Colorado River Adventures Reviews (91)

Review: I went to a rv show at cal expo in sacramento, ca while I was there I put my name address and phone number in for 2 drawings. 1 for a tv and 1 for an android tablet. there was no one at the site to tell you who this was with or what company it was with so I stupidly thought it was with the rv company that was showing their products. I then get a phone call that said I won the android tablet but I had to go to some resort and do a walk thru and listen to their 1 1/2 hour sale promotion. I told person on phone I didn't know what they were talking about to send in mail what was going on. they kept sending me a cover page and no explanations. I keep calling them they keep telling me I talked to a representative at rv show which I never did had I known this was a ploy to get you to come to their place I would have never filled out the form. I feel that this was done as a promotion and should have been advertised as this. there was no person or paperwork to tell anyone what this was for. I feel sorry for all the people who put their names in and received the phone call like I did and know nothing what they were talking about.Desired Settlement: I would like the android tablet I thought I won but this is probably impossible so I would also like them to display their paperwork on the product they were trying to sell.

Response:

I have addressed the customer's issues with our marketing manager. We do a lot of shows as partners with our RV Dealer affiliates. Yes, we gather names at these shows, it is the purpose of our presence at the show. Normally there is a representative present, however. I do not know why there was no one there.I apologize for any miscommunication on our part. Most people are happy for the opportunity to visit our park and receive their gifts. Those who do not wish to do so need merely to let us know "they are not interested". I have made sure with our marketing department that we will no longer attempt to contact Ms. [redacted]. Again, I apologize.Sincerely,[redacted]Office Manager

We received an offer for free camping and gifts to attend presentation at Emerald Cove in Parker, AZ. When I called to schedule, I asked them to check if we had been there before because first time was a requirement. The salesman told me we had not been there so we scheduled. We had to cancel our first appointment and reschedule. Again I asked them to check because I thought I remembered camping there though it could have been through a campground membership we used to belong to. I was told we had camped there but not attended their presentation so we drove over 150 miles. At our appointment time, 3 days after our arrival, we were told we had been there before and were therefore not eligible for the free gifts promised. They had plenty of opportunities to tell us we had been there before that would have saved us time and fuel but, apparently, they chose not to. We were told we had been there previously 9 years ago. I remembered the campground but nothing about their membership info. Easy for them to say we had previously done a presentation whether we did or not so as not to give us our free gifts. How many of us would remember that far back?

Review: We purchased a new RV and were promised a one year membership to use CRA's RV resorts. Well, when we called to set up an activation time, we were informed that we could only stay at 5 of their 10 resorts for the initial tour. A subsequent email then informed us that we were entitled to 20 free nights at one resort only. The certificate says "membership" not "trial membership", "modified membership", or "limited membership". The brochure states "Your complimentary membership allows you access to ten five star West Coast locations...". Thats "10" not "1".

I assume that real members have no such limitations.

We were not told any of this when we first called and set up our activation tour. We only discovered the limitation in an email from CRA. We called back to confirm and were told by a supervisor that these limitations were indeed the case.

This is clearly deceptive advertising.Desired Settlement: We will agree to attend the required activation tour at our local CRA resort. We then expect to receive a one year membership with no limitations on which resort we can use, with the same benefits other members would be entitled to. If this is issue is not resolved by 4/23/15, we would expect our 30 day "deadline" from RV purchase to be extended.

Response:

I am sorry that Ms. [redacted] feels that we misled her. Our Dealer "Membership Certificate", that she refers to, clearly states "This certificate entitles you to a Complimentary Trial Membership for one year in Colorado River Adventures....." Along with this certificate the purchaser receives a brochure (booklet) showing all 10 of our resorts. This brochure is given in order to show the potential customer all about our company and show that we are an established and reliable company. Yes, when a customer calls to book their initial visit, we explain that we have only so many active sales locations. THey are able to choose any one of those resorts to visit and activate their trial membership. Of course, when questioned, we explain that the trial membership is just that and includes limited usage. We feel it is better to disclose it's limitations prior to the 1st visit in order to prevent confusion. We are a RV membership campground, in the business of selling memberships to RV owners. We wouldn't be in business very long if we gave away what we are trying to sell. We also are firm believers in full disclosure. We disclosed the details of the trial membership to Ms. [redacted] prior to her fist visit, leaving it up to her whether she wanted to take advantage of the offer....or not.If Ms. [redacted] desires to visit one of our sales locations she can expect the trial membership that is promised....nothing more.Thank you - [redacted], CRA Office Manager

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Ms. [redacted] says that CRA has a "full disclosure" policy - but the 20 visits at only ONE location is not described in their brochure, the Membership Certificate or in the phone call by their sales staff. It is only "when questioned, we explain that the trial membership is just that and includes limited usage". That is pretty deeply buried, and since it is not provided up front by the company, it is up to the consumer to discover it by asking. That sounds like full disclosure only when pushed. And what difference would it make to CRA to offer the visits at any of their properties - an overnight RV stay is an overnight RV stay, no matter where. It is not surprising thAt CRA has so many negative reviews on consumer sites. We are going to suggest to the dealership where we bought our RV that they discontinue their affiliation with this "less than full disclosure" company.

Response:

I am not sure that my response was sent or not, so I am sending it again. I am sorry that Ms.[redacted] is not happy with my reply. Again, our trial membership is a limited use membership. We do not, and will not ever, offer a full membership to the public unless they wish to purchase and become dues paying members. It seems odd to me that Ms.[redacted] has an ongoing issue with our invitation. Not ony does our advertising state "trial membership" but the limited use was fully disclosed when she questioned our representative. I don't know what more she wants from us.The dealership she speaks of; where she purchased her RV, is one that we have done business with for over 15 years. Using the same promotion and promotional material I might add. We host hundreds of their customers very year. I have spoken to them of her complaints and they ageee that if she wants to take advantage of the offer of free camping and gifts, she is welcome to do so. If the offer is not for her, she certainly doesn't have to.We welcome legitimate and constructive criticism of our marketing and sales practices. Paying attention to these concerns has allowed us to stay in business for over 30 years and maintain our "A" rating with the Revdex.com.[redacted]Office Manager

Review: I spoke with [redacted] when I booked the reservation. He explained to me that we would receive $200.00 gas reimbursment upon our arrival to the Colorado river adventures along with a free steak dinner, a Samsung tablet, up to 5 night free stay and a $200.00 bonus gift. We were told there was no obligation to purchase anything to get these items, and all we needed to do was attend a 90 minute sales presentation. Which we did. We arrived, 3-13-15 and went to the presentation the next day. We were handed an android tablet instead of a Samsung, the steak dinner was not a steak dinner but a rough dried out piece of meat from the clubhouse handed out on paper plates that was not even eatable. They said they could not give us the $200.00 gas card but instead gave us a certificate that if we saved all our gas receipts for 8 months and filed the certificate within a certain time they would review to see if we are eligible to receive a rebate. If followed to the instructions it is almost impossible to meet the requirements to get the reimbursement for the gas. The $200.00 bonus gift was a pamphlet allowing us special offers to hotels with in certain areas of the U.S. if used properly within the time frame we would be reimbursed for certain expenses. There was no bonus gift but a ploy to get us to purchase more of what we are not interested in. Our stay was so unpleasant that we left a day early. When we came home we called [redacted] who would talk to me and actually hung up on me. I called back several times but no luck. I called again and asked for a manager and spoke with [redacted], I explained everything to him and he said he would call me back in 15 minutes. He never called back so I called him, he refused to take my calls. I spoke with the operator who was very rude and said he was instructed to transfer my call to [redacted] and I had to leave a voicemail. He said it's either the voicemail or that he hangs up on me which did I want. He put me thru to [redacted] voicemail but never let me finish leaving a message. I called back again, and left a written message to [redacted] to call me when he came in. Still no response. I feel I have been lied to tremendously and been given the run around on a bait and switch operation. I am extremely upset that they misrepresented everything and would not back any of it. I would like to get the Samsung table that I was promised and my $200.00 gas reimbursed that I was told we would get once we arrived. As far as the other offers they can have them but we still strongly feel this company is operating on many levels of Misrepresentation.Desired Settlement: We would like our $200.00 gas reimbursement sent to us ASAP as we were promised reimbursement upon our arrival to emerald cove and to give us the Samsung tablet instead of the unknown brand of android tablet they gave us. We will return their android when we receive the money and the samsung tablet.

Business

Response:

To our knowledge (after deep discussion with our marketing staff) Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] were never promised a Samsung tablet. Our confirmation letters only state that they will receive an "android tablet". However because of their confusion and/or misunderstanding we are willing to purchase outside of our inventory and send them a Samsung tablet. As far as the gas rebate is concerned....We fulfill these rebates ourselves, spending well over $200,00.00 per year. If Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] will begin the fulfillment process NOW they will have more than enough time to meet the requirements. We will send the tablet to the address on file and watch for the gas receipts in order to fulfill the rebate.Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this complaint and settle it satisfactorily.Respectfully yours,[redacted]Office Manager

Today on FATHERS DAY! I received a solicitation for something I did not sign up for I said "no thank you reapeatedly then hung up. Not 10 seconds later the guy calls back and starts harassing me about "someone had or I wouldn't be calling, you sure, you sound like you wouldn't remember anyway". Now I raised my voice and said "NO THANK YOU, NO THANK YOU, NO THANK YOU" and hung up. Literally 2.5 seconds later the phone rings again and the same guy is now telling that I did and now he had a BIG attitude, so I hung up. He call yet again, this time I was so med that I said "really mother [redacted], don't call me ever again! I WILL BE REPORTING THIS TO THE BBC IN OUR STAE AS WELL AS YOURS, AND THAT INCLUDES YELP, and TRIP ADVISOR. I suggest you hire some people with some education and not some "bored punk" that probably dropped out of kindergarten! Amazing to believe that a company with you name and reputation would hire such a person to represent them. And in case this goes in the "round bin" it's also going to your coprate office. So keep laughing punk I really hope you either change quick or get fired for being an [redacted] who if you think hard about I in some way pay you when we "used to" use your resorts. Now who's laughing? I expect an apology and a call from at least a GM, this was truly uncalled for and should be in acceptable to you.

Review: In March, 2005, we purchased a C-S PFD membership from Colorado River Adventures, membership #5824, at a cost of $6365. We used the membership for several years and then purchased a second home in Lake Havasu City. Our dues have been continually paid on an annual basis. However, we have only used the membership once in the last six years. Last spring (2015) we met with Pam G[redacted] at the [redacted] We asked about a resale or termination of our membership. Pam told us that our only option was to resell the membership and that the annual dues are never terminated on that membership. We did try to sell our membership on [redacted] with no response. She also told us that we would be turned over to collection if our annual dues are not paid. Therefore, we are asking to be terminated from our contract. We are not asking for any monetary settlement, only to have our contract terminated.Desired Settlement: Termination of contract and annual dues with Colorado River Adventures.

Response:

There is no problem in cancelling this membership and releasing Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] from the obligation. I have taken their complaint as written documentation of their request to do so. The membership has been cancelled and they are released from and and all contractual and financial obligation to Colorado River Adventures. Thank you, Debra C[redacted]Office Manager

Response:

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved. However, we feel that it is very unfortunate that the sales people representing Colorado River Adventures, told us that there is no way to be released from the contract, and we would be turned over for collection if the annual dues are not paid annually for your lifetime.

Just cancel my membership
I wish CRA would make me the same offer. I'm on the east coast now and not able to use their facilities. Cancel my membership and release me from the "dues" obligation. That's not much to ask is it? Keep the thousands I could buy a new car with and just cancel my membership.

Review: In early June I received a solicitation phone call from Colorado River Resorts inviting me to come visit Emerald Cove in Parker, AZ and in exchange for attending a sales presentation I would get two nights fee camping, $200 in gas money, a complimentary dinner for two, and if I called and confirmed my reservation 3 days prior I would get another gift worth $200.

I did get the two free nights of camping. I did not get the diner voucher. The $200 in gas money is the REAL issue - as it turns out you have to get gas at a [redacted] station (which is known for higher gas prices), you have to get 4 separate receipts and each receipt must be dated at least 60 days apart, and all receipts must be turned in within 240 days of the voucher. This is clearly a cumbersome process they put you through so that you will either forget to get the receipts or give up and not follow all of their rules for the gas reimbursement. The gas refund in my opinion was a complete misrepresentation.

Lastly, the $200 bonus gift was a cheap no-name brand tablet that was hardly worth $200.Desired Settlement: Colorado River Adventures (CRA) misrepresents the offers presented by sales people over the phone and failed to deliver promised services or items. Warn other customers! Make CRA spell out the gas rebate process in advance and not mislead customers.

Business

Response:

FIrst I would like to apologize to the customer for any perceived misrepresentation. Since there biggest concern seems to be the Gas Rebate Certificate, I will address that first. We fulfill these rebate certificates ourselves. We do not rely on another company to do so. We fulfill them to the tune of close to $300,000.00 per year; since we use this premium for All of marketing locations. So, it is not a gimmick. If the qualifications are followed the money is sent. I researched the confirmation letter that the customer received and in it it refers to this particular premium as a "fuel cert". I have recommended that from now on we present is as a gas "rebate" and as with all rebates there are steps involved for reimbursement. The dinner for two was supposed to have been given to them at the resort when they checked in. It is a voucher for dinner at our weekend functions or at our campground facility. I apologize that they did not receive it.I do thank the customer for their honest input and as I stated above we have made some changes to our marketing approach. If they wish a new gas certificate and want to follow the steps we will mail out reimbursement of the $200.Sincerely,[redacted]Office Manager

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Since they admit that the marketing states a fuel certificate and not a rebate, I think I should get the $200 certificate instead of having to jump through the hoops that they have established in their rebate program - which by the way are ridiculous, you have to go to the gas pump 4 times, no less than 60 days apart, and each receipt will not be reimbursed if it over $50, then you have to mail it in and wait for the $200 - truly this comes across as a way to make people give up and not go through the hassle of getting the $200 in gas.

Regards,

Business

Response:

Since the customer is still not satisfied I will be issuing a check for the gas rebate reimbursement.

Review: I was mobilized in 2003 and my dues were frozen by cra. I sent orders for 2004 to 2006 and 2012 to 2013 by fax and email and they have turned my account over to a [redacted] and reported on my credit bureaus in the amount of 732 dollars. Please help as I have served my country and are entitled to support back. I have exhausted all means to resolve this. Desired Settlement: Dues frozen for the 2 additional mobilization sand report back to all 3 credit bureaus to remove this from my credit report.

Business

Response:

This membership has two contractual owners, [redacted] and [redacted]. We are aware of Ms. [redacted]'s service to our country and do thank her efforts. However, the membership has always been able to be used either by Ms. [redacted] OR Ms. [redacted]. Just because one person was overseas did not render the membership unusable. The account balance on this membership is $1093.00. Dues are owed for the years of 2012, 2013 and 2014. There are $30 in late fees from 2010. Because there has been ongoing conversations regarding the payment of these dues I am willing to do this. If Ms. [redacted] will pay the $732.00 owed to the collection company, I will write off the 2014 amount owed. I will also waive the collection fees that will be paid by us when the account is returned to an active status. Normally this is added to the member's account. The dues will bill again in 2016.To reiterate, the "active duty" dues freeze is offered when the solitary owner of a membership is deployed out of the states. If there is a secondary owner who can use the membership during the time of deployment there is no reason to freeze the dues. This offer saves Ms. [redacted] approximately $580.00 and I feel that it is a satisfactory solution to the problem.Sincerely,[redacted]CRA Office Manager
