H & R Block Inc., U.S. Headquarters Reviews (1579)

Dear Revdex.com,In response to this complaint, we regret any confusion or misunderstanding that Ms. [redacted] may have as it relates to this matter. However our records show that Ms. [redacted] did not purchase H&R Block’s Peace of Mind® Extended Service Plan and therefore the Warranty does...

not apply in this case. H&R Block prepares millions of tax returns each year, and if we do make an error, we are committed to making the situation right.  It is our belief that we have done so in Ms. [redacted] case by reimbursing interest and penalties that was assessed for both State and Federal 2010 tax returns. Our records reflect that Ms. [redacted] has received a total of three checks. Tax preparation fees were paid on 1/27/2010. Penalties and Interest assessed on the Federal return was paid on 1/27/2010. Interest assessed on the [redacted] State return was paid on 12/12/12. Records show that on several different occasions we requested the original tax notice from Ms. [redacted] in which she failed to provide. The claim was eventually closed until the requested documents and/or information was received. The alternative to not having the document was that we contact the Baltimore [redacted] Controller’s Office directly on Ms. [redacted] behalf to verify the assessed amount. It was then we were able to obtain the correct amount of interest only that was due from the tax payer’s original tax notice as there had been no penalties assessed at that time. Please be advised that penalty and interest is paid from the initial date of discovery. It is our belief that Ms. [redacted] has been made whole in this case and that there is no further due diligence on our part. As such, we consider this matter resolved. We assure you that we take the concerns of our clients seriously and make every effort to resolve matters thoroughly and fairly. We respectfully ask the Revdex.com to close this case. However, if you should need anything further or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, [redacted] Associate Business AnalystH&R Block

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that although this resolution is NOT satisfactory to me, I don't feel anything else will be done about it. Even after Ms. [redacted] called me concerning the complaint she informed me that she was only repeating what they were told in training.  She admitted she gave incorrect/misleading info to me and that they have corrected the info that they are giving people going forward.  Although she did say they don't have the certain criteria for approval, they were told it was NO CREDIT CHECK!  For HR Block to give me $100 in "[redacted] faith" means nothing, they should have given me all my money back or at least half for falsifying  information, misleading customers and just out right lying. I am accepting the response because I am over it but I will NEVER use HR Block for anything and I will inform as many people as I can to BEWARE because HR Block is a SCAM out to get your money!
Regards,

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I was reading through the documents prepared by H&R Block that I signed with my taxes this year. I did find the contract associated with my issue at hand. I did sign a contract stating that if H&R Block couldn't do the job correctly I would still owe them. I will pay the debt in due time because I'm tired of fighting with a company that doesn't care about anything but profit. I have been fighting to come to some sort of agreement as to why the service I acquired was so bad and never did get a good answer as to why. I will not continue to do business with H&R Block and I will discourage everyone I can reach from doing the same. The customer service with this company is beyond awful. The fact that still to this day I have not been in contact in any fashion with a manager from this company is disgusting. That is not from my lack of trying. H&R Block has no employee directory to locate a manager and their contracted call center is unable to locate managers from H&R Block. I'm appalled that a company that has access to so much personal information from their customers treat them this way.  You will find my reviews similar to what I've said here.

Dear Revdex.com,In response to this matter, our research shows that Mr. [redacted] used an H&R Block digital product to complete his return on his own. We show that the client manually entered his account number incorrectly leaving off a "0" as well as a "7" when entering his direct...

deposit information into the program. When the direct deposit was not able to be completed, our bank issued a paper check and mailed it to the address listed on the client's tax return. Mr. [redacted] has in formed H&R Block that the address on his return is no longer valid. At this time our banking department has received the required form completed by Mr. [redacted] to have the direct deposit resent to the correct account once the check issued expires (which is 90 days or approximately June 10th).As a courtesy for the delay in receiving his refund we have issued Mr. [redacted] a refund of the product fees and a check has been mailed for this to the updated address that Mr. [redacted] has provided. As a result, we consider this matter resolved. We assure you that we take concerns of our clients seriously and make every effort to resolve matter thoroughly and fairly. We respectfully request the Revdex.com to close this case. However, if you should need anything further or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.Sincerely, [redacted]Associate Business AnalystH&R Block

I am rejecting this response because: I would like to know why the conmunication was SO poor. Even in the emails, the reps clearly didn't know the status of the account and continuously blamed me for missing appointments even though that did not happen and I had email proof that it was H&R Block that clearly did not keep their appointments with me. Also, you keep saying information was sent to me that was actually not, as per emails from H&R Block! Also, even your explainationwas not accurate. The 1099 income was NOT missed by the rep it was filed incorrectly, by no fault of mine, as I clearly provided the info. Please explain why there was either no communication (multiple unanswered emails and phone calls). I need to know all information because the complaint is pending IRS review of the amended taxes. I need to be sure that if I get even more letters from the IRS, I can answer them because when the IRS sent the last TWO letters, no one from H&R Block answered me or the IRS.

We were told not to pay back the remaining 2014 tax preparation fees because they would be reimbursed anyways.  This was told to my husband and I by the Ladysmith, WI manager over a year ago.  Now we are only getting reimbursed for the 2015 taxes and none of the preparation fees which were promised for the 2014 & 2015 taxes which were included in the Peace of Mind contract that was signed for.  Do to aggravation and going through over 7 different representatives & managers I’m not going through any more stress.  Please don’t go through this company they go against legal contracts and promises.
I’ve Definitely Learned Who Not To Go To!

Dear Revdex.com,H&R Block prepares millions of tax returns each year, and if we do make an error, we are committed to making the situation right.  It is our belief that we have done so in this case by amending Mrs. [redacted]’s 2013 tax return to reflect the appropriate...

information, reimbursed all interest and penalties assessed, pursuant to our H&R Block Guarantee which is complimentary with every return we prepare. In an effort to further make amends, and as a gesture of good faith for any inconvenience, we refunded the full tax preparation fees that Mrs. [redacted] paid.If a mistake is made on a tax return, the mistake does not “cause” additional taxes to be owed to a tax authority.  This amount is owed regardless of whether the tax liability was correctly calculated or not and it cannot properly be claimed as “damages.”  Nor can it be said that H&R Block “caused” the taxes to be owed.  Rather, such determination is a function of tax law and not of anything done, or caused, by H&R Block. In Mrs. [redacted]’s situation, with her originally filed tax return, she received a larger refund than she was entitled to receive.  The amended return reflects the excess amount that was received but must returned to the IRS. Under our Peace of Mind® Extended Service Plan, clients are reimbursed a limited amount of their tax underpayment owed to a tax authority, if we make a mistake on a tax return, subject to certain other terms and conditions.  Because Mrs. [redacted] did not elect this added level of protection, she is entitled to reimbursement of interest and penalties, but H&R Block is not liable for any additional taxes assessed to our client by the IRS or other tax authority. We sincerely regret Mrs. [redacted]’s experience and trust this response will allow your office to close your file. However, should you have additional questions or desire to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, [redacted] Associate Business Analyst H&R Block

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
When Ms. [redacted] called me (on Wednesday, January 13th) and requested I bring in the other clients paperwork, she basically gave me a timeline to bring it in - thursday, the 14th or friday, the 15th.  I was prompt in bringing in the paperwork, the 13th (which was the 2nd trip to [redacted] that day).  Again, I am paying the price for H & R's mistake.  Regardless, of whether the paperwork contained "sensitive data" is irrelevant.  So what if it did - would it change anything? It should but if you ask H & R Block - obviously not! When I brought in the paperwork to the office an hour after receiving the call from Ms. [redacted] I was not greeted or introduced to the lady who helped me.  It wasn't until after she looked through my tax return to retrieve the other clients paperwork that I asked if Ms. [redacted] was available.  Without hesitation and with obvious annoyance, she stated she was Ms. [redacted].  The treatment I have received after filing the complaint has been less than pleasant.  Ms. [redacted] stated that she has apologized for this incident many times.  Apologies mean nothing when your attitude towards the person you're apologizing to is so transparent - in that Ms. [redacted] was not sympathetic and was obviously annoyed that I have been wasting her time.  Ms. [redacted] stated that H&R Block should be paid for the services they provided as I received my tax return.  I DID receive my return but only after I paid my [redacted] taxes - over $200, just to have them turn around and state that actually I was supposed to get a refund of $8 from the State of [redacted].  Therefore, I had to wait several more weeks for a paper check and have my money refunded.According to H & R's website - they state this:"Satisfaction Guarantee: We guarantee 100% Satisfaction on our tax prep services at Block – you only pay us if you accept your return."I'm not satisfied in the least but accepted my return prior to this incident as I didn't think it would take 9 months for H & R to realize that they hadn't received payment.  Since this incident occurred after I accepted my return, where is the guarantee now?

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: As I Stated H&R Block offers no type of help to its costumers. I will never set foot on any property that a H&R block office is located. I have already taken over 30 costumers away from H&R block. So in that sence I got my money back plus some. and I will continue to take away from H&R Block even if I have to pay to have someone else's is done. H&R Block only worries about ripping people off with false advertisement. So I will continue to legally take costumers and money away from H&R Block. The number of complaints on there face book page says the same thing I do.

I am rejecting this response because:I was told by one of their workers not to worry about any penalties because they would cover them if it went past the due dates. I feel this is very wrong because if an employee tells your clients not to worry about the extra penalties. I just received a call yesterday telling me the original worker was still investagating the issue. this is just plain wrong, I did not make the mistake on my taxes, your employees did, and yet I am penalized becuase they did not do their job correctly, that is just BAD BUSINESS. If I had been told to pay the amount immediately from your employee, I would have done so to avoid the extra late fee because I was not gotten back to by your staff member in a timely manner. This is not fair to me because I was doing what I was told to do by your employee. I feel that this is injustice to me. I have been a client for over 20 plus years. This is just wrong. You make a mistake and tell me not to worry about it and now I am out money because of your lack of business ethic.
