Review: I was denied a job with the University of Wyoming due to incorrect information Sterling Infosystems provided on my background check. in it was non conviction information, incorrect conviction information stating I was charged with posession of 3 ounces or more of marijuana as a misdemeanor, which in wyoming over 3 ounces in personal posession is a felony.Desired Settlement: I want the correct information recollected by them and resent to the university and to myself, digital and paper copy. I would like a sincere apology from the company and help in resolving this problem. If absolutely nothing is done to resolve this issue, a lawyer will be met with and spoken to about further actions.

Review: Background:

Upon receiving a job offer from [redacted] in July 2013, I was asked to come in to [redacted] HR department on September [redacted] to complete on-boarding paperwork. One of the documents requested to be completed was a Sterling Infosystems background check document, which included a verification of my medical education. On September [redacted] I was called by a member of [redacted] HR department, asking me to resubmit my Sterling Infosystems application because Sterling Infosystems was not able to validate my education with the information I provided. I was specifically asked to complete the Sterling application again using [redacted] New York office address instead of the [redacted] address. I did as instructed and resubmitted my Sterling application to [redacted] HR department on September [redacted]. A few minutes later the same individual asked that I also submit a copy of my Medical Diploma, which I also then submitted. On October [redacted], I was emailed by a senior [redacted] HR who also was handling my paperwork, asking me for clarification on the information I provided to verify my education, namely "on if you [I] completed your [my] degree in [redacted] or the US. The campus in the US is stating that they have no record." I replied to her asking how else should I prove my MD degree completion. I received no reply.

On October *, 2013 I took it upon myself to contact Sterling Infosystems directly by email requesting documentation of the contact sterling made with my school in order to determine how Sterling was provided with inaccurate information. After 1 week, I received no reply.

On October [redacted] 2013 I called Sterling Infosystems (###-###-####). Initially spoke with [redacted] (from [redacted])...apparently this company uses outsourced resources. After providing my Social Security Number and date of birth, [redacted] transfers me to [redacted], also in [redacted] (employee ID:[redacted]). [redacted] stated that the status of my education verification is "unperformable" and requires "international verification". [redacted] also stated that on October [redacted], [redacted] "closed" my file having only my background check verified and not my education. I asked [redacted] to provide me with all that she told me in writing by fax or email and she said she could not and directed me to my account representative [redacted] (apparently he is based in NYC). She forwarded me to his number where I left a voice message asking him to contact me. After 2 full business days still no reply.

Problem:

Sterling Infosystems has not responded to my request for information, severely delaying my employment start.Desired Settlement: Desired Outcome:

For Sterling to provide with documentation of who they contacted at the University I graduated so that I may pinpoint the source of this issue.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The reason provided simply does not explain why after I provided several pieces of documentation to support my medical education was simply not given consideration. Further investigation is needed to get to the root of the issue.

Response:

Due to the risk of fraudulently supplied credential documents, SterlingBackcheck can only "verify" information through an institution. Up until this point, the institution has yet to "verify" the information provided to them. We regret that this is an inconvenience, but this is the only true method of verification.

Review: I began a job via a temporary agency on 11-**.13, who used Sterling Info Systems as their preferred company to run a background check on me. On Monday morning while working, I received a call from the agency stating the background company "American Background" provided them with a failed background check. Prior to the agency running a background check on me, the job site ran a very in depth and detailed back ground check on me that was obtained directly from LA County jurisdiction. This background check came back clean as a whistle. No problems and no discrepancies. Over a month later, I was told that American Background a.k.a. Sterling Info Systems (SIS) obtained information from the courts directly saying I had something that was on my background. I contacted the company directly to inquire about this supposed charge and the out sourced rep was unknowledgeable about the matter and told me that the info they receive is retrieved directly from the courts when in actuality it is not. I asked him, "if I go to the courts directly and obtain specific details regarding this charge, they are going to tell me the exact same thing?" I replied, "yes!" I was immediately removed from the job site and drove to the court building to be told, they had no idea what this company was and where they obtained that information, because it was not from the courts. I then faxed over valid court docs supporting the claims and I was told a dispute would be initiated and could take up to 30 days. After faxing the doc over, I called back and spoke to a "[redacted]" by the name of [redacted]who gave me the WORST customer service/attitude I had ever experienced from a company while escalating a matter to a higher up. She brushed off my concerns, acted non-chalant, and at the close of the call gave me a very sarcastic laugh and "good-bye." She acted with no sense of urgency, no regard, and sounded as if she was having a bad day. I explained to her, the information they were reporting was incorrect, inaccurate, and not valid. This was making me look bad to my job that I am fairly new on and can jeopardize my job. I told her I was a single mom and me being off work was causing me a financial hardship because I was not being paid for this time off. Her responses were very blunt. She stated the previous rep should not have told me the information that is being reported comes from the courts, because she does not even know where it comes from. I continued to explain that another company ran a background check on me with no problem and now they (SIS) are reporting something otherwise. I took it upon myself to contact the other background people directly to find out if their reporting is retrieved from the courts directly or via a third party and they stated, "due to the clients request and the type of background check ran, we were required to obtain the official court records and the other company may have used a online website to do the background check. At the close of the call with the supervisor, I was still never provided with an eta for the conclusion of the dispute or the any hope that the matter would be rectified positively since they reported incorrectly.Desired Settlement: I would like for Sterling Info Systems to contact my employer IMMEDIATELY and clear up the incorrect info they reported so I can return back to work. I would also like a formal apology and be paid for the total lost wages.

Review: Hello,

I am filing a complaint again a backround check agency! I was offered the job and received my letter stating they offerd me the position. They ran my backround check through sterling. Well for one I don't think any of the employees know how to do their job! Two the backround check that was ran on me is a bit off with dates the the case type is incorrect! The hospital that was going to hire me used Sterling infosystems to run the check on me. They are horrible, horrible, horrible!!!!! The person that spoke to me over the phone was not helpful and their was a HUGE communication barrier!!! THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE! I didn't get the job and the first time I contacted them I asked the lady over the phone if I could provide anymore information to her? She said no everything is good. Well that was a lie!Desired Settlement: To process my dispute and fix the issues for me!

Sincerely,

Review: Sterling Infosystems, Inc. was contracted to perform a background check in connection with my application for employment. In a phone conversation Sterling stated that they discovered a felony conviction in 1991 for cocaine possession in Richmond, VA. In 1991 I was 14 years old, and in high school in RI, and had never been in Richmond, VA. Sterling said they would open an investigation, which would take 30 days. Because of Sterling's gross error and delay, my potential employer may well fill the position with someone else.Desired Settlement: Have Sterling correct their error IMMEDIATELY!!

Business

Response:

An amended copy of [redacted]' report was mailed to him on Friday, March [redacted]. On the same day, we notified the prospective employer that we had amended the report and they have subsequently received an updated copy. Again, we regret any inconvenience.

Consumer

Response:

The error has finally been corrected and the inaccurate information has finally been removed from my report. However, after Infosystems first response to Revdex.com on Friday , March **that the error had been corrected, I called Infosystems that day, and the representative stated that the error remained on my report. I called again first thing on Monday, March **, and, again, the representative stated that the error remained. It was not until later on March **, after another call, that they stated the error had been corrected, and removed from my report. The fact remains, however, that Infosystems made an initial gross error in their initial report, and that never should not have happened. If I had not initially called Infosystems, and found out about their error, this could have gone on much longer. It took several phone calls and a complaint to Revdex.com before Infosystems finally corrected their shoddy work and grossly inaccurate report.

Sincerely,

Sterling Background Check is a far below par service. The amount of information demanded was excruciating. I received a notice from them stating that they were unable to verify my high school education, and that a copy of my diploma was required to proceed. When I contacted my high school, the receptionist reported that she had just missed the call and received the voicemail five minutes prior to my notice from Sterling. They made one half hearted attempt to verify my information before requesting me to procure documentation myself. Also, they reported to me that they couldn't verify a previous employer from six years prior, and demanded that I provide pay stubs to prove my employment. Pay stubs from six years ago is ridiculous. Especially when all of that information should have been available through a check I could have done myself online. The entire process took three weeks, and delayed my start date at my new job because of a ridiculously inefficient and incompetent background check service.

Review: I applied to go back to 24 hour fitness after 2 months, Sterling did the screening and reported a Cooke County Criminal case [redacted]. The case was reported as a Felony and cost me my job at **. The case is clearly a Misd charge. I called Sterling and gave them court copies stating the case was a Misd. I filed complaint [redacted] with Sterling and they have not rectified the situation. They will not give me their Company license number or information on their insurance. I have called over 10 times in the past two days and ask to speak to a [redacted]. No manager will come to the phone or return my phone calls. I am losing wages due to their negligence in reporting inaccurate information.Desired Settlement: They need to contact 24 hour fitness and give the correct information immediately so that I can begin work. I want a copy of their state license number to file with the state about their error and I want a copy of their errors and ommissions insurance.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because

the problem has not been resolved. Sterling has not apologized for their error causing me my job. I am unemployed with lost wages. I have repeadly ask Sterling for their insurance provider.

Sterling is licensed with the State of Nevada and required to carry insurance. I have a consumer right to that information to file my complaint.

Sincerely,

Review: This company was responsible for running a background check on me prior to employment. Even with complete information my place and time of graduation, with phone numbers and addresses complete, they were unable to verify my graduation and I may lose my new job as a result. Their solution was for me to provide THEM with a copy of my diploma, or my transcript. I'm sorry, their job is to run background checks for companies. Asking the potential employee to provide them the information needed so they can give it to the employer is completely ridiculous. WHAT WERE YOU HIRED FOR?Desired Settlement: Finish the job and provide my employer proof of my graduation. It's right out there. If you can do a background check, you can get this information. No employer of mine has ever had trouble performing this simple, simple task.

Business

Response:

SterlingBackcheck is in receipt of the issue filed by [redacted]. SterlingBackcheck has attempted to confirm the education history of the complainant, but the institution to which we attempted to verify, outsources their verification to another service. This outsourced service has not yet provided confirmation of the education history. Should they respond to SterlingBackcheck, that information will be added to the background check report. We regret any inconvenience, but note that every effort has been made with the data holder to verify this person's education history. The data holder has not responded unfortunately.

[Your Answer Here]

Determining my graduation or lack of graduation is the very definition of your job. Figure out a way to do it. I personally ordered copies of my education history today with no trouble at all. Hopefully I will keep my new job until they arrive. This was your job to do and the reason my company hired you. It is not my job to provide you with copies of my education history, you should be able to get those because you are a company that professes to conduct background checks. Take a look at your Revdex.com rating. There is a reason it has that rating.
