Pennsylvania Gas & Electric Reviews (219)

Review: Pennsylvania Gas & Electric promises that their service will give you cheaper competetive rates then my current provider. My provider at the time was strictly [redacted]. Since I have been with PAG & E my rates have ranged any where from about $.07-.289. My latest bill total was almost $700. This is for one residential home with 2 adults currently living at this location. I called with my meter reading because I thought this bill must be incorrect. Only to find that the estimated bill was actually under estimated and my actual bill should have been just shy of $800. With this past month being bitter cold I find it robbery to jack the rate to 28.9¢ per kWh. When I contacted the company they offered a reimbursement check of $321. I find this to be a nice offer rather then offering nothing. The problem I still see is that my actual bill with the check is still $570. Since I have been with this company that claims to save me money I have actually lost a lot of money. I have spoke with many people about this issue and none of them have ever heard of a rate going as high as $.289. I feel this company blindly leads the customer to believe switching to them will save them money and it does not by far. It kills me to think that many others who can't afford these outrageous bills are feeling the same hard financial hit that I have. If I would have stuck with my original provider I would have saved approximately 75% on my electric bill over all. I was never once informed during my provider switch that these rates could vary so much. My phone conversation with the person who sold me on switching never once shared with me that their rate would only be lower the my original provider for 2 lousy months. This company was very disappointing and I would hate to see anyone else get scammed the way I did. Thank you for your time!Desired Settlement: This company should be watched carefully so that they don't scam more innocent people.

Response:

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (“PAG&E”) contacted **. [redacted] on March 3, 2014, concerning the rates associated with **. [redacted]’s electric account. During our conversation with **. [redacted], PAG&E discussed the following findings and facts with **. [redacted].

Review: I signed up with Pennsylvania Gas and Electric as my electricity generator and transmitter at a rate less than [redacted]. My rate has been progressively increased in the past two months, last month at a 12 cent/kWh rate and now with a 30 cent/kWh rate. [redacted]'s current rate is 8.75 cents/kWh so this is clearly not even close to being competitive. I was promised that I would save money when I signed up for this plan. Although I do have a variable rate, I do not feel this degree of variation to be acceptable. When you call, you cannot talk with a live person but are forced to enter your phone number for someone to supposedly call you back, but no one calls back.Desired Settlement: I would like my current bill adjusted to a reasonable rate for the last two months, near what I signed up for, and I want my account with them immediately closed and would like to return to [redacted].

Pennsylvania Gas and Electric (“PAG&E”) is in receipt of **. [redacted]’s complaint received on February 4, 2014, regarding the alleged sales calls **. Upon receipt of this complaint, we have confirmed that PAG&E added telephone number ###-###-#### to our internal “Do Not Call” list to ensure that **. [redacted] does not receive future sales calls from PAG&E.

Review: This company uses variable rates for their electricity. My last bill my rate spiked to 23.68 cents per KWH. Every other company is at a comparable rate of 6-8 cents per KWH. This company claims that it is due to recent snow storms. I dont live in [redacted] or [redacted], why am I paying for their storms? The company discounted my rate to 15.4 cents per KWH which is still unsatisfactory considering the comparible rates. Which I still have to pay the entire bill before they will send me a $133.00 refund check. This company is spiking prices to get people who aren't watching their bills to pay a non comparible rate to compensate their local outages.Desired Settlement: I'm already set to receive $133.00 refund check. I would like an additional refund check of $120.00 which lowers my rate to the comparible 8.0 cents per KWH.

Review: Company has raised rates from $0.1346 to $0.2936 in one month. Causing my electric bill to go from 132.36 to 502.68 without any prior notice. I have called countless times and receive no return calls.Desired Settlement: I am unable to pay this bill. I have recently switched my electric provider. Review: This company allowed my son, whose name is not on my electric bill account, to change companies over the phone by midleading him. Then they raised their rates from $.074 per killowatt hour in Oct. 2013 to $.2796 for my current bill. My electric bills have ranged from $100 + per month to $500+ per month (I have electric heat) but my current bill is $1486! I have tried contacting the company but never am able to speak with a human.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the difference between what PA Gas and Electric is charging me and what my bill would have been if they had not switched me from ** and * based on a phone conversation with my son. ** and *'s current rate is $.087 per killowatt hour.

Review: I had a Fellow call me up about 4 months ago. He said he could save me money on my electric bill. He said it was going to be 10% cheaper. For the last 4 months my bill has been every high. When I looked at my bill I saw they were charging me over $0.19 per KWH when [redacted] was only charging me $0.07. They lied to me on the phone. Never sent me Paper work. Review: I switched to Pennsylvania gas and electric. You can check there prices on the pep website everyday. they told me they keep there prices competitive. This month my bill went up to 25 cents a kilowatt. which is 3 times more then the average. Review: I have had A geothermal heat system for 21 years and the highest bill has never exceeded $278.00. We raised 3 kids and are now empty nesters. The last 4 bills from my power company are as follows:10/13 $131.2411/13 $174.6012/13 $277.031/14 $469.322/14 $846.73 kwh $0.3241 vs $0.0871 for 2/13That is nearly 4 times higher then the previous year. How high can they go and get away with it?We have the heat closed in all but one bed room. I am at a loss for words as I look at my bill. Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (“PAG&E”) contacted **. [redacted] on March 4, 2014, regarding the complaint **. [redacted] filed concerning the rates and alleged billing discrepancies associated with his electric account. During our conversation with **. [redacted], we discussed the below facts and findings regarding the concerns outlined in his complaint.

Review: I switched my electric generation supplier from [redacted] to PAG&E for the purpose as expressed by PAG&E in this quote,"We are committed to helping you lower your total energy costs." My energy costs have, instead, far exceeded anything I could have possibly imagined. Their generation charges started at $0.0740 a kWh which is a reasonable price. The following month it rose to $0.0969 a kWh which was still yet acceptable. However, the following month it rose to $0.1353 a kWh pushing my bill to a very high level. I called PAG&E to express my displeasure and to tell them I would be seeking a different generation supplier. They did not return my call. And then today I received the worst of it all. $0.3022 a kWh!!! My bill went from $168.45 at the beginning to $871.62!!!!!!!!!! For one month. This company has violated my trust, my dignity, and my bank account. How am I ever to pay a outrageous sum like that!?Desired Settlement: I am willing to pay a $0.1000 a kWh on my last bill and on any subsequent bills until the new generation supplier starts to provide me electricity.

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (“PAG&E”) contacted [redacted]. [redacted] on February 28, 2014, concerning the rates associated with [redacted]. [redacted]’s electric account. During our conversation with [redacted]. [redacted], PAG&E discussed the following findings and facts with [redacted]. [redacted].

Review: After my electric bill came Friday it was 1,039.67 going up over $554. since my Dec bill. completely in shock being as I have geothermal heat the most economical. The company was called by my wife on Monday Feb 10 and she was told that they would take her name, number and call her back. They could not promise it would be that day. She told them that they would need to call after 4pm on Tuesday because she works as a teacher and would be unable to talk at work. Upon arriving home there was a message left by [redacted] saying that if we had any other questions or concerns to please notify them at the ###-###-#### number. This message was left at 7:30 am not the 4pm time given the day before. My wife proceeded to call the above number again at 3:55 pm and talked with a lady. She was very upset that they would have called so early and left a message that if we had questions to call. Of course we still do since we have yet to talk with anyone from customer service. The lady told her that she would have to take our name and number and have someone get back to us since customer service lines were not working, but when asked when that would be she said she was unsure if it would be that day. She said then why did they give that # to call. My wife said they were to call after 4 and it is just now 4. She was still unsure if they would be calling. When asked how late they were in the lady said she thought 6-7. The employee doesn't know? My wife expressed her concern of the bills increase and being unable to talk with anyone and our paperwork says their hours are 8-5:30. No call on Tuesday no call back on Wednesday, so I called again on Thursday and the lady in which I spoke with said that she would have to take name and number and that there was no previous record of the calls my wife made earlier in the week. She also said she would write on the message to expediate which means we would get a call back in 3-5 days vs. 5-7. Why the long wait? Why rates change and customers not notified?Desired Settlement: It would be great to get a call from customer service since they have not called us back. Any kind of refund would help? Why are we paying higher rates if they didn't buy enough energy? That's not our fault! How are they committed to lowering our energy costs when they have raised it so much? They claim they are highly competitive electric supply company but guess what you get screwed and no one talks to you from customer service. You don't treat customers like this!

Review: Pennsylvania Gas & Electric more than doubled the cost per kwh on our monthly electric bill. In Jan the kwh rate was 0.1385 kwh(Dec 12-Jan 10) in Feb the rate was 0.2789 kwh (Jan 11-Feb 10). I telephoned on Feb 18 and got the recording that due to heavy call volume I could either remain on the line (est 44 min) or leave a call back number and my call would be returned in the order received.

To date, have not received a call back regarding this billing.Desired Settlement: I would like to have my kwh cost reduced and be allowed to transfer providers sooner than the 30-60 days normally takes

Response:

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (“PAG&E”) contacted [redacted]. [redacted] on March 3, 2014, concerning the rates associated with [redacted]. [redacted]’s electric account. During our conversation with [redacted]. [redacted], PAG&E discussed the following findings and facts with [redacted]. [redacted].

PAG&E conducted research of its records and determined that [redacted]. [redacted] began receiving service from PAG&E on July 12, 2013. [redacted]. [redacted] enrolled her electric account into our variable rate program, which is a rate that fluctuates monthly and is not guaranteed to be lower than the utility, contrary to [redacted]. [redacted]’s assertion that PAG&E rates “would never rise above” her utility’s rates. Additionally, a welcome package was mailed to [redacted]. [redacted] on June 5, 2013, which summarized the variable rate program into which [redacted]. [redacted] enrolled, along with our terms and conditions.

Upon receipt of [redacted]. [redacted]’s complaint on February 19, 2014, PAG&E conducted an account analysis of [redacted]. [redacted]’s electric account and, as a good-will gesture, PAG&E will send [redacted]. [redacted] a rebate for a portion of her supply charge for her February 2014 invoice. [redacted]. [redacted] stated that she was satisfied with this resolution and thanked us for our call.

With regards to [redacted]. [redacted]’s statement that PAG&E’s rates “more than doubled”, please be advised that the price that we pay for energy, as a supplier, to service our customers, has increased over the last several months and as stated in our terms and conditions, which was mailed to [redacted]. [redacted], pricing for this variable rate plan for her electric account is as follows: “each month your rate will reflect your cost of electricity, including energy, other wholesale market services, the associated transmission and distribution charges and other market-related factors for your utilities transmission zone within the PJM ISO; plus all applicable taxes, fees, charges, costs, expenses and margins.”

PAG&E regrets any inconvenience that [redacted]. [redacted] may have experienced with our company. PAG&E prides itself on our sales and customer service teams and the ongoing training that we provide. We will continue to monitor our sales and customer service teams to maintain the quality of our sales and customer service calls.

PAG&E has upheld its contractual obligations, confirms that we are in full compliance with Pennsylvania rules and regulations, and considers this matter closed.

I am rejecting this response because: In their response PaGE stated, "[redacted]. [redacted]’s assertion that PAG&E rates “would never rise above” her utility’s rates."

Review: I have been with this company for about 2 years. The monthly charges has been about $500.00. I received my latest bill and it was $1,425.14. We received NO PREVIOUS COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMPANY THAT OUR BILL WOULD BE GOING UP THAT HIGH. I immediately called the company (Monday Feb 10). I got their answering service to leave a message and they would return my message. I have received NO call back from them I have left several messages - no call back from them. I called the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to file a complaint against them. I was told that I could not file a complaint against them because this company is NOT a fixed rate company - they are a variable rate company, which she explained that they could charge whatever they wanted to charge. I Immediately called PPL and the person I spoke to said that they had just had a meeting and were informed that this was NOT correct - I could file a complaint against this company. A supervisor would call me back from PPL and discuss how I could do this. I am still waiting for a call back from the supervisor. I called PPL again today and they said it would take up to 3 days to hear from them. On Monday I changed my carrier form Pennsylvania Gas & Electric to [redacted]. In the mean time I am still paying an EXORBANT AMOUNT for my electric bill. I called both PPL and [redacted] to try to get my service provider changed ASAP. I was told that there was no way I could be switched to a new provider until the next billing cycle. Since PPL reads my meter electronically, and according to them it is monitored daily, I wanted to get onto to [redacted] ASAP. They told me this was not possible.Desired Settlement: What I want as a solution:

I want to get switched from Pennsylvania Gas & Electric to [redacted] IMMEDIATELY

I want my bill for this month to reflect the normal charges of approximately $500.00 NOT the $1,425.14 they are charging me.

I want to file a complaint against Pennsylvania Gas & Electric

Then we get these huge bills that we can not afford to pay. They told us they were investigating the situation but we have not heard back from them. They told us we were being recorded and my wife told them they should check the earlier recording of what agreed on. They also put us in a variable rate which is something my wife and I would never have agreed to we never used a variable rate in our life and never will.Desired Settlement: Adjust all of the bills to what we would have paid when we were with [redacted].

Review: For the month of February PAG&E (Pennsylvania Gas & Electric), is charging me $1,226.69 at rate of $0.3253 for 3392kWh. Both me, [redacted] and my wife, [redacted] have spoke to them to reduce this bill because they promise to my wife that their rates will always be lower than PPL Electric, but they have not help us. We have call them twice first on February 13, 2013 and today, February 19th, my wife call again because they were suppose to have called us 3 days from the 13th and, today they promise again to call and let us know what will they do and we need to pay this bill soon.Desired Settlement: They can adjust this bill with a lower rate of at least $0.1098 per kWh.

February 19, 2014, regarding the complaint **. [redacted] filed concerning the rates

associated with his electric account. Below are the facts and findings

regarding **. [redacted]’ complaint.

Review: The electric service was sold to us as a much better rate than the current provider [redacted]. For the first month it was. I asked specifically if the rates could go up and was assured it would remain competitive with [redacted], which is the main provider. The next few months the rate went slightly higher, then this month the rate tripled. The normal rate is around 8 cents per kilowatt hour, and in the last month ours is 29 cents a kilowatt hour. The company won't return our calls, and we don't know what to do...Desired Settlement: For the company to charge us a competitive rate like what we were sold. Also we want to cancel the service.

Response:

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (“PAG&E”) contacted **. [redacted] on February 19, 2014, concerning the rates associated with **. [redacted]’s electric account. During our conversation with **. [redacted], PAG&E discussed the following findings and facts with **. [redacted].

Review: Electricity variable rate billing from this company is unethical. Variable rate billing appears to allow them to charge whatever they wish and explain it as "the market rate". Last months high bill caused me to research the market, I found that I was being charged $0.1422 per kwh when [redacted] was charging $0.08754. I contacted Pennsylvania Gas & Electric and cancelled my service (the rate had been steadily increasing to this point). I received my last bill from them yesterday and was shocked to see the rate at $0.3322 (over double last months rate and nearly four times the [redacted] rate $0.08754). I contacted them and they eventually agreed to send me a rebate check for $346, which may sound reasonable but that still leaves the rate at $0.2101 compared to last months. It would appear that they have a strategy to appease disgruntled customers by offering a rebate to cover their back, but the rebate is a smoke screen to the fallback extortionate rate. I feel that the massive increase was possibly because I decided to cancel, but in researching the company I found a news article with a similar story from a customer in CT. They are apparently headquartered in Florida and use local state names for their entities. Please see likns -

[redacted]Desired Settlement: A fair bill amount for .14 (last months) or less.

Thanks

When I call the company's number a woman will answer eventually, but then says she has to transfer me to customer service. I am then put on hold for over an hour with no response. Review: We signed up with this company ~dec of 2012. The welcome letter stated : "thank you for enrolling in our highly competitive electricity supply program. We are committed to helping you lower your total energy costs". This is a bunch of baloney!!!! [redacted] estimated our bills Jan/Feb/March.... I had never seen such high bills... We do not heat with electric, we have actually lowered our consumption by replacing bulbs with LEDS etc....so, I really expected a refund when they actually read the meter... Not so.

Called [redacted] and here is some info they shared... Yes, we are consuming less , but pag&e has been charging out the roof !

In dec 2013 [redacted] was charging 7.8cents/ kwat

Pag&e 9cents

In January 2014 [redacted] was charging 7.17cents. Pag&e 12 cents.

In February [redacted] was charging 7.17 cents. pag&e 22cents!!!

In march, [redacted] was charging 7.31 cents and pag&e 17 cents!

Surely you get the picture... This is fraud.

Please let me know how to proceed getting money back to dealing with this company. The public utility commission is overwhelmed with complaints along with the attorney generals office.

Thanks!Desired Settlement: That they match [redacted] rates at least for dec-April of this year and possibly 2013 once I get those fugures.
