.o. Box. I told them this will not be done and I would contact authorities in regards to their unethical tactics.Desired Settlement: Remove my information completely from the website. Also, do not post any information with out permission from myself. These companies should not have ridiculous opt out policies and request for further information. In a digital age these request can and should be done electronically.

Business

Response:

We ask for your information in order to distinguish you from everyone else on the United States and to better remove you from our database. You are not required to provide any additional information. All of the information on our website is from public record databases. Every person aged 18 and older can have a public record. We have suppressed your information again as of today; however, anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:There has been no action to remove my information from this site. It seems like a regular occurrence for this company to publish peoples name and home address and con them into giving out more information before validating their request. Please refer this to the California State Attorney General and the FTC. There have been various of complaints already filed. Not many people know that this information about them is out there online publicly accessed, but if they did I am absolutely positive they wouldn't want it there. Please have the company remove my information, as well as refer this company to the Attorney General and the FTC. Businesses like these should operate to help the people, while protecting their identity.Thank you,[redacted]

Review: This website is a dangerous, sketchy business and I want my personal information including addresses and phone numbers removed IMMEDIATELY. This is completely unethical. I had an unwanted visitor show up to my place of residence who found my address on this website. I DID NOT authorize my phone numbers and addresses to be put on there. It is a total breach of privacy and you may be able to claim the "public record" argument but what you're doing is totally unethical. I downloaded the Opt Out form and lo and behold, the address to which the form needs to be sent wasn't displaying properly, and furthermore, I AM NOT giving more personal information to you in order to get my personal information removed. I emailed in regarding this issue as well. I refuse to give more personal information - this business is a SCAM and they don't realize they are putting the safety of women and children in jeopardy bu publishing so much personal information without the consent of the individual. I don't want to have to call a lawyer, and I don't want a runaround. This is my families' SAFETY at stake and I want everything removed immediately without argument, or you will be held responsible should something else happen.Desired Settlement: I want my information removed immediately. I am not sending in the form only to give more personal information - I just want the information removed. This is my families' SAFETY at stake and I want everything removed immediately without argument, or you will be held responsible should something else happen like what happened earlier.

Review: This website provides VERY detailed history about my personal information/addresses. I have contacted them to remove my information but it remains online. I feel it is a violation of my privacy and a safety concern to have that information shared publicly. There are other websites that have had the same information but have online opt out forms where it was a simple process to have my information removed. Advancedbackgroundchecks.com has no online opt out and instead provides a long form you have to fill out with all of your past addresses and then mail to them. I wish for all of my private information to be removed now. Thank you.Desired Settlement: I would like all of my personal information removed from this website as soon as possible.

Review: My phone number is an unlisted and unpublished phone number and it is being published by Advanced Background Checks on their web site, www.advancedbackgroundchecks.com. I pay to have my phone number unlisted and it should never be published without my consent. In addition, Advanced Background Checks has published my personal email addresses. Review: I have received several telemarketing phone calls lately and upon further research, have found that my personal information is posted online. Anyone can simply Google my name and find my cell phone, home address, age, etc., on Advanced Background Checks website. This just opens the door for potential identity theft! What's worse is that this company requires a mailed written letter requesting your information to be removed. There is no simple "Opt-Out" email, or form, or phone number. Instead, we have to waste time and money (postage) to make sure our personal information is removed. Moreover, why are people's personal information so public? If the point of this company was to provide subscription services for businesses or others to do background checks wouldn't they want to mask everyone's information and only provide it when a customer pays a fee for use? This company is making it easy for the identity thieves and for free!Desired Settlement: There should be a better way to Opt-Out of having your personal information posted online for all the public to see. This company needs to develop and online form, or provide an email to have these requests sent for free. Snail mail is not a simple method and costs money!

Response:

Review: These people put the wrong data online and then expect a letter to remove incorrect information. An email was sent to them explaining the details and a direct link to the incorrect info. They list our phone number for 3 people who do not exist at our business. So on a daily basis we get bombarded with phone calls asking for those people. I spoke to [redacted] and [redacted] at Advanced Background Checks on the phone for nearly an hour and ended up yelling at them with a few choice names. An email is written notice and is a legal and binding document. Instead of replying to the emails they have read, I have a read receipt, they copy and past the same thing back. If they have time to reply, they have time to remove the wrong information. Besides, mail is not very green any more.Desired Settlement: Remove the information. They have the email and if need be, I am be more than happy to send it to them again.

All of the information on our website is from public record databases. Every person in the United States aged 18 and older can have a public record. This information is collected on a County, City, State, and Federal level, and can also come from reporting information during normal every day activities such as grocery store club cards, magazine subscriptions, voter registration, warranty cards, even fishing licenses, and forms you fill out when browsing the internet. There are thousands of ways this information gets reported.

We are not required to remove any information from our website; however, we offer the option to as a courtesy. We are not refusing to remove your information. We will remove this information from being searched on our site once we receive your letter. As stated in our Privacy Policy and our email replies, the six emails we have received from you do not constitute as an opt out request. Unless otherwise required by law, we will only accept opt-out requests directly from the individual whose information is being opted-out and we reserve the right to require verification of identity and reject opt-out requests in our sole discretion. A mailed letter is our chosen method for verifying your identity. We also want to make sure you are aware that anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files even after removal.

Response:

Your

business's phone number is coming up under these names because these

individuals have publically reported that that is their phone number. The

information on our site reflects the underlying public record data. As we have

stated, we are one of hundreds of websites that merely distributes this

information.

Technically,

this information is not yours to remove but would be controlled by the individuals

that have reported this phone number as theirs. It would only be up to these individuals

to manage their own public profile. Even given this, we will accept and honor your request only through a mailed letter. We reserve the right to refuse any opt out requests at our sole discretion.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:This business is using the web to prmote a false phone number. Tehy know it does not belong to the names posted and have it posted electronically yet refuse to accept a simple email that they have the wrong information posted and that it needs to be removed. The phone number is ours as we pay the bill for it and have so for many years now.

"Even

given this, we will accept and honor your request only through a mailed

letter. We reserve the right to refuse any opt out requests at our sole

discretion."

This statement reads as if you will accept a letter but may still reject it. Which is it. If you can use electronic means to post them then you can use electronic means to remove them.

Review: Website has posted my name, address and other information that is critical to my privacy. They require you to physically mail them MORE information in order to remove these types of posts.Desired Settlement: I need the webpage that shows up under a search for my name to be removed without "requiring" more information from me. Posting the URL here would just create another Google entry I do not want. They will have to search my name and delete it that way.

We have reviewed our files and found that we do in fact have an opt out on file regarding your listing. Today we have submitted a request to remove one additional listing. Please allow 24-48 hours for this to reflect online. Feel free to let us know if your information still appears on our site after this time. We recommend contacting us directly regarding this and providing the URL where the listing still appears. Public records are collected from thousands of sources. Here are a few examples:Supermarket Rewards Cards: Every time anyone makes a purchase from a grocery store or drugstore with a loyalty or "rewards" card, that information is used to build a very personal profile of your shopping habits. Product Warranty and Registration Cards: Do you fill out the warranty and product registration cards for every new product you purchase? If so, you probably assume this is standard procedure for making sure your warranty is valid. In fact, warranty and product registration cards do very little for the consumer. Moreover, all your personal information on warranty cards is collected and used for marketing purposes. Raffles and Sweepstakes: Though raffles and sweepstakes offer a one-in-a-million chance of winning some type of luxury item, free gym memberships or dream vacations you should be aware how your contact information is used. Often, you are asked to proved Name, address and phone number as a means of contacting you in the event you should win. In reality, this information is used for direct marketing purposes. You do not always have to enter a raffle or surf the Internet for someone to collect personal data about you. In fact, many of the activities and responsibilities you have as a member of society, property owner and licensed driver contribute to what is known as your "Public Profile." Other sources include voter registration, hunting and fishing licenses, magazine subscriptions and much more.We have suppressed your information again as of today; however, anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site you will need to notify us so we can remove it.
