never subscribed
Just got billed for a subscription from Hearst Magazines. Never heard of them or knew what it was. Had to goggle it to find it here. Emailed asking for a refund. Can't afford 70$ out of my account right now, especially for something I didn't order. Seems like a scam to be. Wouldn't go near this company.

UK TOWN&COUNTRY
Hearst Publications is the Worst company out there. They canceled my subscription of UK Town&Country. On June 21 I received a letter telling me I would receive a check with the remaining balance. Emailed them 6 different times. SIX times for the remaining balance of MY MONEY. Got the exact same generic response from all 6 emails. This has been the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!

I was emailed a promotion to enter a sweepstakes to received tickets to Fixer Upper's Silobration. I filled out the form for the sweepstakes and upon submitting was told that I just subscribed to Country Living Magazine! Nowhere, small print or otherwise, does it state that by entering, one will be subscribed this is clearly a scam and needs to stop. I had the same thing happen with their Veranda Magazine for other sweepstakes. Sadly, that was many months ago and I had forgotten how shady this company is! I have screenshots to show that there was no mention of subscription. Further, they ask you to wait a week before contacting them for canceling. I'm certain they do this with hopes that a consumer will forget to do so.

Review: I am a subscriber of serveral Hearst magazines (Car and Driver, Popular Mechanics). When I signed up for my subscriptions, I paid online. Part of paying online required me to provide an e-mail address. I provided the address "[redacted]." Gmail allows you to provide a tag after a "+" sign for filtering or reference. In this case, added the "+CD" to my e-mail to signify that it was provided to "Car and driver" magainze. A little while after I provided my e-mail, I began receiving unsolicited daily (sometimes multiple times a day) e-mails from Car and Driver ([redacted], about various offers. I clicked on their automated unsubscribe link, and was given an error message that said that the unsubscribe link is invalid. I've figured out that the "+CD" in my e-mail is not recognized by their unsubscribe program, but they can send me e-mails just fine. So basically, I was unable to unsubscribe from their mailing list via their automated tool. I subsequently sent an e-mail on April [redacted] to their customer service department as found on their privacy policy in the e-mails. That e-mail was returned as undeliverable. I continued deleting these e-mails for several months. On September [redacted], I again tried to contact Hearst. This time I obtained a message off of their corporate website. My request was simple: Please remove me from all of your mailing lists. I do not wish to be contacted via e-mail. I received a response on September [redacted] from a [redacted] who indicated that my e-mail had been removed from all of their mailing lists. I gave this several days to take effect, but on September [redacted], was still receiving messages. I e-mailed [redacted] again indicating that I was still receiving messages. [redacted] promptly responded and said that she had done all she could on her end and that she had forwarded my issue to her operations manager and he would resolve the issue. That was 10 days ago. To date, I have received no contact from the Operations Manager, nor have the e-mails stopped.Desired Settlement: My one and only request is for Hearst Magazines to PLEASE stop e-mailing me. I have never requested, nor do I wish to receive, e-mail solicitations from Hearst Magazines. I have attempted,on multiple occasions,to request removal from your e-mails. Your system for removal has failed, and your customer service contacts have not followed through on my request. Please remove the e-mail address "[redacted]" and/or "[redacted]" from any and all mailing lists operated by Hearst Magazines. Please ensure that this is done in a manner that completely removes me as previous attempts to do this seem to have "failed." That is my one and only desired outcome. Considering how easily I was added to this list, unsubscribing really should NOT be as difficult as you have made it.

Review: I keep receiving notices for subscription services that I did not subscribe to. I do not know why I am receiving them and do not want the subscription. The statements say that I ordered this magazine and I did not.Desired Settlement: The desired outcome is for Good Housekeeping to keep their magazines and their subscription notices. Stop sending me notices for services that were not requested.

Review: I did not wish to renew my subscription with this magazine. I informed them of that by writing on the bill that I did not wish to renew, and asked them to stop sending renewal notices. I also went onto thier web-site and notified them there that I did not want to renew and requested that they stop sending subscription notices. With other magazines I have ordered, when the subscription ended, I have been repeatedly bothered with renewal demands. I have been bothered by Good Housekeeping since at least November of last year. It is a sneakily aggressive sales tactic - one that is primarily aimed at the older consumer, who is used to the old way of doing business,i.e., once your subsciption ended, if you did not wish to renew, all you had to do was to let it run out.Desired Settlement: My request is simple - I want them to stop contacting me, please take me off thier mailing list.

Review: My wife went online to cancel her subscription to "O, The oprah Magazine" 3 or 4 weeks in advance of the renewal date. We were surprised to continue to receive the magazine and annoyed to get an invoice in the mail. I wrote a note on the invoice that the subscription was cancelled, we would not be paying the invoice, and that they should stop sending magazines. I have received 2 more invoices since and I continue to write the same note. It's not that $18 is a lot, but when a consumer cancels within the terms using the means the company has set up - that should be enough. Since we stopped the subsription we are not paying the invoice, we don't want the magazines, and do not want the effecting our credit score.Desired Settlement: Close our account with $0 balance due and no impact on our credit score. Stop sending the magazine.

Review: I previously subscribed to Redbook Magazine, & I thought my bill was paid . I then asked them to cancel my subscription many times . In October of 2014, I received a notice from Redbook indicating that I requested to be 'billed later', & that my account was past due . On October **, 2014, I sent them a money order, and advised I thought I was already paid up, but sent the money order to 'settle the amount due' . I advised them NOT TO REINSTATE my subscription, as I no longer read Redbook Magazine . On 11/**/14, I received 2 Redbook Magazines .... An issue dated NOVEMBER 2014 & an issue dated DECEMBER 2014 / JANUARY 2015.I assume this means I'll be getting a bill somewhere down the road again, WHICH I WILL NOT PAY . I don't want the magazine any longer . Do they understand 'CANCEL', and ' DO NOT REINSTATE' ???

Review: In 2012 I paid $36.00 for a 3-year subscription to [redacted]. A few months ago I received a bill for $15.00 for a new subscription to [redacted]. I forwarded a letter to the company advising them that I already subscribe to the magazine and that my current subscription does not expire until April, 2015. Soon after, I received another bill for $15.00 and subsequently, I sent another letter (my second request) stating that I had a current subscription to the magazine and that I did not wish to renew when the subscription expires in April, 2015. I also received a letter stating that if I did not pay the $15.00 my subscription would be cancelled.

As of this date (1/*/15) I have not received my January, 2015 issue which I should have received by the middle of December, 2014. I also did not receive the October, 2014 issue.

It appears they have stopped sending me issues which I have already paid for. I should be receiving all issues (including the October, 2014 and January, 2015) through and including the April, 2015 issue.

I don't understand how the company can stop sending me something I have already paid for.Desired Settlement: I wish to receive the issues of [redacted] that I have already paid for. I also request that no further bills be sent to me requesting $15.00 payment for a subscription (or renewal) that I did not request.

Review: I had a gift subscription to Redbook. After expiry, the company sent me letters wanting me to renew the subscription. Now they are sending me threatening letters of collection, along with an invoice to pay a renewal and receive a $3 discount. This is unethical and illegal. It is also illegal and fraud to use the postal service to do this and is in violation of US Postal Service Code.Desired Settlement: I need this account to be closed with $0 balance.

I do not ever want this business to contact me again.

I also want whatever information they have on me to be removed from their systems.

I do not want any more threatening fake invoices.

I got an envelope in the mail, with a window showing the words "Credit Adjustment...-$34.11 Re:My Name". The credit adjustment turned out to be how much I would save. Not illegal, but certainly misleading and NOT appreciated!

Review: I bought one Oprah Magazine Dec 2012 at the grocery. The reason I purchased it was because I thought there would be a contest for something free during Christmas or coupons. The offer inside I thought said that I was entering a contest. It was the Holiday issue and Oprah had many gift items in the magazine. The magazine from the grocery store is the only magazine I have had from Oprah Magazine. I never received any magazines in the mail. I never wanted to order the subscription. I don't pay for any magazines. As a rule I have my al mater magazines, my church magazines and magazines like Victoria Secret, and Cachet. All of the magazines are free and total about 10. My church magazines are 4 separate magazines. I don't need to purchase a magazine. I have an online subscription to One Kings Lane (furniture and design). After I realized I had been duped I wanted to check and see if it was an offer to subscribe that I could simply cancel. When I called I was told it was too late to cancel. Which was unfair because I was sent a bill for magazines I never received so it is a bill for product not rendered. A promise that I should be able to reject. there was no fine print saying I had a number of days to call and cancel. I didn't want the subscription I called in early 2013 and never was helped to cancel and close this account. I didn't receive a magazine only a bill. I kept the Dec 2012 issue until recently. Clearly off my nightstand. That was the only Oprah magazin in my house and I bought that at the grocery. This was total bait and switch activity. Even when I called it wasn't canceled and I had never received anything.Desired Settlement: Clear the amount due to $0.00 and close the account with my name, address and email deleted from the records. After two years I just checked and it is there. Showing I owe 19.08.

Even the letter with the invoice at the bottom doesn't have a date. It said my first issue should be arriving. I called when I received this letter and was told I couldn't cancel. Please have this canceled. A person should be able to say no this is not what I thought. Thank you for your help.

They must be desperate to keep the subscription list up so you can't cancel.

Review: My concern is my credit rating as well as what I feel deceit on the part of Oprah Magazine in order for them to continue to make money, which in my opinion, is the definition of fraud. I had subscribed to O, The Oprah Magazine for a couple of years. I decided I no longer wished to receive the magazine so whenever I received mailings from them regarding renewal, I made a specific, conscious decision NOT to renew. In spite of this, I have continued to receive letter after letter and bill after bill after bill. I assumed the bills would stop coming when I did not pay them since I NEVER RENEWED in the first place. A recent letter stated they were "authorized" to renew the magazine. Since I never sent a letter, a postcard nor used the internet indicating I wished to renew, I would like to know WHO authorized this since it wasn't me and I live alone. A magazine company of all things, has no right to make a purchase in my name without my consent or knowledge and then claim they were "AUTHORIZED". At this point I feel harassed with this. I was tempted to pay just to make it stop and since I felt the letters were threatening, making me worried that my credit would be damaged however; I worry that Oprah Magazine may be using this same type of tactic with many, many other people. Account_Number: [redacted]Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation) 1) Communication indicating that they will no longer send this magazine.2) Removal of my name from any Oprah Magazine mailing list, particularly those related to renewal.3) An apology for fraud - their decision to renew this magazine in my name without my express consent, as well as the harassment they have given me in the form of bills and letters.

Response:

This Office represents The Hearst Corporation and your e-mail of June **, 2013 concerning the subscription of [redacted] to O, The Oprah Magazine, which is published by Hearst Magazines, has been referred to me for reply. Please be advised that the original order was received in 2009 via the internet with the Continuous Service Program. The program is designed to eliminate the process of customers having to either mail in order cards or call us to renew. It also ensures that customers receive magazines without interruption. This entails notifying subscribers in advance that the subscription will be automatically renewed.

Subsequently, [redacted] was sent a series of billing notices. There is no obligation to continue in this program and subscribers’ account information can be removed once we are instructed to do so. We have cancelled the auto renewal order and removed her name and address from all our promotional mailing lists. Her credit rating will not be affected. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Review: I entered a contest for Oprah magazine by entering a code found in the magazine. One the sweepstake page, I was asked to put in my address for a free trial issue of the magazine. I specifically clicked the "check to see if I am a winner without subscribing" box and was sent to a different page. Minutes later, after checking the sweepstake code, I got an email confirming a subscription I didn't ask for from Oprah Magazine. Hours later, I received an emailed bill for the magazine. I went to the Hearst website to cancel and was only able to cancel magazines from being sent but was told I'd still be billed. I am not given a phone number to call to speak to someone about this scam. I am highly upset and feel victimized.Desired Settlement: I want in writing from Hearst, a letter stating they will not bill me for the Oprah subscription that they are fraudulently trying to charge me for.
