Review: I had signed up for this magazine service back in October 2012. I was told I could cancel at anytime, that the company had a great selection of hundreds of magazines and that I would be charged %7.50 per month. I was told I could switch magazine selections every month if I so chose from this great selection. Now they will not let me cancel at all even though I have requested cancellation many times, I have found out that there is no real selection of magazines to choose from and they are charging my credit card 70 dollars a month which I did not agree to at all!! They say if I want to cancel I have to pay almost 500$ although I was told I could cancel anytime.Desired Settlement: All I want is the service to stop and to have this company stop charging me for items I don't want. I refuse to pay almost 500$ for a service I don't even want. That's all I want , no refund or anything just to stop the service and the charges from this fraudulent company.

We have received your letter dated January 25,

2014 regarding the complaint you received from Ms. [redacted]. We

sincerely regret she encountered a problem with Magazine Publisher’s Service.

Review: I have Fibromyalgia and memory issues. I don't remember agreeing to magazines. I have asked to have these magazines canceled as we don't receive them anyway. They refused to cancel the subscription so my husband cut up my debit card and will not allow me to use his. Between him and myself they (National Readers of North America) call our phones about 10 to 15 times a day. I get at least 5 voicemails from them per day. They refuse to play the recording for my husband where I supposedly agreed to the magazines. They played him the one where they coach me into what to say after I had already told them that I have memory issues. They are very rude and nasty, it is so bad that I usually do not answer them because they don't listen and they are rude. Today I answered one of their calls and the rep was so very rude and nasty and said that Fibromyalgia does not affect your memory and if I know they call me 15 times a day then I don't have it. I was unaware that they employ doctors to make the calls. They said they need a fax from my doctor to prove that I have Fibro. I should not have to prove anything, I have a sheet that my doctor gave me for Disability, but they wont accept that. I just want the harassment to stop, I don't get their magazines nor do I want them. I am just so very tired of the harassment. I have informed them that I will be notifying the Revdex.com and that we will no longer answer their calls.Desired Settlement: I just want all the calls and sending me bills (for magazines that I don't receive) to stop.

I am writing this as a response to the

complaint received from Mrs. [redacted]. It is unfortunate that any issues

arose during her service with National Readers of North America.

Review: I received a phone call from these people asking me if I was interested in receiving a 5 year subscription to certain magazines at a discounted price with a $90 down payment and then $57.50 per month for a year. They also promised me a watch which I have never received. To this date I have not received any magazines at all and they refuse to take my request for a cancellation. They said it's past the cancellation date. I received the first bill in the mail on January 27th and called them to cancel after I found this link [redacted]

It seems I'm not the only one that has been scammed. They told me this (copied and pasted from their email)

Dear [redacted],

We received your request to cancel the Subscriptions you ordered from Magazine Publisher Service.

Please consider the following:

1) You placed an order with our company and to show good faith, you paid the required down payment.

2) We called to verify the order and to address all questions and/or concerns you might have. Note: FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE, THIS CALL WAS RECORDED.

3) At the time of Verification, you were in full agreement.

4) On the strength of your word and the fact that you paid a non-refundable deposit, we went to considerable expense on your behalf by processing and entering the order with the publishers.

For the reasons listed above, we are rightfully requesting the agreed upon monthly payments. However, our company is aware of the fact that circumstances change and people sometimes reconsider.

For that reason, we offer an 'Early Termination Option'. By paying 90% of the total balance early, you are free to terminate the agreement at any time.

Choosing the option will have no effect on your credit rating with our company. You may simply call [redacted]. Our representatives will accept a Credit/Debit card by Phone.

In the event you choose to continue service, simply arrange to make the agreed upon monthly payments.

Very Sincerely,

Customer Service

I called them and they were very rude on the phone. They told me that I had a 3 day cancellation policy but that they were nice and upgraded it to a 10 day cancellation and that I was past the 10 days. But I did not receive the first bill until January 27th with the letter stating the cancellation policy!

I would like to cancel this before I am out any further funds for nothing! Even though they told me that no other payments would go through on my credit card, only the initial payment, they have tried to take the money off my credit card! My card was maxed out so it did not go through. I will be cancelling that credit card to avoid any further charges. I am expected to pay for a product I am not even receiving and by the looks of things no one else receives the products either. I will also be going to the police.Desired Settlement: Refund of Deposit and no further charges!

Response:

We have received your letter regarding the complaint you received from Ms. [redacted]. We sincerely regret she encountered a problem with Magazine Publisher’s Service.

Our company records show Ms. [redacted] ordered our service on January 6, 2016. During that initial sales call Ms. [redacted] spoke with a Supervisor who went over the price, terms and agreement of the sale. Once Ms. [redacted] expressed her satisfaction, an order-confirmation was sent to the address she provided. All orders are subject to cancellation 3 days from the date of sale. Once that third day has lapsed the order is submitted to the various Publishers for the full term.

It is unfortunate that there was a misunderstanding in regards to when Ms. [redacted] would begin to receive her subscriptions. Also, that the payments were in US dollars. This causes the amounts to vary due to the exchange rate, of which we have no control over. Due to this, we have issued a full refund in the amount of $60.38 as of today. Please allow 3-5 business days for this to reflect in her account.

We understand that people sometimes change their minds, so in the effort to maintain the highest in customer satisfaction, we have cancelled Ms. [redacted]’s account with no further obligation. We also have cancelled all magazine subscriptions on said account. Please allow 6-8 weeks for all magazines to stop arriving if they do begin to arrive. Further, we have placed her contact information on our company's 'Do Not Call or Mail' list to prevent any future contact.

We appreciate the opportunity to respond. In the event you need any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Revdex.com,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Regards,

Review: I received a blocked phone number call from National Readers of North America and the caller announced he was representing Publishers Clearing House to alert me that I was in the $25,000.00 drawing soon. In addition, I had won either a man's or woman's "Genuine Diamond Watch" and my choice of four magazines, mailed to me at no cost, either for the magazines or shipping and handling. In order to offset the free gifts I was offered an additional 7 magazines of my choice. All of this information with a list of magazines that I could choose would be forthcoming and explained by mail. No list with choice of magazines was included.

Though the first 4 magazines are "free", the other 7, to be received over a 48-month period, I recall, would cost $56.22 per month for 15 month; to a total of $1,011.96. When calling the Member Services "866" number, the pre-recorded message gave a completely different name, "Magazine Reader Service."

To my knowledge, I cancelled my account with them online. Keep in mind that there was a three day period to cancel. They called me several weeks later asking for my payment and I explained to them that I had cancelled, but they refused to allow it because they "pre-paid for the services and it was past the cancellation period and they received no online cancellation."

I told her that this was a scam and they will not get one cent from me so stop sending the magazines and where can I send them back.Desired Settlement: to stop sending my the product . I am willing to send back the products that have come, they lied and I will not send any money.

Review: Back in July 2013 I received a phone call from this company about magazines, the list of magazines they read off on the phone were to me girly magazines and what I described to the lady, they were like fashion, make-up magazines that do not interest me. I was assured that I could change my magazines at anytime on the website. I agreed to the deal and to charge my bank account, when we were done I checked the website to see if there were magazine I would be interested in since I was advised that I could cancel within 10 days, there were magazines I was interested in so when my invoice came with my account number I changed the magazines. I go an email: [redacted]

Review: National Readers of North America have alleged that I have magazine subscription order through them, and that I owe them $800.00 for magazines. I have contacted them, and collection agencies, in writing, at least 3 times, that I did not, nor have I ever, purchased any magazine subscriptions from them, and that I do not know how they obtained my personal information and credit card number. I know that they absolutely did not obtain it from me. This matter has been reported by them and magazine companies, to credit report agencies, which has had an adverse effect on my credit reports. All packaged magazines were returned to sender.Desired Settlement: Credit report is corrected with all credit reporting agencies, in writing, and that a written letter of such report, be sent to me directly. Magazine companies are contacted and corrections are made, and a written letter be sent to me directly, that this matter has been properly settled also. That I want no further contact with them, and that magazines and bills from such companies stop immediately.

Revdex.com,

Regards,

Review: It started as the company consistently contacting me from a block number, which I did not answer until I started to wonder who was trying to contact me via blocked number. When I finally answered their call, they mentioned that they were calling to offer me magazine subscriptions and along with accepting this offer, I would also be receiving a Diamond Gold Watch. I was hesitant with accepting their offer but after the pressure of the sales person, I reluctantly accepted to try their subscription. I spoke with a manager within this call as well to verify information as far terms and conditions. I asked about cancellation times, the amount that would be billed, and how long it would take for me to receive said offer. It wasn't until the "contract" part came that it was mentioned that I was being recorded. They were going to charge me $39 for 7 magazines, but then they charged me twice for the magazines within a span of a week of speaking to them. On my bank statement the charge comes up as Magazine Publishing. I noticed the double charge and proceeded to cancel my debit card with my bank. From then on, I started receiving harassing calls stating I owed money for the subscriptions. This was a little over a month after speaking with them initially. At that time, I had not recieved any product and the woman I spoke to stated I would be sent to collections for non-payment. At that time, I wanted to cancel and did not want to receive anything from them at all. The woman insisted I could not cancel and my account would remain in collections for non payment. After that I ignored the calls that I was consistently getting. And anytime I did answer the phone, I let them know I wanted to be cancelled. One time that I did speak with them, I asked for them to play the recording of me accepting the offer and found some discrepancies. For starters, they only played the part of the phone call when I was accepting the offer which I think is unfair because I remember asking valid questions to verify the subscription but the only part I heard was the "contract" part in which she had me repeating everything that she was stating was apart of the so call terms and conditions, billings, and what and when I would be getting in the mail. They mentioned I had 3 days to cancel in the recording but the woman I spoke to from collections stated I had 10 days to cancel. When I questioned her about not being told about the 10 day cancelation period, she proceeded to say "we do not have to mention the additional 7 day period". I did finally receive a few magazines but have refused them upon receiving them in the mail. I have asked consistently to be cancelled from this "subscription". One woman I recently spoke to told me she would be calling me every Tuesday and even went as far as to say they would be "verifying my employment". I just want to be over this and this completely canceled.Desired Settlement: I would like for this company to stop contacting me and cancel this account. I do not want their subscription or service. I will continue to refuse any mailings I receive as well.

I am writing this as a response to the

complaint received from Ms. [redacted]. It is unfortunate that any issues

arose during her service with National Readers of North America.

Review: On July 2, 2014 I received a call from National Readers of North America. The caller ID on my phone indicated that they were calling from Liberty, Missouri, a local city in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The woman on the phone was trying to sell me magazines and some discount program that I didn't understand for $57.50 per month. In short I was told for the initial $57.50 I could receive several magazines and a gift certificate and I could opt out of the monthly program. Thinking I was speaking to some one local who was promoting reading I reluctantly agreed to the initial $57.50. I was then placed on hold while she got her supervisor on the line. The supervisor, another woman, came on the line and told me they were accredited with the Revdex.com and this was a great program, etc.

Feeling confident that I was speaking to someone local and accredited, I agreed to the initial payment. Within 30 minutes of speaking with them my bank account showed a pending debit for a different amount, $64.98, and the charge at the bank indicated it was coming from National Readers Santa, Rosa CA.I immediately got online to check out the company and found they are not accredited by the Revdex.com, they are not local, in fact I found several addresses this company uses all over the United States. They also had numerous complaints filed against them for high-pressure tactics and lack of products received from them.

Once I had read everything I could find, I called the company on the number in my phone history to cancel my purchase. I was told the program could be cancelled but they would not refund the $57.50. I received a cancellation number, #[redacted] and argued that it had been only been a few hours since my purchase, there was a pending charge to my account different than what I had agreed to, I did not want their products and I just wanted to cancel the entire transaction. I was told again that they were not going to refund my money so I might as well choose a magazine. Feeling completely beaten as I listened to her rattle off names of magazines, I told her if they were not going to refund my money and cancel the transaction to send me the Good Housekeeping magazine. The whole experience was like being ordered to purchase something I did not want. The pending charge of $64.98 changed to $57.50 as it debited my account while my husband urged me to go to our bank and dispute the charge. So that is what I did.

As of this date, 10/2/2014, this company, National Readers of North America, has sent me bills totaling $140 after I cancelled their program. I have received one (1) magazine, which is hardly worth $57.50 and I received one phone call, from a local area according to my caller ID, apologizing for the bills sent after cancellation and telling me that they were going to pursue the matter of getting their $57.50 because I authorized the amount. This representative said she was aware that I had disputed the charge with my bank and she was going to have a final bill sent to me for the $57.50.

What I have learned about this company from this experience is that they misrepresent themselves from the very beginning with their phone calls appearing to come from local area cities, they inundate you with information so that you think you're getting a great deal and doing some good by promoting reading in your area, they claim to be accredited with the Revdex.com all to extort money from you that they refuse to return no matter how unhappy the customer. No matter what National readers of North America tells me, I am entitled to change my mind about a purchase after learning the company's representatives have lied to me by misrepresenting their company, products and services, and I do not have to pay for something that I do not want.Desired Settlement: At this point, since I have already disputed their charges with my bank, if they would just adjust their bill to $0, I would be extremely happy. I would also like to know that they have changed their practices and have become a legitimate company but somehow I doubt that will happen.

Review: On October 15, 2013, my mother [redacted] was solicited by Magazine Publishers Service to purchase magazine subscriptions and according to the invoice that was sent by Magazine Publisher Service she agreed to purchase three magazines ([redacted], Best Health, and Our Canada) for a total of five years. My mother, a senior on a fixed income, has recently suffered a stroke and has memory problems. She has no recollection of this transaction taking place. Then, on November 16th, after receiving an invoice from the company she called and tried to cancel the subscriptions. She was told that it was past the two week cancellation date and that she could not cancel her subscriptions, and was subsequently charged $623.24 for the remainder of the 5 year subscription. This was in addition to the initial $57.50/month charge. My mother was in no condition mentally to make such a purchase, and these are magazines she won't even read. Since this event took place, my mother has moved into a seniors home and I now have power of attorney over her finances. On November 19th, I called Magazine Publishers Service and spoke to [redacted] who told me that there was nothing that could be done because my mother had settled the account and that there was no other managers I could speak to. I was told to email [redacted] at "corporate". My email to [redacted].com went unanswered.Desired Settlement: To settle this claim we would ask that these subscriptions be cancelled immediately (order number [redacted]) and that my mothers credit card be reimbursed for the amount of $680.74.

The letter is dates December 24, 2013. The envelope that it was mailed in was dated December 31, 2013. Seven days after the date of the the letter. I called to explain the situation and was told that I was I was past the cancellation date. I tried to explain the situation but the woman I was talking to started to talk over me and raise her voice which made me upset and I hung up on her. When my husband came home he called her and she refused to talk to him and hung up on him. he called back and she hung up again saying he was rude. She would not let anyone explain and hung up again on him. They have taken 57.50 already from me. I would like my money refunded. This company is a scam.Desired Settlement: I would like my 57.50 refunded. And the cancellation of the subscription.

Review: I received a marketing phone call from this organization and was told I would receive "free" magazines and gift cards because I pay my bills on time. I didn't understand what this was all about and the caller kept pressuring me to accept. As soon as I hung up, I was uncomfortable and immediately tried to call them back at the number from which the call originated. The call was answered by a pre-recorded greeting that did not identify the company and told me to hold "for the next operator." No one every picked up - on my first call or the multiple calls I placed after the first call. I contacted my credit card company immediately after my first failed call to National Readers and told them what had happened. They cancelled the transaction (it had already been processed for a higher fee than I had been told. I also cancelled my credit card so they would not try to charge it again. This was in April. At the end of May, I started being harassed by at least two (2) calls a day from National Readers demanding payment. I told them repeatedly that I had cancelled the transaction immediately through my credit card company and that I had attempted to contact them on multiple occasions. I was told that I couldn't cancel the order and I had to pay. Another caller told me "You just can't do that. It doesn't work that way." No one was willing to talk to me to try and resolve this. The harassing calls continued, with the callers becoming more and more rude. On July 13, I blocked their calls on my phone. On August 3 I received a "final notice" threatening me with employment verification and third party collections. I had only received one other invoice (in May/June) and since I had cancelled the transaction, I threw it away. To date, I have never received any type of order confirmation, terms, rates, etc. I have never been able to talk to anyone except the rude collectors. The magazines continue to me, even though I have repeatedly told them I do not want them, so the charges just keep increasing. I have a good credit rating and take pride in paying my bills on time. I do not, however, plan to pay these charges. National Readers of North America's methods of marketing are manipulative and threatening and their "customer service" is not at all interested in providing service or support to customers. I want this "account" closed, the charges removed, and any notation on my credit report repaired.Desired Settlement: I want this account closed, the charges cleared, and any reflection of this entire situation cleared from my credit report.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this as a response to the complaint received from Ms. Randi B[redacted]. It is unfortunate that any issues arose during her service with National Readers of North America.

According to the file on record for Ms. B[redacted], it appears that she ordered our service on April 15, 2015. On that date, Ms. B[redacted] spoke with a Supervisor who explained all of the details of our service along with pricing and the cancellation policy. After discussing her order with a Sales Representative, a supervisor contacted Ms. B[redacted], and again reviewed the price, selection and terms of the agreement. Only when Ms. B[redacted] indicated she had a thorough understanding of the order and remitted the initial down payment, did we enter the order for the full term with various publishers. Each of our orders is subject to cancellation within three days of the original purchase date.

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to this issue and at this time we have cancelled Ms. B[redacted]’s account. There will be no further attempts to collect payment and her account has been set to a zero balance. There are no payments for us to refund, as her only payment was charged back by the bank at Ms. B[redacted]’s request on July 8, 2015. As of today, we have cancelled all of her magazine subscriptions. This may take anywhere from six to eight weeks for the issues to stop being delivered.

To avoid any future contact with Ms. B[redacted], her telephone number has been placed on our Do Not Call list. National Readers of North America sincerely hopes that this issue has now been resolved to the customers’ satisfaction. If there is anything more we can do to assist in this matter, please contact us right away.

Sincerely,

Abby J[redacted]

Revdex.com,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 10841438 and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Although I do agree with the timeline of events they have stated, the resolution is acceptable.

Review: I have asked on numerous occasions to stop sending their products and cancel the contract, and they have refused to do so. I cannot afford this .their prices are outrageous. I have filed for bankruptcy and they keep sending their products and keep adding up the price they say I owe. their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. They call my house all times of the day and night, five or more times every day. I am not sure of all the dates ,but they told me it goes back to Nov, 2014. I am sure I cancelled back then ,but they tell me I didn't. they keep billing me and sending me all different magazines every week.Desired Settlement: I would like this contract cancelled and all mailings and phone calls stopped, and the reduced
