Phoenix Car Rental Reviews (74)

Horrible experience overall! I recently rented a Ford Expedition from PHX RAC and I will never make that mistake again, hope they go out of business! While on the high way the passenger door flew open a few times! We had idsues closing the door we had to drive with cation and it still wouldn’t close right. When I brought this to their attention they became very defensive saying telling me that I was saying that they rented me a pice a st car those were his words! I have never dealt with such horrible customer service, Otts the person I spoke too wouldn’t even let me get a word in! The person who received the car was very rude as well as Mr. Otts they have horrible customer service skills! I will definitely spread the word about this company! If my passenger wouldn’t have been wearing a seatbelt they would have rolled out of the car and god knows what would have happened! And for this company not to take this serious saddens me. I was also told that the car has already been rented to another family I pray to god nothing bad happens to them in this car

Phoenix Car Rental on McDowell just west of 29th street...We just came back from Anaheim and I had reserved a van from these crooks, they quoted me 550 out the door so of course I took the deal and reserved, but I called again to confirm and this time the guys told me plus tax so asked what the tax rate was and he told me 20% so I did the math and asked once again is that it? No hidden fees? and he assured me that was it, but once I got there to pick up the van he told me I needed an extra 200 deposit. I told him I asked and he said nothing about a deposit to which he replied everybody requires a deposit, I reminded him that I asked him several times and he said no. He was very, very rude! So when we return the van oh let me back up a bit. Once we had the van and drove off the lot I found that the wheel had to much play in it so I called the place back and he told me to bring it back and they would check it out but that it was a large vehicle and "they all do that" Excuse me I'm a former bus, shuttle and van driver and I have never had a vehicle drive that way that didn't NEED to be fixed. But I stayed with the van dreading what else they might give me and we were down to the wire on our trip plans with no other options. So we took the van and discovered that not only was the alignment bad, but the speedometer didn't work past 30 mphs the linkage was loose on the transmission, the electronic locking mechanism didn't work, the interior was crap, the doors rattled and didn't close flush, the benches were all mismatched and dirty. I will never rent here again. Oh and when I gave a cash deposit in the beginning he told me that we would get this back when we brought the van back and in his words "I will hand that right back to you when you return the van" and I asked him in cash and he replied "yes!" That didn't happen, he now said it will go back on your card but I didn't pay the deposit with my card, I paid cash. Oh and did I mention this guy was a total A** Hole! The van also had 196,000+ miles on it. NEVER RENT FROM THIS PLACE! I have yet to receive my $200.00 deposit back, unfortunately from what I'm hearing I'm probably not going to get it back. If so I will file charges. How is this business allowed to continue to operate!?

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT GO NEAR THIS COMPANY. Complete scam! The quotes sound great, but once you go to the actually location you are greeted with rude, rushed, and sneaky customer service. Beforehand I asked for a copy of all the charges I would be given and the guy at the front desk hesitated, therefore making me hesitant about the company. I had given him a drivers license and debit card by then and demanded he give it back, he reassured me that nothing was chargedand I left their business in search of a legit car rental company. Alright, that was done, so a week later, a day after I arrived back home from vacation, what do I see?! $450.00 charged to my card from Phoenix car rental. No way! I immediately called them! They rudely told me that they had to review a video tape because if I decided to cancel there was a $80 charge to my card. EVEN WITH AN $80.00 charge, why would $450.00 be taken from the card. Anywho called them the next day, spoke to a man who claimed his name was OTIS G[redacted], he said that $370.00 was refunded to my card and the rest would be refunded after he reviewed the video (checked my card, NOTHING WAS REFUNDED!). By then I was mad! I wanted to fly back to Phoenix just to handle this case so I asked for an address so I could get a better understanding of the charges, that's when OTIS G[redacted] tries to persuade me that he was working from his headquarters in California but refused to give me an address and said I would need an appointment. Come on now! I don't know what kind of bogus scam company they are trying to run, but DO NOT GO NEAR THEM! I wish someone had warned me beforehand. I filed a claim, I will never deal with this business again!

We contacted Phoenix Car rental at 2934 E. McDowell Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85008
and spoke to a "Denis", who is extremely RUDE person, no professional skills or manners.
He was suppose to pick us from the airport to their office to sign the a week rental car. When we called him from the airport, he claimed that he was too busy and if we rent a cab and he will reimburse us . We rented an cab, and went to the rental office. We met "Denis", who decided to increase the quoted price by $50 for no reason, saying, " take it or leave it deal". When we questioned the raise in the quote, he claimed that our insurance, does not show the proper coverage. We called our insurance company, who confirmed that everything was proper and in place. By that time, we have heard from the creature "Denis" all the LOW language words in the English dictionary. The insurance company rep, asked if he can explain to rental car person, the insurance, but at this moment, we have already decided not to rent from that company or that rude creature.. We would NOT at all, recommend this company to anybody.

Dear Mr. [redacted],

I am sorry that you received inferior service when you returned your vehicle to our location. We hope you will accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience your party...

experienced when you came back. We know the incident must have been very unpleasant for you. The representative in question will receive special training during the next week so he will be better prepared to serve every customer with the utmost in customer satisfaction. Below is a break-down of your charges for your convenience.

You rented an Impala on January 29"' at 10:48pm for a week. Our normal business hours are between Sam and 6pm. Our normal after-hours rentals occur between 6pm and 10pm. We were technically closed when you landed;however, the manager made a special courtesy In your case In order to get you served that  night. As a result of being served outside the normal business hours, a $40 after-hours service fee was charged and was clear on the face of your rental agreement you signed at the beginning of the rentaI.

In regards to the condition of the vehicle, you signed a yellow "Used Car Rental" agreement at the beginning of the rental as well disclaiming that you are renting ona of our cheapest vehicles and that the vehicle might have minor defects and that you can rent a better quality vehicle at a higher price. You
chose to remain In our cheapest vehicle and drove it over 400 miles during the week constituting good use of the rental. You also kept the vehicle the entire 7 day period. If you would have experienced any safety issues with the vehicle, you could have called our establishment and we would have been more than happy to exchange vehicles for you but you did not call us to inform us of any of these concerns.

When you returned the vehicle, you were given a break-down of all the rental charges. Shuttles back to the airport are done by an independent contractor. If we feel the safety of said contractor is at risk in any capacity, we reserve the right  to  deny a shuttle  back to the airport.  If you would  like further clarification of these charges, feel free to call our office for a deeper explanation. We took an initial deposit of $400 when you rented the vehicle and when you returned,we refunded you the difference of
$93.56.

As a result of your dissatisfaction with our customer service, please accept this gift of 10% off your next rental with us. Hopefully this helps restore your faith in Phoenix Car Rental and our endless pursuit to customer satisfaction.

Please let me know If you need any additional information.

Sincerely,

This company appears at the top of google search, but I warn you, avoid this rental company like a plague. I was travelling from out of time to visit family in AZ. Called to get a quote, was told $159.00 would be cost of rental during timeframe specified. Person I spoke with rushed me off phone. Stating there were a number of calls coming in and gave me a confirmation number. I called back later to inquire on transportation services from airport. Again, was hurried of phone with limited information. I should have followed my intuition then, this didn't seem like a reputable business. When I arrived, contact the rental car company, was told due to it being Thanksgiving there were no shuttles. I would need to get a taxi and they would reimburse the drive. When I arrived, the employee acted as though he wasn't aware of it. Since I was there, I just paid the driver an proceeded to rent the car. The employee took my license and credit card. Terms and charges are not explained prior to the employee swiping my credit card. He came back with an invoice showing a $350.00 deposit along with $159.00 rental fee charged to my account. I was livid, I told him no one explained any deposit in that amount or I would have taken my business elsewhere. He explained, he wasn't the manager and no one else was around to assist me with my grievance. He suggested I call the manager later. He also stated, the $350.00 would be released from my credit card upon return of vehicle. My phone conversation with a "manager" was horrific. I was patronized and verbally assaulted when seeking to obtain a clearer explanation re: charges since the company had held $350.00 on my acct. outside of the original quoted amount of ($159) which was also applied to my card. When I was ready to return the car, I attempted to ask someone about the return policy. Since my flight would be departing in the evening after hours. Again! Still the same reply very, very, very rude! I received a snippet of information where to return the car and there would be an airport charge because it was after hours!!!! And, the $350 would be released when car was returned. I told the person I would pay for my rental in cash so the deposit would be released. Went to the company met same employee who conducted original transaction and he was not knowledgeable at all! I made my transaction told him, to release the deposit. Horrible! Horrible! Experience. THE APPEDIMY OF A CON MAN (COMPANY)

We rented a car for 2 week's through this place via an ad saying no airports tax. We not only got taxed 19 percent, we also ended up we a car with 221,000 miles on it and a transmission that slipped. It was a 6-7 year old car.the advertise new.how ever when you get their the will tell you all the new ones are out and this is what the have leaving you with a older model. With a new car price. Never again, good to rental cars .com.

I am a pastor of a church here in Phoenix Arizona and I went to this company to rent vans for our church - to take a trip to California. I had some questions about the rental contract. I asked him if I could have copies of everything I signed. He said no. I asked for a copy of the contract again and he said no. I asked for a copy of the receipt of transaction and he said no. He cursed at me using very bad language and told me to leave his property because I was asking to many questions about the contract. Other customers where surprised at the owners behavior and videoed his actions. I left the property without having anything to certify he canceled the transaction so I called the bank and my lawyer. Both are surprised at this owners behavior and so I decided to send a report concerning the negative practices of this company. We can not take the trip because, our money is held up with this company who has decided not to communicate. I am simply disappointed. I need your help. ([redacted], Pastor [redacted].

I was in need of a car while mine was in the shop ASAP. I called around to place close to my job and found this place for $129 a week what a deal. They were not friendly and customer service was horrible. I should have stayed a way the same day 5 hours later I was overheating on the freeway. I had driven the car less than 15 miles. The car flashed red and made an alarm noise so I pulled over immediately. I called in to let them know what was going on and the guy yelled at me to get off the freeway that I was going to ruin his engine. I was already pulled over on the freeway I do know better.

I had to call a friend for help and got to a safe place, Phoenix Car Rental said they would call me back within the hour. I didn't think they would since it was after hours.I asked the guy on the phone what they were going to do, he said I don't know we will figure it out later.

I had figured out from the customer service that they were going to be no help, so I just went back the next morning and gave them their keys. They made me go back and physically show them where the car was and they would not give me back any money until they found out what was wrong with it.

Later in the afternoon I got a call from Ed the only guy that was kind of nice and he said I was going to be charged about $70.00. I didn't argue over the phone I just showed up in person.

I asked in person why so much, they charged me $39.99 for the rental and the rest in fees, my exact total was $68.10. Keep in mind I had the car for a few hours and when it broke down they did not offer any help for me to get back to them. I told the guy that was too much for a few hours and he said "you are lucky we aren't charging you for the whole week"

I was involved in an accident and needed an inexpensive rental car. I went to Phoenix Car Rental because they advertised $129 a week rental. Little did I know that this rental would cost me over $240. Do NOT go here. This place lies, cheats and is the rudest business I have ever been involved with. They charge for everything. They charge 18.55% tax, which I'm going to look into. I gave them $450 deposit for $129 a week rental. I had the car 10 days. They said I still owed them $32. They added on $16.75 a day for liability. I ton them that I had my own liability insurance. They said that didn't matter, that I had paid in cash rather than by credit card. WHAT DIFFERENCE DID THAT MAKE? I still had my own insurance. They said, read the contract! I [redacted] get anyone to read the contract. You can't see it! The fine print is so tiny and so faded you can see it. I was NEVER told about any of these charges either on the phone or in person!! This business needs to be avoided like the plague! Oh, my first car from them had a quarter of a million miles on it. It would stall while driving and the engine light came on. I got a second one which got a flat tire. The spare was shredded and flat and the jack didn't work. I'm going to be looking into any legal options I can find. I spent $481 on a 10 day, $129 rental. They suck! They are also extremely rude, swearing at me and threatening small claims court because I protested the fees! Also, by my calculating, even figuring their ripoff fees I am still owed about $63!

This company continues to be dishonest. I did not rent an impala, I rented a four door Chevrolet cavalier. The representative at the food specifically stated that the insurance was taken care of with the rental fee. This company rips those in need off and then blatantly disrespects and humiliates them

?????
Well, where should I begin???..... This place should be called Phoenix rip off Car Rental. This place is a joke from the staff and the unprofessionalism to the run down pieces of s& vehicles they provide. I would honestly rate them a negative 10 if it was possible. WARNING Do not rent from these guys!!!! Shady as could be with absolutely no customer service skills. I cannot imagine how this joke of a company has been in business for 1 month let alone 45 years! Seriously, if you are reading this and thinking of renting from here steer clear away. It all started with the snooty man who answered the phone named ED (The Owner) or supposedly that was his name. He had a bad attitude from the get go and wouldn't even let me get a word in. I was calling them to get more info on a rental for 3 days but he just quoted me $140-189 plus tax said it would be a "Chevy Malibu" and hung up. I called back because I needed more info and details. He just told me to "pick up the car between 3-6pm and bring 400 dollars cash" then hung up again. So I call a third time to ask if I can pick up the vehicle from there west side location because that would be more convenient for us and he said "not a problem" . So at this point I knew it was last minute but I just wanted to get my wife and I out of Phoenix for our 14 year anniversary despite all the negative reviews and all the red flags. So I went with the flow because one of my buddies had recommended me using this place. Boy was he wrong!!! When I got to the West side location the next day right around 5:45 pm to pick up my so called Malibu. The man who finally decided to show up to the counter, after I waited ten minutes in the heat with my two kids and wife, I believe he said his name was "Mario". Right off the back he had a bad attitude and was very angry and rude. He said there was No Malibu ready for me but he did have an Impala so my wife and I decided that would work. I signed one paper gave him my 400 cash and never once did "Mario" do a walk around or a check list of the vehicle! "What rental company doesn't do a walk around or inspection first?" So we drive off and it's still light outside. We take our kids to my mom's house to drop them off so my wife and I can go home and pack everything and head out of town. Well by the time we got the kids to my mom's and got home and everything packed it was late & dark outside. We start up the "Impala" and the front passenger side headlight is out!!!!!! OMG words can't describe how mad I am already at this point...... So of course Auto zone and O'Reilly are closed at that point. I call Phoenix Car Rental and leave multiple messages for whom ever to call me back asap! No Call back, so my wife and I decided to just wait till the morning when they open up because we were already exhausted. The next morning comes I still have not received a call back and no one answered their phones until 9:15 am and they claim to open at 8am. And the kid or man who finally answered told me to "take it to Auto zone but don't tell them it's a rental because they cant legally help you". I told him NO I will bring it to u guys and you will fix it . So I run the car up to the West side location to change out the headlight and it ends up taking them an hour to do a 5 min job!!! Meanwhile my wife and I are sweating our tails off waiting OUTSIDE for them to fix it. Not one time were we offered water or any thing to accommodate us for there wrong doing. We also asked for the registration and insurance but we were told the one slip of paper I signed was all we needed as our proof of everything, but yet their was NO make or Model or VIN number written down. So we drive to California and have a blast for 3 days. And on our way back on Saturday we give them a courtesy call around 2-3pm to inform them we were going to be a half hour late or so and what does he suggest we do to drop off the car. The rude monotone voiced gentleman said bring it back Sunday morning and he's going to charge us for another day and hung up the phone. We called back numerous times to talk to him like civilized adults but he did not want to hear anything we had to say and kept hanging up. Sunday morning we show up to drop off the car and instead of empathizing, sympathizing or even recognizing any of their WRONG DOINGS. He simply had the audacity to tell my wife and I to LEAVE his property because we were trespassing ("But how are we trespassing when we were dropping off their Rental car to there property?") all we wanted was ONE of their employees to look us in the eye and tell us this wasn't a SCAM from the get go!!!!! He did not accommodate us for all the BS we went through and he charged us more and gave us no deposit back. What a scam don't fall victim like we did. GO ELSEWHERE. I don't know how this man sleeps at night knowing he is just taking peoples money hand over fist.THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN ASAP!!!!

Phoenix Car Rental is a complete sham. I gave them $300.00 to rent a car for one week at $129.00. They assured me that I would receive the balance when I returned the car. Upon returning the car they quoted me a lot of fees and taxes. So, not only were they keeping the entire $300.00 butt they said I owe them another $14.00.

Consumers beware this place is a rip off!

This company added charges AFTER we signed the bill.  Therefore the charges they added were not agreed to by us.  This is fraud.
This company has received a plethora of complaints to the Revdex.com and yet nothing has been done.  They continue to promise free shuttle service, not disclose extra fees and are horribly rude.  THIS IS A CONTINUOUS problem with this company as evidenced on your site.  No, I am not satisfied with the response.  They charged my card without my consent.  They are a shady company that continually rips their customers off.  This is not a resolution.

If you are thinking of renting here I advise you to turn and run. Worst possible experience I could even imagine let alone live through. Cars are rebuilds that are borderline runnable. Mine had over 200K miles on it. The noises were too numerous to distinguish. The people would rude and deragatory on the phone when I tried to get an explanation of costs after seeing the final charge through my credit card company. The old saying that if the deal sounds too good to be true it probably is. Run for the border as fast as possible!

Phoenix Car Rental [redacted], is a rental car place that should be called "junkyard rentals" "you can rent from us" but "rent at your own risk" and if you leave anything behind in the cars, well thats your fault because "finders keepers losers weepers"

HORRIBLE PEOPLE. THEY TOLD ME TO [redacted] OFF. MY CREDIT ON FILE HAD A NEGATIVE BALANCE AND INSTEAD OF INQUIRING ABOUT IT AND NOT ASSUMING WE WERE CROOKS, THEY GUY (NOT SURE WHAT HIS NAME IS) TOLD ME HE IMMEDIATLEY CALLED THE COPS AND THREATENED US. THEY SHOULD NO BE RUNNING. IT WA MY FAULT THAT I DIDN'T LOOK AT THEIR YELP.

I was traveling to Phoenix – as I have several times before. I had a car rental there for two weeks and asked if I could have a total. He said he couldn't give me a total until I turn the car in – nine wired about the negative reviews, he said "I don't give a damn if you rent her or not lady." I simply was asking him what would cause there to be extra fees – he said I had to bring proof that my insurance cover car rental. I said "how would I have known that, nobody told me that over the phone." He failed to explain that when I present my insurance card he calls the insurance company to make sure that I have proof. By the end of the conversation he told me to F off and that he didn't need my business and that they do just fine without me. He talked over me, did not listen to anything I had to say, and said he didn't give a damn about is reviews. We just adopted a child and makes us a family of six – I really needed to be frugal on the car rental, but I am really scared to show up to this place and deal with this guy. It's really sad.

Bad business practices , very rude costumer services and very high prices and hidden fees that they don't tell you about until you are back from your trip and come to find out that you owe more then what they had told you .

Very Misleading he told me a price on the phone. When I show up to get the car it's a different price. I needed a car Asap so I had to pay the higher price. The vehicle they rented me was very unsafe. The tires needed replaced and the windshield had to cracks in it. I would advise people never to re rent from this company.
