Review: Taxes were filed by Jackson Hewitt, 2012, the preparer made a mistake, I get a letter from IRS in 2014 that I owe over $3,000, I contact Jackson Hewitt in OCT 2014 about this issue, after two month I get a call from some woman in Erie, Pa. stating I did not buy the gold contract the only thing they will pay is the interest, well it keeps going up, I have to make monthly payments, retired. She claimed she would send in the paper work, I still have not heard nothing from them. I find this very unacceptable for a so called business.Desired Settlement: What they owe me.

Review: I called on the phone to ask how much my taxes would cost, she said $ for federal, so I made an appointment. After she filed my taxes the total cost was over $300. That's a total bait and switch. She never once went over the charges with me.I said I can't afford that so I stood up and asked for my paperwork back because I was going to go home and just have my boyfriend do my taxes. She said no, you can't do that I've already started your taxes, you will have to pay, we can take ot out of your tax refund. So I thought I had no choice and sat back down, signed the paperwork and them she showed me the price sheet, she never showed it to me when I got there. As soon as I sat down I told her that I was the one who called and I was glad it was only $40. Never corrected me. the total fee because I ended up taking from my return was $365.95. After I came home I to,d my boyfriend and we immediately went back and she said the list is here, she could have looked it over herself, but it was pushed off to the side and I never saw it, there were customers there who thought it was $40 also, and they immediately left. Lucky for them. When I called the manager he told me that he thinks I'm making it all up that his employee would never tell me that I couldn't leave. But she did, as a matter of a fact she told me twice that I had to finish with her even though I had no signature yet.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund. I could have gone home and had my boyfriend do it for free, but she told me because it was already started through her (with no signature until after) that no one else could file it so I had to finish with her and pay. When I called and heard $40 for federal I figured $40 was good and I wouldn't have to bother my boyfriend.

Review: I went to jackson hewitt to do my 2015 tax return. I chose them because they offered a $750 cash advance and also a instant $50 git card. I filed on January 25 2016 and was approved for the loan on January 26. After 2 days of not getting the loan, which generally only takes 2 hours I called them. I spent the next 2 weeks and over 15 hours on the phone with my local store manager and different customer service representative and they all have different answers in regards to where my money was. I gave been promised a call back multiple times and in 3 weeks have still not recieved one. They refuse to give me a cooperate number. The whole issue they say began one they claimed the card the provided me was defected there fore the $750 was flipped to check but they couldn't find the check. Finally on February 5th I received a check in the mail for the $750, I deposited it that day. On February 9 th the check was canceled by the company that issued it, leaving my acount over withdrawn with fees. I have now recieved my federal return and the $750 cash advance was taking out even though I never received it and now they aren't trying to give me my money even though they are aware I never received it. I was also told that I deserved my tax preparer fee back for the inconvenience and false advertisement. At this point I haven't received my money back, the instant $50 gift card, and now they have stolen $750 from me. I have no real way to contact any body and the will not ever call me back. I'm not really sure what to do.Desired Settlement: I would like the $750 that was taken from my federal return, the $50 gift card I was promised and my tax preparer fee for this inconvenience.

I am rejecting this response because:

I have contacted their customer service center over 25 times, but they refuse to give the number to someone who can help me. Although some of them attempted to help with no results, many hung up on me. I have spoke to my local store manager Jan on several occasions, I have actually seen her contact this district manager in Binghamton that was referenced to in their response and he has never contacted me or had Jan contact me to resolve the problem. This isn't something that just happened I have been complaining and trying to get my money for 3 weeks. I have taking all the proper steps before I contacted Revdex.com. If even one person from the Jackson Hewitt company would've contacted me back like I was told several times they would over the last 3 weeks, this may have been avoided. All I wanted was an explanation to why this was happening to me and how they were going to fix it. Instead I was ignored by all parties including my local store. It would've been nice to know that someone was trying to fix this and still today I have had no contact with any person from jackson hewitt apologizing or telling me that they are going to get my money back.

Review: I filed my return on January 20 at my local office. From the beginning it was all unorganized. They didn't know specifics to their loan program it was literally a trial and error. I did get the loan the same day I filed. It is now February 5 and I still have not received my return. The IRS gave me a DDD February 4. Called Jackson Hewitt to be on hold for over 20 minutes to speak to a human for her to get snippy. Her name was Michele. Saying "Well I can't just make your money appear". Wow are you kidding me. I never asked that. I just asked why my funds have not been received. This agent actually hung up on me. Spoke to an area manager. What a joke. Was told you might get it later today. Well, I did not. Its now Feb 5th and still no return. Interesting to point out their website says based on experience most customers receive their returns in 10 days or less. Then when calling I hear a recording saying the same thing however it said 14 days. Well, day 16 for me. No money. Im told because I chose the JH Preferred Prepaid card that is holding up funds. Regardless, I paid $300 for this return. To not be updated, treated like dirt (hung up on), and to not receive my money yet is ridiculous. This was my first year at Jackson Hewitt and I can promise it will be my last and only.Desired Settlement: Honestly, I feel like I deserve a refund. It honestly has nothing to do with the money or I wouldn't have accepted to pay the ridiculous fees to begin with. But, 16 days still no money coupled with the unbelievably terrible Customer Service, I think I'm well in line to request a refund. Whatever the outcome here, I will not ever return to Jackson Hewitt. I will file for $0 with Turbo Tax just as I have for the last several years.

Review: We filed our 2014 taxes on January 31,2015 with Jackson Hewitt and an error was made on the Tax Preparers end. My wife paid quarterly taxes in the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2014. Copies were provided to the tax preparer. Once everything was completed our Federal Refund was set at $3,170. After waiting the 21 days as we were told we still had not received our refund. We contacted Jackson Hewitt and were told there was nothing they could do we would have to contact the IRS ourselves. We did just that and found that our refund was being looked at because there were 4 estimated tax payments submitted and there were only two found in their system. I explained that my wife only paid in twice and they proceeded to tell me that 4 were submitted so they would have to correct the issue and we would only be receiving 943.30 back . I contacted Jackson Hewitt and told them that the Tax Preparer had in fact made an error and doubled the estimated tax payment when entering our information. We discussed that I had signed the GOLD GUARANTEE and were still guaranteed the higher amount refund. The Gold Guarantee Certificate signed by both my wife and I states that "If due to an error in the preparation of your covered Tax Return you: (1) receive a tax refund from a taxing authority smaller than the refund amount set fourth on your tax return, then Jackson Hewitt Inc. will reimburse you for the net amount of such refund shortfall and/or additional tax liability as the case may be, up to a cumulative total of $5,000 for all Covered Tax Returns). What we signed specifically states we are entitled to be reimbursed. However, after dealing with the Regional office in Oklahoma City since February and being put off several times with different excuses and ignored phone calls we were told today that we are still not getting the reimbursement anytime soon or if ever for that matter.Desired Settlement: We signed the Gold Guarantee Certificate that was offered to us for a reason. It is now May 19th, 2015. There has been ample time to figure things out with the Gold Guarantee Company. Since things have apparently not been resolved between you two we need to be taken care of regardless. We should not be put on the back burner any longer. Jackson Hewitt Inc. needs to take responsibility for this mistake and we need to be reimbursed the refund shortfall totaling $2,226.70 in a timely fashion as I feel we have waited long enough. We have put a lot of time into trying to get this taken care of and it seems that no one at Jackson Hewitt Inc. cares or will give us the time of day. It is very disappointing the awful customer service we have received since day one.

Good Afternoon,

Review: I used Jackson Hewitt to do last years taxes and it cost me $120.00. My taxes consisted of a 1040 form and a out of state tax return for state taxes. My return for last year was done in San Antonio, Texas. This year in Las Vegas, Nevada, my return consists of a 1040 form only. It cost me $286.00 and Jackson Hewitt did less work. Also I was told I would get a $100.00 Walmart gift card for using the services of Jackson Hewitt, no gift card as of this complaint.I was over charged by $160.00. I have mad several attempts to speak with some one at the main office here in Las Vegas, Nevada. All I get is an E-Mail stating some one will contact me and they never do. It is now, March 01, 2015 and I have not been contacted by anyone from Jackson Hewitt. I reached out since 02/18/2015.Desired Settlement: I was over charged $160.00 for less work and want this $160.00 refunded.I want the $100.00 gift card as advertised by Jackson Hewitt and the tax preparer so stated.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

I submitted a complaint in February, 2015 regarding a refund on the cost of the Tax Prep by Jackson Hewett. The ID[redacted] was acknowledge and the issue was to be resolved. To date, I have not received any refund and I placed a call to the area manager, Brian, on 04/22-04/23/2015 with no return call.

Review: I filed a complaint yesterday against this company and I have an update. Three weeks ago when I made my first call requesting a supervisor after having made many previous calls with no help, I was told corporate would get back to me in 24-48 hours and they gave me a reference number. When I called again this week I was told again that corporate would call me, no call came. I called again today and despite calling the "corporate #" I still spoke to someone outside the country! I gave my reference # from 3 wks ago I was told "still pending" they will call today. I have been told this for almost a month! They are shady, dishonest, uncooperative, and run a scam. How is it that no one can correct this or answer any of my questions? I file an American tax return with an "American company" and can't speak to anyone in this company in this country! The employee who did my return clearly had little training my return took over an hour to complete and she kept calling her supervisor to ask questions. Told me she had never before seen a 1095A form and said she "didn't need it" now the IRS is saying it may take another 8 weeks for my return because of her error. No one in this company can tell me where the balance of my state return is which is over 200.00, they charged me 273.00 for this?! My fiance attempted to file his as well and they wanted to charge him what he would have gotten back + 15.00 more to process it!! We said no way. We had both lost our jobs and relied upon this return to pay bills past due but because they messed up we can't and can't even get a straight answer from anyone!Desired Settlement: Asking for a full refund for this awful service given the run around and disreputable practices I've encountered I think its more than fair. Never ever again will I use them and never recommend them either especially now. I want my money back effective immediately.

Review: Jackson Hewitt advertises a 50$ [redacted] card INSTANTLY. When you are to visit a store front, they give you all these prompts on receiving the card and should have it within an hour of your interview. I filed my income taxes January the twenty fourth. As of today February 10, have not received the gift card. As I do not need this card, it is false advertising. I have spoke with them several times, they do not have any answers to my questions, as a tax payer I would expect a "tax professional" to answer any question I may have. Recently, I spoke with the Fort Oglethorpe Store Front Manager, as she laughed when I told her they are not professionals and I shouldn't have to pay tax preparation fess since they are 100% accurate guaranteed, Or your money back! That is not the case with this business, they do not treat their customers with respect, and I personally am very dissatisfied with their loyalty and false advertising!!

Product_Or_Service: Tax Prep FeesDesired Settlement: Desired Settlement: Refund

I would settle for my Tax preparation fees refunded to me, this business is not a 100% accurate, I requested my fees returned to me as the manager laughed on the phone and asked if I was serious? I spoke with her about 3 days ago and she said allow ANOTHER 7-10 business days to receive a check in the mail for the 50$ I was suppose to receive instantly. It has been almost two and a half weeks now that I haven't received my [redacted] card!

Billing or Collection Issues - The company has failed to correct billing errors

Review: On 1-29-2015, I had a tax rep by the name of Jerri C[redacted] prepare my 1040 EZ forms. The advertisements on television had stated that if this business prepared your forms, you were to be given a $50.00 [redacted] gift card. I inquired about this and she confirmed after my taxes were electronically filed, I would be sent an email with a link that I could print out my gift card for immediate use. When I checked my email today and saw that it was not there, I called Jackson Hewitt and was informed that my tax prep fees had to total $150.00 or more and mine were only $130.00 so I was not eligible. At no time, while my taxes were being prepared, was I made aware of this. It was only because of this incentive that I returned to this business this year because they charge a lot more than other tax prep businesses. I feel this is false advertisement on both the commercials on the television and by the tax preparers not relaying this information to the customer at the beginning of the service.Desired Settlement: I want the money that I was charged to have my taxes prepared refunded as I would not have returned to Jackson Hewitt because of their elevated prep fees. Without the offer of the $50.00 gift card, I would have had this service done somewhere else.

Regards,

Review: I have a concern on how Jackson Hewitt does tax returns. They will not allow you to declare the following items on your tax return: 1 car registration 2 donations 2 health insurance premiums 4 doctor office visits 5 prescriptions. They claim it is because the IRS give a standard deduction of $5000 a year. The people that have done my taxes since 1990 allow you to declare itemized deductions and the standard IRS deduction. This is the only tax preparation company,to the best of my knowledge, that does not allow you to declare itemized deductions. I feel that an investigation is warranted to see if they are operating is a legal and proper manner.Desired Settlement: I want them to do the right thing and allow people to declare itemized deductions along with the standard IRS deduction.

Business

Response:

Dear Revdex.com of Trenton, New JerseyThe U.S. tax code for individual income taxes allows taxpayers to either claim the standard deduction or to claim itemized deductions. The standard deduction is determined by filing status and increases each year based on inflation. Itemized deductions include: Medical expenses including health insurance premiums, prescriptions, and doctor, dentist, eye doctor, lab and hospital visits and glasses, contact lenses and other medical equipment. This deduction is limited to the excess medical expenses over 10% of the taxpayer’s AGI. For example if the taxpayer’s AGI is $30,000 and their total medical expenses are $5,000, the will be able to include only $2,000 ($5,000 - ($30,000 x 10%)). Mortgage interest Taxes including real estate taxes, state and local income taxes or sales taxes and personal property taxes but not the cost of registering your vehicle. Charitable contributions Other miscellaneous deductions that are limited similar to the medical expense deductions. These include work related expenses. The tax laws don’t allow taxpayers to claim both the standard deduction and itemized deductions. Taxpayers should choose whichever offers them the largest deduction so they pay the least in taxes. Many times taxpayers are confused about how the choice between itemized deductions and standard deductions work. Mr. Wray can either call his local tax office to address his concerns with them, or provide us with the address of the Jackson Hewitt office he visited. We will then notify them to contact him to discuss his tax return and what would be most beneficial for him. Best Regards,Client Care TeamJackson Hewtt Inc.

Dear Revdex.com of New Jersey. Please be advised that we have received the location information regarding the two Jackson Hewitt offices that Mr. Wray visited, one this year and one last year. Mr. Wray can return to any Jackson Hewitt office nearest to where he lives or works for assistance in the preparation of his tax return. If there is a local office nearby in which Mr. Wray would like to return, we will contact either the owner (if the office is franchised) or the area manager (if the office is Company Owned) and have them contact him directly. As previously stated, we cannot prepare, review or amend tax returns as our Corporate offices in Parsippany, New Jersey does not prepare tax returns. Tax returns are only preapred in the local Jackson Hewitt tax offices. We can only provide general information regarding tax deductions, however each tax situation is as unique as the individual taxpayer. If Mr. Wray would kindly advise us as to which office he would like to return to, we will contact that local office. Best Regards,Client Care Team, Jackson Hewitt Inc.

Review: Jackson Hewitt prepared taxes on my personal business and on several trusts within my family. Their work was slow and by the time we sent in our taxes, the trusts had already received late fees. They had promised to pay these if this happened. Fees accumulated on the trusts, and despite dozens of phone calls and unreturned emails, we got no response. Furthermore, the business return was done incorrectly and warranted a letter from the IRS requesting more information. This has not been addressed either.Desired Settlement: I feel with the amount of headache derived from shoddy workmanship, we should be refunded for the work done on our taxes and Jackson Hewitt should finish the job ASAP, as well as pay any and all fees associated with aforementioned shoddy workmanship.

[redacted]First, we want to thank you for using Jackson Hewitt Online to prepare and file your own taxes. We sincerely appreciate your business and apologize for any confusion caused by our advertising. As you can see by the screen shots on the attached document, the $20 offer is for those who file their own taxes online, and the $50 offer is for those who have one of our Tax Pros prepare their taxes at one of our physical locations. The offer for the offices is higher since the tax prep fees can be anywhere from $100 - $300, while the fees for using Jackson Hewitt Online average less than $60.Jim M[redacted], ManagerJackson Hewitt Online

Review: Jackson Hewitt promises a $50 gift card from [redacted] when you file your taxes with them. This is inaccurate informations do false advertisement. The advertisement and the agents have told me that the gift card is immediate. I have been waiting 3 weeks I have called and spoken with a manager named Pamela, employee named Cipra and another woman by the name of Michelle and they all tell me they will call me back and I get no response. They said they have sent e-mail addressing the situation and someone from corporate will call me and again still no response. When I call customer service they tell me sorry I only work in a call center and they don't have access to information. They tell me there has been issues with people receiving the gift card and all they tell me is they will take my name and number and someone will get back to me. This is not accurate information and they are misleading. I have paid this company $450 to file my taxes and they are not being ethical at all. They are lying about the products they are promising.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: I went to Jackson Hewitt on grant/west Delavan and I left my taxes to be completed because I had to leave for a doctor appointment. The tax rep asked me if I was coming back later on that day 1/28/14 or the next day on 1/29/14. I said later on before close of business and she said fine she would have it ready for review and for me to sign. I returned later on that evening however the other tax rep couldn't find my tax envelope folder no where in that office and she stated for me to leave my phone number and she would call me tomorrow when the rep who did my taxes comes in because she must of took my folder home. So I called the next day to check on the status of my folder and the rep said she has it come in to sign. So I came in signed for my taxes and when I got home to review my taxes thoroughly to see why my refund was so low from what was stated to me in the office and I noticed I was charged $542.90 for my taxes because two different people completed it. Now I have no problem paying the tax preparation however it's extremely higher then last yr and year before. I always paid around $245. Nothing over $400. My taxes have stayed the same since I been with them 1 yr ago.Desired Settlement: I would like Jackson Hewitt to adjust my tax preparation fee and refund me the difference.
