My 81yrs old mother suffering from dementia resides at Brookdale of Southfield and I am her 24/CaregiverOver the course of the six months that she's resided here, we've had problems with therapists and staff arbitrarily showing up at will rather than confirming appointments or calling, which causes great confusion with dementia patients, meals have been ordered but never delivered, some meals delivered where incomplete with staff saying they will return with missing items but they never return, meals have to be picked up by family members or Respite Caregiver due to no delivery occurring, mail delivered to front desk address properly and including the Licaregiver's name however being returned to sender, request received from resident management to remove mother from the apartment for at least 4hrs but giving no explanation other than saying 'it's confidential', inconsistency with housekeeping staff and schedules, maintenance orders placed and not fulfilledWhen my mother moved into the unit in 12/2016, a report was made to maintenance about the inoperative heating/cooling control in her room and maintenance said they would be back to repair it, but it was never repairedSince mother sleeps better in cool temperatures, during the winter months the issue was not pressedWhen the winter season was over and mother's room was too warm, another request was made May for repair of the temperature controlBy June 12, repair had not occurred and another request was made followed by a fan being placed in mother's roomBy June 15th repair had not been made and another request was madeBy June 19th repair had not been madeThe Respite Caregiver contacted maintenance times on June 19th and was told by the Maintenance supervisor that a motor would have to be ordered, and he would call when the part came in for repairOn June 20th, I left mother's apartment for an hour to go to the doctors office around the corner while she was sleepingUpon returning I found the apartment door unlocked, the unit easily accessible, mother still in bed, the air conditioning on and working in her room and mother confused because she could not tell me who entered the apartment, who was in her room working while she was in bed, and most disturbing, maintenance DID NOT CALL to inform me that the ordered part was received and repair would be made todaySeeing that my family pays over $monthly for her to reside in the community, we expect services indicative of the money that is being paidManagement does not take an active interest in making sure that residents are respected in their homes as they feel justified in entering a home at will when emergencies do not exist, and overall it appears that the company is more interest in generating revenue from the elderly and their families rather than providing the exceptional service that they speak of providing

My husband has been in Brookdale Cordova Tn for almost years We are very pleased with his overall care Meals are good and when he recently needed OT and PT following hospitalization he made great progress with services in house I would recommend this facility

On April 12, a portion of the closet shelving fell on my mother's head Staff did not call an ambulance for her nor did they contact me I am on her emergency call list I took my mother to Sarasota Memorial Hospital the following morning on April 13th at a.mto the Emergency Room She was diagnosed with a concussion as well as contusions on her head and shoulders and trunk of her body Staff refused to give my mother a report of the incident The plastic coated metal shelf was found to be missing bolts and screws as wellThe shelf was heavy and held stored personal belongings For staff to refuse to contact an ambulance upon being notified by my mother

My Uncle was at Brookdale for about monthsIn that time he lost weight and was not taken care ofThe facility (his floor) smelled of urine several times I would visit himThe final problem was that he fell twice in the same week, with a hour aid attending himWe were paying over $21,000/month for his care and aid, and he still fellHe hit his head so hard that he had to be taken to the emergency room for staplesI removed him from that facility immediately, but he never recoveredHe died weeks after his fall

Back in approximately April I met up with the Executive Director (Greg ***) and Head nurse (Kuldip ***) of Brookdale in Elk GroveI requested to have my mom reinstated to a person assistI was informed that neither the Executive Director or the head nurse were qualified to make the determination to return her back to a person assist and that I would have to bring in a licensed physical therapist from a home health agency to perform the evaluationThese conditions were met and after the therapist completed the evaluation stating she is a person assist Brookdale still refused to reinstate her back her former statusI have also emailed the Executive director several times to inform him that they are short staffed on a weekly basisI am often told by the staff that they are constantly short staffed leading to wait times up to 1/hours to take mom to the bathroom which can cause infections and health concernsWhy am I being charged for a service that they cannot perf

I have spoke repeatedly to the local office (Paso Robles - Creston Rd) regarding obtaining the refund since that time I have called the billing office as wellI have been told twice that the check would arrive "by the end of the week or Monday at the latest"
