Indiegogo Reviews (688)

We understand that this customer has additional concerns on this matter.
To clarify, Indiegogo is a global crowdfunding platform that empowers people to raise funds for the things that matter to them, and in turn allows backers to help fund ideas they'd like to see come to life. As the contributor states in their complaint, contributing to a campaign on Indiegogo is not the same thing as making a purchase in a store. People can raise money for various things, and be at various stages of their project. Contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made project. Like anyone contributing to an early-stage project, you accept the risk that the project might experience delays, changes to their original vision, or may not come to fruition.
The BauBax campaign has been communicative about their campaign, the fact that they received many more orders than expected, and have communicated their new shipping timeline. Again, we'd encourage this backer to review: [redacted], where they outline they've begun to ship their products. Furthermore, many backers have confirmed receipt of the perks, with more arriving every day. The campaign owner is being communicative and replying to comments posted to their Indiegogo campaign: [redacted]
Should this customer have questions about when they can expect to receive their perk, or would like to pursue a refund request, we encourage them to reach out to the owner of the campaign for more details.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/02/11) */
Indiegogo is an open platform that permits campaign owners to raise funds for a wide range of projects in accordance with our Terms of Use (www.indiegogo.com/about/terms). Contributions made through Indiegogo are transactions that take...

place between the campaign owner, contributor, and payment processor, and are non-refundable by Indiegogo, as stated in our Terms of Use. Indiegogo does not manage campaigns; instead, Campaign Owners run and are responsible for their own campaigns.
It is important to note that contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made product. Indiegogo does not make claims or verify that a campaign owner will deliver perks and instead recommends that each contributor go through their own vetting process before they decide to contribute. We have compiled a list of how to evaluate a campaign, as a good starting point: https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/XXXXXX-How-to-Evaluate-a-Campaig... /> That said, like anyone supporting an early-stage project, contributors accept the risk that the project might not come to fruition. Many campaign owners are able to use the funds raised from their Indiegogo campaign to help bring their ideas into reality. However, there are times when projects do not go according to plan or the campaign owner experiences an insurmountable barrier to completing their project. In all cases, we still require Campaign Owners to be communicative to their contributors, be transparent about the status of their project, and work with their contributors no matter the outcome of their project.
According to our Terms of Use, Indiegogo is under no obligation to mediate campaigner/contributor disputes. With that said, we have attempted to contact the owner of this campaign multiple times, but unfortunately have not received any response. Because this campaign owner has remained unresponsive and has not delivered perks, we have taken measures to ensure that this campaign owner does not raise funds on Indiegogo in the future.
Our Terms of Use (https://www.indiegogo.com/about/terms) binds campaign owners to use funds and deliver any perks as promised in their campaign. You can use our Terms of Use in a court of law should you decide to take legal action.
We have been in touch with this contributor and to facilitate communication we have provided them with the contact information of this campaign owner.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/02/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I believe any company should operate with integrity and good values. It truly saddens me that anyone believes its "okay" to make money off of a fraud. My complaint doesn't stem from the campaign owner running just one campaign and not following through on what he promised, but rather multiple campaigns (I believe it was 5 separate campaigns totaling well over $100,000) from the same owner, in which he did NOT deliver on any of them, but IndieGoGo sure did allow, because they make a great deal of money off of the huge amounts this man raised. I've never felt so robbed by a company. There is absolutely no way that this could be legal. Thankfully, I only lost $60, which honestly isn't a big deal. However, I'm making this complaint to protect others. IndieGoGo is making money off fraud campaigns! Anybody with a brain knows that this is illegal in the United States and I'm sure in the rest of the world too. I hope to bring light to this crowdfunding scheme and put a stop to it once and for all. It'd be one thing if one these fraudulent campaigns, IndieGoGo returned the portion they made to donators, but as we can all see, this certainly isn't in the plans for IndieGoGo. I know very well that some innovations don't work out and even so, cost a considerable amount of money, but its so obvious that this wasn't the case with this campaign owner. He clearly had money pocketing on his mind throughout the whole process. He changed his name, email, and contact info listed in his IndieGoGo profile, he's stopped responding to those who donated, and he apparently won't respond to IndieGoGo either. Innocent? I doubt it. Now, this is where IndieGoGo needs to step in and cough up what they made from ALL of his campaigns, turn him into the FBI, and make sure justice is served. Clearly, though, IndieGoGo is running off plenty of fraud campaigns b/c they won't do the ethical thing with just one campaign. Really? This is unfortunate to say the least. IndieGoGo, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves!

We understand this customer has additional concerns regarding this matter.
In order to maintain the openness of our platform while protecting the security of our users, Indiegogo uses a proprietary fraud detection algorithm to quickly catch violations or unwanted behavior on our platform. We also rely on our team of Trust and Safety experts to review and verify activity on our platform and take the appropriate action. Finally, we have a fantastic community of users who let us know about suspicious or inappropriate behavior that helps us keep our platform secure.
This campaign owner was complaint with our Terms of Use until they remained unresponsive to contributors and Indiegogo, and did not deliver perks. Because of this, as stated previously, we have taken measures to ensure that this campaign owner does not raise funds on Indiegogo in the future.
Indiegogo offers a space for innovation and discovery. We do not make claims as to whether a project is possible or impossible or whether a campaign can create their products. Instead we provide a platform where people who are passionate [redacted] their ideas can connect with funders who believe in their vision. It's a core part of our ethos as a business and we vehemently stand by this belief. Our customers deserve the opportunity to fund ideas they believe in. The crowd is entitled to decide, eyes wide open, what concepts they want to have a part in trying to advance.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2015/03/09) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Unfortunately, IndieGoGo failed to provide a solution. Given that, I am not satisfied with their response. Its truly unacceptable that they are doing this to generous donators. This campaign owner didn't just run one big campaign, take what he could from donators, and run. Even worse, he ran multiple (5 to be exact) campaigns totally more than $100,000. It has become VERY clear that he had no intentions of delivering on his part.
Nonetheless, what most people probably haven't even realized yet is that IndieGoGo makes a great deal of money off these campaigns. Because it is very apparent this campaign is a fraud (i.e. not delivering product, failed promises, changing his contact info including his name on the campaign page, disguising other info, and so on - very clear), not only do I think IndieGoGo should forfeit profits from ALL of his campaigns, but I'm pretty sure its a HUGE crime for them not to. I'm going to get to the bottom of this.

Indiegogo is a global crowdfunding platform that empowers people to raise funds for the things that matter to them. Regarding this customer's refund request, our records show that this contributor's contribution has already been sent to the...

campaigner, which means that Indiegogo can no longer issue a refund. Learn more about our refund policy [redacted], and in our Terms of Use, [redacted].
Therefore, we recommend the contributor reach out directly to the campaign owner if they are interested in receiving a refund.
Regarding the perk this contributor claimed, perk fulfillment is the full responsibility of the campaign owner, not Indiegogo. Our Terms of Use (http://[redacted]) obligates campaign owners to fulfill any promised perks. Our Terms of Use states,
"Indiegogo is an online crowdfunding venue for people and entities seeking to raise funds for their own Campaigns and to contribute to the Campaigns of others. Campaign Owners can offer gifts or rewards in the form of tangible items or intangible services (collectively, "Perks") to Contributors. Perks are not offered for sale. Indiegogo makes no representations about the quality, safety, morality or legality of any Campaign, Perk or Contribution or the truth or accuracy of your User Content (as defined below) posted on the Service. Indiegogo does not represent that Campaign Owners will deliver Perks or that Contributions will be used as described in the Campaign. Users use the Service at their own risk."
Although we are unable to refund the contributor's contribution, we have been in touch with this contributor and have shared the campaign owner's contact information with this contributor in an effort to facilitate communication.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 15, 2015/11/30) */
Indiegogo supplied useless contact information that do not exist! Nanoplug contact information for a "Serbian" group who are not interested in replying as they have robbed the deaf community of a quarter of a million dollars with Indiegogo's stamp of approval.
Indiegogo were red flagged about this campaign by other deaf participants long before my money was taken, but Indiegogo failed to act.
Your terms state that you won't support fraudulent campaigns, well you did knowingly.
I have supplied written documentation from the Indiegogo/nanoplug website designer "Jongha Lee" stating it was all a scam!
So please stop constantly trying to provide an email address for nanoplug in an attempt to pass the blame, as you already know full well that the email address is never answered and will never be answered. They are a fraud, and Indiegogo is a participating accomplice.
You allowed this campaign to happen to make money for Indiegogo, you ignored the red flag warning from participants, you failed to get any information from the campaign owner other than an "email" and false address -An unbelievably bad Vetting procedure. Then you allow circa 250k dollars of the deaf community's money to be divided between you.
Indiegogo should be ashamed.
This is a completely unsatisfactory outcome.
Hi
The situation has not been resolved.
Again, thank you for your help with this situation.
Kind regards

Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 19, 2015/12/12) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Indiegogo Only contacted me via email with a copy and paste answer highlighting there t&c..."Indiegogo is an online crowdfunding venue for people and entities seeking to raise funds etc".
As they have now done once again as a reply to my prior responce on Revdex.com.
Indiegogo have not once answered to a direct criticism OR question regarding this fraudulent case, they constantly evade any direct answering in every regard.
1. They failed to Vet the scam group calling themselves Nanoplug.
2. They still fail to admit that $250,000 of hearing impaired clients money have today NO sign of the product, or any product at all. Yet Indiegogo profited from this fraud.
3. Failed to close down a "product" that never went into production, testing, or any patent application(YES I checked). So yes, this is fraud.Your T&C do not protect you from what the law states as fraud.
4. I ask the question once again, why does Indiegogo continue to say that I should contact Nanoplug..as stated they do not exist. Nanoplug is fictitious.
5. I paid Indiegogo, I now once again request Indiegogo to return my money so I can use it to purchase REAL hearing aids.
Revdex.com -please kindly assist in this matter, as Indiegogo are not interested in being honest or trustworthy, they care only about making money. This much is clear.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
Indiegogo in their response stats that "Indiegogo doesn't vet campaigners ability to follow through on their claims."  My claim is that Indiegogo doesn't vet their campaigners at all.  Indiegogo can provide me no legitimate means of contacting the campaign owner. They give links to defunct social media and a name that turns up no results.  They have not given backers any legitimate means of contacting the owner and they have not been responsive in addressing backer concerns and instead close everyone's tickets as resolved.
Sincerely,[redacted]

We are happy to hear that this backer has been able to work with one of the campaigners outlined in their [redacted], and has come to a satisfactory resolution.

Regarding the other campaigner with whom this backer has not gotten a refund from, as previously outlined, Indiegogo is not able to issue this customer a refund for their contribution. Our[redacted]:
"Refunds
Contributors may request a refund from Indiegogo before the end of a Campaign here. For Campaigns that have entered the InDemand program, Contributors may request a refund from Indiegogo within 10 days of the contribution, here. Contributions are eligible for a refund by Indiegogo unless (a) the contribution funds have already been transferred to the Campaign Owner, (b) the Perk associated with the contribution has been fulfilled, or (c) Indiegogo determines that there has been an abuse of these Terms of Use. Indiegogo reserves the right to terminate User Accounts and remove Campaigns for any abuse of this refund policy. For Campaigns that have ended, or in situations where the contribution funds have been transferred to the Campaign Owner, Contributors should contact the Campaign Owner directly regarding refunds."
Campaign owners are the party solely responsible for their campaigns, including fulfilling any perks they offered therein. As such, if this customer has questions about the campaign, when they can expect to receive their perks, or would like to receive a refund from this campaign owner, this customer will need to make inquires of the campaign owner, directly. We are unable to mediate this dispute, but have previously provided this customer with the campaign owner's contact information in an effort to facilitate communication.
We wish them the best of luck in arriving at a resolution to their dispute, with the campaign owner.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Since they are the business that enables this kind of fraud, they should take responsibility when it becomes an issue for contributors. If they weren't making money then they have no liability. In this case, it's obvious that the creator of alyt (being over a year late) is not making any effort then it seems indiegogo would be worrying about the customers of it's site. But if they feel they don't have to do anything...while kickstarter does.. it's only a matter of time before more of these scare people away. Sending an email with some form letter to a campaign creator is not an effort to help users. It would be different if you mediated a conversation between them and myself..

Ultimately, that TOA is not valid. You take money from us and take money from the campaign owners. If the campaign owners are scammers then it constitutes fraud. If you do not have a way to protect against fraud then you can be liable. See: ebay. So no, I expect them to do more in the way of working with ways to retrieve funder's money back.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because it still doesn't seems like a genuine response, I keep saying I'd prefer a personal email. It's not about the money, its about a corporate culture, that seems to have a tin ear about its responsibility within the crowdfunding space. In my own half a decade career in customer support I generally resolve these kinds of issues within 24 to 48 hours. IndieGogo so far just keeps being circular in sending me canned responses about terms of use, and when it claims to have reached out to me doesn't seem to feel the need to indicate who and when someone contacted me. If they can't keep track it means they don't even care. I went so far to delete my account and they don't even seem to notice. After this experience I also don't intend to fund anything through IndieGogo, and as someone who is part of a fortune 1,000 business with 20 billion in annual revenue I'll recommend everyone who asks me about IndieGogo to avoid them. Sincerely,[redacted]

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
I read everything Indiegogo had on their website concerning campaigns.  The campaign owner, [redacted], has NOT contacted any of the contributors nor has he performed the duty of giving the donations to the man named "[redacted]" AND has started shutting down any email addresses that can be attributed to  him such as: [redacted] and  [redacted].
[redacted] scammed us all!  Indiegogo needs to change the way they handle funds and should be assisting in bringing this thief to justice, instead of giving responses and doing nothing to assist.  The [redacted] PD police report for this scam is [redacted].

This is a blanket response from Indiegogo - it may be stated in their terms and conditions. They (Indiegogo) have promoted a third campaign without checking the intentions of SOAP (due diligence), they have taking payment from SOAP (from our payments via their website) - this is an unregulated activity that they are hosting on their system.
User beware - the above site takes no responsibility for any activity on their site that involves their users or provides any due diligence for checking potential campaigns.

We understand this customer has a question about a campaign which raised funds on Indiegogo.
Indiegogo is a global crowdfunding platform which empowers people to raise funds for the things that matter to them, and in turn allows contributors...

to help fund ideas they'd like to help bring to life. Campaign owner's often offer perks (goods, services, etc.) in exchange for contributions to their campaign.
Campaigns are run by their respective owners, and perks are offers made solely by the campaign owner- not by Indiegogo. As such, Indiegogo is not able to guarantee that perks will be delivered or deemed satisfactory. The nature of crowdfunding is such that campaigns on Indiegogo are raising funds for work-in-progress projects, ideas, or causes. Contributing to a campaign and claiming a perk on Indiegogo is not the same as buying something online. Like anyone getting in on an early-stage project, contributors accept the risk that the project may experiences changes, delays, unforeseen challenges, and it's possible that a project they fund might not come to fruition.
We see that the owner of this campaign has been communicating with their contributors regarding the status of their project, as well as roadblocks they are encountering, and what steps they are taking. We encourage this contributor to review the campaign's updates tab (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/wave-electric-28-mph-bike#/updates) for the most up-to-date information from the campaign owner, directly.
Because contributions made through Indiegogo are transactions that take place between the campaign owner, contributor, and payment processor, we are unable to issue a refund to this contributor. However, we do suggest that the contributor feel free to reach out directly to the campaign owner to resolve any perk questions or request a refund.
We have been in touch with this contributor to outline this information.

Finally, Indiegogo is not able to mediate disputes between users, including those around refunds or perk fulfillment. Our Terms state “In the event of any dispute, such as a Campaign Owner's alleged failure to comply with the Terms or alleged failure in fulfillment of a Perk, we may provide the Campaign Owner's contact information to the Contributor so that the two parties may resolve their dispute.” It is up to the backer and campaigner to resolve these matters between one another, directly.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/10/25) */
Indiegogo is a global crowdfunding platform that empowers people to raise funds for the things that matter to them. As the contributor states in their complaint, contributing to a campaign on Indiegogo is not the same thing as making a...

purchase in a store. People can raise money for various things, and be at various stages of their project. Contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made project. Like anyone contributing to an early-stage project, you accept the risk that the project might experience delays, changes to their original vision, or may not come to fruition. We have tips on how to evaluate a campaign in our Help Center: http://support.indiegogo.com/entries/XXXXXXXX-how-to-evaluate-a-campaign.
Regarding this customer's refund request, our records show that this contributor's contribution has already been sent to the campaigner, which means that a refund can no longer be issued by Indiegogo. Therefore, we recommend the contributor reach out directly to the campaign owner if they are interested in receiving a refund. Learn more about our refund policy https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/XXXXXX, and in our Terms of Use, www.indiegogo.com/about/terms.
By creating a campaign on Indiegogo, the campaign owner agrees to use funds and fulfill all perks as stated in their campaign. If, for any reason, they are unable to use Contributions as described in their Campaign, they agree to work with the Contributors to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution, which may include refunding their Contributions.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/10/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
They need to take action against the fraudulent business they presented to the public and supported.
The fraudulent business in question offers no response or communication to backers.
Indiegogo needs to step in on the backers behalf.
Thank You
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/11/03) */
We understand that this customer has additional thoughts on this matter.
Indiegogo provides an open crowdfunding platform permitting funds to be raised for a wide range of projects in accordance with our Terms of Use (www.indiegogo.com/about/terms). Campaigns are run by their individual campaign owner's and not by Indiegogo.
People can raise money for various things, and be at various stages of their project. Contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made project. Like anyone contributing to an early-stage project, you accept the risk that the project might not come to fruition. Again, Indiegogo does not make claims or verify that a "campaign owner will deliver perks or that contributions will be used as described on the campaign." The decision to contribute to any campaign is in the sole determination of the contributor and their evaluation of the campaign, not Indiegogo. We recommend that each contributor go through their own vetting process before they decide to contribute. We have compiled a list of how to evaluate a campaign, as a good starting point: https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/XXXXXX-How-to-Evaluate-a-Campaig... /> Indiegogo does not manage campaigns, nor does Indiegogo offer perks. Furthermore, Indiegogo is not able to mediate disputes. Instead, all perks are offers made by Campaign Owners, and we recommend to any contributor who has questions about a campaign's offerings, refunds, or when they can expect to receive their perks, that make inquires of the campaign owner, directly.
