Review: I received my federal tax return on my JH Preferred Card on January 30, 2015. I used it for several credit purchases with no issue. When I went to use debit, it declined my purchase. I decided to use credit instead, which went through. I called to check my balance before I even left the store. They took out the charge twice. When I called Jackson Hewitt, I sat on hold for 45 min before a person answered and told me they have no idea when the funds will be returned to my card. This has happened to several people. I want my money back now.Desired Settlement: I want the $367 and change returned to my card

Review: Long story short, this company really did a number on us from a "customer service" standpoint. The individual who started our tax preparation paperwork quit on us midstream and did not even bother to contact us to let us know. Then, when we arrived to his office on the day of our scheduled appointment, the new person did not know the details of our situation and from that point on, we got nothing but the run-around. We wasted a lot of time and I even took days off from work to try and get our tax forms completed. To make matter worse, the 850KOA radio commercial that made me decide to choose Jackson Hewitt announced that JH was offering a $100 e-gift card to [redacted] if we had out taxes done through them. At the end of the day, we only received a $50 gift card. That is/was FALSE ADVERTISING plain and simple.

Product_Or_Service: Income tax preparationDesired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

An additional $50 gift card for the "false" advertisement and for all of the unnecessary stress and anxiety that they put us through especially my dear wife and for the time that I took off work with NO pay!!!

Business

Response:

Please be advised - the claim of false advertising in not an appropriate comment.Towards the end of the tax season, the promotional offer changed from $50 to $100 gift card; and then back again. We will provide an additional $50 Gift Card - as a token of our appreciation; and as an apology for your inconvenience.

Review: I had my taxes done by Jackson Hewitt in Evanstan WY by a very unprofessional tax professional. When our tax return didn't come in we checked its status and it wasn't even submitted the only thing that was submitted was the form autherizing them to collect their fee from the tax return, than the regional manager told us that they were not correct and offered to correct them, with out the time or confidence in there service I chose to take them to another tax professional and the manager assured me there would be no charge. [redacted] in Kemmerer WY did my taxes and checked the copy from Jackson Hewitt and confirmed that they were very incorrect. On July 9 a representative from Jackson Hewitt called and told me we owed them $206.Desired Settlement: For Jackson Hewitt not to bill me for services I never received.

Review: We purchased their Gold Guarantee which is supposed to cover any mistakes made on their part. We was informed by preparer [redacted] that my wife's sociale security and bank interest was non-taxable and she threw statements in trash. I was notified by IRS Feb. 2015 it needed to be claimed, resulting in a $1,545 dollar mistake. They, jackson hewitt, told me to pay it. This is why we purchased their insurance. Desired Settlement: Honor their Gold Guarantee and pay for their mistake.

Review: Brought papers necessary for filing taxes, clerk dismissed the 1095 A form from Health Ins [redacted]etplace as not necessary; and then neglected to tell me the charge amount for filing the short form which she estimated at $100.00; the charge amount was 316.00 even though I asked for a charge amount. After the taxes were complete I took my checkbook out to pay for the services and the clerk stated "I'll just take the charges from your refund". Upon arriving home I saw the charges, which were extremely higher then the clerk estimated showed 49.95 extra charge for having my charges taken out of the refund. Something the clerk never informed me of. I had my checkbook out on the desk. I called the office immediately the same day and they refused to take off the additional charge. I have called Jackson Hewitt numerous times with no resolve, calls are never returned. I filled out the on line survey, with all my complaints and said yes to the question, Would you like a call back concerning this complaint. I raved a letter from the IRS requesting the aforementioned 1095 A form the clerk denied needing. It has been one month now and no resolve and I have not received the 50.00 gift certificate promised for Walmart. This certificate is promised on Hewlett's commercials and adds and by their clerks. This company has awful customer service and deceit with the clerks and their advertisements. Their charges for service are outrageously high. Not comparable to other tax services.Desired Settlement: A refund of 49.95 for the service of taking their cost from my refund. No explained previously. A $50.00 Walmart certificate A refund of some of the outrageously high charge for a short form filing.

Review: I filed my taxes online with jackson hewitt who claims 100% accuracy. They messed up and refuse to honor their guarantee.

I filed my taxes with Jackson Hewitt free file online. I was quoted a return of $1069. The return was initially rejected because their system didn't recognize my pin, which I knew was correct because I had it in front of me. when I resubmitted the return it still quoted $1069. About five days later I got an email claiming that my refund was approved but when I went to print the paperwork it stated that I was only to receive $212. I contacted Jackson Hewitt via livechat because that was my only option as an online customer. I was told that it was system glitch and I was still to receive the original amount. After waiting two weeks and hearing nothing and not being able to check the status of my refund I called the IRS and was told that there was a mathematical error on my return and I was only receiving $212 dollars. Jackson Hewitt's website says that they have a 100% guarantee but they refused to give me a phone number or any type of customer service. I have been on the phone trying to get help with numbers I have found online, I have used the live chat, and I have called [redacted] because they have stands in the stores to try to get help with no results. I made a [redacted] comment and was contacted by someone who claimed to be from Jackson Hewitt who asked me for sensitive identity information via [redacted] I refused and used the chat to speak to someone who claimed they put in a ticket to a supervisor that was to email me back within 24 hours. I have not heard from anyone. Whenever I do manage to speak to someone on the phone or live chat they are not helpful, don't care, and more often than not they hang up on me for asking for a supervisor. They are refusing to acknowledge or fix their mistake and this mistake involves a great deal of money. I have called three different customer service numbers and have spoken to three people on live chat with no substantial response. I was told by the person on [redacted] that the head of the department would email me by the close of business yesterday and have heard nothing. I called another number and was told that they would put me in touch with a supervisor and was left on hold for over thirty minutes and then the call disconnected.Desired Settlement: I think that Jackson Hewitt should have to stand behind their guarantee that they have posted on their website and that they should have to pay me the $1069 that I was quoted. They claim that they will back up their work but when they make a mistake no one will own up to it and fix the issue. I have spent the last three days, from nine am until at least six pm trying to resolve this without bringing in another party but they give me no choice. I want the money I was quoted and I want someone to

Response:

[redacted]I have reviewed the details of your case and sincerely apologize for the calculation error that impacted your tax return filed through Jackson Hewitt Online. Since the error resulted in a lower refund amount, and not a balance due to the IRS, the Accuracy Guarantee does not apply. Please see the details in the link below:http://jacksonhewitt.com/In-Store-Tax-Prep/Products-and-Services/The Accuracy Guarantee would cover any penalties and interest incurred by the error, but does not cover differences in refund amounts. If the software calculated properly at the time you filed, the software would have displayed an expected refund amount of $212, which is what you mentioned that the IRS sent you. Once again I apologize, but we would not be able to pay you the difference in refund amounts. We did discuss another type of compensation for the inconvenience, such as a [redacted] Gift Card, but you declined that offer. If you would like to reconsider and accept that offer, please let us know and we will work something out.Thank You,Jim M[redacted], ManagerJackson Hewitt Online Support

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

The link in the message regarding their guarantee states: "Coverage under the Accuracy Guarantee does not apply to the following situations ("Exclusions"):... (ii) your tax refund was reduced or not received as a result of a tax lien, judgment, support order, unpaid student or government-related loans, back taxes, or any other collection activity..."none of these are the reason why my refund amount was lower. Additionally I spoke to a Jackson Hewitt Representative on January 31st (via the live chat feature) who assured me the original dollar amount quoted was correct. (screenshots attached ... I edited out the last four digits of my SSN to protect my personal information)

Response:

[redacted]Again we apologize that this calculation error occurred, but the Accuracy Guarantee specifically states that we will pay any interest or penalties charged due to an error. In your case, this does no apply since there is no balance owed to the IRS that would cause that to be the case. We are acknowledging that an error was made at the time you used our software that caused you to believe you would be getting a higher refund than you were owed. The IRS made the correction and sent you the refund you were due. We offered to send you a [redacted] gift card in the amount of $100, which we would still be happy to do if you're still interested.Jim M[redacted], ManagerJackson Hewitt Online

Review: For the tax years ended December 31, 2010 and December 31, 2011, I paid Jackson Hewitt Tax Services in Dorchester, MA to provide tax preparation services. The employee, Ms. [redacted] had placed fraudulent education credits on both of my tax returns. On June 25, 2012, I was notified by the IRS indicating that they have corrected my 2010 tax return reversing the education credits and are seeking repayment in the amount of $2,610.00. Because this error was on my 2010 tax return, I had another tax preparer take a second look on my 2011 tax return at which time I was placed on notice that another education credit that I was not entitled to was placed on my tax returns. As a result of my amendment of my 2011 Tax Return, the IRS is seeking repayment in the amount of $742.06 as of May 13, 2013. At the time of service, I did not provide Ms. [redacted] with a 1098-T from my financial institution because the financial institutions never provided my with a 1098-T for each year. My education for both years were paid for by means of financial aid grants, therefore I did not incur any out of pocket expenses. On February 22, 2013, I called Customer Service at Jackson Hewitt ([redacted]) to initiate a complaint. On March 26, 2013, I walked into the Jackson Hewitt Year-Round location in Malden, MA to speak with the manager. I provided the manager with a letter and supporting documents in support of my claim and she then forwarded those documents to her regional office located in Bronx, NY. On June 12, 2013, I called back into Customer Service at Jackson Hewitt ([redacted]) to advise them that I had not received a response in regards to my letter of March 26, 2013. I then received a phone call from the manager at the Year-Round office in Malden, MA who then conversed with the Head Office in Bronx, NY and told me to call them and ask for [redacted]. I called [redacted] and she instructed me to file all the documents I had in support of my claim and fax them to her at [redacted]. On July 10, 2013, I faxed the documents over to [redacted]. On July 31, 2013, I called the Jackson Hewitt office in Bronx, NY at [redacted] and asked for [redacted] and was notified that she was on vacation. I spoke with Mr. [redacted] who indicated his title to be "Director of Operations" and asked him if they received my fax of July 10, 2013. He searched through his system and was able to find my fax. I told Mr. [redacted] that I had been waiting for a response in regards to my issue with the IRS and he said that he will personally look at the matter and will need 14 business days to come to a conclusion. On August 13, 2013, I called the Jackson Hewitt office in Bronx NY as I had not heard from Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] indicated to me that he is waiting for additional information from the Malden, MA office and will need an additional 14 business days to conclude is investigation. On August 27, 2013, I received a letter from Mr. [redacted] indicating my misunderstanding in the letter that I received from the IRS, and thanking me for bringing this matter to his attention, as well as referring me to file a complaint with the IRS (Form [redacted]: Tax Preparer Complaint). Mr. [redacted] has offered no resolution to satisfy this outstanding matter by repaying the IRS for the money they are seeking repayment for as well as all penalties and interest. Mr. [redacted] is being oblivious to my concerns and has not accepted responsibility of his employee's actions that have severely damaged my relationship with the IRS.Desired Settlement: I would like Jackson Hewitt to accept responsibility of their employees fraudulent tax practices and to refund all monies from the tax preparation services.

Review: In January, I had my taxes done by an independent contractor in the [redacted] working under Jackson and Hewitt. The tax preparation consultant advised me to claim head of house hold after I told her that per divorce decree, I was only to claim my daughter every other year. She told me this has nothing to do with the child tax credit and because I was the primary care taker, I was still allowed to claim this. My ex-husband soon after went to file his taxes and was told he was unable to do so because I had claimed head of household. [redacted], the manager made an amended return to fix the issue so he could file but long behold, I now owe several thousands of dollars to the IRS, my ex- filed a contempt order and I have been asking for SEVERAL months now for a letter stating that this was not my fault to show to the court and I wanted a refund of the amount I paid them to prepare. The dodge my phone calls when I call, they never call me back or give me direct numbers, I cant even find a higher up to complain to because no information is given out other than their hub phone number that has one attendant. Today, I called again, and was advised that she would get back to me. This is a non-stop game! Please help me come to a resolution in this matter.

Review: I filed a tax return with Jackson Hewitt for the 2010 and 2011 tax years and in addition to paying for my tax preparation I paid for the Gold Guarantee so if I was audited I would not be responsible for the mistakes and subsequent bill. I was audited by the state of Virginia for the 2010 tax year. I provided all paperwork to Jackson Hewitt at the beginning of September 2013. I did not receive a check from them until January 2014. The Gold Guarantee has a pay out agreement of 30 days. Additionally I received abominable customer service throughout the process. My phone calls were not returned. My emails were not returned. No one followed up with me on the status of the claim and I was repeatedly told that 'these things just take a while', even though the contract says 30 days. The office I was dealing with has a staff that apparently only works Mondays, is always in meetings and doesn't know who their bosses are as they could never transfer me to them or give me contact information for them. I am still struggling to get complete payment due to interest owed to the state of Virginia and am still struggling to amend the 2011 tax year as they were filed identically.Desired Settlement: First and foremost, I would like an apology. Additionally, I would like a refund of my tax prep fees for both 2010 and 2011 due to the failure to uphold the agreement and the poor customer service I have received.

Review: On September 28, 20013, I registered for an online tax course with Jackson-Hewitt. On October 7th, the first day of the class, I tried to begin the modules but my account showed that I wasn't enrolled in any classes. After a series of emails back and forth between me and the instructor, where she kept telling me to try back later, I was told that a [redacted] would be in touch with me. At 3pm that day, [redacted] called me. She asked me to log out and log back in, and when I said the site showed still that I was not enrolled in any courses, she told me to give her my username and password. I responded that I would change my password quickly and give that new password to her. At that point, she yelled at me, saying she is both the head of HR and the manager and that she didnt have time to deal with me, as she oversees many people. I said that I use that same passwords for many accounts and was not comfortable giving that to anybody else. She told me that since she was the head of HR, she was going to mark my account with a note about my bad attitude and keep that in mind if I ever apply for a job with Jackson-Hewitt. I responded that I would not be applying for a job with this company, which was met with more yelling about why I had even enrolled in the course. After more yelling and bullying, I asked her to stop yelling and said that I was frustrated because she was telling me how she didnt even have time for me, to which she denied as she yelled some more. I asked for a refund several times, but I was ignored as she continued to yell over me and then she actually hung up on me. She did call me back later, saying "now that we've both had some time to calm down, we can talk." I'd like to point out that I was even toned on the phone the entire time with her, the only person yelling or being rude was [redacted]. I asked for a refund again and was told that she would look into it and get back to me. Neither she, nor any other representative of the company, has gotten back to me about the refund. Attempting to log in again after the last phone call with [redacted] showed that my account has been disabled. At this point, its only fair and reasonable that I should be refunded for the course that I never had access to. I did contact Jackson Hewitts corporate office with my request for a refund, but was told that they could only submit an incident report to the local office, which would be sent within 7 days and that I might then hear back from that local office. For reference, that number is Incident Report 131007-000061. I called back today and was told by their representative that [redacted], CCO Area Manager, had left a message for me so the case was closed. Today is now October 16th and no refund has been issued by Jackson-Hewitt.Desired Settlement: Refund of $79.00

I contacted [redacted]e back by attempting 4 more phone calls, leaving a message, and emailing her, none of which I got any response two. It has been two weeks since I requested a refund both through corporate and by asking Melisa to refund the class, as well as leaving a message for [redacted]e all on the 7th of October. It has already been two weeks and since then, which is an excessive amount of time to be holding my money. I'll close the case after I see the refund.

Review: On 2/18/2014, my husband and I had our taxes done at Jackson Hewitt inside [redacted] in Horseheads NY. I had a 1pm appointment. When we arrived about half hour early our tax professional, [redacted], took us right in. This was at 12:30pm. After about 2 hours of [redacted] stumbling through the computer screens and having to redo and re-input our information at least 3 times we were finally done. With a refund of around $500. This struck me as odd considering this was my first year receiving social security disability benefits and I had gotten paid in big chunks. I had been worried for months that I was going to owe the IRS a huge amount. When I questioned [redacted] about it she said it was fine because she just didn't put in my SSD as income. (I brought her the form I received in the mail and showed it to her multiple times to remind her I had it). I get SSD for a reason, I'm sick, and after 2 hours of messing with this and no one in the office to ask, I said fine and signed the papers so I could finally go home. I trusted that as a tax professional she was doing what was legal and right and there was no problem. I went home and I still didn't feel that it was right. I had [redacted] do a free double check of [redacted]'s work. Not only did she not put in my SSD paper, she didn't put in my nor my husbands student loan interest papers. (which again I reminded her of multiple times). Not only should I not have gotten a refund, I do owe the IRS this year. So, I'm out the $146 Jackson Hewitt charged me for their prep, I'm also out the $129 I had to pay [redacted] to fix my return and $22 I had to pay the post office to send 2 amended state returns and an amended federal. I have reached out to Jackson Hewitt. Spoke to [redacted] the District manager. She had me running all over town to bring paperwork to her at whatever location she was at that day, again, I'm sick! Spoke to [redacted] the area manager and all they can do for me is refund $114 for there fees and by check which will take 4 weeks min.Desired Settlement: The only thing that will make this right is to refund the $146 I paid Jackson Hewitt, the $129 I had to pay [redacted] to fix their mistakes and not have it take a minimum of 4 weeks. Because I trusted their "tax professional" I need my money back to pay the IRS and I'm sure they don't want to wait 4 weeks. The Area manager [redacted] was extremely condescending, unhelpful and just plain unprofessional. I never once heard I'm sorry, I take responsibility. I apologize. Nothing. She had no accountability for her people, brand, or business. I am disgusted by the lack of customer service in this situation.

JACKSON HEWITT TAX SERVICE

Review: I'm going to my local IRS office in the morning to file a fraud complaint against a Jackson Hewitt branch in Tucson, AZ.According to them my child does not have a father and they fraudulently claimed additional deductions in order to generate the funds needed to pay for their services. I have not cashed the checks I received. When I went back I was told they would charge me additional money to correct it. Because my refund will be significantly less, I will actually owe them an additional $150 more than the amount of the refund I should be getting if they correct it for me. They refused to refund the amount they charged me to file incorrectly. At the time the information was filed I was given a $100 ecard for [redacted].I did not work the full year. I did not work full time. I was paid minimum wage. I do have a child that was 14 months old at the time. I do live with the child's father who is supposed to be claiming her this year which I made clear at the time. In the sections labeled Taxpayers With a Child and Due Diligence Requirements the preparer claims that I do not know of another person that can claim to be my child's parent or that lived with my child for over half of 2014 and therefore the due diligence questioned is marked 'does not apply'. I should get $405. So far they have charged me $380.95 and filed for a $1,137 return for which they have been paid. To file my amendment they want to charge me and additional $150 that I must pay prior to filing the amendment for me.Desired Settlement: Fraud charges and a refund.

We will be happy to review the details of the tax return filing with this complainant. If the complainant wishes to file a fraud claim with the IRS, we may need to wait for correspondence from the IRS before we can proceed to review this matter. We cannot discuss details of a tax return with any third party, including the Revdex.com; however, in general terms the tax payer, or in this case, the complainant is generally responsible for any items that are included on the tax return filing. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: I made an appointment with one of your tax return professionals to have my 2014 taxes done, due to my uncertainty about how the "affordable care act" would affect my return. I did not think I would need to be worried about the honesty and integrity of said "professional" as I perceived both Jackson Hewitt and Walmart to be reputable companies who would not employ someone who would deceive their customers. So after waiting over an hour past my appointment time, I am finally seen at which time I inquired what the cost of preparing my simple return would be. Her response was "well everyone's fees are different depending on their situation, so let's get started and we'll see." That was fine, but was absolutely shocked when she quoted a fee of almost $400. She told me it was so high because of the affordable care act and also because of my relatively new enrollment in the employee stock purchase plan at work. This price was not quoted until after she had completed the return and since I didn't know any better, and also felt somewhat obligated since she had already prepared the return, I left. At work that night; however, I asked my co-workers if they had noticed a huge increase in the price of tax prep. this year due to the reasons she had stated. This is when I found out that your employee had basically lied to my face because I had medical coverage the entire time, so that should not have affected the fees. Also, I only recently signed up for the employee stock purchase plan at work and only contribute $20/paycheck to it and had received no dividends from it, so that should not have caused the unusually high fees. My taxes are very straightforward as I am single with no dependents and have only one W-2 and one deduction ($800 in student loan interest). I contacted customer support and complained and was put in touch with Client Care Manager [redacted] ([redacted]). She promised that she would send out a check for $75 to me by the end of May as recompense. I never received said check.Desired Settlement: [redacted] never explained why her employee would lie to my face nor did she apologize. She said only that she would speak with the employee and that a check for $75 would be mailed to me. I did not feel satisfied with this, but figured I would accept this resolution just to be done with the issue, but now that she didn't keep her word, I would like to be refunded at least 1/2 of the fees I was fraudulently charged. I am shocked at the dishonesty of the employees of this supposedly reputable co.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that it is acceptable that they are looking into the matter; though it is not yet resolved. I am also concerned that this employee has access to my social security # and personal information; for if she felt no qualms in lying to my face, what else might she decide to do in retribution over this dispute or just to further her own personal gain?
