Orange County Register Reviews (186)

Review: I am a pre-paid customer of OC Register for daily subscription, due until January 26, 2015. However, I haven't received newspaper from 10/4/2014. I contacted OC Register same day to report non-delivery. I was told that the paper will be delivered next day including missed paper for the previous day.

The paper was not delivered as promised. I tried to contact the paper through phone multiple times, however unable to reach a customer support person directly. I contacted through the on-line form to report non-delivery. I received the acknowledgement of complaint received, but to this date no paper was received.Desired Settlement: Receive news paper according to contract and credit for non-delivered days.

Response:

Saturday October 4, 2014, the Register transitioned to a new independent carrier force to deliver the newspaper. While most delivery routes were not impacted, several of you had problems.

Review: The Orange County Register has not been delivering newspapers to my address for the last 2 days. This also happened a couple of months ago. I have not been able to interact with them by telephone, computer live chat, or email.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive all my newspapers in a timely manner. My 7-day subscription has been paid 6 months in advance, ending in March of 2015. I would also appreciate to be contacted by them when I am leaving email messages, since they do not answer their phone, but only say "we're sorry for the long wait... please use our automated services"... Their automated phone service is not working properly and won't recognize my phone number when entered as prompted by the recording, hence the email and computer chat messages to them from me, which have not been answered either.

I would like to receive my newspapers!

Review: The Orange County Register is in breach of a stated or implied contract in that I have paid in-advance for home delivery of their product (newspaper) and the Orange County Register has failed for four days in-a-row to deliver said product and further failed to communicate with me in any way, form, or fashion regarding their failure.Desired Settlement: I want the Orange County Register to immediately refund subscription monies for the current and any and all future failures to deliver their product for the period of my current paid-in-full subscription.

Business

Response:

The business responded that "...[they] have corrected the issue." The issue has NOT been corrected; we have yet to receive delivery (that's the "issue"!) of the product.

Review: For the past 11 months I have been trying to get a refund for a subscription my father had with the Orange County Register. My father died unexpectedly on August 24, 2014 and on Monday August 25 I called the OC Register to cancel his subscription and requested a refund. I was told it would take 8-10 weeks and I should expect a refund of $39 and change. I called on October 14 spoke with a lady by the name of [redacted] in billing she said that I could expect a check by November 4th. I called again on November 20, spoke to Tricia in billing, she said she would look into the manner and call me back before COB, I never received a call. I e-mailed the OC Register on November 25, 2014 received a response for [redacted] in Customer Relations. [redacted] and I corresponded regularly until March 2015 when she no longer answered my e-mail. I do have all my e-mails that [redacted] and I exchanged which I will supply if needed.

The loss of my father is/was painful enough without having to deal with this issue.Desired Settlement: To receive the refund that is due to my father's estate.

Review: Our newspaper is frequently delivered late or not at all. This problem has persisted for over 6 weeks. Attempts to contact the Orange County Register have gone unanswered. They continue to bill out account for newspapers that are not delivered or delivered late according to the advertised delivery deal line.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund to my account for the past 6 weeks of subscription service. I would like all future deliveries to be made on time (by 5:45am on weekdays and by 7:00am on weekends)

Review: I cancelled my paper delivery on 5/11/15 because of missing deliveries or my paper was strewn across my driveway. I had paid for my subscription thru August 2015. I am still waiting for a refund and have contacted OC Register many times to no avail.Desired Settlement: I want an immediate refund of all money owed to me.

Business

Review: The paper has not been delivered for nearly three weeks ~ then delivered ~ then NOT delivered ~ then delivered twice in one day ~ then delivered. I have called a minimum of 15 times a day for days in a row ~ I want to cancel subscription. I have fed the PROPER AUTOMATIC CANCELLATION buttons to no avail ~ I have emailed to no avail ~ I have asked for (and assured of) return calls, to no avail. I am DONE.!Desired Settlement: C A N C E L my subscription!!!

Review: Have not received newspaper delivery last four days in a row and early this month a delivery was missed as well as received wrong local city paper insert. Have called numerous times, e-mailed, and filled out their online form. Situation has not been rectified. Have spoken to my neighbors and they also have not been receiving their paper. If you look online on Facebook and Yelp you will see this is a situation going on throughout Orange County. This situation is absolutely unacceptable.Desired Settlement: At the minimum, I expect to be credited for missed delivery. I also expect to be receiving my paper everyday. I am paying for a subscription which is supposed to be delivered daily and I expect to receive that delivery. There is no excuse for not delivering.

Review: I have billing and delivery issues that the Customer Service department has handled poorly. First, I did not receive a paper for about one month starting mid-October due to switching carriers since the OC Register did not pay the LA times for delivering the paper. I was told that I would receive a one month credit on my account, which I never did. I then I renewed for 6 months and received a bill last week stating that they raised their rates and will only deliver for 3 months for the amount that I paid plus $9.95. I called and was told that they changed the rates after my bill was sent out. I cancelled my subscription.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive the papers that I have paid for. One month for the delivery issue and 3 months of what I have already paid for (four months total).

Review: Sometime prior to November 19, 2014, I received an uninvited telephone solicitation at my residence from a mature female who surprisingly knew my name then commenced a verbal pitch for a discounted subscription to the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. I politely declined her offer, going so far as to explain that I had even terminated my LA TIMES subscription due to time-consuming priorities which had drastically reduced that availability. Inasmuch as she spoke perfect English and appeared sufficiently educated to comprehend our exchange, I was shocked then outraged at the FRAUDULENT ploys and business practices of what I now perceive to be a BOILER ROOM telemarketing outfit to EXTORT payments from seniors such as me, and other unsuspecting victims. Not only did I NOT consent nor DESIRE to use this entitys services, but AT NO TIME have I ever ACCEPTED or RECEIVED any of its publicationsof NO USE to me because I live in LOS ANGELES COUNTY! On December 4th and 5th, after holding on my cellular phone for MORE THAN 15 to seven minutes, respectively, to an UNMANNED and UNANSWERED toll free phone number, I disgustedly handwrote and mailed back a RETURN TO SENDER response across the FIRST envelope containing a DUE UPON RECEIPT bill for $24.14, explaining that GROSS ERROR. I received no response whatsoever!YESTERDAY (12/23/14), I received a SECOND similar demand statement for payment for alleged delivery services 11/19/14 - 01/14/15. This is a WASTE of my precious time and energy, has been HARASSING, PROVOKING, and DISTURBING in these series of CONSUMER VIOLATIONS caused by the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTERs relentless and unlawfully orchestrated attempts to EXTORT monies from me. This is my formal request that the Revdex.com (Orange County and Los Angeles County) either vigorously investigate and/or assist in the eradication of this illicit business operation which is engaging in criminal violations of Californias state and county laws by its unfair and intentionally deceitful business and alleged DEBT COLLECTION practicesall of which are adverse to public policy and consumer rights. Particularly, this applies to individuals such as me who are embattled by challenges and afflictions of age, infirmities, low-income, harassments, coercions, threats, and even time and energy, all relatable disadvantages, among others still unknown or to be experienced. Personally, I have far greater things to do in the last years of my life than be engaged in such UNJUSTIFIABLE and UNCONSCIONABLE willful ACTS OF GREEDa blight on our society and detraction from our humanity.Desired Settlement: This aggrieved Complainant would like the Revdex.com to: (i) Actively LOCATE and CONTACT this entity; (ii) Enforce CONSUMER LAWS for ORANGE COUNTY REGISTERs unwarranted DECEITFUL and UNWANTED business practices inflicted upon me; and (iii) Provide or refer resources for legal remedies due to such continued RELENTLESS acts of MALICIOUS HARASSMENT, and DEBT COLLECTOR coercive tactics with WILLFUL DISREGARD of CALIFORNIA PUBLIC POLICY and my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS to reject that entitys fraudulent attempts to wrongfully EXTORT an allegedly PAST DUE bill, and solicit an option $2.00 SCHOOL DONATION!

Response:

In review of the subscription file, our records show that a delivery service was started on 11/19/2014 at the address listed in the complaint .We will take the appropriate counseling/training steps with the sales agent responsible the solicitation call and subsequent delivery service. Based on the information provided in the complaint it is our judgment the delivery service was not authorized by the customer and the balance owed on the account is not valid. A credit adjustment was made to zero out the balance owed on the account.

Review: This company has failed to: deliver it newspapers for a few months now. Numerous attempts to contact them have failed because of their lack of response. I subscribed for a year and had about 60% of my annual subscription left when the lack of service and delivery started. I requested my monies back, requested delivery service (as they promised to do) under the subscription agreement, and have attempted to contact this company numerous times by email and phone but to no avail. No one responds to the email; and the waits for "Customer Service" are terribly long and un-supportive, as they do not respond. Moreover, I had a also requested a copy of my account statement, and they never provided that either.Desired Settlement: Requesting a cash refund. No checks....as their business condition is dubious at this time.

We have made several attempts to contact the subscriber to confirm that we have corrected the delivery issue. We will follow-up with the customer to verify delivery and escalate this matter until it is completely resolved. A credit has been processed for all of the missed delivery days.

Review: I have written five emails trying to reinstate my delivery of my newspaper, which I have paid for the next year. They have not delivered my newspaper for over five weeks. I have only received auto generated emails and no phone calls. I have requested every time that they either email me or call me and I have provided both my email and phone number. They have failed to either refund my funds or deliver the newspaper. They have not provided a time frame in which the newspaper delivery. They have told me that the newspaper would be available at two locations in Fullerton. I went to both of these locations but the newspaper.Desired Settlement: I would like two things for me to remain a customer. First I want my newspaper to be delivered. I also believe that I should receive the paper for free for an additional year, since I have wasted my time and fuel to try to get a newspaper, which was not available.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The OC Register has not left any messages on my message machine at home. My phone collects phone numbers for missed calls and none of the missed calls have been from the OC Register. The OC Register has sent zero emails to try and contact me. Therefore, I believe that the OC Register has acted in additional bad faith by lying that they have attempted to contact me. Thus, they have not tried to resolve this issue and have not started delivering the newspaper.

Review: The OC Register has deducted money from my bank account for daily delivery of their paper. Today is 10/7 and I have not received a paper since 10/3. When I call their place of business, there is an automated message that states I should bear with them during their delivery company transition. However, I do not believe I should have to wait 4 days for papers I have already paid for. They recommend emailing them (which I've done) and going online to their website, signing in and listing my paper as not delivered (which I have done for 4 days straight). I cannot get a live person over the phone and no not know where to go from here. My Mother-In-Law is yet to receive her paper since Friday. A friend in a neighboring city didn't receive Saturday's paper and has now received one every day since Sunday, however she only subscribes once a week (Sunday).Desired Settlement: A letter, a phone call, a credit to my account....

Review: The Orange County Register failed to deliver my Sunday Paper for over 2 months. I cancelled the subscription on 10/23/14 and was promised a refund for 93.40 and have yet to receive my refund.

I have made multiple calls and have never been called back.

I have been waiting for my refund for almost 4 months.

Why can't they just credit my credit card???Desired Settlement: I want my refund today.

please credit my card.

Business

Response:

We called the customer and informed him that he needs to contact his credit card company; as we released the funds on 10/24/2015. We will follow-up with the customer to verify receipt of the refund and escalate this matter until it is completely resolved.

Review: I have tried multiple different ways to cancel my subscription since October 5, 2014 without success. I finally got a live person via telephone today (she was in Colorado) who indicated there was no record of cancellation. I have notified Customer Service via email, the option in "live chat" and still have had no success. The customer service rep indicated she couldn't cancel the subscription and would have to transfer me to a different person to cancel; she also took my number as numerous people had complained about getting disconnected. I submitted two additional requests today via "live chat" since no one was available within the allotted time as well as email.Desired Settlement: Cancellation of newspaper effective September 28th, the last paper received before request.

Business

Response:

We apologize for any inconvenience we may have cause with the missed delivery days. As requested your subscription is scheduled to be cancelled effective 10/19/2014. A refund has been processed with a credit for all of the missed delivery days.
