DocketBird has created a business model which involves collecting public records information and publishing that information on their website, which in turn embarrasses the name and reputation of the individual or business owner. The organization then leverages the information to coerce payment (59.99US) for removal of the information completely from their database and all search engines. Despite formal request to have information removed, DocketBird has failed to respond to my formal requests.

Thanks for reaching out to us about how to request removal of your case from DocketBird. First, we'd like to explain why your case is on DocketBird. All records on DocketBird are public records.Of course, we understand that sometimes people do not want DocketBird to publish court records pertaining to them.We would be happy to help you remove your case. DocketBird is a company that harvests bankruptcy records and places them on search engines under one's name. In order to have the document removed from online public scrutiny, the aggrieved party must pay them to remove this private matter from a search engine or send the attorneys, who manage this company, confidential documents such as a driver's license or passport in lieu of payment. I went bankrupt because I am unemployed but have paid professionals to assist me in locating gainful employment. The bankruptcy record DocketBird posted online will undermine my limited resources and job potential now and in the future. I ask they remove my bankruptcy notice from the search engines as it is causing further angst in what is an already embarrassing and trying moment in our lives. I have wrought no harm against ***. K and T, and I ask the same lenity of them. This notice is a request to remove said document they posted with my name and that of wife on the search engines.

When I had inquired about the opt-out/removal option, they sent me an email on how to go about. The email takes me to a link that ask me to pay $59.99 to expedite the process OR send in this form with a copy of my drivers license. I do not want to do that and with all the fraud that is going on out there, why should I send them a copy of my drivers license? I don't even know who or what this company is. For all I know, it probably is an extortion or scam trying to get my money. IF this is a legit company, my personal information should be removed without me providing personal documentation or money! I am appalled at their business practices. Very unethical!

I have asked them several times to remove my information. They are requesting money or additional private information to remove my information. I never did business with them, and I do not feel comfortable giving them money and my divers license so that they remove my personal information that is effecting me getting a job.

This complaint is a duplicate of the one before; from the same person.

DocketBird publishes millions of court records, making them freely available to the public. Some people (like this complaining individual) don't want their court records available to the public. Contrary to what this person said, we do not "force" anyone to pay to remove their case. In fact, anyone can remove their case for free. In any event, we removed the complainant's case from DocketBird, at no charge. So, this complaint should be resolved.

Customer Response • Jun 18, 2019

I agree that the immediate concern was handled by DocketBird.com, who responded quickly by removing the information from public visibility and access through their website. Responsive comments shared by DocketBird.com concerning “force of payment” deserves more perspective insight to the concern previously shared.

This matter would never have been escalated had it not been for the verbiage disclosed in the opt-out/information removal options published by DocketBird.com, which are attached. Effectively, the published verbiage on removal options does offer a “free” option for removal; however, the commitments documented (per verbiage) indicates only partial removal guarantees with a wait time for processing of 6 – 8 weeks. (screenshots enclosed for reference in handling).

Also mentioned, was a reference to duplication. There were two complaints issued: one with the registrar and one with the domain owner. Both matters are considered closed with the domain owner’s response with removal of the information from public visibility. A third party is monitoring reporting of my personal information to ensure that this does not reoccur over the next six months. Thank you for addressing this matter with amicable resolution.

I've called them every day for three days and all I get is their voice mail. They never returned my calls so I cancelled my subscription. Poor customer service!!! Not impressed.

We reached out to the customer and offered a full refund. So far we have not heard back.

Hi there: your response ended up in spam. If you want to contact me, give me an email address and we can continue the discussion. Thanks

Docketbird.com has fake “legal” information on their site under my name. When I inquired about the opt-out/removal option, they are charging $15 to expedite the process OR send in a form along with a copy of my drivers license, which contains my PII, and I should not have to do when I never opted into their service. My only options are to either pay or provide more personal information to have my information removed...I believe this violates the Privacy Act and my information should be removed without me providing personal documentation with private information. I believe this is an unethical business practice.

DocketBird Response • May 19, 2019

The person complaining about DocketBird is not a customer. DocketBird provides court documents to lawyers, and we also make them available to the public for free. The person complaining probably declared bankruptcy, and doesn't like the fact that DocketBird has millions of bankruptcy cases on its website. We do remove cases for free, but we require people to prove that they are actually parties to the case. There is nothing illegal or unethical about this practice.

Customer Response • May 19, 2019

Why should I be “obligated” to send documentation to a company I truly don’t know why they exist or what they would do with my information. For a business to respond with “they probably don’t like” their information is public validated my concern about their business practice. The state of Maryland makes all records public and there isn’t a bankruptcy listed in my name. I am not sending my identification to a company in the blind to me. I have no idea who I am sending my private information to especially in today’s climate with identity fraud being a huge issue. In addition to, what sense would it make for a random person request for a specific persons profile be removed? I refuse to pay or send in my ID when I have the right for them to remove my personal information from their site.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Now that we know who this person is, we located her bankruptcy record on DocketBird, and removed it at no charge. We hope this resolves her concern.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely

I am a victim of stalking and I request to have my information removed from their website. I contacted the company explaining my situation to Docketbird.com I was then told they can remove it only for a few of 59.99

Unfortunately, this customer was not aware that DocketBird removes cases for free upon request. Here is the help file that describes this process:

https://docketbird-public-documents.helpscoutdocs.com/article/30-how-to-remove-your-case-from-docketbird

We went ahead and addressed this customer's concerns by removing the case, at no charge, from DocketBird.

DocketBird.com is in the business of publishing what appear to be official records from a court. It publishes individual court records, including court cases and bankruptcy court dates and related files.

These records from the actual courts do not show up in Search Engine results. A person has to go into the court itself or possibly online, to view records. However the courts keep these records out of pubic search results.

However, DocketBird has jumped on the bandwagon of similar sites, but this is really bad. I emailed them asking them to remove a link with my full name and court information about a bankruptcy. They told me to go to a link and request the removal. But what they didn't tell me in the email was that this "link" states that they will remove the info "immediately" as long as I pay them $79.

That's the going rate I guess, for begging some stranger to keep your name / case info out of searches done on your name. This seems to me to be very wrong and such sites should be shut down.

MyLife and Ripoff Report have managed to get away with this extortion for years, so I guess the "Yale attorney" who started DocketBird decided to jump on to the extortion bandwagon, making money off people who are in the midst of bankruptcy, and many other cases, and causing them distress.

DocketBird is doing a "great" job getting business from people for all the wrong reasons. They should be shut down.

DocketBird is part of Mink LLC in Vancouver, Washington. Founders are Todd K and Darek T. Their website makes it sound like they are gigantically successful. Is so then I wonder why they charge $79 to have a web result removed?

A decent website would not charge anything. But a truly ethical website owner simply would not have these results showing up on public search engine results. These founders Todd K and Darek T want to make themselves look good; at the same time, they extort everyone else.
