Review: HIKO Energy claimed that I was going to get 10% discount, if they would deliver gas & electric instead they charged $98.00 more for gas and $44.00 for electric in one month compared to what PSE&G was going to charge, I tried to call HIKO energy but I never got a response..Desired Settlement: I would like to get this problem resolved, and get back what I was over charged..

At this time, I have not been contacted by Hiko Energy LLC regarding complaint ID [redacted].

Sincerely,

Review: A door to door rep came to my door and tried convincing me to switch to this electric supplier. I told him multiple times I was not interested so finally he said that was fine and asked if I could sign a paper that simply stated that he had spoke to me so they could verify he was doing his job. After he asked to use my phone so he could call his company and so I could acknowledge that he did not enter my apartment, I refused so he took out his phone and called. Unknowingly, he had signed me up for his company. I only found out when my electric bill was more than double what it usually is and called my supplier for the reasoning. When I actually called HIKO Energy the customer service rep was extremely rude and unhelpful. She refused to give me her name or let me speak to a supervisor or someone in a higher position who may help me. I'm stuck with a 400 dollar bill while the door to door rep gets his commission. I can't imagine how many other clueless people they might have done this too as well.Desired Settlement: I simply want my bill adjusted to what I'd normally pay with my supplier instead of their outrageous charges.

Sincerely,

Review: I was Informed by [redacted] today 8/**/2014 that Hiko Energy was an energy supplier on my acct however I never authorized and additional energy supplier to be added to what I have currently and they were charging me more money then [redacted], I looked on the website and saw that many customers have had problems with this company, I feel as if though some sort reinbursment should be taken care of or something should be done, I never not once authorized this service not only that the women could not even explain to me how the service was authorized to be on my acct. I am very upset with this company and something needs to be done ASAPDesired Settlement: I WOULD LIKE SOME SORT OF REFUND FOR WHAT THEY WERE CHARGING ME AND I WANT THE SERVICE DISCOUNTIUNED ASAP!!!

In regards to the complaint filed by [redacted], please see our position below.

I spoke with this customer earlier today in regards to their account with HIKO and this Revdex.com complaint. The customers account has been canceled without penalty and the customer will be receiving a refund for one month of supply charges as part of our current promotion.

If you have any other questions or concerns please contact HIKO customer service at ###-###-####.

Review: Hiko Energy had advise me that they were very competitive with there pricing and that I would be paying less than my service provider at that time (NYSEG). I have been with hike since Dec I just recd Julys billing and I was charged ( 0.170933$) per KWH. For the record NYSEG was 5 cents. Normally I never payed more than 00.9 $ per Kw with NYSEG. This company lead me to believe they would be cheaper than NYSEG with pricing all the time and the price gouging this company does is outright spurious.Desired Settlement: Adjust my bill to reflect what they told me they would be less than NYSEG .

Response:

This customer already contacted HIKO and requested a refund on August **. Per his request, a rate comparison was done and the customer was sent a refund of $257.16. I contacted the customer and he was satisfied with this resolution and with the amount of the refund.

Customer was requesting an additional refund. Out of courtesy, HIKO has agreed to reimburse customer for any rate differences. Customer is satisfied. Customer is no longer with HIKO Energy.

Sincerely,

Review: I switched from [redacted] to Hiko with a guarantee on cheaper prices for the first 6 months. My first bill from Hiko was more than DOUBLE my previous supplier. All attempts to contact them has been met by a voice mail. Endless voice mail prompts and when you leave a voice mail NO ONE ever calls you back. I just received my latest bill and it was $364.14!!!! This is INSANE! With my previous supplier I used the electricity a lot more due to the extreme cold this past winter and my bill was hovering at $180. I have not been using any heat/excessive electricity the past months to see if there will be a difference on my bill and there sure was... ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS MORE!! This is completely unacceptable. I feel completely taken advantage of and lied to by Hiko. Their representative who signed me up promised lower rates and guaranteed lower prices the first 6 months which was a COMPLETE LIE! Long story short - my monthly bill went from $180 to $360 with LESS USAGE.Desired Settlement: I want a refund for my current bill of $364.14 and cancellation of my account. I've tried calling numerous times to no avail.

Business

Response:

This customer sent a rebuttal to our resolution, however we do not feel that we are required to do anything further to satisfy this customer. We have tried to explain the terms of the enrollment. We explained that our terms and conditions which indicate that our variable rate is based on the market, cost, and other determining factors.

This variable rate fluctuates with the market. We do try to keep our rates as competitive as possible, however this is still a variable rate. We sent this customer a one-time courtesy refund. We feel that we have been compliant and at this point there is nothing further that we can offer this customer.

Review: In December 2013, I signed an agreement to have HIKO Energy LLC (HIKO) supply electric and gas commodites to my residence. Billing commenced in January 2014. Under HIKO terms and conditions, HIKO agreed to provide 6 months of electric and gas commodity at rates guaranteed to be 1 – 7% lower than the utilities standard offer service (SOS) rate. A review of the rates charged for January – April 2014 indicates the rates were substantially higher than [redacted] ([redacted]’s rates, as indicated from the following links:

Electrical [redacted] I estimated the difference in invoices I received and those I would receive had I not switched electric and gas commodity supplier. Note: this does not include additional savings realized by the 1 – 7% guaranteed reduction in the rates as stated in HIKO’s terms and condition.

For electricity, HIKO overcharged me $37.59 than what I would pay with the SOS rate

For gas, HIKO overcharged me $141.92 than what I would pay with the SOS rate

I sent a certified letter to HIKO with these calcuations, a copy of the HIKO terms and conditions, and copies of my Jan - April 2014 utility bills. I switched commodity supply service from HIKO in April 2014 and this switch is pending.

In my opinion, HIKO is engaging in deceptive and perhaps unlawful business practices. Many consumers are unlikely to catch these discrepanciesDesired Settlement: In my certified letter to HIKO, I requested a refund of $179.51. If HIKO fails to respond, I will file with the Maryland local public service commission.

Business

Response:

In regard to the complaint filed by [redacted], please see our position below.

The customer was enrolled in HIKO’s monthly variable rate. HIKO has stayed as competitive as possible, however due to the harsh winter; the cost has increased, causing our rates to increase. As stated in our Terms and Conditions, our variable rate is determined by the cost, market, supply and demand, and other determining factors.

Because of this recent rate increase, HIKO has been experiencing extremely high call volume. Because customers were having difficulty reaching our Customer Service Department, we expanded our CSD over the past few weeks. We have representatives working around the clock to respond to all customer calls, messages, and inquiries.

After further investigation HIKO has determined the customer will receive a one-time courtesy refund.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact HIKO at ###-###-####.

Response:

RE: complaint ID [redacted]

I reviewed Hiko's response, and accept their refund, but note that this business is engaging in deceptive business practices in Baltimore. During the first 6 months of the contract, Hiko guarantees rates below the utilities' standard offer. This is clearly stated in their contract, which is attached to this complaint. I will be reporting this to the Maryland PSC. If this company cannot maintain a profitable business in this market, they have no right to engage in misleading "bait and switch tactics.

Review: A few months ago a girl came to my household when I wasn't home, and spoke to my mother.

My mother doesn't speak the English language well. The girl claimed to be from [redacted] and said she wanted to see the bill. My mother, out of nervousness, retrieved the bill and handed it to her. Then the girl snatched the bill out of my mom's hands and said she was going to sign me up for a cheaper service and pulled out her iPhone to call someone. Then she began reading the [redacted] account number out loud, to which my mother quickly grabbed the bill to stop her. My mother explained that we did not need a new energy service and that we were satisfied with [redacted].

That was over seven months ago. Ever since then I have tried to come into contact with them via e-mail and by phone to disconnect service. Each time I receive no response or phone call. Now, 7 months later, I received a Billing Summary in which they claim to have "certain supply charges" that my local utility company "did not bill me for". I have all documentation ever since the beginning of the "service" they CLAIM to supply.Desired Settlement: I demand to owe NOTHING. I demand that they cease and desist all efforts to contact me as THEY OFFER ME NO SUCH SERVICE WHATSOEVER. I have been a customer of [redacted] since August of 2009 and remain still. I have the bills to prove it. I do not, nor did I ever, want this company as my utility provider as they did made me so FRAUDULENTLY!

Review: there representative who baited me to switch my utilitiy told me my bill was always going to be lower then the co I have now pse&g and from jan 2014 to march 2014 my bill is over 300.00 more .this is false advertisement ,I try calling them and writing them but no help was given. I have never gotten any bills this high in my life until now with this companyDesired Settlement: credit for over charging for the 3 months ,jan. tru march 2014

Business

Response:

Good Afternoon,

This customer enrolled with HIKO’s monthly variable rate plan with two of HIKO’s incentives – six months of guaranteed savings and one free month of energy supply after 12 months of service. We evaluated his billing history and found that each month, for six months, we were lower than his utility's price to compare. This current bill is customer’s ninth bill. As stated in customer’s contract, after six months of guaranteed savings, the rate will automatically roll over to a regular variable rate with no guaranteed savings.

Therefore, customer is fully responsible for the full payment of this bill and no rate adjustments will be done.

The customers electricity supply account has been cancelled with us as of 03/**/14 and his natural gas account will be cancelled as of 05/[redacted]/14 without any penalty.

A copy of this resolution has been sent to this customer.

Thank you

Review: A HIKO representative showed up at my house one night and was soliciting to be our energy supplier. They promised a fixed rate until December 2015. We received the low rate the first month, and the next month it tripled. Now this month it is even higher, so now my electric bill is almost $600. I have contacted HIKO repeatedly and they have been extremely rude and unhelpful. I have requested they stop their service immediately and I am still receiving charges on my BGE bill. I do not know what else to do to make them stop charging me. I now cannot afford my BGE bill and I have my father living with me who is on oxygen. Please help.Desired Settlement: I want them to stop being my energy supplier and to credit my BGE bill for the difference of the rate promised and the rate charged.

The HIKO toll-free number as published on the website and all documentation is [redacted]. Customer Service Reps are available during regular business hours to respond to customer calls. All calls are answered immediately or, if a message is left, a call back will be made within 24 hours. The customer complained that her rate tripled after the first month which is not the case. the rate did not even double for that matter. The customer's usage did increase by over 1,000 kWh from the time she first signed up with HIKO and that is the primary reason for her higher bills.

We received the rebuttal the from this customer. There no records found that this customer even enrolled with Hiko Energy. Review: I am ** yrs old and legally blind, so my daughter [redacted] is writing this complaint on my behalf with my authorization. Around April this year hiko called my home and insisted that I should accept them as energy providers. My home health aide was the person answering the phone calls. I declined the service offer, many more phone calls were done to my home. They assured my home health aide I would save money and offered a free month worth of service, they convinced my home health aide to give my [redacted] number by phone, then a letter followed from them giving me a few days to cancel if I chose to. Within a few days we called hiko to cancel since I did not want and did not request their services. They stalled and in no time a bill for $104.05 arrived. My whole bill for that month tripled . Many phone calls were made to hiko to disconnect and dispute the unwanted services / charges. They almost never ,ever pick up the phone. I do not feel I am responsible to pay for services I did not authorized. They pray on the weak and elderly who become easy victims of fraud.Desired Settlement: Cancel unauthorized hiko charges of $104.05. I will never pay them. [redacted] is threatening to disconnect my services due to this problem. Please take hiko out of business. They are a disgrace to consumers. Thankyou for your help in advance. Review: They promised to lower my energy bill and to beat [redacted] prices for at least the first 6 months and not pay delivery charges. Now I've been billed quite a but more than [redacted] would have charged and [redacted] is unable to switch back for 60 days, by the time which heating bills will have gone down anyway.

Their reps come and knock on your door and promise to beat [redacted]. During this especially frigid winter its really bad to have to pay these higher bills.

The first month (before heat was needed) I noticed the rate issue and they sent me a check for $17. I asked the same rep who had the check issued what would happen in future months but she never responded (via email)

I've left them a voice mail seeing as they weren't answering today but feel this is a classic bait and switch advertising rip off, I'm only sorry I signed up for it.

After the first rep came several others did too and were often obnoxious, pushy and mean, should have cancelled then.Desired Settlement: They need to at least match what [redacted] would have charged, which is outlined on my bill until I can complete the transfer in 60 days away from this company.

Review: I was contacted by Hiko on my home phone number and told that if I switched from orange and rockland my current provider to them I would save money.(an avg of 200$ a month) I still pay my bill through [redacted] however HIKO provides the electricity at a much lower competitive rate...Hiko went over my elec bill KWH prices and said they offer MUCH cheaper rates and so I agreed. when I received my 1st bill on 2/**/14 it was for $1258.93! I have never had a bill so high. This was my first billing cycle with them. they charged me 16.1 KWH. Finally on 2/**/14 I spoke with [redacted] at ext **(this was her only ID she could release)...I wanted a supervisor. I was told that since they had called me to solicit my business the month prior-there was a change and that HIKO was "no longer able to complete with larger suppliers like orange and rockland" I explained my situation that This was against what I was told and against the ENTIRE PURPOSE OF ME SWITCHING TO THEM-WHY WOULD I [redacted] MY CURRENT CARRIER TO PAY MORE $? This is my FIRST billing cycle...she agreed and offered to pass the info along. I told her cancel my service today!2/**/14 confirmation # [redacted]...I will not pay those prices.2/**I got a letter stating they would cancel my service AFTER the next billing cycle 3/**/14!!!!---even though my previous bill states the next meter reading is March ** I called again asking for a [redacted] and was told there is none...The gentleman was compassionate to my problem and agreed I am entitled to a refund and said he would "send an email through proper channels" and cancel my service asap. This company deceived me. They cannot argue that rates go up and change because this was the FIRST BILLING CYCLE!!!!!! They did not cancel my service in a timely manner.

Response:

Revdex.com Complaint ID:[redacted]

Our call volume had drastically increased during the period the customer tried to contact us, but to ensure that customers are able to reach us, we have doubled our Customer Service staff. On 02/**/2014 a customer service supervisor called back the customer leaving a message on the answering machine.

Upon thorough review of the enrollment, the customer enrolled on variable rate which fluctuates based on current market conditions. The offer also included one free month of energy supply after 12 months of services. As you know, this winter we’ve seen some of the harshest weather in years. The cold affected electricity generation systems, particularly natural gas, in the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast such that supply weakened and prices skyrocketed, catching many homeowners and business by surprise. Because we only offer variable rates, our rates went up to reflect our cost.

Unfortunately, because we feel that we have been compliant with the terms and conditions of the enrollment we will not be able to honor the request of a refund. A copy of the Third Party Verification recording is available if the customer wishes to listen to the enrollment offer by calling our Customer Service Department at ###-###-####.

This is really sad and insulting. You solicited my business promising me that your variable rates were less than my suppliers. Your employee later told me you were unable to compete. This was the first billing cycle not 6 months in. It is false advertising and promises..I will file complaints with utilities commission for misconduct and hire an attorney if necessary .you did not cancel my service when told to do so nor did you even come out to read the meter! Response:

We received the rebuttal from this customer. We had explain that variable rates increase at any moment without notice because they are subject to market conditions, in that retail prices fall and rise due to supply and demand principles on a daily bases. Periods of extreme weather, such as this unusually cold winter can cause substantial price fluctuations. As opposed to a Fixed rate contract where the rate will remain the same for a set period of time.

As per the meter reading which was not done and of the overestimated reading. The customer needs to direct this issue with the utility company [redacted]. HIKO energy does not read the meters. We feel at this point there is nothing further that we can offer this customer.

It figures that the company would choose to pass the buck! yet not refund it. The bottom LINE HERE IS they 100% LIED. It was their own CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT [redacted] STATED" WE are NO longer able to compete from 2 weeks ago when we made those calls" It is their own Customer service agents stating they are wrong but there is and I quote " no manager to deal with billing issues" so Its very funny that they waited to even respond to the Revdex.com w/ a lame excuse only after several attempts and ignoring them as well blaming it on call volume...** the P.U.C. is mortified by this look at all fixed rates online at the time and variable and still you will see that they overcharged beyond whats appropriate and beyond what was promised...Did not cancel service as told...refused to have a supervisor call back..This PLace HIKO ENERGY is the worst NEVER GET YOUR UTILITIES FROM THEM I AM STARTING A [redacted] PAGE TO LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW CRAPPY THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AND HOW THEY FRAUDULANTLY SCAMMED A SINGLE MOTHER OF 4 WITH A [redacted] CHILD! AND CALLING THE TIMES HERALD RECORD! NOONE WILL DO BUSINESS WITH THEM EVER AGAIN.!!!!!

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Review: Hiko send out sales people door to door to sale alleged lower energy to [redacted] customers. They claim that the gas and electric bill will go down due to an open market for the purchase of utilities. This has shown not to be true. My first bill was about $220 over my normal monthly [redacted] bill. I called HIKO immediately and the customer service assured me that it was a first bill provider switching situation. My next bill for March showed that I owed in excess of $600. I called HIKO again and complained about double billing and to cancel their service. They agreed to cancel but it would take 60 days. That's 2 more months of being ripped off. They referred me to [redacted] and said they can expedite the cancellation. I called [redacted] and found that this was not true. [redacted] stated that HIKO often do that to get people off the phone.

Hiko offer a false truth. The promise to lower your bill on one end and fail to tell you that you will still get charged by [redacted] and their surcharges and other fees will exceed what you normally would have paid.

I see that you'll ask the military status of people. You do not ask if they served and are in a disable status. I am a 30% disabled vet. I served 4 years in the US Air ForceDesired Settlement: I want my account cancelled from the first day and my billing made whole. My service returned back to [redacted]. I paid for February. They can have that, but no more. I want them gone.

They made good and gave me my money back........Thank you Revdex.com

Review: This company advertises they can save you money on your electric bill. I know what they're offering is a variable rate product, but the amounts billed are sometimes in excess of 30% on top of my conEd bill for delivery of electricity. They should state that your bill could go up by 30% instead of "we can save you money". They sent us a letter stating that colder than normal temperatures were to blame for the high prices. That leads me to believe that I'm not the only one to complain. I just think in the future, the possible negative outcome of a variable rate contract needs to be equally represented as the possible positive outcome so that people may weigh their options. I'm willing to bet that if consumers knew this was going to happen they would not have signed up. I am also disappointed that I have to wait 1 to 2 billing cycles before I have to stop paying their additional fees.Desired Settlement: I have paid approximately $900 over the last eight months on top of what I pay conEd for this basic necessity. An adjustment would be nice. If that is not possible, then I was hoping they could terminate these additional fees immediately, rather than in another one to two billing cycles. Maybe conEd should also be at fault. They advertise these services on their website with a category heading of "receive a 7% discount". They display that, but they make no mention of a possible 30% increase.

Sincerely,

Review: I am a National Grid customer. Sometime ago, I "signed-up" (in response to a telephone call from them) to be my electricity supplier. This was in response to the telephone solicitor's promise that their rate would be consistently lower (at least 10%) than National Grid's rate. This seemed to be the case initially, but in recent months, Hiko's charge has increased dramatically. In February of this year it came to $50, and in March more than $100 more than National Grid. This deviation has been gradual, but consistent over several months so it was not immediately noticeable until it became extreme. In the past year, it has amounted to more than $400 over the National Grid rate.

Their website states "HIKO Energy, LLC is committed to lowering the cost for energy consumers in all markets we serve. As a local, independent supplier, we understand the needs of both residents and businesses within our greater community. With that in mind, we strive to offer the most competitive pricing in the marketplace. Our goal is to provide excellent customer service and a tailored cost savings plan that's right for each person or need.

By keeping a close eye on markets and trends and strategically purchasing energy on your behalf, we work to ensure more money stays where it belongs - in your pocket. "Desired Settlement: I wish to warn others who may be contemplating switching their electricity supply service to Hiko Energy.

Sincerely,

Review: Representative for their company came to my door and sold me services on the promise that my bills would immediately show a significant savings, but misrepresented the product and service I was being offered and failed to disclose information including that Hiko has variable rates and that I would still be paying a delivery charge for gas and electric from PSE&G. Instead of reducing my bill, my bill has increased by 75%!!! Going from approximately $450 dollars to $750.00.Desired Settlement: I would like my bill adjusted to be less or the same as my previous bill!! This increase is unacceptable. They should also be held accountable for hiring people who misrepresented there organization to SO many people. This would always be unacceptable, but in this economy it is even more shameful. This is there responsibility for hiring and allowing people to represent them in this way and the customers should not have to pay for this grave error (that they admit was an error when you call them to complain, but they have no remedy to offer!).

Review: I signed up with HIKO Energy a couple months ago when an aggressive sales person came knocking on our door. I have in writing, the following statement:

"Guaranteed Savings! You have been enrolled onto a variable rate, which is guaranteed to be 1-7% less than your local Utility's price to compare, for the first six monthly billing cycles."

It explains afterwards, that following the six-month period, I will get rolled onto a competitive variable rate.

When I received the first monthly bill they charged me $162.66 for the supply portion of my electricity compared to my utility provider's price to compare of $61.17.

That is more than double what I was promised. I contacted customer support once who tried to tell me that the savings are guaranteed for the full duration of the 6 month billing cycles, which I still can't imagine how they can make back up the difference, nor was that how it was explained to me. I was promised a partial refund, but the difference is not enough to make up the discrepancy in price. I have yet to receive even that partial refund. I have tried to call them numerous times to check on my refund and cancel my service with them, but I only get directed to a voicemail box which has gone unanswered.Desired Settlement: I would like agreement with them to be immediately cancelled, and my energy immediately switched back to my service provider, PSE&G. I would also like a refund of the total difference between my price to compare and HIKO's charged price for that billing cycle, and any other difference in rate charges before my provider is switched back.
