Capital One Financial Corporation Reviews (2378)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my...

complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. There are three components to this issue, the business (Capital One) has only addressed one of them. The correspondence regarding the actions taken to close the fraudulent accounts is satisfactory.
The second issue as to how MULTIPLE accounts could be opened fraudulently within a span of days is not addressed nor resolved, there is no recourse or recompense for their failures. In this age of technology there should be some mechanism or means to prevent multiple accounts attached to one personal (not business) SS# to prevent issues such as these from occurring. Telling the customer to place fraud notifications on the credit bureaus for the businesses failure to accomplish due diligence s not a solution.
The third issue and most frustrating, which received barely a passing mention in the correspondence is the horrible, rude, frustrating and inconvenient manner, method and means of Customer Service (or lack thereof) to address the businesses failures which allowed fraudulent accounts to be opened and used.
In total I had to spend more than 5 hours on the phone over multiple weeks and months to address Capital Ones failure to protect and safeguard my credit profile and information.
I had to speak with numerous persons (many unintelligible) in numerous departments to not accomplish a single positive event.
It was only after contacting the Revdex.com that a representative form the business reached out to me that was able to begin to correct the process.
In closing I wish to have my complaint stand for others to see.

Again, this account, along with others that were open around the same time under my name, are being disputed under identity theft.  My personal identification was stolen in 2007, and accounts were opened in my name during that year, and in 2008.  I discovered this when pulling my credit report.  This appears to be a case of identity fraud.  What is the phone number that has been linked to the account?  May I see the signed statement, as I didn't see it as part of the billing paperwork?  I was unaware of this account until I saw it on my credit report, and I immediately disputed it with Credit Bureaus, and have been disputing it since.

Dear [redacted], I am reaching out to you about the concerns filed with the Revdex.com (Revdex.com), regarding your credit limit being reduced. I’ve attempted to contact you...

by phone but I’ve been unable to speak with you. Please allow me to provide the following information. Our goal is to provide the highest level of quality service to all of our customers. We’re sorry to hear that the service you received did not meet your expectations. Please be assured that management has been provided the feedback. I understand you’re upset because we reduced your credit limit on your account. After a thorough review, we confirmed the credit limit on this account was reduced from $[redacted] to $[redacted] on November 1, 2016. We sent a letter on November 8, 2016, advising you of the account change. In addition, you stated that the reasons for the credit limit reduction were unclear. Below I have listed the reasons for the credit limit decrease, which were in the letter you received: • Recent proportion of revolving balance(s) to credit limit or high credit on Capital One accounts have been too high • Recent revolving balance(s) on Capital One accounts have been too high • Your average monthly payment has been too low compared to your balance • Recent usage of this account for monthly spend has been too low You also stated the reduction in your credit limit caused your account to go over the credit limit. I’ve confirmed that your current balance is $[redacted] and that you did not exceed your $[redacted] credit limit. The federal [redacted] prohibits creditors from discriminating against applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age (provided the applicant has the capacity to enter into a binding contract); because all or part of the applicant's income derives from any public assistance program; or because the applicant has in good faith exercised any right under the [redacted] The federal agency that administers compliance with this law concerning this creditor is [redacted]. © 2016 Capital One. Capital One is a federally registered service mark. All rights reserved. Regrettably, we are unable to increase the credit line back to the $[redacted] credit limit. If you would like to apply for a credit line increase in the future, we offer three ways to request a credit line increase. They are all self-service options and in most cases, you can receive a response immediately. • You can apply online by logging into your account at www.capitalone.com. Click on the Services tab, then select the Request Credit Line Increase link and enter the requested information. • You can apply on your [redacted] or [redacted] by logging in to your account through the Capital One mobile app. Tap the Profile Pic to bring up the menu options then tap Settings and then Request Credit Line Increase. • You can also apply by phone through our automated system. Just call our toll free number: 800-257-1847. Once you are connected, it will begin asking you a series of questions for which you will simply speak your responses. You can also enter the information using your touchtone keypad. If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at 800-955-1455, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET. Their ATM's have stolen my money 3 times and I had to wait to to receive the credit. On one claim they reversed the credit months later and just took it from my account out of no where.
No letter was ever sent and the credit rep isnt available and hasn't called me back. These people are thieves. They can just take your money when ever they want.
Absurd- save yourself and your money. You are supposed to be able to trust banks.

All I have to say of this company is they are a bunch of money hungry [redacted]. Recently in sending documentation from my bank they still refused to accept that as proof of payment was made on my account. After you send the information to them they turn around and then send a letter saying that the proof was not acceptable. They also make it very difficult because you cannot get a copy of the check sent because they process it as an ACH. So the bank has no copy of the check. The payment investigation department sucks and would not ever want anyone to apply for the card because all this company is a bunch of money hungry [redacted]. I will be taking my business elsewhere because of the crap you have to go through to get something straightened out. If they won't accept information from a print out from the bank then the investigation department needs to be shutdown and this company should be out of business because they are all is.

Dear [redacted], This letter is in follow-up to your Revdex.com request for validation of the account, payment...

arrangements, and to delete the account from your credit file with the Consumer Reporting Agencies (GRAs). I have information to share. A review of your account shows we received a letter from you dated April 2, 2015, requesting for assistance with making payments on the account due to a hardship. On April 10, 2015, a letter was sent to you advising you to contact [redacted] at [redacted] as they are the new owners of the account and can assist you with payment arrangements. Due to delinquency, your account charged off on November 3, 2008, with a balance of $1 ,040.56, and sold to [redacted] on June 22, 2009. Capital One is no longer reporting your account. The debt buyer [redacted] may still be reporting the account. Please contact [redacted] at [redacted] for any questions or concerns regarding the account. I have confirmed the account was opened on March 9, 2005. I have enclosed a copy of the application. The application has an address listed of [redacted], California [redacted]. This address has been linked to you through public records from February 2005 through October 2013. For your view, I have enclosed a copy of the application and copies of statements from September 2006 through October 2008. If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at [redacted], Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT. When contacting me, please be sure to have the following six digit phone PIN number available: [redacted]. I'm glad to help any way I can. Sincerely, [redacted], on behalf of Capital One

Dear [redacted] This letter is in follow up to your concerns directed to the Revdex.com regarding the payment holds...

being placed on your account. I have information to share. I would like to apologize for the frustration that you have experienced while dealing with this matter. I have issuedetimes Capital One will place a hold on a payment to allow enough time to pass for yo a $50.00 credit to your account for the inconvenience. This credit will appear on your August 2015 statement. I understand it can be frustrating to make a payment and then not have the funds immediately made available to you. Somur bank to process your payment. You might see that your bank authorized the payment, but since it’s electronic it will take a few days for the payment to be cleared. For this reason, when you contact Capital One we have to process a conference call to your bank to release the funds. I have reviewed your account and confirmed your account was handled correctly. We found no errors with how the payments were applied to your account. While we cannot guarantee if holds will continue on your payments, there are a few things that you can do to reduce the likelihood of having a hold placed on your payment. ? Continue making payments on time ? Avoid having payments returned ? Avoid making payments greater than the credit limit ? Avoid over limit status on the account ? Use the same bank account for payments If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at 800-955-1455, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT. When contacting me, please be sure to have the following six digit phone PIN available: [redacted]. I am happy to help in any way that I can. Sincerely, [redacted], on behalf of Capital One

On Saturday, April 5, 2014, I called Capital One to pay my balance over the phone. I took a loan from my 401(k) to pay Capital One and another lender. The amount owed to Capital One was approximately $4,800.
I used my debit card to pay the balance. I was told that the transaction was declined and that they needed my checking account information. I provided this information, and thought the situation was resolved.
Immediately after the phone conversation with Capital One, I checked my bank account online and saw that the debit card transaction was not cancelled. I called the bank to make sure of this, and they confirmed that not only had the debit card transaction been approved and the funds withdrawn from my account, but there was also a pending checking account transaction from Capital One in the same amount.
I requested a conference call with Capital One, my bank and me so I could ensure that the situation was resolved. I was ensured that the second transaction would be cancelled, and that $4,800 would not be deducted from my bank account twice.
This morning, sure enough, the second transaction cleared. I called Capital One and spent hours on the phone. First, I was told that they could refund the debit card transaction, but that it may take up to 60 (yes, SIXTY) days to process. I am sorry, but that is unacceptable. If I make my payment 1 minute after it's due, I am charged a late fee, yet they can take $4,800 more than they're owed and take 2 months to pay me back?
Finally, they agreed to stop the checking account payment. They told me I should see the money back in my bank account by Thursday. I'll believe it when I see it though.

Account must remain open and it will remain open. It will take me several months to transfer everything again. I already went into a lot of legwork to make this my only bank of choice and now you are simply closing the doors to me because you have poor resources to manage the money.
I am also going to be seeking legal advice over this as no bank has done that before because of payment rejections.

Whoever replied to my complaint has horrible reading comprehension skills, as they only addressed 1/4th of the complaint. The main issue i,s that in the 4 years I've been able to apply for a credit card, my [redacted] score has been anywhere from 480 to 712.
I have applied for a Capital one card over 10 times in those 4 years, each time Capital one denied me for an credit card, with various reasons stated. Each time I would rectify those reasons, they would come up with new reasons on why I was denied.
At one point in time, I had a 712 credit score, very little credit card debt, 100% on time payments and very few inquiries. I was able to apply for a couple nice credit cards, but capital one still turned me down.
On the other hand, my friend who had a [redacted] fico, was [redacted] dollars in student loan debt, had over ** inquires, and almost * collections was able to get two different credit cards from Capital One.
That right there is sufficient evidence to believe that capital one has blacklisted me from their system.
I am asking that either Capital One allows me to have one credit card with a limit of $300, or remove all inquires from account. If capital one cannot do one of the two, I am taking this matter to court, as I believe capital one allowed me to damage my credit by allowing me to apply for a card, but not approving me no matter what.
Regards,[redacted]
