Review: FALSE ADVERTISEMENT

This company advertised their costs as being "1/2 the cost of replacing a deck" in print and on their website. When the estimator gave me the price I was shocked!!!

I have a very small deck (approximately 10'x12') that is barely 3 feet off the ground and was quoted a "discounted" price of $4,660. The price, which is MORE than my brand new deck cost was supposed to include 50% off materials and 50% off labor. Through further conversation with the estimator he revealed that their "base price starts at $3,900". I believe this "base price" should be stated in their advertisement because they are assuming a deck cost of $7,800.

To top it off, they called my house after 9:30 p.m. to verify the 2-hour window for the next day and then they DID NOT show up during that time. Needless to say, they wasted a total of 6 hours of my time when I would never have called had I known that their "base price started at $3,900".Desired Settlement: For them to change their claim of their costs being "1/2 the cost of replacing a deck" in print and on their website.

Response:

The the average cost of Deck Replacement is $10,000 to $25,000 for licensed contractor. Therefore we are 50% less than deck replacement

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this is satisfactory according to the call I got from John ###-###-#### who promise to give a $200.00 reduction and be at my home on Monday, June 16 between the hrs of 9am - 12pm. If that does not happen I would like a complete refund

Review: Deck helmet painted my deck. There are bubbles under the paint, puddles of the paint, bad coverage, and cracks in the paint already. I've tried to get them out to fix it but nothing has happened.Desired Settlement: Come out an fix the bad job that was done or give me a refund and I'll find someone who will fix it.

I am rejecting this response because:

Regards,

They sent out 1 person to sand off the entire deck (approx 600 sq ft) with just a belt sander in 99 degree heat. He removed about half of what needs done and that took 8 hours of work! They need a big floor sander to remove the rest along with cleaning out between the boards where it's just clumped paint.

Review: I paid a deposit to Deck Helmet using a check. However, I did not sign the section of the contract providing authorization to electronically debit my account in the future. Prior to the service being completed, Deck Helmet then debited my checking account for the balance. I called Deck Helmet to refute the charge and then reported this unauthorized charge to my bank. The bank refunded the money to my account, and Deck Helmet agreed that the charge should not have occurred. However, a month later, Deck Helmet submitted another unauthorized charge to my checking account. This occurred 12/20/13 and the money still has not been returned to my account.Desired Settlement: I would like the money returned to my checking account and the business practices investigated.

Dear [redacted],

Review: I contracted Deckhelmet to seal my deck. The salesman came and estimated the work and we came to an agreement. When I went outside the next day, I noticed the boards that were marked for repair were the newest boards on the deck. I noticed that the deck was having structural issues and I called Deckhelmet repeatedly to get an estimate to repair my deck. Finally, the salesman came back out and estimated the repairs at $1800. I took off work that day because of the amount of phone calls and service issues that I had experienced by this point, to oversee the work. The salesman assured me that three beams were rotted underneath the lower deck, which needed to be replaced and concrete raised pylons put in underneath the wrong beams. I signed the contract based on this information. Materials were delivered to my house for the specified repair. The carpenters arrived to repair - reported to me the materials the wrong size (deck boards and posts). They looked at the deck and told me they couldn't fix it. They called the Deckhelmet salesperson and then the manager. The manager came out and told me that they couldn't do the repair for what was estimated and that all together it would be $4K plus materials -we went around and around (he included another rotted post on the upper deck that the salesman missed as well), I told them I want to cancel based on the series of events, that I lack confidence in the company, their ability to honor their estimated, and sending out representatives that do not know what they're estimated, and their terrible customer service. They told me that it would be over $1500 to cancel the contract, that I had to pay for the deck cleaning they already did (they currently have $2333 of my deposit money). I was quoted the same deck and cleaning for $501.80 by [redacted], also a Revdex.com member. I told them I would to pay a comparable price to that quote. I have called, filed complaints on line, left three message for John the manager, filed a complaint with Angie's List, who also received no response from Deckhelment and have placed the company in their "penalty box".Desired Settlement: I want to pay reasonable prices for the work was done - and get the difference back - so about $1831.53. I want the materials, which have been in my driveway for at least a month or two, removed. I have advised Deckhelmet that I will not be liable for the wrong materials that have never been picked up, as promised twice by the company.

Thanks.

I am rejecting this response because: to date I have not received any refund. The company is still charging me over $700 for deck cleaning compared to comparable businesses of $500. I emailed Saul with Deckhelment and informed him I had not received any refund on 8/15. He again has not responded to me.The company has still materials in my driveway and has not picked them up. I will not be held responsible for these materials.

[redacted] was refunded 2 checks

I absolutely love this company and their great customer service. The workers were awesome from start to finish. They were friendly, cheerful, and seemed to enjoy their job. They worked long days to powerwash my deck, buff chemicals into the remaining wood to cure it, replace rotted boards, and paint my deck. They were careful to put up plastic over my siding so that paint would not get on my house. There were several boards after painting where the grain of the wood raised up and would have been a problem for splinters. The company sent a crew out to pull up those boards and repaint the entire deck the next day! The carpentry crew was kind enough to remove some heavy planters and a table off my deck before painting. After the deck cured for 3 days, they came back to my house to put the table back on the deck for me. I am truly amazed by the fabulous customer service this company provides. My deck looks brand new even though it is 25 years old. I am getting so many compliments from family and friends about how beautiful my deck looks once again. I highly recommend this company.
