Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/09/08) */
Indiegogo provides an open crowdfunding platform permitting funds to be raised for a wide range of projects in accordance with our Terms of Use (www.indiegogo.com/about/terms). Campaigns are run by their individual campaign owner's and not by...

Indiegogo. Indiegogo does not manage campaigns, nor does Indiegogo offer perks. Instead, all perks are offers made by Campaign Owners, and we recommend to any contributor who has questions about a campaign's offerings or refund request that they make inquires of the campaign owner.
People can raise money for various things, and be at various stages of their project. Contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made project. Like anyone contributing to an early-stage project, you accept the risk that the project might not come to fruition. Again, Indiegogo does not make claims or verify that a "campaign owner will deliver perks or that contributions will be used as described on the campaign." The decision to contribute to any campaign is in the sole determination of the contributor and their evaluation of the campaign, not Indiegogo. We recommend that each contributor go through their own vetting process before they decide to contribute. We have compiled a list of how to evaluate a campaign, as a good starting point: https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/XXXXXX-How-to-Evaluate-a-Campaig... /> Regarding this customer's refund, the refund was not issued by Indiegogo and instead, any refunds are from the campaign owner. In this instance, as the campaign owner issued this refund, if this customer is not satisfied with the amount or method of the refund they will need to resolve this dispute with the campaign owner, directly. Indiegogo is not able to mediate disputes, including those over refunds.
We wish this customer the best of luck in resolving this dispute with the campaign owner, in question.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/09/14) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Indiegogo takes a percentage of the money.
The amount of "work" they have to do is the same. If there is no product delivered and a refund is done after 18 months!!! why should indiegogo still keep their % instead of a minimum fee (including some profit)
More and more people are now wanting to be refunded. I contacted Indiegogo in the beginning of this project about technical facts about this project which made it impossible to ever emerge. their basic answer "we will wait and see" so advance 18 months, none of the products of this project has been delivered, obviously it is a scam. The company portrait itself to be in Texas, but all the money was transfered to [redacted] (by Indiegogo!!!)
Indiegogo takes absolutely no responsibility in this (and other ) projects and should imho be held responsible for aiding and abetting scammers through false crowdsourcinf projects.

We understand that this customer has additional thoughts to add.
As has been previously outlined, Indiegogo is an open platform and the decision to contribute to any campaign is in the sole determination of the contributor and their evaluation of the campaign, not Indiegogo. We recommend that each contributor go through their own vetting process before they decide to contribute. Our Terms of Use (www.indiegogo.com/about/terms) outlines the following:
"Indiegogo is an online crowdfunding venue for people and entities seeking to raise funds for their own Campaigns and to contribute to the Campaigns of others. Campaign Owners can offer gifts or rewards in the form of tangible items or intangible services (collectively, "Perks") to Contributors. Perks are not offered for sale. Indiegogo makes no representations about the quality, safety, morality or legality of any Campaign, Perk or Contribution or the truth or accuracy of User Content (as defined below) posted on the Services. Indiegogo does not represent that Campaign Owners will deliver Perks or that Contributions will be used as described in the Campaign. Users use the Services at their own risk."
Finally, with regard to this customer's request for a refund, as the funds for this contribution has already been disbursed to the campaign owner, Indiegogo can no longer issue a refund. Our refund policy is outlined here: https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/XXXXXX
If this contributor is interested in pursuing a refund, they will need to work with the campaign owner, directly. We have previously provided this contributor with the campaign owner's contact information in an effort to facilitate communication.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2015/09/25) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Indiegogo hides behind it's rules.
I contacted them about the technical impossibility of this product to ever be released on the market. It would not be compliant with the NEC (national electric code) They didn't investigate, they just waited. They had their part of the lute.
I say they are aiding and abetting for scammers. They should be the organisation to keep track of things. In my case I got reimbursed for the majority but not the part that Indiegogo took. I would like to be reimbursed for that part to by indiegogo. I made than very clear. So referring back to the party involved is cheap. You are the enabler, you say you are not responsible. I say you are when someone points out that the project is not viable and doesn't deliver after 18 months!

I was a contributor to one of their promoted campaigns - the sProjector. I invested over $200. Campaign backers received their last update from the project over 6 months ago. This is apparently a scam, and over 3,200 contributors to this campaign which netted the project a total sum of $605,452 for the scammers, are apparently not going to receive the product they backed, nor are any of us getting our money back. Indiegogo is also apparently "not responsible", which is totally unacceptable. I have filed a complaint with the FBI In addition - I have backed a number of other projects. The ones where I have received the product are typically months, and sometimes years behind schedule, meaning they have use of investor's money but it takes forever to receive products. I am warning people to never back any project on Indiegogo - yo'll either wait an absurd amount of time to get anything for your investment, or you'll lose your money completely!

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: The account number was provided the day the account was set up we then provided again upon their request. I was contacted after 15 business days the money would be deposited into the account. I was then emailed and told they were researching our email verification. It appeared they were stalling. After 20  days we contacted them today we received the generosity funds 33 days later.

e went by what they told us when the funds were not there we contacted them, there is no phone number only an email sometimes I received an answer and sometimes I did not.

Indiegogo is a global crowdfunding platform that empowers people to raise funds for the things that matter to them. As the contributor states in their complaint, contributing to a campaign on Indiegogo is not the same thing as making a purchase...

in a store. People can raise money for various things, and be at various stages of their project. Contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made project. Indiegogo is not able to guarantee that perks will be delivered or deemed satisfactory. The nature of crowdfunding is such that campaigns on Indiegogo are raising funds for work-in-progress projects, ideas, or causes. Contributing to a campaign and claiming a perk on Indiegogo is not the same as buying something online. Because projects may still be in their early stages, many things can happen between the time the project is raising funds and the expected project release date. Like anyone contributing to an early-stage project, you accept the risk that the project might not come to fruition. We have tips on how to evaluate a campaign, as a starting point, in our Help Center: http://support.indiegogo.com/entries/XXXXXXXX-how-to-evaluate-a-campaign.
Contributions made through Indiegogo are transactions that take place between the campaign owner, contributor, and payment processor, and are non-refundable by Indiegogo, as stated in our Terms of Use (www.indiegogo.com/about/terms.) Therefore, we recommend the contributor reach out directly to the campaign owner if they are interested in receiving a refund.
By creating a campaign on Indiegogo, the campaign owner agrees to use funds and fulfill all perks as stated in their campaign. If, for any reason, they are unable to use Contributions as described in their Campaign, they agree to work with the Contributors to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution, which may include refunding their Contributions.

Unfortunately, we have no record of contributions or accounts made from the email address under which this Revdex.com complaint was filed. As such, we are unable to share any further information about the contribution in question. If this customer has questions about a particular campaign who raised funds...

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/06/02) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Indiegogo charged me and took my money. They need to go after their 3rd party approved vendor and make sure I get my refund. It's their responsibility, not mine. Having said that, I did reach out to the 3rd party numerous times and got either a "too bad" answer or no answer at all. This is nothing short of disturbing, bait and switch marketing tactic.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/06/21) */
We understand this customer has additional thoughts on this matter.
We'd like to take a moment to clarify Indiegogo's role. Indiegogo offers an open platform that allows campaign owners to raise funds for their project. In turn contributors can fund projects that they'd like to see come to fruition.
It's important to note, Indiegogo does not run campaigns nor do we offer or fulfill perks, or issue refunds. Instead, the owner of the campaign is the party solely responsible for their unique campaign or fulfilling any perks offered through their campaign. We leave it up to the contributor to make their own judgment (https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/XXXXXX-How-to-Evaluate-a-Campai... about a campaign's merits before making a contribution.
Furthermore, Indiegogo's Terms of Use (https://www.indiegogo.com/about/terms) outlines that contributions are not refundable by Indiegogo:
"Contributions, including the Service Fees portion thereof, are not refundable. If a Campaign Owner is unable to perform on any promise and/or commitment to Contributors (including delivering any Perks), the Campaign Owner will work with the Contributors to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution, which may include the issuance of a refund of Contributions by the Campaign Owner. "
As such, if this contributor has a question about the status of this campaign, would like information about when they can expect to receive their perk, or would like to request a refund, they will need to make inquiries to the campaign owner, directly. Although we are unable to refund the contributor's contribution, we have been in touch with this contributor and have shared the campaign owner's contact information with this contributor in an effort to facilitate communication.

You are the ones who charged my card and you have a 3rd party vendor who you gave my money to who does not care in communicating with me. I did not get my product, will not get my product, and you, the one who charged my credit card, need to refund me.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: the email address on the [redacted] account is [redacted].  Indiegogo has all other details of the purchase including the order number, date, and amount that was taken out of my bank account.  Once again they refuse to address the issue at hand.  Sincerely,[redacted]

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Campaign owner in question is a non-existing person. There is absolutely no way to reach this person (believe me, I tried!).
My main concern with this is the fact that IndieGogo refuses to take any responsibility. They just keep pointing to the Terms of Use and refuse to take any action. They should take measures against crowdfunding scams on the IndieGogo website, Right now I get a feeling they don't care. They take their part of the money and for the rest it's the problem of the contributors who fell for the scam.
That's not how you treat customers! And it's not how other crowdfunding platforms operate. They do take measures to prevent crowdfunding scams from happening and if they do happen (naturally it's impossible to prevent any scam from happening) they take every possible action to help contributors. IndieGogo however still hasn't done anything. They didn't even take the time to inform the contributors about the scam. Most of the contributors don't even know yet their money was stolen....
Do something about this! For me IndieGogo has proven to be a totally unreliable platform for crowdfunding. Until this has been resolved I will never use IndieGogo again and will advise everyone else to do the same.
Regards,

In order to maintain the openness of our platform while protecting the security of our users, Indiegogo uses a proprietary fraud detection algorithm to quickly catch violations or unwanted behavior on our platform. Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:

I already outlined in detail using their terms of use how the campaigner is breaking those terms, which makes [redacted] responsible to do something because the terms of use are an agreement to which you can only use the [redacted] platform to raise money if those terms are followed, and they have been broken. [redacted] stated that if the campaign is breaking the rules they will remove it, which they haven't done. ** is still trying to solicit money out of people, he just sent an update to the campaign 2 days ago trying to have people reserve their rooms and buy tickets for an event (an event that originally was supposed to be included in the first ticket purchase). This is illegal behavior all around. [redacted] is facilitating it, making them the money laundering step of the criminal activity and refusing to stand by their own terms of use when someone blatantly violates them. This is not ok. That is proof that the terms of use aren't actually being used as legally binding rules but are really just there for show. I have attempted to continue contacting [redacted] myself directly, but they are now ignoring my messages and marking them as "solved" without responding. [redacted] makes 5% off of campaign funds raised, meaning they made $890 off of this campaign. That is illegally acquired profit. None of this is acceptable. I want my money back. [redacted], another backer of this campaign, was refunded by Indiegogo when she contacted them after ** closed the campaign when it was coming to light to be a scam, just as I am doing now. I expect the same treatment and that my money that they have the authority to give back is refunded to me soon. They can claim that they don't handle the money themselves, but because ** has broken the terms of use, as I have already outlined in a previous email through [redacted] and to them directly (which I sent twice because it is being ignored), they have the authority and ability to charge him that money and then pay it to me.  I am not letting this go, it is unacceptable.
Sincerely,[redacted]

We appreciate this customer's response, as well as their feedback on their experience.
To be clear, our Trust and Safety Team has been in touch, has clarified our position, and has refunded all Backers. However, we'll be sure to share this feedback in terms of the response time, along to our Trust and Safety Team.
We are happy the issue has been resolved, and we wish this customer the best of luck.

I participated in the "[redacted]" [redacted] project through Indiegogo. After a year of delays and excuses without any signs of actual progress from the project owner, it's fairly clear nothing will come of my "investment." While I understand there's a level of risk in any investment, I expect a crowdfounding intermediatary such as Indiegogo to provide some level of support in cases of probable fraud.

Instead, Indiegogo updated their terms of service to wash their hands of any such requirement (a web search will find articles in major publications on this topic). This summer I requested my bank reverse the charge made to pay for my invesment on this project on basis of fraud and no product shipped within timeframe stated at time of purchase. Indiegogo in turn disputed my reversal request, and got the bank to deny it.

Keep this in mind when you participate on Indiegogo.

I highly doubt I will ever fund a project via Indiegogo in the future, and I most definitely will not recommend them to others.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 15, 2015/11/30) */
Indiegogo supplied useless contact information that do not exist! Nanoplug contact information for a "Serbian" group who are not interested in replying as they have robbed the deaf community of a quarter of a million dollars with Indiegogo's stamp of approval.
Indiegogo were red flagged about this campaign by other deaf participants long before my money was taken, but Indiegogo failed to act.
Your terms state that you won't support fraudulent campaigns, well you did knowingly.
I have supplied written documentation from the Indiegogo/nanoplug website designer "Jongha Lee" stating it was all a scam!
So please stop constantly trying to provide an email address for nanoplug in an attempt to pass the blame, as you already know full well that the email address is never answered and will never be answered. They are a fraud, and Indiegogo is a participating accomplice.
You allowed this campaign to happen to make money for Indiegogo, you ignored the red flag warning from participants, you failed to get any information from the campaign owner other than an "email" and false address -An unbelievably bad Vetting procedure. Then you allow circa 250k dollars of the deaf community's money to be divided between you.
Indiegogo should be ashamed.
This is a completely unsatisfactory outcome.
Hi
The situation has not been resolved.
Again, thank you for your help with this situation.

Indiegogo Only contacted me via email with a copy and paste answer highlighting there t&c..."Indiegogo is an online crowdfunding venue for people and entities seeking to raise funds etc".
As they have now done once again as a reply to my prior responce on Revdex.com.
Indiegogo have not once answered to a direct criticism OR question regarding this fraudulent case, they constantly evade any direct answering in every regard.
1. They failed to Vet the scam group calling themselves Nanoplug.
2. They still fail to admit that $250,000 of hearing impaired clients money have today NO sign of the product, or any product at all. Yet Indiegogo profited from this fraud.
3. Failed to close down a "product" that never went into production, testing, or any patent application(YES I checked). So yes, this is fraud.Your T&C do not protect you from what the law states as fraud.
4. I ask the question once again, why does Indiegogo continue to say that I should contact Nanoplug..as stated they do not exist. Nanoplug is fictitious.
5. I paid Indiegogo, I now once again request Indiegogo to return my money so I can use it to purchase REAL hearing aids.
Revdex.com -please kindly assist in this matter, as Indiegogo are not interested in being honest or trustworthy, they care only about making money. This much is clear.
regards

Indiegogo is a global crowdfunding platform that empowers people to raise funds for the things that matter to them, and in turn allows backers to help fund ideas they'd like to see come to life. We have no record of this customer attempting to contact Indieogo.com, but perhaps they were...

contacting the campaigner, directly. Unfortunately indiegogo does not have insight into this as we do not run campaigns nor are we involved in creating or shipping out perks.

It is important to note that the nature of crowdfunding ([redacted]) is that contributing to a campaign on Indiegogo is not the same thing as making a purchase in a store. People can raise money for various things, and be at various stages of their project. Contributors are backing an idea, not purchasing a pre-made project or item. Like anyone contributing to an early-stage project, you accept the risk that the project might experience delays, changes to their original vision, or may not come to fruition. Indiegogo is not able to guarantee that perks will be fulfilled or that, if fulfilled, the Backer will find them satisfactory. We have tips on how to evaluate a campaign in our Help Center: [redacted].
Regarding this customer's refund request, our records show that this contributor’s contribution has already been sent to the campaigner, which means that a refund can no longer be issued by Indiegogo. Learn more about our refund policy [redacted], and in our Terms of Use, [redacted].
Therefore, we recommend the contributor reach out directly to the campaign owner if they are interested in receiving a refund.

We also note that this specific campaigner has been posting updates on their campaign page to keep backers up to date on the development of their product and timelines, as well as additional points of contact. We do encourage this backer to review the updates ([redacted]) to stay abreast of developments on this project.
