Indiegogo Reviews (688)

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:

The issue with indiegogo is not that the campaign has not delivered on it's promise. There has been multiple complaints by donors against this campaign, where the donor has not received any goods since last year. Indiegogo is definitely aware of such complains. However, instead of putting a stop to the campaign donations and finding out why the donors has not been receiving their promised goods, Indeigogo still collecting funds from donors for this campaign. Indiegogo which is crowdfunding site is run by the donor's and contributions. Therefore, they have a moral obligation to the donors and contributors. When a campaign is scamming a large amount of donor's, by continually supporting such campaigns makes one to believe Indiegogo is part of the scam.Sincerely,[redacted]

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/05/10) */
Indiegogo is a global crowdfunding platform that empowers people to raise funds for the things that matter to them. It's important to note that contributing to a campaign on Indiegogo is not the same thing as making a purchase in a...

store. People can raise money for various things, and be at various stages of their project. Contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made project. Like anyone contributing to an early-stage project, you accept the risk that the project might experience delays, changes to their original vision, or may not come to fruition. We have tips on how to evaluate a campaign in our Help Center, as a starting point: http://support.indiegogo.com/entries/XXXXXXXX-how-to-evaluate-a-campaign.
Contributions made through Indiegogo are transactions that take place between the campaign owner, contributor, and payment processor, and are non-refundable by Indiegogo, as stated in our Terms of Use (www.indiegogo.com/about/terms.) Therefore, we recommend the contributor reach out directly to the campaign owner if they are interested in receiving a refund. Although we are unable to refund the contributor's contribution, we have been in touch with this contributor and have shared the campaign owner's contact information with this contributor in an effort to facilitate communication.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/05/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I think Indiegogo should do more for contributors like me. It was not obvious to me that I might be throwing my money away. I have written Indiegogo numerous times only to be told, basically, to take a long walk off a short pier.
I will say that the manufacturer has written me to say that my Healbe Gobe calorie measuring bracelets will be shipped by the end of May. It is May 27, 2015 and I have not received a tracking number yet. I think that Indiegogo finally contacted him on my behalf thanks to Revdex.com.
I am willing to accept the product and not ask for a refund IF I receive the product. It is still not certain though.
The issue is not resolved until I receive the product, or receive a refund.

Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/06/02) */
We understand that this customer has some additional points regarding the HealbeGobe campaign.
Perks are offers made solely by the campaign owner, not by Indiegogo. We see that the campaign owner has been posting updates regarding their campaign and when they anticipate they will be shipping their products. We highly recommend that this contributor review the campaign's updates tab for the most up-to-date information about this campaign, directly from the campaign owner: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/healbe-gobe-the-only-way-to-automatically-mea... /> That said, Indiegogo provides an open crowdfunding platform permitting funds to be raised for a wide range of projects in accordance with our Terms of Use (www.indiegogo.com/about/terms). People can raise money for various things, and be at various stages of their project. Contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made project. Like anyone contributing to an early-stage project, you accept the risk that the project might experience delays, changes to their product, or may even not come to fruition. Again, Indiegogo does not make claims or verify that a "campaign owner will deliver perks or that contributions will be used as described on the campaign." The decision to contribute to any campaign is in the sole determination of the contributor and their evaluation of the campaign, not Indiegogo. We recommend that each contributor goes through their own vetting process before they decide to contribute. We have compiled a list of how to evaluate a campaign, as a good starting point: https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/XXXXXX-How-to-Evaluate-a-Campaig... /> Campaigns are run by their individual campaign owner's and not by Indiegogo. Indiegogo does not manage campaigns, nor does Indiegogo offer perks. Instead, all perks are offers made by Campaign Owners, and we recommend to any contributor who has questions about a campaign's offerings, when they can expect to receive their perk, or to request a refund that make inquires of the campaign owner. Although we are unable to refund the contributor's contribution, we have been in touch with this contributor and have shared the campaign owner's contact information with this contributor in an effort to facilitate communication.

business days of a campaign's deadline, assuming that the bank account information is complete and accurate. For Generosity fundraisers, funds are disbursed on a monthly basis. Additionally, all disbursement information is outlined in our Generosity Help Center: [redacted]Unfortunately, in this case, the campaign owner's bank information was incomplete. However, we've since been in touch with them and as it's been updated, they can expect their campaign funds to be disburse within 15 business days of updating their bank information, and will receive an email notification when the funds have been disbursed. We have also been in contact with the campaign owner directly in order to clarify this process.

We understand this customer has additional concerns on this matter, as they have not received a refund from the owner of this campaign.
As has previously outlined, Indiegogo is not able to issue this customer a refund for their contribution. Our Terms of Use outline:
"Refunds
Backers may request a refund from Indiegogo before the end of a Campaign here. For Campaigns that have entered the InDemand program, Backers may request a refund from Indiegogo within 10 days of the contribution, here. Contributions are eligible for a refund by Indiegogo unless (a) the contribution funds have already been transferred to the Campaigner, (b) the Perk associated with the contribution has been fulfilled, or (c) Indiegogo determines that there has been an abuse of these Terms of Use. Indiegogo reserves the right to terminate User Accounts and remove Campaigns for any abuse of this refund policy. For Campaigns that have ended, or in situations where the contribution funds have been transferred to the Campaigner, Backers should contact the Campaigner directly regarding refunds."
Campaigners are the party solely responsible for their campaigns, including fulfilling any perks they offered therein. As such, if this customer has questions about the campaign, when they can expect to receive their perks, or would like to receive a refund from this Campaigner, this customer will need to make inquires of the Campaigner, directly. We are unable to mediate this dispute, but have previously provided this customer with the Campaigner's contact information in an effort to facilitate communication.

Further, in reviewing this customer's contribution, we can see that they have filed a chargeback. When a chargeback is filed against a transaction made on Indiegogo, the customer's financial institution will proceed to investigate the dispute. The investigation may take up to 75 business days and is solely up to the financial institution. Once a decision has been reached, the financial institution will notify the payment processor, who will then notify Indiegogo. We encourage the customer to refer to this article [redacted] for more information about Chargebacks.
We wish them the best of luck in arriving at a resolution to their dispute, with the Campaigner.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Then the business should not tell participants that they will receive the product, send "updates" indicating on the production of the product, and give anticipated ship dates. Poor way to do business.
I contacted [redacted] directly and received a response from their CEO who told me that it is not [redacted]'s business ethic to treat customers in this fashion (i.e., not issuing a requested refund). He had his people issue me the refund, plus $20.00 for my trouble, which has been done through PayPal. That is "Customer Happiness", not Indiegogo's.
I will never use any crowdsourcing nonsense, especially Indiegogo. You may let the business know that--as though it makes any difference to them.
A very poor way of doing business.

We appreciate this customer's response.
As is normal in our chargeback process, we **have** responded back to the chargeback. Our Trust & Safety Team looked into the status of this chargeback in our payment processor, today. We can confirm that it is still pending in our payment processor with no final resolution yet decided. The status they are sharing with us is that the "dispute evidence is being reviewed by the cardholder's bank."
The good news is, that they also show that they will notify us of a decision within the next few weeks. We will update this customer's chargeback on Indiegogo when the final decision is relayed to us by our payment processor.
We appreciate this customer's patience.

The response is insufficient and insulting. If Indiegogo refuses to even acknowledge the difficulties and problems with the system they have enabled then no progress towards a suitable resolution can be made.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/02/22) */
We understand that this customer has follow-up comments to this complaint.
We appreciate their feedback, both on our reply as well as on our platform as a whole. We appreciate their providing us with their feedback on this matter, their experience, and their opinions on our Terms of Use.
Indiegogo does not moderate disputes between campaigners and contributors. Instead, Indiegogo is an open platform dedicated to the support of new ideas, innovations and opportunities. It's a core part of our ethos as a business and we vehemently stand by this belief. Our customers, deserve the opportunity to fund ideas they believe in. The crowd is entitled to decide, eyes wide open, what concepts they want to have a part in trying to advance.
We have been in touch with this contributor and have provided them with the campaign owner's contact information, per our Terms of Use (www.indiegogo.com/about/terms), to facilitate communication between the two parties. We recommend this contributor contact them regarding the campaign, when they can expect to receive their perks, or any refund requests.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2015/02/24) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
While I understand that Indiegogo has decided not to mediate any disputes between contributors and campaign owners, this creates an untenable space in which the individual contributors are forced to take extreme measures to achieve any outcome from non-performing campaigns.
The terms of use have created an unsafe space for consumers "the contributors". They have none of the standard legal protections that a consumer from another online marketplace would have. This creates a situation where only the most determined, vocal, and over the top measures are addressed by derelict campaign owners in order to silence pesky contributors. The majority of contributors end up without any protection or voice in the matter, and often lose their contributions when things go astray.
The entire Indiegogo model is severely flawed and lacking in dispute resolution mechanisms. I will no longer risk supporting Indiegogo campaigns and will encourage any crowdfunders to avoid the platform for these stated reasons.
I have resolved my dispute with the campaign owner. It required that I find the legal business address for the campaign owner, and threaten with legal action through the state attorney general. I made the information publicly accessible to all parties in this affair. Few contributors recieved any refunds and continue to attempt to resolve their disputes. Indiegogo continues to stay uninvolved and even permitted the campaign owner to launch another campaign. This is at best gross negligence, and at worst collusion to commit fraud.
I ask that Indiegogo acknowledge and publicly rebuke the behaviour of the campaign owners, and block them publicly from initiating further campaigns. I ask that they suspend their activities, until they can complete a legal review, and overhaul their terms of use and dispute resolution mechanisms.
I ask that they institute hold back amounts, and a dispute resolution mechanism to improve trust with contributors. It would also be timely if Indiegogo were to further investigate potential campaigns and assign a risk profile to help educate potential backers. While the current model places all responsibility on contributors, the way the promotion and perks are currently presented is severely misleading and feels more like informed presales, then risky support.
As a contributor you are considered neither a consumer, nor an investor. You lose all protections that either would provide. Please clarify your methods and terms so that one or the other is actually apperent and true. If contributors are investors, ensure that campaign owners are issuing stock to their backers, if consumers ensure they deliver the promised goods.
Get out of the gray zone and help protect your sites users. You're enriching yourselves at our expense by taking a cut for providing access to people looking to exploit contributors.
Do something, business as status quo is a risk to destroying the trust in crowdfunding and will destroy your business model as people sour to being taken advantage of.
Your choice.

Indiegogo is a global crowdfunding platform that empowers people to raise funds for the things that matter to them, and in turn allows backers to help fund ideas they'd like to see come to life. Our Terms of Use (http://[redacted]) obligates campaign owners to fulfill any promised perks. Perk fulfillment is the full responsibility of the campaign owner. Our Terms of Use states,

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/02/09) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept their response. Providing boilerplate and unsubstantiated answers to all questions does nothing to stop the RITOT fraud, or explain Indiegogo's negligence in the matter.
Allow me to respond to each of the two points that Indiegogo makes in their response;
"We found their campaign to be inline with our guidelines..."
Indiegogo's Terms of Use Agreement is the legal part of their 'guidelines' and RITOT (the campaign) violated them repeatedly from the beginning, continuing to the present. Follows is one oft violated term of said Agreement-"Campaign Owners will respond promptly and truthfully to all questions posed to them by Indiegogo or any Contributor." I have pointed out SPECIFIC examples of questions never answered, and sometimes even deleted by the RITOT campaign to [redacted] SVP of Operations and the Indiegogo legal Department over the past several months. Indiegogo is well aware of these clear breaches of their Terms of Use Agreement and made the conscious decision to ignore them- to the detriment of 8600+ of their customers.
The second part of Indiegogo's response was;
"no reason to doubt a sincere effort to complete the project."
The campaigners gave phony names. The campaigners said that they were located in San Francisco (same town as Indiegogo), when they were really 'working' from Ukraine. They said they had a prototype when none existed. Is this what anyone would call being 'sincere'? Indiegogo also uses the word 'effort'. There was no proof of concept, no prototype, no tangible progress with the project whatsoever in almost 8 months. Is this anyone's definition of 'sincere effort'? They also knew that half of the founding team members left the company, but again they did not figure that this was important enough to warn their customers of this material change of leadership within RITOT.
As I said in my original complaint- Indiegogo knowingly and willfully aided and abetted a Ukrainian scam campaign to bilk more than $1.56 Million dollars from 8500+ people (now $1.6M and 8600+ people).
At minimum, the public must be made aware of Indiegogo's general lack of concern for their customers. But in this particular case, they were downright deceitful and complicit by ignoring facts that allowed a fraud to be perpetrated on their customers- and still is!
While Indiegogo questionably disclaims any responsibility whatsoever to their customers in their Terms of Use Agreement, once their executive and legal departments were made aware of the stated facts, the legal issues became moral issues. Someone in their ivory tower must decide if they are a necessary and viable part of society, or just a temporary collection of mercenaries, hiding behind occasional entrepreneurial 'wins' and currently positive press.
Therefore, I ask that Indiegogo do the morally correct thing, halt the RITOT campaign immediately, and refund the entire $1.6 Million dollars to their customers.
I further suggest that they go here: [redacted]
And use these guidelines to change their policies and practices moving forward to help avoid situations such as this.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/02/26) */
We have received all of this customer's correspondences and have made a good faith effort to address his concerns. This customer has received our response from Indiegogo's Trust and Safety Team and our Legal Department regarding his concerns. Indiegogo has no further information to share regarding this matter.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2015/03/03) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
How can I accept a resolution when Indiegogo has not proposed one?
Indiegogo tried to soothe us with platitudes, instead of answering our questions and concerns, while 8,677 of their customers were being conned out of $1.61 Million dollars in a documented fraud. This negligence is clearly unconscionable, and immoral, if not illegal.
In their latest response (above) Indiegogo says that both their 'Trust and Safety Team' and their 'Legal Department' have responded to me. While I have received only a few replies to my dozen or more emails, none of them respond to my concerns directly. They 'answer' my questions and concerns with the same legally-inert boilerplate responses that other contributors have gotten (yes we talk).
Those emails ask Indiegogo how they can continue the RITOT Campaign when Indiegogo knew that the Contributors had lied about pertinent information- Indiegogo never responded. I pointed out with fiscal and scientific fact that the Projection Watch is impossible to make, and is a fraud. Indiegogo did not comment on these truths either. I pointed out that no progress on the watch has been made in 7 months, still no comment. They don't address my questions at all, they just try to placate me with rhetoric, which is insulting.
Let's talk about that rhetoric for a moment. In it they state that the RITOT Campaign seems 'sincere'. That is very interesting since Indiegogo already knew that the RITOT Campaign had lied about their names and place of business. The same rhetoric states that the Campaign is complying with Indiegogo's Terms of Use. This is flat-out nonsense. I have alerted Indiegogo to multiple breaches of that Agreement by the RITOT Campaign, but as I have been saying, Indiegogo all but ignores me.
Why would Indiegogo try to mitigate Contributor concerns, when they knew that the Campaigners were liars? Why try to mitigate concerns when there was incontrovertible financial and scientific evidence that the Campaign could not deliver? Would they really try to pacify people into contributing just to get their commissions?
It is time that Indiegogo fess up. Did they really look into this matter? If not, as they are claiming, they ignored the concerns of many customers and lied about their findings. If they did look into this, it should have been easy. All they needed was a simple calculator, the Campaign-provided Bill of Materials and a toll-free call to an electronics distributor to see that this project was fiscally impossible. A brief discussion with a Science Teacher would have yielded the same result but from a scientific perspective.
Either way, one can only conclude that Indiegogo did not look into this Campaign in any meaningful fashion, and allowed a lot of damage to happen to their own customers as they sat back and collected their fees.
That brings us back to the question of resolution. Indiegogo was complicit in this travesty by ignoring the facts, and by placating Contributors. They were negligent by leaving their customers to the devices of known liars. Indiegogo had plenty of reasons from multiple sources, and adequate time to have investigated this campaign and stopped the damage from occurring, yet chose to turn a blind-eye. Therefore, there can be only one resolution to this matter- full restitution of the funds back to the contributors.
* Revdex.com Please have Indiegogo answer to the allegations and respond to the requested resolution. Anything else is a waste of everyone's time. Thank you.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2014/07/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
No, we cannot accept
1) We have no contract with "Firstgiving"
2) We didn't received a check
3) Indiegogo must prove the check alleged was endorsed
4) Indiegogo said about a check sent in April and nowadays, we are in July
Conclusion
We request that Indiegogo refund the money immediately either by check or deposit into the same account he had received it.
Thank you
