Pennsylvania Gas & Electric Reviews (219)

Review: I have been charged over triple the normal amount for electric service. my bill for February was $937.00 for one month. they charged me .23 cents per kilo watt hour. This is outrageous. I plan to sue them for false advertisement and gouging. I will not do business with this Company ever again.Desired Settlement: I want my rate reduced for all months billed by this company to be what [redacted] charges for electric per kilowatt hour. and refunded that amount on my [redacted] bill which is now over $2600.

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric

(“PAG&E”) is in receipt of [redacted]’s complaint dated

February 27, 2014, regarding the rates associated with his electric account.

Review: On or around December 15th I noticed my electric rate had been increased to $.10/kwh. At that time I called PAG&E to switch my providing electric back to [redacted], I was on hold for about 20 minutes and the recording encouraged me to leave my number, that I would not lose my place in the que, and someone would return my call, because I was on hold for so long, and no one was answering, I decided to leave my number. I did not receive a return call and attempted to call the next day with the same results. I then called [redacted] and was encouraged to cancel through PAG&E as there may be a termination fee. I then forgot about the issue until I received my bill in January. I was then increased to $.12/kwh. Again I went through the same process, but I repeatedly called PAG&E for 3 days. My calls went unanswered and my calls are never returned. I have called and left my number, no less than 6-8 times. After much discussion with [redacted], they switched me back to being my provider, but it wouldn't happen until after the February 19th reading of my meter. I filed a complaint with the PUC and it is under investigation. I have since received my newest statement and PAG&E has increased my rate to $.30/kwh. I will gladly pay PAG&E the rate of $.10/kwh from December 15th until the date they last provide me with services. When you are provided a service by a company you expect phone calls and communication with that company to be accessible. After leaving my number 6-8 times and the recording assuring me that they would call me back, and no one has ever called, I feel like the situation is Fraud. I attempted on several occasions to cancel my services with them and they would not answer my calls or even return them. Had PAG&E answered my calls or returned my calls I would have been able to cancel my services back in December as was my intention.Desired Settlement: I would like PAG&E to reissue bills to me, charging me for all my kilowatts used from December 15, 2013 to the last date of service at $.10/kwh per hour.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND WE WILL BE CONTACTING [redacted] TV, PA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION, PA ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE AND PA OFFICE OF CONSUMER ADVOCATES.Desired Settlement: CORRECT THE BILL TO THE JANUARY RATE AND RE-BILL. Review: Bait and switch! PA Gas & Electric's introductory rate of .079 and their promise of competitive rates trick customers to sign up. Last month my rate jumped to .1420, and my bill was higher than it has ever been in the 20 years we've lived in this home. When I called to complain they promised to send a $200. refund check (never received it) and lower my rate. Instead, this month's bill was calculated at .3060/kwh (more than double the previous month's rate) for a whopping $1498.82 even though we consumed less electricity than the same time last year! Again I called to complain, and they promised to send me an $800. refund check and lower my rate. (How many times can they say that line with a straight face?) This lie just keeps people trapped in their high rates for yet another month. This practice is unethical if not criminal! If this company would publish their actual monthly rates (and this should be standard practice and the law) NO ONE would sign up with them. During the coldest months of the year people are going without food and heat to pay these outrageous electric bills which ARE NOT COMPETITIVE AS PROMISED. Shameful! I don't know how Pennsylvania Gas & Electric owners can sleep at night -- I know their customers can't!Desired Settlement: In would like the promised refund checks ($200. and $800.) to be mailed immediately. I am changing electric suppliers and would like that process to be expedited immediately -- not the usual two months it normally takes to change suppliers. I am not happy at all with Pennsylvania Gas & Electric.

Review: Months ago I switched my electric generation supplier after receiving a cold call about the savings they would provideThrough the winter months I had noticed an increase in my electric bill but nothing too concerning until I received my March billIn March I was charged $0.2879/kwh which was a 113% increase over what I had been charged in February which was $which was already a 19% price increase from January's rate of $I called Pennsylvania Gas & Electric in March & worked out an agreement for a refund which was still a high rate but almost 50% of my bill was refunded (plus I'd like to point out that my March bill was based on an estimate & not my actual usage – if they are going to vary the rate, the least they can do is actually get out to read my meter which is always accessable – even in the winter/snow) and I was promised that my April bill would be based on $0.08/$per kwhUpon receiving my April bill, my rate per kwh is still double what I had been quotedI called Pennsylvania Gas & Electric on April 10th and was advised I could get a credit of $which I rejected as per my calculations, at the $per kwh I had been quoted I should have been offered $(at $per kwh I should have been offered $223.55)April 10th I was provided with a case # & advised customer service/billing would call me backApril 18th I called for an update to find that my case wasn't considered high priority & could take longerThe customer service rep changed my status to high priority & now my wait to hear back starts over again & is supposed to be w/in 3-daysThis is unnacceptalbe to meIf I have a problem with my bill, I should be able to make a call & get it resolved without having to wait week for someone else to review and get back to me.Desired Settlement: I expect to receive a refund for at least $

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric ("PAG&E") contacted **[redacted] on April 28, 2014, regarding the complaint **[redacted] filed concerning the rates and alleged billing discrepancies with her electric accountDuring our conversation with **[redacted] we discussed the below facts and findings regarding the concerns outlined in her complaint

Review: I was called by a marketer from this company who told me that I would be saving money on my bill if I changed my electric provider and he convinced me to change electric providers. When I recieved my bills, they were almost double what they were from last year. I called a few times and left messges. No one returned my calls. I called the last time and spoke with a girl who tried to tell me that it has been very cold and that's why the bill is so high. I tried to explain to her that I do not have electric heat; I have gas heat and my electric bill should not have gone up. I would expect my gas bill to go up but not the electric bill. She said it was because of the "variable rate." I told her, "I would have NEVER signed up if I thought my bill would be this high. No one with any common sence would change electric carriers if they anticipated their bill to be double."Desired Settlement: I want to be refunded the overpayment that I have paid and want my bill adjusted. I also want to discontinue services with Pennsylvania Gas and Electric and NOT be charged and cancellation fee of any type, nor do I want to see ANY secret charges or fees of any type on my bill nor any charges to have my bill reviewed nd adjusted. I want to go back to [redacted] being my provider and I don't want any hassle about it. And if there is any type of fee from [redacted] to change back to them for being my provider, I want Pennsylvania Gas and Electric to cover it and any fees associated with changing providers.

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (“PAG&E”) contacted [redacted]. [redacted] on April 11, 2014, concerning the rates associated with [redacted]. [redacted]’s electric account. During our conversation with [redacted]. [redacted], we discussed the below facts and findings regarding the concerns outlined in her complaint.

Review: I think the company is price gouging its customers because of the cold weather. My rate tripled from just a couple of months ago, and I've had this company as my supplier under Pennsylvania's electricity deregulation for almost one year. At the end of my one year contract they give back 12% of my highest bill as a perk, so I do not want to cancel. I think they deliberately keep their rate low by selling their service in the spring, so that many customers wind up with a high bill only near the end of their contract. Legally I think this is price gouging, but I also think this is a bait & switch issue, which is why I selected that choice as the "primary nature of my complaint."Desired Settlement: I would like the rate of my electric bill to be adjusted to a reasonable amount, such as the default providers rate, as given by PP&L as the "rate to compare." As a consumer I would never pick a rate that was higher, and I feel PA G&E is taking advantage of the mathematics that allows them to raise rates this way, to the detriment of the consumer.

Review: Over the past three months Pennsylvania Gas and Electric has continued to raise the price per kWh. It went from 8 cents to 14 cents to 31 cents with absolutely no warning. I do not have electric heat, I have a gas furnace, hot water heater and stove and my electric bill was over $650 this past month.Desired Settlement: I feel that my bill needs to be adjusted to a more comparable rate.

Review: they provided a 1233.00 bill for one month in a 2 bedroom apt. they are charging 3 times as much as ppl.Desired Settlement: They need to at least charge the price ppl is charging they promised a cheaper rate than ppl. I cant pay 1800.00 for electric. The next bill for 2 weeks of heating is 400.00 this is highway robbery

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (“PAG&E”) contacted [redacted] on April 7, 2014, regarding the complaint [redacted] filed concerning the rates associated with her electric account. During our conversation with [redacted], PAG&E discussed the following findings and facts with [redacted].

Review: Pennsylvania Gas & Electric called me and stated that I could save money on my electrical usage by switching from [redacted] to their variable rate program. My electric bill went from $238.30 for Jan, 2014 to an outrageous amount of $655.32 for Feb, 2014. I was told that it was because the price of energy had gone up. This company told me this product would save me money. I am retired, living on Social Security, and can in no way pay this unexpected increase. I feel that PG&E is running a deceptive scheme (racket). They are selling this plan who may be retired and just trying to save a little money.. I was offered a small rebate ($183.00 if I didn't cancel or around $130.00 if I cancelled) I decided to cancel anyway because it takes a month to cancel and I did not want another $600.00 or more charge for March. People should be protected from this kind of deceptive marketing.Desired Settlement: I would like a $400,00 rebate for the month of Feb. 2014 and the same for march 2014. This reflects the a little less than the difference in my billing amount for Jan. 2014.

Review: We were contacted by Pennsylvania Gas and Electric in regards to lowering our electric bill. We were given a competitive rate and no contract. After a few months our rate more than tripled. We called to ask about the change assuming it was an error only to be told that the rate we were quoted was just a new Customer promotion and that no error had been made. This was not disclosed at the time of sale. We asked to speak to someone about the change and were told someone would call us back in 5-7 days.Desired Settlement: We would like a refund of the difference between the rates we were promised and the new much higher rate.

Review: this company has misrepresented how they bill and adjust prices for their electricity. Their rates are suppose to be variable, but they are not suppose to steal from the american people. I have been with Pennsylvania gas and electric for over three years now. besides their introductory rates, their so called variable rates are always higher then the most or all of the rates in Pennsylvania. if met'ed is .07 per kwh Pennsylvania gas and electric is .11 and up to .30 cents per kwh. Their variable rates are only variable to how much they are grossly over charging their customers. So much so that they are in several law suits. They grossly misrepresented how they do business and how much they charge for their electricity. And I have tried to be a loyal customer and have paid all my bills to learn that I am just a pawn for greedy businessman taking advantage of good americans. And I want to be reimbursed all the money that I was grossly overcharged at for so long.

Review: I feel as if this company was very misleading! They led me to believe that I would be saving money on my electric bill but just the opposite happened. Within three months time, they nearly quadrupled my price per Kilowatt hour which cause my electric bill to skyrocket!Desired Settlement: I would like a credit to my account for the over charges.

Review: I was told by [redacted] to contact Pa Gas & Electric because the rate changed from .07774 in July to .2857 for the January billing cycle. When I called PG&E I spoke with someone who agreed to transfer my call. I was put on hold and the message said to either continue to hold or enter my phone number and they would call me back. When I entered the number it was scrambled when the recording repeated the phone number. I reentered the number several times and each time it was again scrambled. I hung up and redialed several times. Each time I was disconnected within seconds. The call was not completed. I am complaining about the service I received and having the rate increased so dramatically without notification. I will be switching back to [redacted] but wanted to file this complaint because of the way I was treated.Desired Settlement: I would like to be released to use [redacted] as my provider and wish to terminate doing business with PG&E.

During our conversation with **. [redacted], we discussed the below facts and findings regarding the concerns outlined in his complaint.

Review: In July, I was solicited, on the telephone, to purchase electric supplier services through PA Gas & Electric. I was never told that the rate would be variable. I never have, and never would, purchase anything with a variable rate. When we received our January 2014 bill, we noticed the rate went from 9 cents in December to 27 cents in January. This raised my bill $657 dollars from December to January (tripled my bill). I called PA Gas & Electric and they stated that they are a variable rate company and the rate varies with the demand of supply for electric. I informed them that I was not informed that I was agreeing to a variable rate and they stated those are the only rates they have. I requested to hear from a supervisor and was told I would received a return phone call, but never did. I cancelled my service with PA Gas & Electric, but was informed that the change in service will not be made until the next billing cycle, so I will most like have another "ridiculous" electric bill for February.Desired Settlement: I would like my bill to be rewritten with a more feesible rate. It makes no sense that I have to pay 300% more than last month.

Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (“PAG&E”) contacted **. [redacted] on March 13, 2014, regarding the complaint **. [redacted] filed concerning the rates and alleged billing discrepancies associated with her electric account. During our conversation with **. [redacted], we discussed the below facts and findings regarding the concerns outlined in her complaint.

Review: My electric bill was $1,200.24 for the last 30 days. It doubled from January which was then was highest bill we ever had at this residence. As a retired couple, living on a fixed income this is an outrageous increase. Four calls to the company have not been answered or returned. I was aware that there was a fixed rate but tripling or quadrupling the bill is deceptive and fraudulent. The Power Switch Website from the PA PUC mentions that choosing carefully could save you $100 / YEAR or more. When the companies recruit you, they never warn that bill could go up $800 in MONTH. This is the same as a hardware store charging 4x the rate for plywood just before a hurricane or gasoline sales going to $12.00 / gallon because of an oil spill. There is also a list of consumer rights listed. The one below is copied from the website.

The right to be protected from unfair, deceptive, fraudulent, and anti-competitive practices of suppliers of electricity.

I believe all 4 adjectives in the above right regarding their practices in supplying electricity are accurate in this matter. A $1200.24 electric bill is a form of robbery without a gun.Desired Settlement: I believe retired citizens need protection from these unethical practices. These companies are entitled to make a living but not a killing each month in terms of fair competitive practices.

Review: PAG&E contacted us in July 2013 implying that they were associated with [redacted] and that [redacted] had to charge us a higher price for electric because we hadn't chosen a supllier. The first two billing cycles were, in fact, lower. Now the rate has tripled, 3x what [redacted] would charge us if they were supplying our electric. No I get no call back or resolution to this issue, basically it's too bad. I find it very appalling that they can do business this way and I want them to explain to me why I have to continue service with a company that misrepresented the**elves? Thank you.
