Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

That is not the conversation we had. First there is no employer. We are appraisers who are contracted out to the client company. Second, the Sterling Rep confirmed they do NOT give copies or the report to the subject of the report, ever. The client company did send me a copy because they were shocked that Sterling had refused to send a copy automatically. Third, if there is a way to simply print a copy from their web site why would Sterling require a copy of my drivers license to send me a copy? And why would they not tell me to retrieve it from the web site? Also, why would they not return phone calls or emails? Numerous misleading statements by the Sterling Rep.

Sterling has received the dispute from [redacted] and is now re-investigating the information returned in her consumer report.  We expect to conclude the re-investigation shortly.  If any information reported is found to be incorrect, we will immediately amend the report and provide...

new report to both [redacted] and her prospective employer.

SterlingBackcheck is in receipt of the complaint and we have reached out directly to [redacted] to correct the issue in our contact database. This matter will be remedied immediately and we regret the inconvenience.

As previously stated, the typical turnaround time for background checks can be from two days to two weeks, depending on the services that we are performing.  With employment verifications we are depending on the applicant's employers to respond to our phone calls and emails.  With this particular background check, we did have to contact the applicant multiple times for permission to contact the former employers or to obtain various forms to complete the work.  At this time I"m showing this background to be complete, if something is inaccurate please let us know so we can assist you with updating the information.

SterlingBackcheck is in receipt of the issue filed by [redacted].  SterlingBackcheck has attempted to confirm the education history of the complainant, but the institution to which we attempted to verify, outsources their verification to another service.  This outsourced service has not...

yet provided confirmation of the education history.  Should they respond to SterlingBackcheck, that information will be added to the background check report.  We regret any inconvenience, but note that every effort has been made with the data holder to verify this person's education history.  The data holder has not responded unfortunately.

The individual in this complaint initially contacted SterlingBackcheck on 8/**/2014 to discuss their consumer report. SterlingBackcheck is a Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA), as defined under both federal...

and state laws. As per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, we must complete our re-investigation within 30 days of the dispute being received. SterlingBackcheck has investigated the claim and completed the re-investigation, and has amended the applicants consumer report as of 9/**/2014.

I've just been contacted by the same company in regards to a position I've applied for asking for additional information to be able to proceed with the process. They also gave only a 48 hour turn around. The email they sent along with "forms" are so vague, I am not sure what it is they are wanting. I have no criminal record but there is a form for additional info? They sent a copy of a report that states complete level 1. How am I to know what that means? Of course I missed the 48 hour deadline because I am not a person that checks my email daily. Why not just call and be a little more professional. With that being said, I've probably missed a job opportunity as well. Sounds like Sterling shouldn't be used for background checks.

I'm offended to find that my new [redacted] account has been suspended, because the background check that was just done by Sterling was for the wrong person. The name on the report is not mine, as I don't even have a middle name, as was in the report. I called the number provided, but I haven't gotten an answer. Please verify before you do background checks on people. I'm so offended.

I wouldn't be so convinced by their excuse of "oops wrong person"... to me that is an easy out from them and you have the right to read all information in your report to determine if it is indeed the wrong person or a previous employer or agency falsifying information.

I have applied for two jobs that I know of that used sterling and the back ground check came back on first job and showed that I had a drug charge and open warrant from feb 2014 I have never done drug or manufactured them the name was correct but did not display all of my ssn or birthdate called them and they said that they only run back ground check from name and birthdate how the hell do you do a back ground check with out using ssn# the ssn# is the one id that's one of a kind to that person they can be more than one person with same name and birthdate but not all 3 verifications combined sterling is a joke and has costed me possiblally 2 jobs cause by the time they do fix it job may not be there
And this is why I knew this was bs on there part I just legally purchased a gun two weeks and that's not on my record cause I could not have done so with a felony

This company is the worst their background check is a joke. As an applicant I revived an email from them saying I needed to provide them with pay stubs for a job I had a long time ago for them to complete the background check. They told me to get the information from the IRS if I didn’t have have it. So let me get this straight you the background check company needs me to do your job and hunt down an old pay stub. When I called they said it’s a policy if they can not get a hold of the employer it’s my job to get the information. In all my years of working I have never been asked this from a background check. This place is a total joke.

Sterling talent does not believe they have to operate with in the limits of the law. Pulls and reports inaccurate information and sends to employees even after they have been told about inconsistencies. If it is not 100% true reporting it is illegal.

My name is Charles Larsen, I am employed at Turner Services in Baton Rouge, LA. My phone # is 225-678-9480. I need to speak with someone about my report. There is a problem with my conviction date that was given to Turner on my report. Could someone please return my call so I can speak with a person to see if we can clear it up. Thank you very much for your time.

Wal-Mart distribution center had Sterling to conduct a background check on me and I was refused a job for having a misdemeanor in 1991. This is so uncalled for, 25 years ago!!! This company should close its doors, causing honest, hard working people not to get valuable jobs they need to survive.

Review: Company charged $74.00 for a background check. The price was double what I normally paid.

The report they send is garbage. They say they run a "national" background check. There is no such thing.

Called them and they said they would refund the $74.00. Its been 18 days, constant emailing back to them asking for my refund and all I get is "sorry, checking with the finance team."Desired Settlement: I want the $74.00 they withdrew from my account returned like they promised they would do 18 days ago!

Response:

Balance was refunded to the customer on April *, 2015.

Review: Our company filed a background check, the company Sterling Back Check has false information on the report. They will not clear the information from their system in a timely fashion, even though we gave them all of the information needed. They do not return phone calls, emails, they will not give direct extensions numbers for supervisors. They actually told me to "stop calling, when we resolve it, we will contact you." This is a huge detriment to our company, we have lost a huge contract for our company because of this issue.Desired Settlement: I want the dispute issue cleared up ASAP, and a written letter from their company stating why they have done this to our company.

Response:

Please note that Sterling Backcheck has reinvestigated the concerns brought forward by [redacted]. The result of the reinvestigation resulted in the amendment of a consumer report ordered by her company. The reinvestigation process, which may take up to 30 days per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, is conducted in a thorough manner. SterlingBackcheck understands the frustration of a delayed result, but the reinvestigation process follows an established set of processes, which includes working with the providers of disputed information. We regret the time taken for the reinvestigation, but note that all processes were followed with the guidelines required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Review: The Seward House Museum in Auburn, NY used Sterling to conduct back ground checks in 2011 and in 2012. We never had a contract with Sterling to continue services and now they are attempting to charge us for an "Annual Maintenance fee" for 2013 and 2014. We closed the account in 2012. We did pay the maintenance fee in 2011 and 2012 when the account was active. They are sending emails several times a week requesting payment and even though I have responded to their email and called them they are continuing to send emails stating that they are "still looking into the matter"Desired Settlement: I want them to cease the emails and the request for a maintenance fee for 2013 & 2014 as we are no longer using this service and closed the account in 2012.

I am a realtor. To receive relocation referrals from a company, I had to submit a background check request online to Sterling Background Check. The 1st was submitted on 12/*. I was asked by my company if I had submitted the request. I called Sterling to find out that they had no record of my submission, yet - I was charged $31.50. Since then, I have submitted 3 additional requests, being charged $31.50 for each - and have been told by Sterling that they did not receive a one! The 4th submission was done by an employee of Sterling while I was on the phone! Every time I've spoken to customer service with Sterling I have yet to get a representative that I can understand & they've butchered my name! This is very frustrating to me, as - I rely on referral business coming in for my livelihood! I was told there was a problem with the software and would have to wait until they got it straightened out to submit a request. I was sent refund forms for the 4 times I was charged (I haven't seen a refund yet). This time ... I submitted the form again after being told this was fixed. I was charged again. I called to verify that Sterling had received my submittal - which, after speaking to 4 people at Sterling, of which all were very hard to understand ([redacted]) ... told me they could not find my submittal! They would have someone in-charge contact me ASAP! Did I mention, I've left 3 un-returned voicemails and have never been contacted by "That Person". My business has suffered because of this company.
