While our programs are generally intended for employment purposes, the school cannot guarantee employment as a result of completion. This limitation of promise is clearly stated in our enrollment agreement. Employment prospects will, of course, depend on local demand and requirements, applicant quality, and many other factors. We would strongly urge that students investigate specific local conditions, both in terms of licensing requirements and potential employer expectations prior to any decision regarding a study program. In this case, the student enrolled in our Teacher Aide program on March 23, 2017. The student was provided with and has since successfully completed her course of study, graduating on August 3, 2017. Her completion documents were issued shortly thereafter. The student's tuition was paid in full in keeping with her agreement. I would reiterate that program completion does not provide any employment guarantee. The school does not suggest any such guarantee. On the contrary, the issue is explicitly addressed in our enrollment agreement and elsewhere. Similarly, students are urged not to assume that any transferable credits will apply with respect to any other school or program, but rather should always check with the receiving institution to confirm any such expectation. I would maintain that the education provided through the student's course of study may very well assist both employment prospects and effectiveness, and it should remain a positive supplement to any other training or educational path the student may wish to follow. Beyond the academic achievement involved, any education a student receives is likely to provide a competitive advantage and increased effectiveness and opportunity, even where additional training or requirements may be mandated or desirable.

According to our records, this student requested that monthly payments be processed from the credit card she supplied during her online enrollment process. I would point out that students are provided with two clear options during the online enrollment process, a single payment in full or, alternatively, a time payment plan. The latter choice features the statement: "Charge my down payment of [down payment amount] and then charge [monthly payment amount] each month for [number of months] months." This is immediately followed by additional explanation: "If you choose monthly payments, your first monthly payment will be charged to your credit card one month after your enrollment has been accepted by the school. Your credit card will be charged every month until your tuition is paid in full." In the next step, an applicant is required, by typing an electronic signature, to verify the details entered, including the following statement which reiterates the payment method, amounts, and schedule: "Please bill my credit card [down payment amount] as a down payment and [monthly payment amount] per month for [number of months] months for a total tuition of [total tuition amount]." Prior to submission of the form data, a complete statement of terms is then provided for the applicant's review, including a detailed description of the cancellation policies and procedures. In addition, the applicant is further requested to "Please print a copy of this agreement for your records." This enrollment process is by no means unclear, nor did the student chose to make the required monthly payments by any other means during the period to which she refers, specifically November 2015 through February 2016. For that reason payments were processed from the card automatically in accordance with her clear request and authorization. The student did not choose to contact the school to raise any concerns regarding payments, or to request the automatic payments discontinued, until March 1st, 2016. As a result, no future payments will be processed by that means.

At this stage, the student has received and completed a significant portion of the course, submitting a total of eight exams during the period of her enrollment. She has been charged a partial amount in accordance with her tuition agreement, and the school is certainly justified in expecting payment of the outstanding balance of $152.38. The student is welcome to contact our Student Services department in order to make payment arrangements. SCI provides high-quality diploma programs through distance education, and we remain committed to maintaining a reasonable level of support for students and graduates in their efforts to reach their own career objectives. I would certainly invite the student to consider completing her program, or perhaps she would like to consider the option of a transfer to a different course of study. Beyond the academic achievement involved, any education a student receives is likely to provide a competitive advantage and increased effectiveness and opportunity, even where additional training or requirements may be mandated.

Please note that, although some online services are available, our programs may generally be completed without any internet access by simply using the postal system. In this case, our record indicates that the student had enrolled in our Teacher Aide program on January 3, 2017. She subsequently left a telephone message on May 5, 2017 with our Student Services department requesting to discontinue the program, which request was evidently processed on May 8, 2017. A statement of terms and confirmation was mailed to the student's address of record via USPS on May 9, 2017. At that stage, the student was entitled to a partial refund, which was later processed to the account of origin. On June 12, 2017, the student called the school and informed one of our representatives that she had only intended to discuss the cancellation of her program, and she expressed a desire to continue with the course, at which point her file was accordingly reactivated. The student informed the same representative that she would call the school in order to resume her tuition payments as required under the terms of her original agreement. The student later submitted several assignments, completing her first study module. Additional shipments were, however, automatically held while the tuition account remained in arrears. When the student did make her next tuition payment, on June 27, 2017, that hold was released and her next study module was requested the next day. It was shipped to the student on July 5, 2017. The package was apparently delivered on July 10, 2017, so it is my assumption that the student does have her study material and is currently working on it, although we have not received any exam submissions as of yet. I will monitor the student file in an effort to ensure that there are no unnecessary shipping delays in future.   There does appear to have been a few days delay respecting the shipment of the second study module, perhaps due to the Independence Day holiday. I would certainly offer my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused, and equally where the student may have experienced any difficulty in her interaction with any member of our staff. We will, of course, review the communication record so that any specific problems can be appropriately addressed. If the student has any additional questions or concerns with respect to these issues, I would ask that she contact me directly through our Student Services department at her convenience.

However, the application that was signed by the student and returned to the school in order to commence this enrollment does, in fact, contain a clear and detailed description of the school's cancellation policies and procedures; this explains all applicable charges depending on the circumstances under which the student should choose to discontinue. This information is freely available on our website, where a copy of the same enrollment agreement and refund policy is posted. Our representatives are also readily available to answer any questions that may arise concerning any of the school's policies and procedures, and they certainly do their best to respond with accuracy, effectiveness, and with courtesy. Since the student has signed to attest that he has read his enrollment agreement in its entirety, including as mentioned the detailed description of the school's cancellation policies and procedures, I must admit to some difficulty in understanding the comments presented in this response. However, we have waived the applicable balance on this account as a gesture of goodwill, and the file is now closed without any additional obligation on the student's part.

In this case, the student has been enrolled in our Accounting course since April 27, 2016, and she has successfully completed four assignments as of July 11, 2016. Students may certainly choose to discontinue their studies at any time over the course of their enrollment with SCI by informing the school of an intention to do so. Some charges may apply depending on the duration of enrollment and the specific stage of course completion at the time of withdrawal. Cancellation policies and procedures are described in detail in our Tuition Contract and Service Guarantee, to which the student has agreed during her online enrollment process. To this date, there is no indication in the record that the student has contacted the school to express a desire to discontinue her course. If that is indeed her intention, a cancellation processed at present under normal conditions would result in a small account balance payable of $39.28. However, please note that, as a matter of policy, the school does routinely extend consideration where documentation is provided to demonstrate that cancellation is required for medical reasons. Where a student is able to submit a physician's note, the school would certainly consider waiving any outstanding balance that would normally apply. In this instance, no such documentation has yet been received. I would also remind the student that there is no deadline imposed for course completion, and students are welcome to take as much time as may be required to complete their course-work, a factor which may have some impact on the student's ultimate decision concerning her program.  In any event, I would welcome the opportunity to address the student's specific concerns, and to assist to the best of my ability in resolving any residual issues under the best possible conditions, should the student wish to contact me directly through our Student Services department.

In this case, the student enrolled with the school on July 8, 2013 and subsequently completed the large majority of her program, receiving and completing fifteen of eighteen study modules and submitting a total of fifty-eight assignments and exams. There is no indication in the record that the student ever effectively informed the school of an intention to cancel her program, nor is it evident that the issues raised in the present complaint were ever communicated to the school. It would appear that the student simply stopped making the required tuition payments after July 10, 2015, the account lapsed into arrears with no apparent response from the student to any inquiry, and the student remains responsible for an outstanding balance in accordance with the terms of her enrollment agreement. The student is, however, certainly welcome to contact our Student Services department at her convenience to discuss options in that regard. We will do our best to resolve the situation under the best possible terms. I would also invite the student to consider completing her programs. We are proud to provide high-quality distance education programs and we remain, of course, willing to provide the materials and services required for successful completion.

She did receive study material and successfully completed four assignments prior to her cancellation request of May 27, 2015. Students may certainly choose to discontinue their studies at any time over the course of their enrollment with SCI by informing the school of an intention to do so. Some charges may apply depending on the duration of enrollment, the specific stage of course completion at the time of withdrawal, and the tuition account status. Cancellation policies and procedures are described in detail in our Tuition Contract and Service Guarantee, to which terms the student has agreed during her online enrollment process. The student has not evidently chosen to contact the school at any point previously regarding any of the concerns about course content or quality that are presently expressed, nor did she choose to respond to any of the correspondence sent to her by the school subsequent to her cancellation regarding her tuition account. When the student did advise the school of her decision to cancel, that request was immediately processed and as a result the student was charged a portion of her tuition in keeping with her enrollment agreement. The school is certainly justified in expecting payment of the outstanding balance, and the student is welcome to contact our Student Services department at her convenience to arrange a suitable payment arrangement.

[redacted] No she would not be responsible. I am the one who signed her up. I am the one paying, and I am on disability. Your so called diploma isn't worth the paper it's printed on. I am the one who submitted her exams for her. In case you forgot she is incarcerated and has no access to computers. As far as payments go, I put a permanent stop payment through on the 31st of last month. Your excuses have dried up. As stated in my last reply I am her husband. I submitted a copy of our marriage certificate as proof, and according to state and federal laws I have the right and ability to move forward with this complaint.

The student clearly had signed, prior to enrollment, his agreement with the cancellation policy and procedure in place when he proactively requested enrollment, materials, and services from our school. The student did choose subsequently to cancel his enrollment with our school. However, his request was received beyond the expiry of the initial grace period, and the student was charged appropriately an administrative fee in keeping with the contract he had signed. The school is justified and reasonable in expecting payment of the outstanding balance.

Again I was never told that this was a noncredit high school diploma I would've never signed up knowing that I would not have the opportunity to further my education to go to college. When I contacted the school and spoke to a guy named [redacted] was very nasty and called me a liar. I'm trying to better my life with an education that I did not do when I was younger doing to the fact I had children at a young age. Please help me with this all means I would've never done this knowing I could not go to college thank you

The student is, of course, welcome to continue with and complete her present course of study, and the school would quite reasonably expect the student to abide by the terms of her present enrollment agreement. Should the student wish to consider any additional course of study, she is welcome to contact our Admissions department at her convenience. Any new program would, of course, involve its own terms and conditions as defined in the specific tuition agreement.
