Murray and Sons Construction Reviews (84)

Murray And Sons did a great job repairing our ceiling. The price was fair, the employees were very clean and polite. We would recommend Murray And Sons to our friends. Thanks, [redacted] in [redacted].

When I build my next home I will only deal with Murray & sons and highly recommend them to anyone who needs a competitive reliable builder.

I hired Murray & sons to construction house. They were easy to work with and accommodated the color changes I requested. They fixed any spots that needed touch ups and finished within the estimated time. Price wise. I am happy with the job and would hire them again.

They were knowledgeable about what needed to be done to fix my problem and was very responsive over email about any questions I had. Unfortunately, we had a tight schedule to get the work done but they were able to start and finish everything within those time constraints without any problems. They were very honest and trustworthy during the repair process and the result was great! I have no complaints and will definitely be using their services on my next repair project.

They were very responsive and scheduled the work for two days after I called them. They and team protected the floors and furniture and did a great job repairing the tiles and door in my house. I would definitely call again for projects around the house and would recommend them to others who are looking for help.

Murray & Sons and team did a great job designing and replacing the trim around our front door, as well as some repair and painting work inside our home. They were very professional - always showed up on time, worked very clean and responsive to emails and phone calls. Would highly recommend.

Murray & Sons set up and break down in our two home shows. I'd like to thank them again for their help and making our shows a success. Trustworthy, reliable, punctual are the first words that come to my mind in describing them - they are terrific to work with and a well run organization. Thanks again for all your support!

Murray and Sons recently did a landscape project for me. From the design, to a qualified work crew and follow up at job completion they have done an exceptional job. I would give a positive reference to their landscape division. Sincerely, [redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I worked with [redacted] two projects before and had no issues at all.  This shows the issues I am having now are caused by the lack of management of Murray and Sons Construction, LLC.  As the company owner, he shouldn’t blame on his sales manager and should take full responsibility.Business is business.  The “completion” of the project is to get all items in the contract done, which includes the installation of play set stated in the very beginning.  Murray and Sons Construction doesn’t finish all items in the contact.  That’s why after I have paid 90.4% of the project cost, I asked them to finish all items to receive the last 9.6% ($850).Regarding to the comment “needs time for grass to grow before installing the play set”, the grass was installed on October 22, 2014.  Murray and Sons told us it takes two weeks for grass to grow before the installation of play set.  There were no heavy rains after the grasses were installed.  Two weeks later from October 22, 2014, Murray and Sons promised to install the play set on November 8, November 17, and November 22 but they didn’t show up.  I think they are busy so I didn’t ask until early December.  Murray and Sons promised again to install the play set on December 13 after I contacted Murray and Sons early December.  However, no one from Murray and Sons showed up on December 13.  After I filed the Revdex.com compliant, Murray and Sons promised to install the play set on January 3, 2015.  Unfortunately, Murray and Sons broke the promise again.A-1. The owner plays the word game here on the definition of “leak”.  Leaking is “water comes from where it shouldn’t be”.  Currently water jets from outside of the bubbler head due to the improper installation of the head.  When going through the issues, the owner promised to fix that in the next day.  He didn’t.A-2.  When checking the wet area around valve box, the owner didn’t try to find the root cause but just find the excuse.  I don’t accept the “condensation” excuse.  First of all, the box is half dry and half wet.  If the wet is caused by condensation, all area inside the box should be wet.  Secondly, there were no rains around the day the owner came to check the issue.  However, the rocks deep inside the box are all wet.  Last but not the least, I have another valve box around installed by other company but that box is always dry. A-3.  There are couple water spreaders for grass broken already (or in owner's work, not working properly).B.  The owner plays the word game again here.  It has been more than 2 months after the grass installation.  Winter grasses in other area have grown very well except that spot.  This indicated the winter grass died in that spot rather than not grew yet.C.  Murray and Sons did NOT replace heads that don’t work properly.Requests to Murray and Sons:  Complete all items below by January 31, 2015 then I pay the last 9.6% ($850) of the project cost.  In the case Murray and Son doesn’t complete all items below by January 31, 2015, Murray and Sons disclaims the right to receive the last 9.6% ($850) of the project cost.1. Complete the installation of play set.  2. Fix all water leaking from improper installation of the heads.3. Find the root cause of the wet ground around valve box Murray and Sons installed then fix the issue.4. Fix the water spreaders that work improperly.5. Add additional seed to the area that grasses died.Regards,[redacted]

Based on our last conversation with [redacted] his concerns where: 1. A broken sprinkler head. 2. A leak in the drip line.3. A wet area around the irrigation valve box.Answers,1. The head was disassembled upon our arrival (see picture) this is not a warrantable event.  We did replace the head as a customer service repair (see pic of the entire system working).2. The drip line had be cut in half and a refrigeration splice had been installed (see pic).  This is not a warrantable event.  We did repair the cut drip line as a customer service repair (see pic).3. The area in question does appear to be wet (see pic).  We dug up and along the pipes that feed this irrigation box (see pic) and found no visible leaks.  We ran the entire system for approx. 15 minutes and found no leaks that would cause the area to be wet.  We cannot accurately say what is causing this issue but we do not feel it is from the irrigation installed. Lastly as a point of fact, all warranties are valid once a contract is paid in full.  [redacted] has yet to paid this contract in full so all repairs have been done in good faith that [redacted] will pay this contract.  At this time we believe all concerns have been addressed to the fullest of our abilities and there is nothing more we can do to satisfy [redacted] concerns. Sincerely,The staff ofMurray and Sons Construction LLC

[redacted] did inform us of the cracks (they are settling cracks - not typical but they do occur) and we did advise we would come out and address them but we wanted to wait 60-90 days to allow all of the settling to finish.  At that time, we would cut in joints as needed and put a final coat...

of paint on the new decking returning it to its new state.  This was our agreement and the day prior to the complaint being filed, I personally walked the deck with [redacted] so why she filed the complaint is beyond me?

As for the screen in question, that was not contracted for, built by nor installed by us.  [redacted] was a challenging client and in an effort to appease her, one of the salesmen offered to make the screen and have it installed.  It was our intent again in an effort to appease [redacted] to rebuild the screen in question as one last ditch attempt to make her happy but with the filing of this complaint we know now that making this client happy is not possible.  The screen is a repair we do not plan on doing at this time.

Sincerely,

Murray and Sons Construction LLC

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The only reason Murray and Sons Construction was hired was because of their outstanding Revdex.com A+ rating and that they were family owned and operated for the past decades.  Over the course of two months I made numerous attempts to contact [redacted], or [redacted] with little to no success for a separate baseboard job that we were having issues with completion (complain #[redacted]). Meanwhile issues with the floor began to surface. [redacted] in Sales Production verbally agreed to terminate the baseboard contract and refund a remaining deposit. I was appalled when they wouldn't bother to return my calls or give a definite answer on resolving these issues. Until this day I have not received the refund that I was promised. Sadly, the only way to get this company's attention was to file a formal complaint. Within a couple of days, Mr. [redacted] called me personally and was eager to know what the issues were. We scheduled to meet at my residence that following weekend so he can take a look at the work himself. But once again, Mr [redacted] was nowhere to be seen or heard from. A few days later he finally called me back and stated that he would be unable to come at all, but he would send [redacted] (the installer) to inspect the job.      I was asked to sign off on the matter of color, texture, and variation (sample area was a work in progress, not final product). However, I was not asked to sign off on mistakes or poor craftsmanship. It is absurd to claim that I praised a work that is not satisfactory and certainly does not reflect what Murray and Son's previous customer's reviews state. Upon conducting a second inspection (after complaint filed), [redacted] the installer acknowledged that indeed some areas were not done correctly and would need repair. He suggested sanding the ridges were the stain would no adhere (as shown on photo) and he applied sealant to the pantry area were none was applied before. I appreciate him taking the [redacted]e explaining how the composition of the cement and the reaction of the acid stain would yield different results. As well as how low and high spots in the cement mixture applied could divert where the stain will settle and rough/ smooth gloss would be created. As far as refusing to talk resolve, At the orders of Mr. [redacted] himself, [redacted] was to come and inspect the floor and [redacted] was to call me back and decide how to proceed. It has been almost a week now and I still have not heard back from [redacted], or anyone else from Murray and Sons Construction. As stated before, I will not be conducting business with this company anymore, however I am willing to provide an 'opportunity' for them to fix the issues on hand.    It is not in my best interest to make this company look bad (I'm sure they have good workers with good character), however when they declined to provide solutions and give you the run around, one is left with the option of last resort of filing a formal complain. I am not the type of person who wants to waste anybody's [redacted]e or put anybody's reputation in jeopardy, but ignoring a customer's request is simply unacceptable. I have been very patient with Murray and Sons (Mr. [redacted] personally thanked me for that) and I wished everything had been done the right way since the beginning. I'm currently awaiting a response from Mr. [redacted] or anyone from their staff on how and when to proceed with correcting the flooring issues. Let not this become a missed 'opportunity'...

Regards,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.
Ms [redacted]. Send me a paid in full that states you will not try to collect the second half of my payment to you and I will consider this case resolved as I will use that money to have my outlet fixed. I find it interesting that you have never contacted me personally. The last person I spoke to was your controller (just prior to the 4th of July) who told me no one was authorized to speak to me any longer. Your supervisor [redacted] did have a repair for my outlet, not my switch scheduled and the controller overroad that and said they were not going to do that repair and also threatened me with small claims court. I have  had no contact with anyone from your company since then and the only resolution that has been sent through the [redacted] was a copy of my original contract. No offers were ever made to me to resolve this after I made this complaint. I don't appreciate being threatened and this complaint was lodged after many phone calls to get the job finished and done properly. . Your dry wall worker crossed some wires for my ceiling fan and burned my patio outlet out. My outlet, switch and ceiling fan were all working perfectly before this. The dry wall was textured as the contract states, however you can see every seam because it was not leveled properly prior to the texturing, again no one from your company has been here to see that in person. Again send me a paid in full and I will pursue my own repairs.

Regards,

As stated Mr. [redacted] did talk to a number of people and with each conversation we felt the issues at hand were resolved.  We now understand the process was akin to telling one person a story and then hearing it 2 weeks later from the 5th person in line, it is nothing like the initial story.  In the end after speaking to [redacted], it was agreed the baseboard job would be canceled and a refund of half of the deposit would be issued (half of the initial work had been completed so 25% of the contract was due and payable).   That refund was sent to Mr. [redacted] as agreed and has not been tendered as of the date of this complaint and until the complaint, Murray and Sons was unaware that the refund had not been received nor any other issues existed.

We did send our lead installer [redacted] back to walk the job with Mr. [redacted] also installed this job) and they reviewed the sealer concerns, they reviewed the coloring issues as Mr. [redacted] saw them and [redacted] discussed options that were available to make changes to the floor now and, [redacted] discussed the possible issues that could arise from those options.  It is my understanding from [redacted] that Mr. [redacted] taped the conversation but refused to participate in the conversation?

At this [redacted]e, Murray and Sons stands ready to work with Mr. [redacted] rectify the issues as he see them but, without his participation on the options available we are at a standstill.  As for the refund, we will issue a stop payment on check [redacted] and re-issue that via check and send it certified mail to ensure we have a receipt of the delivery.  Thx

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. This response of a photocopy of my contract is...

hardly a solution to my complaint.  When the worker doing the dry wall was spattering the ceiling for the orange peel he crossed the wires for my light ceiling fan which caused it to spark. Did not know it at the time but that spark burned out my electrical outlet on my patio and the  switch for the fan. The drywall worker was a representative for this company and I want the damage he did repaired. I want this outlet repaired and it is the basis for my complaint This is a simple fix for my complaint. I had an agreement with the supervisor [redacted] for them to take care of this and their controller overrode that agreement and has offered no solution, other than to threaten to take me to small claims court. A reputable company fixes mistakes their workers make, why is this company so unwilling to follow through?

Regards,

To whom it may concern, in reviewing this complaint please note the number of outstanding reviews we have received for our work - past and current.  This job is an acid stain and acid stains are very unique and are always challenging to do.  We explain this to all of our clients as the...

concrete and its condition can and do make rooms look totally different when done.  The installer on this job has done 100's of these and is well versed in the product.  Additionally, we always do a large sample as noted in Mr. [redacted]s complaint to allow a client to see the color, texture and inconsistencies prior to finishing a job.  We ask for a signature accepting the color, texture and variations and Mr. [redacted] did sign off on all of these items (see attached) as proof of out intent to truly get the client to be involved with the process and avoid these types of issues.  Acid stains are beautiful by nature but they are also very artistic, un-controlable and always unique.  As for the complaint, Mr. [redacted] is an exceptionally nice gentleman and until this complaint had nothing but praise for our work (we have already used this job for 2 client reviews which both went with us because of this floor) so we are having a difficult [redacted]e understanding the issues he has expressed in this complaint.  I personally spoke to him after the complaint and his only real concern was that he felt the sealer was lacking in a few areas (based on how porous the concrete or coating will dictate how much sealer is absorbed and will give the floor the acid high/low look) so we sent the installer back out (after this complaint) and he sealed a few areas of concern (he was able to put water on the floor to show Mr. [redacted] it was sealed already) and reviewed a few ares of concern Mr. [redacted] had on color.  Mr. [redacted] refused to talk resolve (he was video recording the entire meeting) so we have not come to a resolve to solve the color issues he has at this [redacted]e?  Our installer did offer a few options and advised with an acid less is more as adding color after the fact can also cause issues of its own so, we are now awaiting Mr. [redacted]s response. As for our philosophy, we do not have issues or repairs, we have opportunities.  We have clients who contact us well after the warrantys are up and we go do touch up and repaint/seals on their flooring and we give them extended warranties (just ask for our referrals when you talk to us and we will gladly supply you seem past clients to talk to).  We see these are opportunities to see our past clients again and share with them our new products, trades etc.  We have grown year over year 50%+ by delivering exception customer service and taking care of our clients "opportunities" we are truly saddened by Mr. [redacted]s complaint as we know this is a great job and we want Mr. [redacted] to enjoy it as well, not find it less than he had hoped.  Again, please read all of our review before you judge us and ask to talk to our clients and see the pictures of this job and you will be amazed.  Thanks for taking the [redacted]e to read this. Murray and Sons Construction LLC

To whom it may concern, Mr. [redacted] is a personal friend of our sales manager [redacted] and this complaint was completely un-expected.  Mr. [redacted] job is completed as contracted with an additional $850.00 in work completed and not yet paid for.  The play set install was added as a freebe so it has...

no bearing on the final contract price of this job). The swing set has not been installed as the grass installed needed time to take hold prior to the install and the additional rain the past few months has left the area in question very wet (the grass will be damaged if the area is to wet).  After receiving this complaint I personally called/talked to and walked the entire job with Mr. [redacted]  and [redacted] to review all concerns and I found the following:A. No leaks were found on the entire job.  One plugged bubbler head which was located under approx 2 inches of rock sounded like a leak but was not (we have agreed to replace it).  The other possible leak seems to be condensation building up under the lid on the valve box (the entire yard is still very wet from the rains so it was not totally possible to tell were the water was coming from yet).B. The areas of "dead grass" 2 in question are not dead.  The summer bermuda has gone into hibernation and the winter grass has not fully grown in as of yet.  We have agreed to add some additional seed to this area.  C. We have replaced a few heads that did not work properly - no dispute here.  The communication with Mr. [redacted] was thru our sales manager and his friend [redacted] so I am unclear on this part of the complaint but I can assure you [redacted] has taken a proactive role in getting this resolved and he is talking to Mr. [redacted] every few days until his free gesture is competed.  Thx

To whom it may concern, Mr. [redacted] is absolutely correct in that this repair has taken to long to get resolved.  This is a simple repair and it was planned for the end of season when the weather was more accommodating (not so hot) so that we did not have the same amount of die off again (this...

job lost approx 50% of the plants upon the initial completion vs. a typical 15%, plant loss as is anticipated in our hot summer months).  The weather was finally accommodating by Mid November and at that time we assigned this repair to our lead foreman.  It is my understanding (I did follow this repair thru the duration) that there were a number of scheduling conflicts and some drainage issues that needed resolved prior to the repair.  The week of the Revdex.com complaint I had instructed that this repair was our ONLY priority and that it must address ASAP, Unfortunately I was a day late and a dollar short on this.  To address the issue in its entity, we have installed a new foremen who better understands our commitment to our customers and their needs.  I have taken over this repair personally and I have contacted [redacted] directly to get this repair completed in a timelymanner.  In this case we failed to deliver as I expected and that we will rectify.  We look forward to getting this completed and getting a positive review from [redacted] when this is done.  Thx

I am speaking to this client directly.  Thx

To whom it may concern, I have attached the contract in question.  First note the contract clearly states the texture and paint options selected by the client, both of which contradict the clients claims (this complaint is based on fraudulent claims).  Next, the job did take longer than anticipated and the client was kept informed (construction is not always cut and dry).  Lastly, we did send an electrician to check the clients wiring and he found a significant drop in the wires in question leading to the switch and he informed the client this was due to age and deterioration of the wire and yes, the removal and install of the fan could have contributed to this problem but that is what the client contracted to have done, we did not anticipate a problem after the work was completed but we have done our best to try to resolve it (we offered to rewire the line for $350.00 our cost).  At this time, the client has disputed the charge and has received back 50% of the job cost.  This is the same amount that we quoted to re run the defective wire in question so we believe this matter should be settled.  We stand willing to accommodate the client within reason to resolve this matter but we are also ready to look at legal options if she continues to make false accusations. Please let us know how to proceed to get this matter handled with you?  Thx [redacted] Murray and Sons Construction LLC
