Lemon Squad Auto Inspections Reviews (%countItem)

This is a review of Lemon Squad in general. My inspection was performed in Indiana - not Chicago.

Don't waste your money. Lemon Squad checked out a car for me and after bringing it home I found I had 2,800 dollars of work required.

I purchased a car out of state so I could not see it personally. So, I decided to use Lemon Squad. The car looked great but there was a note in the CARFAX about vibration being checked. I had driven a few of the cars before and all had some level of vibration during acceleration. So, I was not overly concerned but asked specifically that the technician check this out. I also asked that any cosmetic defects be photographed.

The tech drove the car and did not find any vibration according to his report. He also noted that there were some scratches consistent with age specifically that there were some scratches under the front bumper that you needed to bend down to see.

Based on the report I drove down to see the car (7 hours). When I got there the car looked good, but, there were a number of visible scratches on the front bumper and you didn't need to bend down to see them. I was ok with that but it would have been nice to have the pictures of this so that I could have made the decision before driving down.

Driving the car I found that there was vibration during acceleration. It was a bit worse than what I had seen but given the clean bill of health I got from Lemon Squad I decided to take the car.

When I brought it home I had a nagging feeling that something was not quite right. So, I brought the car into a local mechanic. He found the following:

1. The top engine mount was leaking hydraulic fluid and needed to be replaced.
2. A control arm bushing was torn and a ball joint needed to be replaced (you replace them in pairs - right and left typically).
3. The CV joints had been replaced with aftermarket units and they were out of balance causing the vibration - this is a manufacturing issue.
4. The timing belt nee

I have read through your email that you sent in and the partial complaint that was left here on the Revdex.com. As per the terms and conditions that you read and agreed to when you placed your order with us on 9/22/19, you have 14 days to let us know of any issues. You reached out to us on 10/23/19, 31 days after your order was placed and outside of the 14 day window that is stated in the terms. Those terms and conditions also state that Lemon Squad is NOT the seller of the vehicle and as such, Lemon Squad will not be refunding you the purchase price of the vehicle. This is a 13 year old vehicle with over 83K miles on it. A certain amount of wear is expected with a vehicle of this age and mileage. The report does state that there are misc. scratches around the vehicle, this is normal for the age and mileage. Our sample reports do not show that we report on the replacement of the timing belt. As all vehicles are different, that is something that you would need to check with your seller or manufacturer about, that isn't anything that we check. A lift was not made available for the inspector to put the vehicle on since your seller was a private individual. The inspector looked underneath the vehicle and did not see any issues with the ball joints. When the seller's wife drove the vehicle, she drove the vehicle both slowly and up to 80 MPH. No abnormal vibrations or noises were noted during the test drive. We didn’t see any hydraulic fluid on the motor and we didn’t notice any excessive vibrations during the test drive to lead us to believe that there was an issue with the motor mount. It is possible that somebody had cleaned the motor prior to arrival. We can only report on issues that present themselves during our time with the vehicle. If an issue doesn’t present itself, we can’t report on it. We wish you luck with your vehicle.

Customer Response • Oct 28, 2019

I am rejecting this response because:

1. The issues that were not reported cost me 2,800 dollars in repairs within 3 weeks of the inspection.

2. The items that were not caught by the inspector were not hidden issues. There was a broken motor mount on top of the engine. There were damaged control arm bushings (torn) and a bad ball joint. The car also had bad aftermarket CV axles that were not balanced - this is a common issue that any mechanic should have been able to find (my local mechanic found all of the issues within 15 minutes - now that the repairs are done I can assure you everything is fine). Although timing belt replacement is common for cars they don't find it necessary to call out the potential expense to the purchaser of the inspection. In addition, the inspector did not note some substantial scratches on the car (pictures included).

With all of this said, for any contract to be enforceable both parties need to receive something of value. Lemon Squad got my 200 dollars. I got an inaccurate report giving a car a clean bill of health.

In closing, if nothing else, Lemon Squad should be embarrassed by the quality of work related to my order. However, they seem content to hide behind a 14 day period beyond which they can refute a claim. Given the fact that most people will not do any additional inspection after having a pre-inspection this is a pretty good way to avoid any responsibility. That's fine because it is an unsustainable model for a business. Anyone reading this and the other negative reviews scattered through the internet should run from this company.

I have ordered two inspections with Lemon Squad and received prompt service each time. When I had a concern with the second vehicle after the inspection was already scheduled, I reached out to the customer service team via the online chat and was given the assistance I needed. The customer service agent reached out to the inspector and relayed my concern. Each Lemon Squad report provided dozens of high resolution photos and an itemized chart of each inspection component. The summary provided by the inspectors was well written and detailed. They provide feedback on each dimension of the vehicle's functionality (interior, exterior, mechanical, drive experience, etc) and do not gloss over flaws. Overall I am extremely satisfied with my experience with this company and would recommend it to friends and family who are looking to buy a used car. Thanks Lemon Squad!

First off, I was very impressed by the inspection being scheduled and completed the very next day. The report was thorough and the pictures were plentiful. As an out of state buyer for the particular vehicle, the inspection is invaluable. Most importantly, for me, was the solid communication and very useful chat feature during business hours. Great overall client service!

Travis was our inspector. While we trusted the dealership who offered a detailed video and answered all our questions. Since we were buying our 40ft RV without a test drive or looking at the unit in person we decided to use Lemon Squad. We are very pleased we did. I previously owned a class-A so there were things I had learned regarding appliances and especially slideouts and drive train. I strongly recommend their service. The details of the written inspection and about 125 pictures we more than expected. I knew in detail everything from the radiator to the rear axle (ujoints, no leaked, new belts etc)

I ordered an inspection for a 2008 Honda Odyssey at *** Honolulu, Hi on Sat 17 Aug. The inspection was done on Monday 19 Aug by inspector ***. Back ground of inspection request. I am the buyer of the vehicle however I took possession of the vehicle from the seller on Friday 16 Aug because the seller was out of town. I noted in my inspection request the fact that I had possession of the vehicle at my resident. I put that notification on the request because the request format asked for the sellers information. I then call the Lemon Squad operator to inform her of the situation, she said she will pass that info on to the inspector.
The inspector called me on Monday to inform me of her arrival on or about 1200 to 1400H and ask that I position the vehicle for easy access. Ms. showed up on or about 1300H. She asked that I clarify the situation of me being the buyer I explained to her the situation mentioned above and she acknowledge that she understand and had received confirmation from her office. Ms. was very pleasant and went about the inspection professionally. She explained any items of concern I had and recommend a shop that restores rims. She finish the inspection timely and we had a conversation about her husbands retirement from the Navy today after I mentioned that I was also retired Navy.
I received the completed report today and after reviewing the report and comparing it to the Lemon Squad inspection criteria I notice that they were a few items that wasn't cover in the inspection. So, I decided to call Lemon Squad . I was directed to a service representative by the name of Travis (not confirmed). I explain to Travis that I was calling to discuss a few items on the inspection that I needed clarification on. I explain to him that I was wondering why there wasn't a Road Test, or Engine Scan done on the vehicle. Travis became defensive and question me as to why I didn't say so since I was on site. I explained to him that I thought that was the normal procedure until I went back and read the Lemon Squad's criteria. Needless to say the conversation turned into a why didn't you, with no explanation or answers to my question. Travis spent 5-10 minutes making excuses rather than addressing my issue. Finally he stated that he was going to call his inspector to clarify what my inquiries were. He ask if I wanted to have her come back and complete the issues in question and I agreed.
Travis called me back in about 10 min and stated he spoke with the inspector and this is what she told him, "She said that she didn't conduct the test drive because she didn't feel comfortable with me because I was hitting on her calling her baby and other undesirable manners." This is the first time in over 50 years that I was this upset, because what he was telling me was absolutely LIES. Because during the inspection my wife was within ear shot of our conversation and I also had my neighbor there with us. His explanation brought me almost to anger tears because they were so ridiculous. At one point I had to give the phone to my wife because I was starting to hyperventilate due to these scandalous accusations he was telling me. I told Travis that this was totally ridiculous and I was planning on filing legal complaint.

After speaking with Travis I immediately called Ms. (inspector) back and politely explained to her my conversation with Travis. We spoke as we did yesterday professionally. I explained to her that my reason for my call to Lemon Squad was to get clarification on the stated issues. She
Immediately denied the accusations and said she would call Travis and get back to me. We both continued the conversation explaining to me her reason for what my concerns were, which I appreciated and have no issues with other than the Scan requirement. I was in no way calling Lemon Squad to complain about the inspector but just wanted to clarify those issues. However Travis turned it into a blame game and topped it off with the most ridiculous accusations imaginable. My question to Travis was, if she felt that afraid of me why would she have a casual conversation as to her husbands retirement, where she currently live, where she's moving to, what kids she have in school etc. etc ? He had no sensible explanation for my questions. 22 years US Navy career and to have an accusation like this made against me towards a fellow Navy Veterans wife is absolutely shocking and deserved to be given greater publicity, as to the values your Company displayed in this instance.
Based on these unfounded allegations I file a complaint to Lemon Squad requesting a refund but one week later no response.

Lemon Squad Auto Inspections Response • Sep 05, 2019

Mr. - I'm sorry to hear of the issue that you had with our employee regarding your inspection with Lemon Squad. Said employee is no longer employed by Lemon Squad. I have refunded you your inspection fee of $149.00 in full with my apologies. Please feel free to reach out to us again if you need our help in the future.

I have used Lemon Squad on a couple of occasions now, and have been more than satisfied with the prompt, professional and hassle free service they provide.
On both occasions, my inspection was carried out the next day, followed by a thoroughly detailed and concise appraisal report plus a phone call to discuss the findings.
On the first occasion, the inspection revealed a number of issues that the dealership had been at pains to conceal from me. Lemon Squads excellent service provided me with the information that saved me from spending a lot of money on disappointment.
My second experience was equally painless, swift, professional and lead to an anxiety free purchase of my dream car.
I couldnt ask for more and have been happy to recommend Lemon Squad to friends, family and whoever will listen.
A particularly invaluable service if you are buying out of state.

Fantastic service and would recommend to all family & friends. Very thorough. I would also recommend the phone call. Regan *** was very professional and helpful during this process.

I applied for a classic (1968 280SL) car along with an appraisal. I sent explicit notes that somebody familiar with this model should be present and that is critical to have checked the serial numbers around the car.

Once I got the appraisal challenged the base of appraisal asking for what methodology was used.
They had no idea of Hagerty or similar method ( a calculator with +/- or statistics over the market) so they refunded that portion. The appraisal number was simply made up.
The inspection report was very poor and missed issues that would be obvious for a car enthusiast.
The gentlemen had no idea of the model specifics and there was no attention to details.
Bottom line he did not observed that the A/C compressor and condenser was missing ( while entire cooling unit was inside the car!) and the rear differential was leaking like a gutted pig ( the report stated no leak), just to name the big issues. On the other hand one entire page was dedicated to the wear on tires.
They told me ( when I asked why some serial numbers are missing) that they can read only serial numbers that are easily accessible.
To be mentioned the attitude and language.
The cost of the missed obvious issues was in excess of 10x the value of the service
My conclusion was that Lemon Squad has a template and is hiring people to fill it to their best. This is not an appropriate approach for a classic car.
They felt zero responsibility and refused the refund. They also told me that if I have issues with the car I should take them with the seller.
I would not recommend them for a classic car.

very happy with the service, they booked the inspection the next day and were there the day after, it was a good, thorough and detailed report, very good high quality pics, customer support through chat is fast and responsive, great price, excellent option for a good price for those buying cars remotely, highly recommended.

Lemon Squad worked around my schedule, did an inspection on a Saturday (normally the mechanics day off) and drove the several hours to the site and called me from the site as well as sent pictures and video from his phone. I was very impressed with the service!

They were professional and very helpful. Would recommend to anyone as they went above to get me seen earlier than expected!!!

The company did not render service as represented in their promotional literature. The service was not performed and they would not refund any of our money.

Hi Dan - When you placed your order through our website, the system presented our terms and conditions that you must agree to before you can pay for the service. Item number 7 states that if the vehicle sells before we get there or if for some other reason we don't look at the vehicle, your order is put on hold and used as a credit towards another inspection anywhere in the US. This credit does not expire. You agreed to this when you placed your initial order, and again when you logged into your account for the first time. The reason we didn't look at the vehicle was because it was having some work done. This is something that you brought to our attention so you were aware of it. It was your choice to not have us look at the vehicle. Your order is still on hold and we look forward to doing an inspection for you when you find the right vehicle. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at 888-231-7965.

Lemon Squad provided exactly what was expected based on the website. Highly professional and knowledgeable

I have paid $149 for a particular vehicle that I wanted to be inspected. The Lemon Squad team organized the inspection for 4 days later. The car sold before they did the inspection. Now they are refusing the refund the money. I have paid $149 for an inspection of a particular car. Lemon Squad could not inspect that car, and yet, they say they do not do refunds. Our contract particularly shows a vehicle with a VIN. The Lemon Squad breached the contract, and I am seeking a refund.

Your order was placed on Friday July 12th at 3:08 pm. As it states on our website, we are closed on the weekends. The ETA for your inspection was set for Monday, July 15th, which is the next business day. You failed to secure a hold on your vehicle with your seller and it sold to somebody else over the weekend. We called your seller to verify. He also told us that he never spoke with you in person, only through email. As per the terms and conditions that you agreed to before you placed your order with us, if the vehicle sells before we can look at it, your order is put on hold and used as a credit that will never expire. Your order can be used towards another inspection anywhere in the US. You also went out and left us negative reviews in at least 5 different places, as well as filing a complaint with us against the Revdex.com. We have done nothing wrong here. You did not put a down payment on the vehicle and did not make arrangements with the seller to hold the vehicle. Your order is still on hold with us. We have reached out to you twice and have yet to receive a response from you. We will not be giving you a refund as we did nothing wrong. This is on you, not on us.

I am rejecting this response because: The respond of the business solely depends on their assumptions about my actions. The sole fact that "they don’t issue refunds" is crazy for services that they cannot complete.

I ordered an inspection on a used 2013 Fleetwood Expedition 38B. Order number ***. the inspection was done on 6/14/2019. I stated in the initial submission that I wanted the AC checked as I had a concern. The report had a clean bill of health minus a minor tire concern ( I replaced them) On our first trip 7/3/2019 the AC didn't work and ruined our trip. I reached out to the seller who reported that the inspector brought a vehicle load of kids with him and said he needed to hurry and wasn't able to do a test drive a detailed inspection due to the kids in the vehicle. I now have my RV in the service shop with an AC unit completely out and the Lemon Squad isn't taking any responsibility for a faulty inspection. I asked for my inspection fee back and was declined. I am out several thousand dollars and I am very unhappy with their service. Their incompetence will be costing me time and thousands. This could have been easily prevented or allowed me to make an educated decision on my purchase. The repair shop also said the batteries (6) are also not holding a proper charge. Again, they missed this.

Lemon Squad Auto Inspections Response • Jul 22, 2019

The AC unit was working at the time of the inspection. This inspection was done on 6/14 and wasn't picked up by the buyer until 7/3. Anything could've happened to the AC unit to make it unusable during those 20 days. We did reach out to our inspector regarding the AC and he did state that it was working. The report states that the unit was not test driven due to the unit being hooked up to water, power, etc. for the inspection. I'm sorry that you are having issues with your AC unit. We can only report on issues if they present themselves during the inspection. In this instance, the AC unit was working properly during our time with the RV. We wish you luck and many miles of fun with your RV.

Lemon Squad Auto Inspections Response • Jul 29, 2019

The terms and conditions that you agreed to when you placed your order with us state that you have 14 days from the day that you receive the report to let us know of any issues and we can discuss a refund at that time. You reached out to us on July 17th. The inspection was done on June 14th, over 30 days prior. Even though you reached out to us after the 14 day window, as a show of good customer service, I have issued you a full refund. I recommend that you reach out to your seller for assistance on repairing the AC unit. I wish you many miles with your RV.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I was sent an email advertising a service they no longer offer. A service that I was interested in purchasing. After a phone call with a representative whom told me they no longer offer that serve I requested a different service expensed to them which only cost $25. I was laughed at several times by the woman on the other end of the phone call. If your going to sell a product, and advertise an additional service you should stand behind it at all costs. If you advertise a service you no longer have whether if its been 2 days or 2 years you should be able to make the customer feel whole. In the end I was lied to in an email and laughed at by a woman on the other end of the phone when I held them accountable after all whose fault was it when there was a service advertised in an email sent to me by them. My inspection hadn't been completed when I made this phone call and in retaliation for my completely reasonable request my order was refunded. I now will have to find a different inspection service, as I was hoping to have my offer closed by the end of the week. The object in question may then be sold to another person.

There is a 2 lessons to be learned here;
1. You get what you pay for, this service was $100 to $200 dollars cheaper then any other service I could find and I got treated as if it was $100 to $200 dollars cheaper then any other service I could find.
2. Always, always, always hold businesses accountable because it could save you a lot of money.

Lemon Squad Auto Inspections Response • Jun 25, 2019

Hi Jordan - We haven't offered the service you requested for almost 2 years. We explained that to you over the phone and you demanded that we provide a different service for you free of charge. When we explained that to you, you became irate. Nobody laughed at you. At the end of your conversation with our customer service representative, you informed her that you had recorded the call and asked her if that was ok. It was not ok. This behavior and the way you have treated our staff reinforces the fact that you are not anybody that we want to do business with. Your payment was promptly refunded in full. Unfortunately, you will need to find somebody else to do business with. We won't be abused by people like you. We hope you can find a company that will better meet your needs.

Customer Response • Jun 25, 2019

For the purposes of this comment "you" "your" refer to lemonsquad of MN, and "i" "me" refer to the poster ---
In their response it states that I became "irate" which means "feeling or characterized by great anger" . I was not angry, I did not yell, I did not scream, I was dismayed that a company would mention a service and not offer it weather its been 2 minutes or 2 years. When I requested that service and was told they no longer offer it I asked for a difference service in compensation as a professional courtesy because who was at fault for that communication. Yell at anyone Its amazing a company would think it so outlandish that someone would hold them accountable for there own correspondence. In your closing response you stated that you won't do business with "people like me". What kind of people am I? - I'd like to think of myself as a paying customer. ---
Also exclusively as a well informed citizen and exclusively as a statement of fact both MS and MN are one party consent states in term of recording communications except where warranted; for MS see - MS Code § 41-29-531 , § 41-29-533 , § 41-29-529 and for MN see - MN Stat § 626A.02, § 626A.13 . Your terms of service says MN specifically: " County of Hennepin, State of Minnesota." ---
In my closing I will reiterate the two very important lessons I learned from my experience with this company: "There is a 2 lessons to be learned here; 1. You get what you pay for, this service was $100 to $200 dollars cheaper then any other service I could find and I got treated as if it was $100 to $200 dollars cheaper then any other service I could find. 2. Always, always, always hold businesses accountable because it could save you a lot of money." ---
For clarity purposes I would like to agree with this statement that in fact I was refunded in full, and hold no ill will towards any individual or company involved in any proceeding regardless of who was at fault. My issues with the company were resolved but I will still maintain that I was not made whole and take offense to being called abusive, which is a really strong word there was no violence and no swearing but also no accountability.

I have used Lemon Squad for years. Every inspection they have done for me has been “spot on.” 2 times they have kept me from making a costly mistake when I was told everything was perfect. My inspections have always been done in a very timely manner. I would never consider using anyone else.

I hired these guys to do an inspection on a Dodge Ram out of state on 5/20/2019. Very very impressed. They gave me 265 pictures of the truck, and checked absolutely EVERYTHING! The tech took it for a test drive and gave me a written report within 24hrs. I actually called their office to ask a question about the inspection, there was an OBD error code on the truck or something. I ended up talking to their master tech for like 45minutes. He went over the whole inspection. Blown away how personable he was. Will definitely hire again when I look for my next truck.

Fair pricing. Knowledgeable, up front and honest. Did everything I requested for including things like interior smell to vehicle title authenticity. Id recommend Lemon Squad for yout auto inspection needs.

Beware!! Lemon Squad doesn't do their own inspections. I am a dealer and the subcontractor that was assigned ripped a convertible top. Lemon Squad takes 0 responsibility, subcontractor is also unresponsive and it's costing me over 2k to fix the mistake. The dollar amount tied to Lemon Squad's integrity doesn't seem to be very much

Our inspector is contracted and you will need to be in touch with him directly to address your issues. We have given you his name and number and when we spoke with him last, he did tell us that he has insurance to handle the issue and that he would be calling you. There is nothing we can do on our end. You will need to get in touch with Bill.
