McGrath City Honda Reviews (83)

Yesterday on 4/18/19 I decided to stop at McGrath at approximately 3:50pm. I was excited because I had come across a vehicle from Honda that caught my attention it was the Honda Insight EX 2019. I walked right in and there was a sales rep. He took a look at me and got back to he's phone but as I kept going I guess he decided to ask if I needed help? I said yes. He ask what was it that I needed? I said what are your interests rates like for a car loan? He said he wasn't sure but he would find out. But then he ask was there a particular vehicle your looking for? I said yes and proceed to tell him. I notice as he interacted with me he was aslo interacting with more people over the phone and text. It didn't bother me at all. But the more he got calls the more upset he seemed to be getting. He when about telling me how frustrating it was that no one seem to know were things were at that dealer like he knew everything. I try not to get involved as it wasn't what I was there for. He took me first to look at the car and test drive it. The vehicle he used to get over there to the lot smell like burger instead of new. This is how my excitement started, but wait there's more. After the test drive we went back to the dealer. Now he took me to the sales department in which as soon as I walked into that building the air was so thick one can hardly breathe. Doesn't smell anything like a dealer with new car's or even a dealer of high class level. Why I use this terms. Well, because almost every desk of the sale department is a open cubicle in which everyone near you can here exactly what you are talking about. But that wasn't the disturbing part for me. The most disturbing part was when I was ask about sensitive information like my social security number. I try to speak as low as I could but I was aware that still people could here me. There is no privacy whatsoever. I remember telling Alex *** the sales rep. That attended me, If he wanted to make a sale, he's response was "yes." All I wanted was a loan rate I new the car I wanted because I love that car. He started filling some paper work without my credit score he said I needed $5,000 down and my monthly payments looked like$550 a month. Honestly I had no I dea where he came up with those numbers. Then I said that's way too much even with that down payment so he had the loan department guy and I say guy because I never got he's name. A person walks into a dealer well know as McGrath but you have no idea who is looking at your information. Well getting back they ran my credit and the sales rep. Came back with the best they can do is a $361 monthly payment and the same down payment. That still looked high to me. When I ask Alex what is my credit score he had no idea. He had to call and ask the guy from the loan department. The guy when ask proceed to ask Alex why he wanted my credit score Alex smile and said because the customer wants to know. My credit score 768. The interest rate they were giving me was 4.9 but this is what was interesting the loan department guy ask Alex did he like the car? Alex responded Yes he did. It's funny why a loan guy would be asking this. The best they did was a 3.9 interests rate for $22,747.30. At which point I sad to Alex thank you but its no good. I will get my own loan else were and come back with a check. At which point he said rates don't make a lot of difference. Alex call he's guy from the loan department to come out and talk to me. However, at that time they had wasted to much of my time. I thank Alex and walk away. Alex was so caught into how he's day was ending that he missed a great sale and a customer. I am a preferred customer from McGrath city ***. In 2005 McGrath wasn't there but I bought my first Hyundai. In 2013 I bought my second Hyundai with Nasir ***. all I can say from this two service's is that at the loan department they were the same. But the sales rep. way different. Mr. was very professional excellent rep. I may have been wearing work clothes a sweater with hoodie. But Alex miss the clean face nice cut hair honesty and upfront person. This isn't my first car but I was treated like it was all my cars have been 0 miles. When I was about to buy my home, there was a real state agent like Alex. Who was more focus on making a profit then helping a person. The next time I saw that agent he ask me If I had bought a home? My reply was oh yea. The agent missed a big profit it went to someone else. My whole experience at McGrath City Honda was awful because I was looked at like the little guy. But it is people like me the little guy that supports the big guy like McGrath. I guess Alex had no idea that Honda is a franchise of McGrath. To the people out there that read this review please know that there are more dealers that sale Honda cars. Because one dealer that carries the brand on a service or product doesn't mean you have to shop there. I will get the car that I fell in love with but not through McGrath City Honda. However, I will keep guard on my personal info because I don't know how safe my information is at McGrath. I rate 1start because the cars are in good condition but no start to the service. Thanks for reading.
Ps. I have also choosen to file a review on B.B.B because they defend the little guy like me. McGrath will fight you if you stand a lone. I know because it happened on 2013.

I cannot warn people against McGrath City Honda enough. This dealership has cause me so much extra money and stress. They are shady, lie to your face and could not care less about the customer. I STRONGLY recommend to never purchase anything from this dealership EVER!!

I will highlight my key issues below for some insight.

Service/Car Knowledge - If you are looking to get your car serviced at McGrath City Honda. AVOID! This place does not know anything about cars. To start, they put the WRONG SIZE tires on my Rogue. After fighting with the sales manager, they finally agreed to replace the two wrong tires. This would be fine except my car is an AWD vehicle. Meaning that all tires need to be the same brand or the AWD will be damaged while driving. I called to get the name of the two new tires they put on my car. The service guy told me they "don't" keep record of that kind of information. I then went to a tire shop to have the 2 back tires on my Rogue replace because I don't want my AWD ruined. That tire shop told me that they front two tires are OFF MARKET TIRES. Meaning that no one is able to purchase them and I had to buy four new tires. All in all, this ordeal cost me $1,000 more than I originally spent on the vehicle.

SCAM WARNING: They will try to put $1,000 charge on your bill labeled as 'theft'. This just means they will give you $1,000 to purchase a new car - if you car is stolen, found and totaled.

Finance: Finance sold me on a $1,400 warranty (my mistake for falling for their sales ploy). They told me I could cancel anytime. I sent the cancellation form to the Finance Manager (Luis). After 5 separate follow-ups with zero responses.

I had more issues with McGrath flaking on scheduling appointments as well.

Very frustrated and disappointed in this dealership.

FALSE ADVERTISEMENT

I visited McGrath City Honda with intent to purchase a used vehicle that was advertised for $19,926 on the internet. When the salesperson; Michale added provided a sales proposal the cost of the car came to over $26,000, when I inquired what was included she went on to explain that the final cost included several options that she had to put back into the cost. I informed her that this should have been included in the price. Since it was not included in the cost I expected the vehicle final price to be around $23,000 with tax. She insisted that she could not sell the car without including the additional items.

I would like to give ZERO stars but it does not appear to be an option. As far as I'm concerned this was false advertisement and I'd like for others to be aware that the price you see advertised is not the price they will honor at McGrath City Honda.

*** Certified? Buyer Beware!!!
I purchased a *** certified car for my father recentlyHe drove the car home and parked itThe following morning (less than hours later) the TPMS light came onToday my dad took the car to McGrath City *** in Chicago after I called the dealer and explained the situation to the service manager (Bob ***)After looking at the problem, the dealer advised that the TPMS system had to be reprogrammed and by the way, it is not covered (charge $125.00!!!!)I called Gary at *** *** in Crystal Lake where I purchased the vehicle and who advised the vehicle was covered for months/12k miles bumper to bumper and was advised that that was too badIf I had brought it back to them they would have repaired at no chargeAmerican *** when I contacted them offered no solution eitherThey provided me a case number and advised someone would review the case within hours and make a decisionWhen I asked to speak to a supervisor, the supervisor flat out refused to even speak to meVery disappointed with the *** Certified warranty and the lack of customer service both by *** Motor company and the both dealershipsWhat were the points inspected prior to this vehicle being *** Certified? This appears to be more of a taillight warrantyhours after purchase, there should not be a charge or all of this aggravation over any problem with the vehicleThis has been absolutely ridiculousI expect much better from a company like Honda

In response to Ms*** issues regarding her purchase, McGrath City Honda will try to answer each question raised within the customer complaintWith regard to our customer wanting to return the vehicle because of her interest rate being high is simply not within the guidelines of the
sales contracts she signed which clearly states the interest rate that was facilitated to her by McGrath City Honda from a lienholder willing to finance her loan based off her personal credit situation and loan structureThese details were provided to Ms*** throughout the purchasing process and ultimately once again in the business office while signing the final documents and disclosuresRegarding any recalls related to this vehicle, McGrath City Honda provides a "Recall Listing Disclosure" form that states in essence that this vehicle could possibly qualify as being subject to an open recall and that the dealer recommends the buyer take the vehicle to an applicable franchise dealer to confirm any open recalls that could possibly still need to be performedThis form was presented to and signed by Ms*** before her taking delivery of the *** *** that she purchased on 3/17/Furthermore, McGrath City Honda performs a used car inspection on all vehicles prior to them being available for sale to the publicThis vehicle does not come close to any type of lemon law clause of any sortPlease search lemon law guidelines for any further info regarding lemon law qualificationsWith regards to brakes, during initial inspection before the sale, our service department installed new front pads and resurfaced front rotorsWe can only assume that the noise the customer is hearing could be due to the new brakes settling into place This noise should be temporary as the front brakes are brand newWe appreciate Ms*** concerns and ultimately want her to be satisfied with her purchase and feel we did everything necessary as her selling dealer to not only secure a loan that met her standards at the time of her decision to purchase and take delivery but to also to deliver a quality vehicle that provides value for both her budget and credit situationWe feel that's what was doneAs a dealership that believes deeply in customer service, we invite Ms*** back to our service center to allow us to re-inspect and discuss any remaining issues she may still feel need attentionIf at that time we can offer assistance we are always happy to do so

I bought a new CRV EX-L 2017 in 207 with 6 miles on it. I had to bring it back 3 weeks after I bought it for the sensors all the lights across the dash board come on. Brake service lights, Acc control lights, maligation lights etc.... it is now 2019 and I am still bringing it back. Honda said it was my window I bought a new window then it was the lining of the Radar. This CRV is crap.

Mr*** admitted that he charged me a certification fee on a vehicle that was ALREADY certified but refused to take off the reconditioning charge. Two representatives from *** *** told me no customer is charged a reconditioning fee.I made an appointment to talk to Mr*** and he made me sit in the dealership lounge while he stared out the showroom window for an hour doing nothing. It is difficult to deal with the same person who has been lying to me from day one
