Progressive Business Publications Reviews (1449)

Review: Several months ago received an invoice from PBP, a company previously unknown to anyone in our office, for $199. Invoice was addressed to [redacted] (incorrect name), with an email address of [redacted] (wrong spelling of name repeated). Ignored the invoice, as we had neither ordered nor received any publications from them or any other vendor, not to mention the incorrect name. Two weeks later got another, more threatening, invoice. Filed complaint with campus police alerting them to possible mail fraud. Received the $199 publication shortly thereafter, a 4-page newsletter that had never been requested and was certainly unwanted. Marked "return to sender" and sent back. Today received another $199 invoice.

Company website is not functional, and nobody answers the phone number listed on the invoices. Company was never contacted by us and never contacted anyone here; we had no idea they existed until receiving the first $199 invoice.Desired Settlement: Desired outcome: no further communication from this company, effective immediately. Also recommend referring to any federal office that may be able to investigate and shut them down, as even a brief look around the internet turns up thousands of formal complaints and thousands more defrauded businesses and individuals. This company exists solely to scam people, businesses, and now apparently children's hospitals out of money, and ought to be pursued and shut down.

Dear [redacted]:

Thank you for your email of 2/27/14 regarding the above referenced complaint that you received on 2/7/14. After review of our detailed electronic records we would like to respond to your letter with the following explanation.

Please note that our primary method by which we secure orders is by telephone solicitation. In such cases, our representatives take orders with a 60-day right of cancellation to a 1-year subscription to one of our newsletters, books or on line programs. We have very stringent quality control procedures regarding our representatives making this offer. These include verifying the address and asking for the month and day of the person's birth date.

Regarding the specifics of this situation, please note that [redacted], A/A, placed an order on 9/11/13 for our Administrative Professional Update publication. We were provided with birth date information as [redacted]. Prior to ending the call we clearly restated the offer discussed, including the liberal 60-day, no questions asked, cancellation policy.

The birthday information is obtained, in part, to verify the conversation took place. Once the order was placed, the same computer system sent the newsletters and invoices over a 5-month period of time.

Thus the goods that were ordered by [redacted] were sent to the same address that shows on this complaint. This computer system records and tracks all confirmations, invoices, on-line programs, books, periodicals sent and cancellation requests.

With all telephone orders placed, if the ordering person does not find the information helpful, all that needs to be done is to write CANCEL on the invoice and return it to us or advise us any other way and the subscription will be stopped with no payment required, as is the publishing industry's general custom.

Please be advised that our Website is fully functional at www.pbp.com and our telephone contact center is staffed by Customer Service representatives 9:00am-5pm EST Monday-Friday.

As a courtesy we cancelled this account on 2/18/14 as they requested via U.S. Mail. There is no money due or owning on the account.

We initiated a request on 1/9/14 that the name, address and telephone number be removed from our computer files. This action takes approximately 30-days to process. In business we hesitate to say the company will never receive another mailing from us. If the company's name is misspelled or the zip code incorrect, our computers may not recognize it and something may go out. If that should happen, please call and we will remove that version too.

Please know that we do business regularly with many tens of thousands of companies who regularly place repeat orders due to their continued satisfaction and our excellent customer service.

All of our contact information is in our newsletter. It contains our address and telephone number. We also have a 2 4 hour/7 days a week voice mail system due to the large amount of calls we receive daily from our coast-to-coast subscribers.

Feel free to contact the Customer Service Department if you have any questions at ###-###-####. Thank you.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

I have never ordered anything from this company. I, as well as my co-workers at this office, receive many telephone calls on almost daily basis asking verification of doctor's, and staff working here at [redacted]) saying they need to update their information. Since this is a hospital, we deal with many different companies of all sources, but I have never received a telephone call from this company offering anything, if they ever called, it was not to offer any products; or services to me. In addition, on the bills we have been receiving, there is no telephone listed to call them back. Also, I have never received any online programs, books, periodicals; or anything else but a bill from this company here at work. I would have never order their products/services since I do not have any authorization to order anything by phone, or online. The first time I see their telephone number is in the attachment just sent from you.

I appreciate they're cancelling the account for whatever they claim I had ordered; although I know I didn't order anything.

Thank you for your help in resolving this matter.

Regards,

[redacted])

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Review: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:

I told the young lady on the phone I was not interested in the newsletter. She told me she just needed by date of birth to verify that she called me and that it was not to verify a sale.

When I got the first issue and invoice, I responded to cancel as directed. Then when I got the second invoice, I wrote cancel and sent it back. It did however get cancelled finally by phone call (after receiving a letter that we would be turned into collections) to them after I contacted the Revdex.com.

I am satisfied that the issue is resolved but do not appreciate their trickery that brought this to this point.Regards,[redacted]

Review: This company, also known as Progressive Business Publications, sends unsolicited publications to colleges. This is the second time they have tried in four years to get money from us; stating our bill is in collections for non payment when we have not received any bills and/or the publication. If publication comes, in our case to a third party security vendor who does not have authorization to spend college monies, and usually after a vacancy, there is no return address for materials. Safety called company, woman on phone refused to provide a return address. In addition after publication is sent and/or supposedly received (first one never arrived) another bill is not forthcoming. Six months later the college's business office is contacted by collections. The Revdex.com is full of complaints against both of these names who scam money from businesses, educational institutions, and who know who else. Revdex.com received over 2300 complaints in three years; those are the people who took the time. This company preys upon places where they think people will not check or remember. I have had enough of this. Publication sent in late June; person sent to left employment first week in July.Desired Settlement: I want off their billing and taken out of collections for a publication I did not solicit, want, or need. If I wish to know about my field of education and the law, I have many legitimate areas in which to spend money; not throw it away on a company that is dishonest, has no integrity, and continues its fraudulent dealings under different names.

Dear [redacted]:

Thank you for your email of 1/29/14 regarding the above referenced complaint that you received on 1/28/14.

These include verifying the address and asking for the month and day of the person's birth.

Regarding the specifics of this situation, please note that **. [redacted], Security Dir, placed an order on 5/29/13 for our Deskbook Encyclopedia Of Employment Law book and its companion newsletter. We were provided with a birth date of [redacted]. Prior to ending the conversation we clearly restated the offer discussed, including the liberal 60-day, no questions asked cancellation policy.

The birthday information is obtained, in part, to verify the conversation took place. Once the order was placed, the same computer system sent the newsletters and invoices over a 5-month period of time.

Thus the goods that were ordered by **. [redacted] were sent to the same address that shows on this complaint. This computer system records and tracks all confirmations, invoices, on-line programs, books, periodicals sent and cancellation requests. With all telephone orders placed, if the ordering person does not find the information helpful, all that needs to be done is to write CANCEL on the invoice and return it and the book to us or advise us any other way and the subscription will be stopped with no payment required, as is the publishing industry's general custom. However, if neither paid nor cancelled after 5.months, 2 warning notices plus an additional 30-day wait period the account may be turned over for collection. That is what happened in this instance.

As a courtesy we did contact the collection agency on 1/29/14 and advised the agency to cease collections and cancel the account. They have assured us that will be done. There will be no ramifications due to this account being turned over for collection and there is no money due or owing on the account.

While researching this complaint we did find that this company has done business with us in the past and is aware of our cancellation policy. We found many, many different trial subscriptions had been accepted over the years; 6-paid in full accounts, 1-current account for our Administrative Professional Update publication since 2010; while other accounts were cancelled as we instructed without issue.

We initiated a request on the same day that the name, address and telephone number be removed from our computer files. This action takes approximately 30-days to process. In business we hesitate to say the company will never receive another mailing from us. If any company information changes our computers may not recognize it and something may go out. Review: This company, Progressive Business Publications, has a known track record of scamming invoices out of business for alleged publications that were never either authorized or provided. [redacted]'s local service in California received a call from a [redacted] alleging that a sum was owed by [redacted] to Progressive. Our local management spoke with this individual who played back a recording where another employee was heard saying "yes". Upon further internal investigation the employee said " I was simply confirming my name". [redacted] does not submit to these types of publications nor would we via this method. This company is now calling and harrasing our employees at least 3 to 5 times a day and have been advised that we will pursue legal action against them.Desired Settlement: For the company Progressive Business Publications to stop harrasing our local service center employees.

Review: Progressive Business Publications called and talked to one of our employees soliciting a Safety Compliance Alert newsletter. Our employee thought it was free and agreed to receive it. We started receiving invoices from PBP for $299. Today I received a call from [redacted] from [redacted] on behalf of PBP for this amount. [redacted] stated that we needed to let them know within the first 30 days that we wanted to cancel. Our employee was not informed of this when he was initially called. I had initially agreed with [redacted] to pay $130 for 10 email newsletters that our employee received, but I am skeptical about paying them for something I feel we were scammed into receiving. I feel PBP intentionally mislead our employee into receiving this newsletter. I don't believe we owe this bill.Desired Settlement: For this company to stop misleading people/companies.

Review: We received an invoice for 6 months for a service that was cancelled. Each of these months, I placed a call and followed the directions to leave a message with my account number to cancel the account. I first did this during the trial period when I realized that this newsletter would not benefit me. I received a call this month after I sent an email requesting a call and they forced me to pay $122.92 to get my account from collections.

I pay my bills and do not have a problem with that with any other company. This company, however, refuses to take responsibility. They practically called me a liar on the phone saying that I did not call themDesired Settlement: I would like to be credited the $122.92 that I just payed.

Review: We received an invoice # [redacted] against account #[redacted] requesting payment for a subscription that was not ordered. We have previously had similar difficulties with this company and after getting a prior issue resolved have requested via certified mail on at least 12/22/09, 03/03/10, 08/06/10, and 12/30/11 to have our company name removed from their mailing list to have no further soliciations. These requests have not stopped the company from sending solicitations out and now once again sending an invoice for a service that was not agreed to. It appears that we may be forced to file legal action against the company to stop the harrassing solicitations.Desired Settlement: We request the invoice to be removed from their books and no further contact be made in the future for solicitation of products.

They stated confirmation email was sent to me on 12/3, which was a Saturday. I have no record of ever receiving an email nor have I ever received a publication/invoice. Stated newsletters were supposebly sent to physicians office where they would have been required to pay additional postage when delivered.

At this time we have received NO newsletters, NO invoices, have NO proof of paying additional postage for newsletter to be delivered and NO email confirmation. 7/16/2013 is the first time I have heard about this outstanding invoice and now they are threatening to take further action against me & the hospital in which I work.Desired Settlement: Want the unauthorized charge of $198.00 dismissed.

I STATED WE DON'T NEED ANYTHING BUT THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION.Desired Settlement: WE DID NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM AND IF THEY TAKE IT UPON THEMSELVES TO SEND OUT THINGS, IT SHOULD BE FREE. June 12, 2014Dear [redacted]:Thank you for your email of 6/10/14 regarding the above referenced complaint that you received on 6/6/14. These include verifying the address, asking for the month and day of the person's birth date and asking for the person's email or fax number so we can send written confirmation of the order within 24 hours. This serves to encourage contact with us if there are any mistakes or changes that need to be made.Regarding the specifics of this situation, please note that **. [redacted], Treas, placed an order on 3/11/14 for our Environmental Compliance Alert publication. We were provided with birth date information as [redacted], as well as an email address. Within 24 hours of the discussion, we sent a confirmation letter that clearly restated the offer discussed, including the liberal 60-day, no questions asked, cancellation policy. Our computers show that the confirmation went through without any problems. The birth date information is obtained, in part, to verify the conversation took place. Once the order was placed, the same computer system sent the newsletters and invoices over a 2-month period of time. Thus the goods that were ordered by **. [redacted] were sent to the same address that shows on this complaint. This computer system records and tracks all confirmations, invoices, on-line programs, books, periodicals sent and cancellation requests. With all telephone orders placed, if the ordering person does not find the information helpful, all that needs to be done is to write CANCEL on the invoice and return it to us or advise us any other way and the subscription will be stopped with no payment required, as is the publishing industry's general custom. As a courtesy we cancelled this account on 5/30/14 as he requested via U.S. Mail. There is no money due or owing on the account. We initiated a request on 6/11/14 that the name, address and telephone number be removed from our computer files. This action takes approximately 30-days to process. In business we hesitate to say the company will never receive another mailing from us. If any company information changes our computers may not recognize it and something may go out. If that should happen, simply call us and we will remove that version, too. Please know that we do business regularly with thousands of companies who place repeated orders due to their continued satisfaction and our excellent customer service. All of our contact information is in our newsletter and it contains our toll free telephone number. We, also, have a 24 hour/7 days a week voice mail system due to the large amount of calls we receive daily from our coast-to-coast subscribers.Feel free to contact the Customer Service Department if you have any questions at [redacted].Thank you.

Review: I began receiving items from this company a few months ago. I was under the impression that they were being sent out as spam mail to all local businesses so I just threw away the items because I never requested them or approved the purchase of anything from the company. Last week I received a notice in the mail saying that the company wants $230 for a one year subscription that I, nor anyone else at the [redacted], approved. I sent an email to the company stating that much and told them I would not pay for this unapproved service because I never signed off on anything nor was I contacted by a rep from their company.Desired Settlement: I would like this company to stop requesting that we pay the invoice for something we never requested or agreed to pay for. I want the invoice to be made void and the amount owed to the company by the [redacted] set to zero. I would also like them to not contact me or anyone at the [redacted] after this event.

Review: The Center for Education & Employment Law keeps sending bills to our company claiming someone has order something from them. The total charges are $241.95 for two products that no one at our company has ever ordered or requested. The Center for Education & Employment Law claims our company owes them money but we are not interested in what they are selling and have asked them to stop trying to collect payment when it is something we do not want or did not order. We have asked them repeatedly to stop calling and sending us bills but they keep trying to collect payment. This appears to have happened to other companies as well.Desired Settlement: We are asking for your help to resolve this matter. We are not interest in their products and would like them to stop harassing us. We will also be filing a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney Generals office.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me; however, [redacted] does not recall any such phone call conversation and placing any order.

Regards,

Review: I received a phone call requesting to speak with a Safety Officer in this company. The caller, [redacted], wanted to get my company to purchase and review a newsletter. In this phone conversation it was stated that "I DO NOT WANT TO PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT, AND DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT".The caller [redacted], Account Representative stated "THIS IS A FREE TRIAL AND I DO NOT HAVE TO CONTACT THEM TO REQUEST TERMINATION OF THIS PRODUCT/NEWS LETTER". This rep [redacted] was so persistent that I agreed to the "TRIAL ONLY", and do not want to have to pay or cancel this trial at the end of the trial period. When she asked for my information, I asked her why. She stated it was needed to authorize the trial to begin. I "DID NOT" and "DO NOT" have the authority to order, or purchase anything that the company has to pay for, and told her this on the phone. This caller would not get off the line so I agreed to this trial because she stated "THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO CALL TO CANCEL THIS TRIAL, IT WOULD JUST RUN OUT".I can not even remember going to this web site, and the newsletters were not helpful to the point I have been sending them directly to my junk E-mail folder and deleting them. This is a SCAM COMPANY and I don not think we should have to pay for, or be held accountable for service charges for a product that was not authorized and used by this company.I never received a E-mail telling me my trial was to expire and payment was needed. It was just billed and sent with out notification. The bill sent stated this is the 3rd. notice, and a written confirmation was sent. I only received a e-mail that was welcoming me, and just like the newsletters I sent it to the "JUNK BOX"!!!!!!!!!!Please help to quickly resolve this issue to avoid a good company from being "REPORTED and SCAMED" by a "VERY VERY VERY BAD COMPANY"Desired Settlement: I would like to have my company abolished and removed from any liabilities or responsibilities in paying for a product that was not authorized by my company to be ordered. I would also like for my company to be removed from receiving this UN-UESFUL and WORTHLESS INFORMATION that Progressive Business Publications has offered. I agreed to a "TRIAL PERIOD ONLY"!!!

Review: In March, the Progressive Business Publications contacted me for a subscription of their safety compliance alert for the company I am employeed. I told them my company does not allow me to buy this type of product. Progressive Business assured me that they worked with my company. They said to let them send a copy with an invoice, if my company will not pay, simply write cancel on the invoice and nothing will be owed. When I received the invoice, I inquired and was not permitted to pay for the subscription with company funds. I wrote cancel on the invoiced and returned it. On September 27th, I received a call from International Credit Recovery, Inc saying Progressive Business was persuing legal against against me and my company for a bill of $130.00 Progrssive Business publications states they never received the cancellation notice and mailed the product to me. I do not know what form this product was in because I never received anything from this company. Because I felt obligated and no relief from the harrassment that was going to follow, and the embarrassment I would surely endure from my company, I paid this unethical, grossly fraudlent company the money.Desired Settlement: I want my money returned. I do not think you should have to pay for product you never received.

Cordially,

Review: This company is underhanded in the way they do business. They speak to some random person on the phone about a subscription to a newsletter and stipulate that you have 60 days to cancel or you will have to pay for a full year. We have 200 employees working at this site and no one is authorized agree to such a thing unless it is approved by the Accounting Department. We did not receive any paperwork what so ever explaining this policy and were not aware of the billing until close to six months after the fact when received a collections letter. Poor customer service!Desired Settlement: I would like my subscription cancelled and never renewed again, I wouldn't do business with these people ever again. Customer Service was completely out of line.

October 16, 2014Dear [redacted]:Thank you for your email of 10/10/14 regarding the above referenced agency complaint that you received on 10/8/14. After review, we would like to respond to your letter with the following detailed explanation. Please note that our primary method by which we secure orders is by telephone solicitation. In such cases, our representatives take orders with a 60-day right of cancellation to a 1-year subscription to one of our newsletters, books or on line programs. We have very stringent quality control procedures regarding our representatives making this offer. These include verifying the mailing address, asking for the month and day of the person’s birth date and asking for the person’s email address or fax so we can send written confirmation of the order within 24 hours. This serves to encourage contact with us if there are any mistakes or changes that need to be made.Regarding the specifics of this situation, please note that [redacted], Facilities Dir, placed an order on 3/17/14 for our Safety Compliance Alert publication and he provided us with birth date information as [redacted], as well as an email address. Within 24 hours of the discussion, we sent a confirmation letter that clearly restated the offer discussed, including the liberal 60-day, no questions asked cancellation policy. Our computers show that the confirmation went through without any problems. The birth date information is obtained, in part, to verify the conversation took place. Once the order was placed, the same Computer system sent the newsletter and invoices over a 5-month period of time. Thus the goods that were ordered by [redacted] were sent to the same address that shows in this complaint. This computer system records and tracks all confirmations, invoices, on-line programs, books, periodicals sent and cancellation requests. It does not show ever receiving a cancellation request or mail returned as \undeliverable”. If we had we would have cancelled the account immediately. With all telephone orders placed, if the ordering person does not find the information helpful, all that is required is to write CANCEL on the invoice and return that to us or advise us any other way and the subscription will be stopped with no payment required, as is the publishing industry’s general custom. However, if neither paid nor cancelled after 5-months, 2-warning notices, plus an additional 30-day wait period the account may be turned over for collection. That is what happened in this instance. As a courtesy we contacted the collection agency on 10/8/14 and advised them to cease collection and cancel this account. They have assured us that this will be done. There will be no ramifications due to this account going for collection and there is no money due or owing on this account. On the same day they emailed our Customer Service Department stating that they paid the collection agency in full. We contacted the collection agency and they told us that they did not receive payment to date. While researching this complaint we did find that this company has done business with us in the past and is aware of our cancellation policy. We found many, many `risk free” subscriptions had been accepted before; 1–paid in full account while others were cancelled as we instructed. Further, we did find a risk free subscription that [redacted] accepted entitled the Environmental Compliance Alert and he cancelled that without issue. Please know that we do business regularly with thousands of companies who place "repeat” orders due to their continued satisfaction and our excellent customer service. All of our contact information is in the newsletter and it contains our toll free telephone number. Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

Although this company has removed my business from it's contact lists, the facts of the matter stand that they purposely attempted to solicit a sale to someone that had no authority to make a purchase in my business name and who did not agree to purchase anything for herself. The deceptive methods that these people use should not be allowed to continue. A review of their business reveals many complaints such as mine.
