National Readers of North America Reviews (97)

Review: Hello,

I received a phone call from a company called National Readers of North America. They told me I can get a watch or something and offered me to subscribe for some type of magazines. They were quite pushy and I was a little frustrated, but the offer itself sounded nice. I was not completely made a ware that I was about to sign up for a few years of paying to these guys for magazines I do not wish to receive anymore. Speaking of which, I haven't even received anything yet at all. I have been charged on my credit card by [redacted] for $56.22

Then I called them and asked to unsubscribe. when the lady on the phone was extremely rude and sounded angry. She told me the time to unsubscribe has passed and I can never stop paying until the full prepaid price is paid off. Then I realized I have been entered into a contract to pay for years ahead.

What bugs me even further is that the time that has passed was a week off, and they were so so rude to me. I dont deserve such treatment for any reason I believe.

I desperately want to end this contract and don't want any business from them.

Thank you guys in advance for your attention. Hope you can help meDesired Settlement: I would love to be refunded, since I didn't receive anything for my money, only headaches.

However, most importantly I want the charges to stop and the contract ended. If I don't get my $50, thats just for my lesson not to trust these companies.

Response:

I am writing this as a response to the complaint received from Mr. [redacted]. It is unfortunate that any issues arose during his service with National Readers of North America.

According to the file on record for Mr. [redacted], it appears that he ordered our service on September 25, 2014. On that date, Mr. [redacted] spoke with a Supervisor who explained all of the details of our service along with pricing and the cancellation policy. After Mr. [redacted] agreed and made the first payment, we sent him an order confirmation outlining the terms of service agreed upon. Each of our orders is subject to cancellation within three days of the original purchase date.

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to this issue and at this time we have cancelled Mr. [redacted]’s account. As of today, we have cancelled all of his magazine subscriptions. This make take anywhere from six to eight weeks until the issues cease to arrive if they have begun. To avoid any future contact with Mr. [redacted], his telephone number has been placed on our Do Not Call list.

Here at National Readers of North America, we sincerely hope that this issue has now been resolved to the customers’ satisfaction. If there is anything more we can do to assist in this matter, please contact us right away.

Sincerely,

National Readers of North America

Review: I was contacted by National Readers of America a couple months ago. I was told by the female on the line that my name was entered in some kind of sweepstakes and I won a gift card for like $250,000 dollars, I listened more to what she had to say and later on the $250,000 turned into $250. She was telling me so many different things so fast that I was just trying to process everything that she was saying, to be honest my mind was still on the $250 part of the conversation, and the next thing I know, I was speaking to a "Supervisor". He was just confirming what the first caller was explaining to me, and being that all I wanted was this money that they said I won through a sweepstake, I listened on to what he had to say about what I had to do to receive my supposed prize. The next thing I knew, he was saying that in order to get my prize money, I just needed to purchase a magazine for like $14.99 or something, so I agreed, because $15 dollars compared to the $250 I was supposedly winning didn't seem like a bad idea to me. After all his explanations and giving him my credit card info, he then tells me some crazy bs about they're going to charge my card $50 some dollars and that's basically paying for the first 3 months of magazine subscriptions, I was just so confused, because first the prize money amount went from $250,000 to only $250, and then the 1 magazine of $15 some dollars turned into a 3 year subscription/contract where they would charge my CC $50 a month for a year to cut the 3 years down, and then, he was reading back my CC information to confirm it, and it wasn't even my credit card number or anything, he was reading back someone else's credit card information!! I could've easily said, yeah that's my card number and yeah you can go ahead and bill it, but I was honest about it and told him NO that's not my credit card information. So all of this I guess was being recorded? He then went into the cancellation policy and said that I had like 10 days or so to cancel, I asked him specifically if I could cancel after the 10 days and he kept giving me confusing answers, so I kept pushing that one fact "If I can cancel after the 10 days" and finally said yeah yeah there's a 1-800 number that I would have to call and they'll assist me with the cancellation, so I said okay. I believe a month later I had a call from them saying that they couldn't process my CC for the month and needed new CC information, it was at that time that I told her that I was not interest in the magazines anymore, because from what I understood, I could cancel after the 10 days. I got another call 2 weeks later from another lady from the billing department, apparently the first time I told them I was no longer interested, they put it down as refusal of payment. I explained to her that it wasn't a refusal of payment, I just wanted to cancel completely! She then told me that they have it on a recording that I agreed to the cancellation policy and that after 10 days there will be no cancellation, I told her that if she listens to the whole recording, then she'll hear me ask several times about cancelling after the 10 days and being told that I could do it. She then told me that she'll play the recording for me, I heard the part about the not being able to cancel after 10 days and me agreeing, but the part that I repeatedly asked about cancelling after the 10 days and being told that I could was not in the recording. After the recording she then tells me "So we're not going to cancel because you just heard the tape" Again I told her that all I wanted to do was cancel my account, I can't afford it, and not only that, I didn't receive what I was promised, the whole reason why I was in this mess, the $250 gift card, or any magazines, so I told her that I'm not going to continue paying for something that I have yet to receive! She then says "No, we're not cancelling" I was getting frustrated, she then threatens me with "If you don't pay for the entire time of the contract (3 years) then we're going to forward your account to a credit agency and it's going to ruin your credit" I was disgusted, frustrated and very upset, that a company that wasn't sending me anything, was now threatening me to make a payment for something that I was no longer interested in. I told her I didn't care I just wanted to cancel my account and that's it, she tells me "You know what, I'm not gonna sit here and argue with you, have a good day bye!" and she just hung up, she didn't offer to transfer me to a supervisor or management or anything, and a week later I get another call about payment. I was still upset about the last phone call I had with them, so I told the lady again, I just want to CANCEL my account. She says "Well you heard the tape already" and I told here "Yeah I did hear the tape, and it was NOT the whole recording, so next time you try to threaten someone with a tape recording, make sure you play it from the very beginning, not just from the point that you guys want to hear!" She didn't say anything, there was a long pause, so I just hung up. They trick you, and then they harass you for payment afterwards even though they don't send you anything, I told them that I haven't received a single item from them, not even the $250 prize, and they said they sent some kind of form that I had to fill out first, but I didn't even receive that either!Desired Settlement: I would like the business to refund whatever amount they charged me and to completely stop contacting me!

I am writing this as a response to the

complaint received from [redacted]. It is unfortunate that any issues

arose during her service with National Readers of North America.

Review: The issue started with high sales pressure as I received numerous (5+) calls per day. Then an unauthorized charge appeared on my credit card and I cancelled the card and the credit card took care of the charges. From there I received calls daily (5-10) demanding I pay the balance on my account, claiming I ordered 4 magazine subscriptions @ 57.50 per month which is absolutely outrageous for 4 magazine subscriptions. I have received NO magazines from this company and would really like it they stopped harassing me and my husband. They do not even have my proper name on file the name they have is [redacted]. They now have sent a letter claiming I owe them 325.38. I have read numerous cases online of this company being a fraud and have reported it to Canadian anti fraud agencies. The bill I received recently also says if I do not pay the balance in 15 days that they will forward the account to collections to have them deal with it. I would not like it to go there and I really need help with this.Desired Settlement: I would want them to stop contacting me by any form of communication as well as have my 'balance' of 325.38 not charged as I have not received any services from this company.

Response:

We have received your letter dated February 4,

2014 regarding the complaint you received from Mrs. [redacted]. We

sincerely regret she encountered a problem with Magazine Publisher’s Service.

Review: I recieved a call from this magazine ad saying that I would get a watch and 3 subscriptions for 5 years. At first they said this was all free no charges. Then they sent me to the supervisor for my account, he then recorded the call. So after I gave him all my information, they have taken out the first payment at this time. Soon after I got off the phone I then called my mother to tell her about this, she then told me it was a scam. So I called the number back within the hour to tell them to destroy all my information and cancel the account. The lady I spoke to, [redacted],I asked her for the customer service number so I can call and cancel everything. Then she told me I had to wait for this letter in the mail for the order number and then it would have the customer service number stated on this letter. Soon as I got off the phoe with [redacted], I called my credit card company to cancel my card and to recieve a new card. So then I waited for the letter to arrive, I recieved this letter maybe a day ago. And I tried calling as soon as I recieved it but of course it was past their business hours. So today I called today and spoke with a man, and explained my story on what happened and what I wanted. He told me it was past the cancellation time. Which in fact I already called to cancelled. He proceeded to speak over me and was rude. When I tried talking because I'm a human being and deserve the right of speech, he hung up the phone on me. So I called back and spoke with [redacted], I asked to speak to a manager. She said there was no manager in today but she stated she was a supervisor. Okay fine, I continued to explain myself as calmly as possible. And she would just repeat over your past the cancellation time that I was clearly stated in the recording. There was no number on my charge on my credit card, I faxed the charge history to prove this. She said it will go to corporate. So I havent recieved anything from them but this letter. She was rude, not customer friendly for a supervisor. I'm disgusted.Desired Settlement: I want my information with them to be deleted off their system and the account to be cancelled without any penalties or charges. I am NOT going to pay anymore money into this business. I have cancelled the credit card they had on file, and I do NOT want to end up having this account sent to a credit agency, because I will NOT stand for them to mess up my life or credit because they want to rip people off. I will take the lose on the $64.22 they have charged on my account already.

Review: I was bullied into subscribing to National Readers of North America on 7/29/14. I received my letter in the mail after the ten day cancellation period was up. I have received two magazines from this "business" as of 10/1/14 and they are unwilling to cancel my subscription.Desired Settlement: I want my subscription to be canceled along with delivery of the magazines.

Review: On July 2nd I was contacted by an operator from National Readers to sell me magazines. I initially refused to provide any credit card information but was assured the account would be protected and it was not a scam and further the card is backed by the FDIC. After agreeing to buy magazines I began researching the company and decided to cancel as I was told I could cancel the contract within 10 business days. On July 7th, I submitted an e-mail to the company asking for the subscription to be cancelled. I missed a phone call from [redacted] and called back requesting the cancellation. She stated the initial payment of $57.50 was non-refundable and had been explained prior to authorization and suggested a magazine be ordered so the money would not be wasted. I advised her I was not advised of the non-refundable payment and if told I would not have authorized the payment. [redacted] began talking over me and raising her voice in an unprofessional manner and I requested a supervisor and she stated she was the supervisor. I was unable to explain the situation and was constantly interrupted and talked over and being told I said "Yes" to the terms and the terms were thoroughly explained. I again attempted to advise she was not on the call and is not aware of what did or didn't transpire and asked for a supervisor once again and was told she was "IT".Desired Settlement: I would appreciate if this entire contract is cancelled and I be refunded the $57.50 and my name and phone number(s) be removed from the company's records.

Review: I was contacted via cell phone for a one year magazine subscription. Recently I called the company to cancel the magazine subscription of $57.50 a month, informing them that I am 20 years old, just finished school , have a part time job and can not afford these payments. I spoke to customer service and they stated that I could not cancel ,however they did say that if I paid $400.00 then they would be willing to cancel the subscription. I requested to speak to a manager and she refused to get someone to speak to me.

I do not owe any retro payments since they have secured receiving payments through direct withdrawal from my bank account. I just want to cancel this subscription and stop receiving magazines.

I did a search on line and found others with the same issue and no resolutionDesired Settlement: I want to cancel this subscription :not receive any magazines and not be responsible for continuing to pay $57.50 a month

Review: I was contacted by phone by this co. soliciting magazine subscriptions with a promise

of a gift card and other incentives to subcribe. I did not request any subscriptions but began to receive

issues from many magizines that I did not order. Now I am getting several phone calls a day demanding payment

for these subscriptions that I don't want.

I have called this co. many times to put an end to this situation but all they say is that they can not

cancel this contract that I never wanted and if I do not pay them they will send my account to a outside

collection agency.Desired Settlement: I would like this contract to be cancelled, the balance to be removed with no effect to my credit report

and no further contact with this company.

Review: I was cold called by this organization and duped into allowing them to send me magazines. I was ill at the time and foolishly gave them my credit card number. I believe that the caller was coached to take advantage of me as I did not realize what I was getting into. I was led to believe that I could cancel at any time. The magazines started arriving and money was taken from my account. I quickly realized that I did not want this service so thinking there was no issue with canceling, I called the company and asked them to stop sending magazines. They claim that I cannot stop them sending magazines, and they will continue taking money from my account. They are taking $57.50 each month. It is unclear how long they intend to go on like this, as supposedly the end date is printed on a sticker that comes with each magazine. However this date is varies from June 2015 to late 2017.

They have been threatening and aggressive to me on the most recent call where I again asked them to stop sending these magazines. My husband googled "nationalreaders scam" and found numerous reports of other consumers who have had similar experiences with this company. I have reported them to the MA attorney generals office as I believe that this company's sales approach is essentially a form of entrapment and they intentionally prey on people and take advantage. I want them to stop sending me magazines and to stop contacting me.Desired Settlement: I want no more dealings with this company.

Review: My Mother *. [redacted] (I am her daughter [redacted], and Power of Attorney) had an account with National Readers of North America that she still does not really remember how she even got signed up. She was told of an offer with select magazines, none of which she would read. I told her to immediately cancel the account which she did verbally ask the company to cancel. All magazines they sent were returned to sender all bills that were received were returned with cancel written across them or return to sender written across them. My Mom has not actually kept anything that has been sent to her by this company. She can not sign or open accounts on her own because her mental state is questionable more often than not. She is a retired widow on a fixed income and this company had electronically received payments for magazines that she keeps returning and has not received any in many months now anyway. Her bank card number was stolen and luckily the bank notified us immediately of questionable charges. So bank card number this company had, has been canceled and since they can't swipe money from her account call and text her daily; sometimes up to 8 times a day and even Sundays and even late at night outside business hours. She has had some telephone calls from the people in their billing/collection department get snotty with her, verbally aggressive with her and get her extremely upset. She has even been hung up on by a few of these people and she keeps telling them to cancel the account. My Mother is 75 years old, she has a major heart problem being Atrial fibrillation that she has been in and out of the hospital many times in the past year and a half. When she gets upset it can and has tossed her heart to go into arrhythmia and is at an extremely high risk of heart attack and stroke. She has had two Cardioversions done 11 months apart. If she has another episode of arrhythmia again they will have to do a Cardio Ablation which is extremely high risky for her at her age as well as being diabetic and having a Radical Mastectomy done they only can put an IV in 1 arm or run a straight line shunt to her heart. I spoke with a supervisor at National Readers on September 15, 2014 at 3pm explained that my mother 1 is not in charge of her finances I am, because she can not make proper financial decisions. 2 she can not even sign contracts on her own, my signature has to be on it, because of the Power of Attorney. Mr. [redacted] the supervisor I spoke with asked for proof by faxing him a copy of the Power of Attorney and that once the Power of Attorney was received he would terminate the account and erase said charges on the account. The account has not been terminated instead they send a threat to toss this into collection and to check her employment and tacked on another $62.50 in charges. My mom is retired she lives on a fixed income and this company keeps sending bills for magazines she did not need, want and has sent back and asked to cancel the account, and this company was receiving money from her account that they should not have been getting in the 1st place.Desired Settlement: To terminate the account erase the account balance of $302.50 (the balance that was on the last letter to collect that was received on 9-30-2014)

Review: I was contacted on October 29th, 2013 with a telephone magazine subscription offer that involved paying for 3 magazine subscriptions with an additional 3 free magazines to be chosen when I received the subscription confirmation in the mail. When I agreed to this, I was then asked to listen to the promotion again while being recorded to confirm that that information was correct. THIS TIME, THE PRESENTATION WAS PRESENTED SO QUICKLY THAT IT WAS PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE SPEAKER WAS SAYING. HE WOULD THEN STOP PERIODICALLY TO CONFIRM THAT I AGREED TO WHAT HE HAD JUST STATED. WHEN I STOPPED HIM with a question(AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE RECORDING WAS STOPPED BECAUSE I DIDN'T SAY YES TO A PARTICULAR QUESTION.) The recording was then restarted from the beginning WITH HIM SPEAKING EVEN FASTER THAN THE FIRST ATTEMPT...TO WHICH I RELUCTANTLY AGREED JUST TO GET THROUGH THE PROCESS.At one point I stopped the salesperson to confirm, how much time and from which date I could cancel the agreement and was told the two weeks would not begin until I received a contract confirmation in the mail. Then when the confirmation arrived and I contacted them with my concerns, I was told I only had three days to cancel (which I think is what they forced me to agree to in the recorded version of the contract agreement. It took a week for the confirmation to arrive and then information that was promised (a list of magazines from which I could choose my free subscriptions and to change the initial ones AT ANY TIME). When I called today to ask why there was no list in the mailed confirmation, I was directed to the website and a short list of 17 Canadian Magazines and 18 U.S. (electronic) magazines were listed, with little or no information about obscure publications, most of which I have never heard. In the telephone promotion, I was promised a list of 100s of magazines to choose from. I also note that the mailing address on the confirmation (and free watch request) is a Montana Post officeDesired Settlement: Subscription cancelled and initial payment refunded.

Review: This issue started in June or July of 2014, this company called my cell phone one day stating they were honoring visa... and had a promotion where I would receive a watch with a diamond, free magazines and a welcome packet to change magazines after everything was said and done. Some of this is vague to me as I was on [redacted] and [redacted]. Both from the army as I was recently in a ied incident. Anyways, September came around and my wife had noticed 4 charges from this company and no product... so I called my bank and cancelled my card. On the 28th of September I believe a woman called my mother asking where I was, she told them I was at work and the woman hung up on her. They called me and right from the get go was rude. I told her I shut the card off because of your company. I told her I never received the watch, the magazines nor the welcome packet. I asked her to cancel the service and she no that I couldn't she told me that I needed to pay or I was going to collects... which is a bullying tactic! I hung the phone up and my wife proceeded to call to get this "verbal contract" they sent it too her and during the conversation you can tell I was out of it from the drugs and during this recording I said I don't want the magazines and proceeded to tell me it's too late the first payment went thru. That's when they shut the recording off I know I told them to cancel it and yet they call me twice a day. The few altercations that I have had with them on the phone blew up out of proportion, telling me I need to pay my bill and collections will come for me if I dont. Long story short everything that I have read in the other complaints is the exact same thing with me. But I also want to say that while they called me they gave me a bogus call back number, when they finally called to get my money from me they called there selves NRI. I'm tired of the harassing phone calls I asked mmultiple times to cancel and I sent there magazines back that I now have just received which by the way 116 dollars pulled out dosent equal out to 7 magazines!.Desired Settlement: Too stop calling me, to erase my account and place Me on the do not call list. Also to place me at a zero balance.

Review: I remember just getting home from A.I.T. in the Army. It's been a long time so I don't remember if it was April or May of 2013 when I got a call about me winning a contest for a watch. The lady on the phone told me that I would have to subscribe to a monthly magazine subscription and that the watch would be sent in the mail. I told her I did not want any magazines and that she could just send the watch. She told me you could just try and cancel the subscription later on if you do not want it. I told her fine and asked when the watch would come in. She answered quickly enough for me not to understand and moved right on to billing questions after she answered. She told me that the subscription was 57. 50 each month but if I cancel in 10 days my money would be refunded. I said ok. She then transferred me to another lady who read me the agreements, terms, and cancellation policy that she recorded. At the end she told me stopped recording and that the magazines would be at my house next week along with a letter describing the agreement and cancellation policy.

Two days later, I tried calling back the number that called me to cancel the subscription. Whenever I did there was an automated message saying that no one was available and to wait for someone to pick up or I would get a dial tone. Two times I even waited at least an hour on the phone and nothing happened. No one answered. One week from the day I agreed to this service, not one magazine, not one letter. I contacted my bank and notified them of fraud when I saw 57.50 taken out of my account. I then got a call about two weeks later from National Readers of North America stating that I am late on my payments. I told them that I never received what I was supposed to receive from them. I told them that magazines have never been received at my house and that the letter they sent me never came. The lady told me it usually takes about a month or two for magazines to come in. That is a long wait for this service I was promised would come in a week or two. I told her I wanted to cancel, but she told me that it was past the point of cancellation and that the service was prepaid and I needed to pay it off for 3 years. At this point I believed that this company was shady and fraudulent. If you're wondering I never received the watch I "won". A month went by and not one magazine was received but another call was. I got a call saying that I owe them 3 payments of 57.50 immediately. I told her that this is not possible. I paid 57.50 this time because she told me that the account was prepaid and they are out money because of me. I'm a nice guy so I don't like people being out money because of me. She told me that next month my account would be turned over to a collection agency if this happened again. Whenever I tried to speak about the magazines and the letter not showing up she would speak over me or change the subject.

This is around August or September when my account was moved to the collection agency [redacted]. I already believed the two companies to be working together because of the names and the way [redacted] callers constantly reminded me that they work with many other companies and not just this company. Which is true because I searched up National Readers of North America and found that they have a few different names with the same phone numbers. They explained to me that I would need to pay for the service or I would face court because I agreed to pay 57.50 each month. The workers were always rude. I explained to them that I never received the magazines or any letters but they did not care. One of the callers constantly suggest that I pay it so that I do receive magazines. I told him I am not going to pay for something I did not receive. He told me that I would need to make the balance 57.50 so that I would become a respectable customer or something along those lines, and that I would start receiving magazines then. I was very suspicious of how he knew about the magazines and the inner workings of the National Reader's of North America's processes when most debt collector process I know of only collect the money and don't come off as another caller from the company they are collecting from. Another month went by and another payment as well. Not one magazine was received.

This is the time that I was in college with little money to live on. I even spoke about this to the collectors of [redacted]. During my first semester from August to December of 2013 I ended up paying them so they would stop threatening me with court. I told them I don't have much money but they said they do not care and they would take it to court if they are not paid.

My next semester in college I started paying them less, not only because I did not have much money, but because I started to see through this. I made a payment on the National Reader's of North America website for $10.50 because a man called and told me that I need some payment on the account. This led me to suspicion because National Reader's of North America said that they were done with me and that all collections would be made through [redacted]. I should not be able to make a payment through the National Reader's website if they are done with me. This leads me to believe that this is a scam and National Reader's and [redacted] are working together and [redacted] is an inside collection agency of National Reader's.

I would also like to point out that the main one who contacts me now said that in May 2014 I would see a notice to appear in court so that they may settle this by taking my possessions or making some arrangement. He also told me that he "researched my assets" and continues to threaten me with court. I don't know what assets he is talking about but I joined the Army straight out of high school. I don't have anything but a phone and a laptop.

I've wasted so much money on this service I have never received to get a watch I "won" and never received. I would like my account cancelled and my money refunded as well as the watch I "won".Desired Settlement: I would like further calls to cease and every penny I wasted in this company to be refunded by check or through my card.

Response:

I am writing this as a response to the

complaint received from Mr. [redacted]. It is unfortunate that any issues

arose during his service with National Readers of North America.

According

to the file on record for Mr. [redacted], it

appears that he ordered our service on July 26, 2013. On that date, Mr. [redacted]

spoke with a Supervisor who explained all of the details of our service along

with pricing and the cancelation policy. After Mr. [redacted]

agreed and made the first payment, we sent him an order confirmation outlining

the terms of service agreed upon. Each of our orders is subject to cancelation

within three days of the original purchase date.

We

appreciate the opportunity to respond to this issue and at this time we have

cancelled Mr. [redacted]’s

account. We have also issued a full refund to Mr. [redacted]

in the amount of $140.50. There will be no further attempts to collect payment

and his account has been set to a zero balance. As of today, we have canceled

all of his magazine subscriptions. This make take anywhere from six to eight

weeks until the issues cease to arrive.

To avoid

any future contact with Mr. [redacted], his

telephone number has been placed on our Do Not Call list.

Here at

National Readers of North America, we sincerely hope that this issue has now

been resolved to the customers’ satisfaction. If there is anything more we can

do to assist in this matter, please contact us right away.

Revdex.com,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The cancellation is acceptable, but the business stated that a full refund be paid to me in the amount of $140.50. I spent more than that on this company because I know I made at least 2-4 payments of $57.50 and then a payment of $125.00. There were also smaller payments from $5 to $10. It is not full if I made that many payments with those amounts and the "full" refund becomes $140.50.

According

to the file on record for Mr. [redacted], there

was a total of three payments made. On July 26, 2013 the initial payment of

$57.50 was paid. However, Mr. [redacted] had his bank process a chargeback on this

payment. This occurred on August 26th, 2013. That means he already

received a refund for that payment. The next payment he made was on December

13, 2013 in the amount of $130.00. Then, on April 8, 2014 Mr. [redacted] paid

$10.50. This makes $140.50 a refund in full of the remaining monies paid to us.

We cannot refund the $57.50 as this was already done by Mr. [redacted] through his

bank. Every payment he made to us has been refunded.

Review: This company called me to get me to sign up for a magazine subscription and I agreed even though I didn't fully understand the details of it. I even said that I wasn't comfortable and tried to back out. I tried hanging up and they phoned back right away. I called them back a month later and wanted out of the subscription. The lady I talked to said I was late but she would make the exception. In the mail I received a notice that I was late. I thought I was done with this company. Two months later I get a call from them and a lady said that my payment didn't go through on my credit card. I told her that was because I had cancelled the subscription. We hung up. I contacted my credit card company and told them not to let that payment go through. Get another phone call saying that I am late and owe more money. I haven't received any magazines in a long time.Desired Settlement: I just want this to be done. I don't want to keep answering the phone and hearing the same thing. I felt bullied into agreeing to the subscription in the first place.

We have received your letter dated September

sincerely regret she encountered a problem with Magazine Publisher’s Service.

Review: Dear Revdex.com-

I was contacted (on my cell phone) by National Reader of North America, [redacted], to subscribe to a magazine subscription. I decided I did not want this magazine and called them on November 5, to cancel the subscription. They said I could only cancel it if I paid it off, which they totaled to over $500.00. I received a statement from them showing that they deducted $42.17 from my credit card on October 15, 2013. They have since been calling me and sent me an "order agreement" showing that I ordered 5 magazine subscriptions. I do not want any of their magazines. I received 2 magazines a few weeks ago and today I received 2 different magazines. I want this subscription stopped and I want my money refunded. Please advise me as to what I can do. I am also forwarding this e-mail to the attorney general's office to help prevent others from being taken advantage of by this company.

I have attached a copy of their order confirmation to you. Thank you for any assistance you can give.Desired Settlement: see above

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this as a response to the complaint received from Ms. [redacted]. It is unfortunate that any issues arose during her service with National Readers of North America.

According to the file on record for Ms. [redacted], it appears that she ordered our service on June 29, 2015. On that date, Ms. [redacted] spoke with a Supervisor who explained all of the details of our service along with pricing and the cancellation policy. After Ms. [redacted] agreed and made the first payment, we sent her an order confirmation outlining the terms of service agreed upon. Each of our orders is subject to cancellation within three days of the original purchase date. I am not sure why Ms. [redacted] is claiming she didn’t order our service when we have records of this occurring. Also, we were sent an e-mail on November 11, 2015 with an address update to change the magazines from the original address listed at the time of purchase to the current address which is also listed on the complaint we received. It is okay though because we understand that people change their minds at times. So, as of today we have cancelled Ms. [redacted]s’ account. There will be no further attempts to collect payment and her account has been set to a zero balance. There is no monetary amount to refund as both of her payments were charged back previously. Each payment was for the amount of $57.50 and both were charged back on August 31, 2015. At this time, we have also cancelled all of her magazine subscriptions. This make take anywhere from six to eight weeks until the issues cease to arrive. To avoid any future contact with Ms. [redacted], her telephone number has been placed on our Do Not Call list.

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to this issue. At National Readers of North America, we sincerely hope that this issue has now been resolved to the customers’ satisfaction. If there is anything more we can do to assist in this matter, please contact us right away.

Review: Magazine Publishers are billing me for magazines I did not order. I did not order anything from these people. They are sending me 4 magazines on a monthly basis. I have sent them back also notifying them I did not order this. They maintain that I did order these magazines and produced a recording of my alleged voice ordering these magazines. I of course denied this. The also have recorded me when I contacted them without telling me. I questioned them and then after a long pause they admitted. Is this not illegal? They have now increased the number of calls which I ignore. I have call display which enables me to do this. I have reported this to the police and they told me to ignore it. The police said they are a fraud Since then these people {the magazine}have increased their calls. Since I did not order any thing I don't have names of sales people.. The phone collectors names are [redacted] and [redacted].Desired Settlement: Stop these people from harassing me asap.

Review: I was contacted in October by National Readers of North America. The number they called me from is [redacted]. I was told that I could cancel within 10 days and gave them my information on the phone for my bank. They only told me that I could call back and cancel. Within the 10 days, I called the same number back to cancel. It was a recording, in which I was asked a few questions and I thought it was taken care of. There was no other number I had, the representative did not give me any other number. Recently, I was called to collect the over $628 but was told that they would cut it in half to $314. I called them to tell them that I cancelled. They told me that the call I made within the 10 days was a no call list. It was the only phone number I had. They told me that I should've gotten the phone number off my bank statement, and that I should've spoken to a person. This was not stated to me in the beginning. Even the following calls were from this same number. She said that she would work a deal of half the price threatening collections. I agreed, only because of the threats. I am young and inexperienced and it scared me, but I know that I tried to cancel. Only got recordings. Surprisingly, after the 10 days, I was able to talk to someone.Desired Settlement: I would simply want this cancelled without any charges.
