McGrath City Honda Reviews (83)

I am not someone who generally posts reviews but I felt I had to let everyone know just how wonderful McGrath City Honda treated me on my most recent visit. I don't feel enough people go out of their way to show their appreciation for a good business because it is expected and I understand that but generally we are too quick to cast a negative perspective if we don't always get exactly what we may want or expect without giving real thought as to why something may or may not have happened in relation to our expectations.
With all the confusion and uncertainty that we are currently experiencing in the world today, it was re-assuring to see the care and understanding McGrath City Honda is currently taking to ensure it's customers that they understand today's constraints and care about us as customers and even more as human beings. While I was there in service today the General Manager of the dealership, Mike *** was even helping direct the customer service process and you can tell genuinely cared about the safety and precaution the dealership was taking toward catering to any customer needs or concerns. That's what I call leadership, and it was on total display, so refreshing during times like this. Thank you for your wonderful customer service today McGrath City Honda and your flawless attention to detail. Keep up the good work, your preparation shows.

At this time McGrath City Honda has completed all services agreed upon with our customerBeing that the vehicle sold was signed off by Ms [redacted] at the time of sale as an "As is" vehicle purchase with no extended service contracts or implied warranties and the customer was presented with an Illinois state buyers guide stating this at the time of sale, McGrath City Honda has stood by our product and repaired all issues stated and has gone far above and beyond what was obligated in an effort to make Ms [redacted] content with her purchaseNot only have we repaired the vehicle but we also provided Ms [redacted] with a loaner vehicle while all repairs were being completedWith that, Ms [redacted] still has an outstanding balance to be paid to the dealership for violations received from the City of Chicago while in possession of our loaner vehicleWe have reached out to Ms [redacted] multiple times in an attempt to give her the opportunity to satisfy the violations which she had signed a loaner agreement form agreeing to all responsibilities for the loaner vehicle while in her possession but still have not received a response or any correspondence from her at this timeAgain, McGrath City Honda has gone above and beyond our obligations regarding this transaction and would like finality upon receipt of all outstanding debts owed by the customer to our dealershipThank you

Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 5, 2015/09/15) */ I do see where Mr [redacted] is coming from and I believe we were fair in the charges, but, possibly lacking in the explanation The first repair did not fix Mr.***' complaint, although the components replaced did not test 100% The cost of the first repair was $ The second repair including labor(which was not billed to customer) would have been in the range of $to $698, all of which would be labor except, $as the A/C evaporator has to be removed and reinstalled to replace the sensor The labor was waived on the second repair to make things right monetarily, if indeed, the first repairs were not needed Also he was supplied with a rental car at our expense on both visits as to not disturb or interrupt his daily activity If Mr [redacted] feels we did not communicate that well enough, our apologies This was our first opportunity to service Mr***' car and would like to continue to be his servicing dealerEven though we feel we have went above and beyond concerning the repair, we would like to offer him a $service credit to be used in the futureThis can be used towards any repairs done to his vehicle going forward Initial Consumer Rebuttal / [redacted] (3000, 7, 2015/09/16) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I do not accept McGrath City Honda's offer of a $service creditI would accept a $refund from them but not a creditI plan on never returning as a customer to McGrath City HondaI feel strongly that they have misled me, lied to me and charged me for unnecessary repairsI would never recommend their service department to anyoneAnd if this situation is not resolved to my satisfaction, I will express those views on [redacted] and social mediaI feel their explanation for the necessity of the first repair is tenuous at bestMy car's AC experienced the exact same problems before the first and second repairBoth times my car's AC would stop working in exactly the same manner when the car was running for more than an hourIs there any proof that "the components did not test 100%" before the first repair and needed to be replaced, but did test 100% before the second repair even though the AC failed to operate exactly the same before both repairsI called another certified Honda service center and inquired about the cost of having the temperature sensor replaced (the second repair that was made)I was told it would only take 2-hours and that the sensor was inexpensiveTherefore I feel McGrath City Honda is exaggerating the actual cost of the second repair when they quote a cost of $to $ I paid a total of $to McGrath City Honda to have my AC repaired; $for the first repair and $for the second repairI believe the cost should have been closer to $500, and that only the second repair was necessaryIf they refund me $for the difference in that cost I will consider this matter resolved Final Business Response / [redacted] (4000, 11, 2015/09/29) */ [redacted] City has reached out to Mr [redacted] and after a conversation and better understanding of each other from both aspects of the issue we have come to a resolution and both parties have agreed

I have used them for almost all of my car services for years, and they wetter always pretty good, that is until my last visit. The service sales guy tried to sell me a service that they had done not long before. He told me that they had no record of doing this ever, but I had paid for it. I asked for it to be done at no cost, as I had paid for it, and apparently there was no record of the service, and he was saying it looked like it had never been done on my car. He said that he couldn't do that. I should have left and not looked back, but I made the mistake of staying.

He then told me all of these other services that needed to be done on my car. He told me that it was against the law for him to let me leave without getting these services done. That he couldn't let me leave without it. I was done arguing, and gave in. I sat at that dealership all day. I was not offered a ride anywhere, or a courtesy car at any point.

Later I had a friend look over the bill, and he pointed out that I had been over charged. I contacted this dealership about my whole experience, and they did refund me for being overcharged, but never even addressed any of my other issues. I won't be going back ever.

Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 13, 2014/09/16) */ McGrath City Honda and the customer have been in contact and have come to a mutual agreement that satisfies both partiesThank you for your assistance,

I have been a customer for the past 5 years and always received good service until recently. Last month I scheduled an appointment for new tires. The appointment was scheduled 2 weeks in advance through the dealer's specific tire service website. When I arrived, I was told that the tires I selected were not in stock and would have to be ordered, taking another 2-3 weeks. I had a flat and had a road trip that weekend, so had to select a different tire that the sales person told me was in stock. I was told it would take 2 hours, I was at the dealership for over 7. The tires that supposedly were in stock actually were not and they had to go to the "warehouse" to obtain the missing tires. The next day, I noticed that they had put on tires that were different than those I selected. I emailed them about this, but received no response. It's a shame that this is how they treat loyal customers.

Me and my wife were looking to replace her car with a new vehicle because it was about timeWe visited McGrath honda city just to look around and get some informationFrom that day we continued to receive calls almost everydayWe went in a second time just to get some more information and some more pricing before making decisions about purchasingThe day we went in we began to ask questions about our trade in quote that was told and one of the sales reps was begin to be very rude to use and talking to me and my wife with attitude and disrespectWe decided to leave and try again another day when we were about ready to buyThe final time we came in we were handed of to another sales rep and we test drove the car we were interested in and got a little more informationBefore we decided to proceed further we had informed that we didn't want to run our credit check multiple times because we knew how much impact it has on a credit score each time its ranwe made sure we clarified that to the sales rep and we proceeded to get a hard quote on what price we were looking at for purchase and the sales rep never mentioned that our credit report was being run though multiple banks and that it was going to affect our credit with the inquiries or that it was gonna be processed multiple timesWe finally got a quote from the sales rep and we were not quite satisfied with the quote and the found a better one that seemed a bit more appealingWhen we received the quote me and my wife wanted to take some time to think about it and the sales rep continued to push the price and didn't wanna allow us time to go over the numbers or anythingHe then brought in the manager and the manager was just as much trying to push us in to the price and to buy the carHe kept telling us if we didn't sign then and there we would lose out on our deal and just did everything possible to get me and my wife to signWe didn't feel like they were in any way doing things in our best interest and was doing anything and everything to benefit themselves and get a sale out of useven after we told the manager we would call back if we were interested in buying, they continued to call us over and over againNow me and my wife have multiple hard inquiries on our credit report and is affecting our credit score because we were not properly informed about everything from the sales repThey've continued to call my wife everyday since that day and even after we told them no thank you the first time they called after they still called until I told the manager if they continued to call I would report it as harassmentOverall they were rude and unprofessional and we will never go back to their dealer or send any family or friends to purchase from them as well

My wife needed a new car and has waited far too long because she really dislikes the negotiation and time it take to settle on a dealer and priceI did the research for her and found it to be a daunting task even on the internetI only dealt with dealers first of all that had a fairly good rating with the Revdex.comAfter researching the car we really wanted it was a matter of the best price and who had the right colorI went to dealerships that my business uses and came up with an attitude of "they are going fast and this is the best price"no matter how many trucks that I have purchased from them, their prices did not come close to othersVery disappointedI went to anther dealer in Naperville for a Honda and I must say they had the best price until it change on us because of a Honda discount that endedI even asked if they would split the difference while we were in the showroom waiting to buy on the spotThey did not come down even a dimeThis dealership so impressed me with the modern up to date showroom and service department as well as the well dresses sales staff that ended up to be empty suitsI would have considered this dealership In Naperville to be the [redacted] of Honda dealers, but like [redacted] you have to pay for the admission feeI finally approached this dealership McGrath City Honda and asked if they could match or come close to the best offer that I had researchedI think I had a total of dealerships that I talked to including the ones our business and friends and even family had done business withMcGrath said yes to the price match and said to come over and pick out the one of two that they had in blackThe sales manager Jeremy [redacted] was so professional and courteous that I knew right then and there I had found my dealerThe salesman the handled the paperwork was Dodie [redacted] and was very nice as wellI would have to say even the financial officer that handled our loan gave us so many options and a no pressure feeling that we were even impressed with himMy wife was happy and ended up buying some of the extra items that we originally were going to say no to and turned out to be a very great experienceI can not recommend them enoughThank you for making a difficult experience one of the most pleasurable because of the way that we were treatedIts not about the show, or the salesmen dress or even the location sometimes it is about how you are treated and listened to that makes the difference and that is what I found at MacGrath City Honda

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:this is not the first time I’ve had to use the [redacted] warrantyIt is however the first time it had taken so long to have repairs completed It is also necessary to not that I always kept scheduled service maintenance indicating any specific concerns to the repNone of these things were brought to my attention or noticed before this visit Additionally, Honda neglected to tell you that after finally picking up my vehicle after more than a month, I had to return to the service department the very next dayAt that time they diagnosed a transmission problem, which I have complained about on several occasionsThe vehicle was taken back on April 14th, today is April 25th and I have only had call from Honda and that was to tell me that once again they are contacting the warranty company Sincerely, Shirley [redacted]

Both McGrath City Honda and Ms [redacted] have decided that it would be best to unwind the deal entirely and just take the sold vehicle back in the dealership's possessionAt this point there has been no loan placed or pending and the deal is considered null and voidMcGrath City Honda will also be returning Ms***' travehicle back to her on Wednesday 9/14/This should finalize the undone transactionThank you for your assistance to this matter

Their finance department signs customers paperwork for them. When I brought the issue up to the general manager Mike ***, he said that according to McGrath family policy, when a customer signs the buyer's order, we are giving permission for them to transfer our signature to other forms. Supposedly it's a convenience for customers. This place is

On 8/9/19, I agreed with McGrath Honda to perform repair service to my vehicle, in order to remove a grinding noise while driving. Upon picking up the vehicle, I paid for repairs and received a receipt which stated (Vehicle is no longer making noise). Upon driving the vehicle from the Dealer, grinding noise was still present. I returned the vehicle back in to McGrath Honda who then corrected the issue and then re-billed me a 2nd time for same original repair.

Mr.' is a 2004 *** with 106816 miles on it at time of initial service. No maintenance history or documentation was available to us other than recalls having been performed in the past and a brake job done in 2015.

On 8/9/19 Mr. came in for an noise from right rear wheel when turning and pulling out of a parking spot and had also asked that we check his brakes, wheel bearings and hardware.

We found and documented that he needed front and rear brake pads/resurface rotors, timing belt and timing belt tensioner, and also a rear differential fluid flush.

The main cause of the noise was the rear differential, because the fluid, which appeared to likely have been neglected to be serviced for the life of the vehicle (no record of change) was excessively dirty and contaminated. We documented on the repair order that due to the fluid being excessively dark and dirty with accumulation on the differential, that the fluid would likely need to be changed again very soon to fully resolve the concern and fully flush the system. After we flushed the fluid the noise from the differential did subside, but again, we notated and told the customer that because the fluid had been so very dirty, that we would likely need to change it again soon thereafter.

On 8/13/19, Mr. returned for the noise from the differential having returned, he agreed via signature authorization to perform the second flush on the differential fluid as was previously advised that would be needed. We again noted that follow up visits to check on the internal components of the differential were still recommended, because the original condition of the neglected fluid in the differential may still have some contaminates and corrosion could still cause further problems.

So, the only thing the customer paid for was to have the differential fluid changed. Yes he paid to change it twice, but we informed him on the first visit that we would need to do it again, and he agreed with a signature on the second visit to have us change it the second time at his expense.
Tell us why here...

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

According to McGrath repair order, the mechanic (In fact) had noted on the repair order, that the vehicle was “NO LONGER MAKING NOISE” after the service was completed. There is no mentioned on the repair order that the noise had subsided, only that the vehicle was no longer making noise. And Yes, I was informed that the vehicle might need another flush in the future, but never was I told it would be within 15 minutes after driving away from the Dealership.

And to clarify why the vehicle was returned several days later is because on 8/9/19 the Dealership stated that their next available opening would be on 8/13/19. So I had no choice but to wait several days before returning my vehicle to the Dealership. So the second visit to the Dealership was in fact a continuation of the first visit, due to no available openings.

And the signature that was given on the second visit was in order to “check in” the vehicle. It was not an authorization to perform additional repairs and/or charges. So I never agreed to be charged twice, for the same repair.

The bottom line is that McGraths Honda suggested a service to solve my vehicle’s noise problem. Whereupon, I agreed to have the work done, as well as, pay for said work. But, within 15 minutes after driving from the Dealership the noise was still present. All in all, the mechanic stated that the noise was gone, McGrath took my payment for the repair, and I drove home with the same existing noise problem.

Sincerely,

David

Mr.,

I appreciate that you did agree that the rear differential was not making noise when you left the dealership. I understand that neither you nor I were anticipating that the noise would return so soon, even tho we had a distinct feeling that the noise would return at some point. We had no way to know if the noise would subside for 15 minutes, 15 hours, 15 days, or never return at all, we just knew that the noise probably would return and, if/when it did, an additional differential fluid flush would be required. I also see that when you returned for the second fluid exchange, you signed at the time of drop off for that to be done.

I'd like to go back to before we recommended the first fluid flush:

-You specifically asked us to perform an inspection on your vehicle to determine the source of a loud noise that you were hearing.

-When our technician first determined that the noise that you asked us to diagnose was coming from the rear differential, we inspected the fluid and found it to be excessively contaminated. This fluid became contaminated over time, and the condition of the fluid indicated that the recommended interval for changing the fluid was most likely exceeded by a very long period.

-The rear differential's purpose is to take the rotational force of the drive shaft, and turn that rotation at 90 degree angles to cause the rear wheels to be propelled. Because of this, there is a very complex series of highly specialized and precisely machined inter-meshing metal gears inside the differential assembly. These gears require a very specific lubricant along with friction modifiers in order for the gears to operate quietly and not have pre-mature wear. Your differential fluid was not providing this protection, therefore causing the gears to mesh in such a way that the friction was great enough to cause the very loud noise that you were hearing, and the friction and heat are what caused the fluid to become fully impregnated with contamination and friction debris. This is why Honda has specific intervals recommended to change this fluid, and the fluid change intervals are designed to keep the rear differential from ever reaching the point of noise and internal wear that your differential experienced.

-Because of this condition of the fluid, your rear differential was extremely close to having a possible major internal failure. If your rear differential were to have an internal failure of that magnitude, the differential would have needed to be replaced in its entirety. A new Honda rear differential for your vehicle with the labor to install it would exceed $4000.00 plus tax.

-One of our initial possible recommendations was going to be to recommend that the differential be replaced, because it was so close to possibly having a total failure.

-Because of the large investment that would have been required to replace the rear differential (and absolutely assure that your noise concern was resolved on the first service visit), our team decided to make different recommendation in an attempt to save you money, and still provide you with a fully functioning rear differential for the time being. Instead of recommending a $4000 repair, we recommended to you to change the fluid for $139.95, and possibly change it again in the near future for an additional $139.95 to help you avoid a possible $4000 expense, because by doing so we had the potential to save you thousands of dollars.

-Now that your fluid has been changed twice, the rear differential on your vehicle is operating as designed and has not experience a catastrophic failure as of this time. We did notated on your second invoice that further inspections of the rear differential may also be necessary, however.

- Now that you have allowed us the opportunity to show you that we truly had you, your vehicle, and your budget in mind when making this repair recommendation to you, you will see that we truly did provide you with an excellent service that potentially saved you $4000 in possible future repairs. I do want to mention again tho, that there is still a possibility that your rear differential may at some point in the future still have a failure because of the condition the previous fluid had gotten to, but the chances of that have been greatly diminished by the work that we performed.

-As the service manager of this dealership, I truly believe that you and your vehicle were treated honestly, fairly and ethically. I also truly believe that we saved you a very major repair expense and extended the life of your rear differential for a very economical price, that we explained everything to you and you agreed to the work that was performed.

This is the first time I gave review, the dealership is a joke and liars. I called to talk to the sales person named Jimmy and he told me a certain price and I checked at least 2 times with him on my phone on speaker that the price he gave to me included everything and my two friends heard it. And when I arrived . In their system they said it does not include TTL and it will be more , total waste of my time , never trust them !

I purchased an automobile from this company I paid a 500 payment towards my insurance and I ended up cancelling I requested a refund and haven't heard from the finance department or the insurance company since march 2nd they refuse to take a call from me I even left messages they screens all the call and mr Louis in the finance department please help me get my refund.
