When I called in prior to starting the course the representative said that they were a higher learning education and made statements as if they were accredited by the US department of educationThe way they work around the words "higher learning" and how the course does not replace any license or certification but they do make it seem that they are accreditedIf you see on my account after people started telling me that my school was a scam and wasn't accredited I immediately stopped paying on the courseI want my money back all of of it

In this case, the student enrolled in our High School program on October 14, 2014, and she subsequently received nine study modules, completing a total of twenty-eight lessons and corresponding exams up to and including October 16, Students may certainly choose to discontinue their studies at any time over the course of their enrollment with SCI by informing the school of an intention to do soSome charges may apply depending on the duration of enrollment and the specific stage of course completion at the time of withdrawalCancellation policies and procedures are described in detail in our Tuition Contract and Service Guarantee, to which the student has signed her agreement. There is no indication in this student record of any attempt on the student's part to cancel her program in an effective and timely mannerThe student did file a complaint through your office involving this program on May 5, and was, at that time, offered the reasonable option to withdraw without additional obligation upon payment of $41.94, in keeping with her enrollment agreementThe student chose instead to continue with her course work, receiving more study material and submitting a further seven exams after that date, most recently on October 16, The student then seems simply to have discontinued payment toward her tuition after May 10, She did not advise the school as to her intentions, nor did she respond to any of our correspondence until she called the school on October 25, 2016, well after her tuition account had lapsed into arrearsAt that time, the program was canceled at the student's request, and she has been billed in accordance with her signed agreementI have, however, waived the remaining balance on this account and the file is now closed without any additional obligation on the student's part

Our records do indicate that all three of your courses were completely reactivated and all services have been resumedThe reason for the established policy is quite simple, given the reality that payments may be returned, not necessarily immediately, by financial institutionsA 30-day holding period prior to providing additional services can hardly be considered unreasonable where three distinct accounts have been in arrears for an extended period of time, in this case up to ten months without payment

We strive to provide high-quality distance education programsI would maintain that the education provided through this course of study may very well assist both employment prospects and effectiveness, and it should remain a positive supplement to any other training or educational path a student may wish to followBeyond the academic achievement involved, any education a student receives is likely to provide a competitive advantage and increased effectiveness and opportunity, even where additional training or requirements may be mandated or desirable

Although the relevance of these mailings addressed to a different individual remains less than clear to me, we have taken steps to help prevent additional mail to the address in questionAt the same time, the student account pertaining to the present complaint has been closed as a gesture of goodwill and the residual balance was waived as of June 19, A statement of confirmation in that respect was mailed to the address of record on the same day, and I expect it will be received shortly

This response is not entirely clear to me, and some clarification may be helpfulOur records would seem to indicate a total of four monthly payments received toward this tuition account, all from the same source, all of which are apparently in dispute, for the period including November and extending through February No additional payments are evident for this accountThe school has not received any payment for this account by any other means during that period of timeWithout those four payments on record, the account would be four months in arrearsI would certainly, in any event, welcome the opportunity to address any additional questions or concerns

intellectual interests. Our goal is to accommodate adult individuals through flexible, convenient, and affordable educational programs. Indeed, our school has provided educational services to well over one million students during the past twenty years, and our surveys have indicated a high rate of satisfaction amongst our graduate respondents. Please note, however, that SCI does not currently claim any academic accreditation nor has the school ever done so.Students may certainly choose to discontinue their studies at any time over the course of their enrollment with SCI. Upon enrollment, students are provided with an initial grace period, during which time they have the option of canceling their studies without obligation by informing the school of an intention to do so. In cases where a cancellation request is received after the expiry of the standard withdrawal period and/or where some portion of the program has been completed, charges do apply for materials and services provided up to the time of the cancellation. Cancellation policies and procedures are described in detail in our Tuition Contract and Service Guarantee, which is issued to our students. In this case, the student enrolled on May 12, 2014 in our Legal Assistant/Paralegal program. The student subsequently requested that her course be discontinued on November 25, 2014, at which time half of the study material involved had already been supplied to the student. She completed several lessons and exams over the period of her enrollment. As a result, the student was immediately billed a portion of the tuition calculated in accordance with the tuition contract to which she had agreed. After that point, the student did not evidently respond to the several notifications and invoices mailed to the address she had provided, and no additional payment was ever forthcoming. The account, then, was ultimately forwarded to an outside agency for financial collection. It is unfortunate if the student did not receive any of the correspondence mailed to her in that regard, but the mailing address of record was provided by the student at enrollment and no adjustment was ever supplied by the student. The school is certainly justified in expecting payment of the outstanding account balance. The student is, however, certainly welcome to contact our Student Services department at her convenience to discuss her account. We will do our best to address any concerns she may have. I would also invite the student to consider completing her program. We are proud to provide high-quality distance education programs and we remain, of course, willing to provide the materials and services required for the successful completion of the course.  With respect to the enrollment of the student's brother in a separate study program, that file does indeed indicate, as the present complaint suggests, that a partial refund was issued following the student's decision to discontinue his own course. The refund was issued, in that case, because the student had not completed any significant proportion of his course, and he was entitled to such refund under the terms of his enrollment agreement.

accommodate adult individuals through flexible, convenient, and affordable educational programs. In this case, the student was enrolled in our Florist/Floral Design course on January 26, 2012, and she did successfully complete three assignments as of February 24, 2012. Students may certainly choose to discontinue their studies at any time over the course of their enrollment with SCI by informing the school of an intention to do so. Some charges may apply depending on the duration of enrollment, the specific stage of course completion at the time of withdrawal, and the tuition account status. Cancellation policies and procedures are described in detail in our Tuition Contract and Service Guarantee, to which terms the student has agreed during her online enrollment process. The concerns expressed in the present complaint are not entirely clear to me, and some of the commentary provided appears to be neither reflective nor balanced. There is no indication in this student record of any attempt on the student's part to cancel her program in an effective and timely manner. She did not advise the school as to her intention at any point during her actual enrollment. She did not raise any issues about the program's content or quality during that time, nor did she respond to any of the correspondence sent to her, including both letters of concern and monthly invoices, for an extended period of time. Rather, she seems simply to have discontinued payment after May 5, 2013. The student first contacted the school, by telephone, to express a desire to discontinue on November 2, 2016, a number of years after her tuition account had lapsed into arrears. The student has, in fact, been billed in accordance with her agreement. I have, however, waived the remaining balance on this account, and the file is now closed without any additional obligation on the student's part.

accommodate adult individuals through flexible, convenient, and affordable educational programs. Please be aware that our school does maintain a Student Services department which is readily available and does provide a variety of administrative and educational services on a regular basis. Students are welcome to contact us using the information provided for that purpose on our website and in the general Student Handbook which all students receive at the beginning of their specific course of study. As outside moderators do not have any access to student records, any individual seeking to discuss the specifics of a student file would appropriately be referred to the school for further assistance. It is also important to note that guidelines for the use of social media pages are generally posted in a clear and public manner. It is highly unlikely that 'valid' questions should pose any problem, but of course where the stated guidelines are clearly violated, it is quite possible that restrictions may apply.    There is no indication in this particular student record of any attempt on the student's part to contact our school to raise any concerns regarding the quality or content of the study material she received, or to request withdrawal from her program. Instead, the student has chosen to complete a significant portion of her course. The student is, however, certainly welcome to contact our Student Services department at her convenience to discuss her account. I would also invite the student to consider completing her program. We are proud to provide high-quality distance education programs and we remain, of course, willing to provide the materials and services required for the successful completion of the course.

Your student record does not indicate that you have previously brought any concerns about the program to our attention. We are certainly available to answer any questions you may have about the nature of your course or about your student file, and we would naturally do so as clearly and as...

accurately as possible. In general, the sooner we are aware of any issues a student may have, the more options we are able to offer. It is certainly unfortunate that the course has not apparently met with your present expectations or assumptions. However, our school does not make claims that are inconsistent with the nature of the programs we provide. In this case, your course of study, related services, and completion documents have all been supplied in accordance with your enrollment agreement, and you have paid your tuition of $589.00 in keeping with that agreement. You have successfully completed and graduated from the program on November 15, 2010. While the program is generally intended for employment purposes, the school cannot guarantee employment as a result of completion. Employment prospects will, of course, depend on local demand and requirements, applicant quality, and many other factors. We have certainly never issued any claim that the program would meet specific requirements associated with any particular employment position or opportunity. The school does not claim any academic accreditation, nor have we ever done so. We certainly do believe that the course offers real benefits to the majority of our students, and our surveys have indicated a very high rate of satisfaction amongst our graduates. We strive to provide high-quality distance education programs and those programs are accurately described. I would suggest that the education provided through your course may well assist both employment prospects and effectiveness, and should remain a positive supplement to any other training or educational path you may wish to follow. Beyond the academic achievement involved, any education a student receives is likely to provide a competitive advantage and increased effectiveness and opportunity, even where additional training or requirements may be mandated or desired.

We strive to provide high-quality distance education programs and to describe our courses accurately. Various qualifying statements are certainly provided as appropriate in our course brochures, in our enrollment agreement, and on our websites, which I would invite you to review at your convenience. The High School course offered by SCI is a general studies program designed to provide students with a sound knowledge of several key subject areas and to help them function more effectively, especially in the employment market. The program is not, however, intended to substitute for state-sponsored diploma or equivalency programs. Particular schools and employers may not recognize completion of the program as high school equivalency. Our school does not currently claim any academic accreditation, nor have we ever done so. While the program is generally intended for employment purposes, the school cannot guarantee employment as a result of completion, a limitation of promise that is explicitly stated in our Tuition Contract and Service Guarantee, which the student has signed. As a general rule, a job search may involve some disappointments along the way and can involve numerous applications and interviews prior to success. We have certainly never issued any claim that the program would meet specific requirements associated with any particular employment position or opportunity. At the same time, I would suggest that the opinion or decision of any single potential employer is not necessarily conclusive or even representative of others. Employment prospects will, of course, depend on local demand and requirements, applicant quality, and many other factors, including the variable abilities of potential employers to make reasoned, unbiased, and well-informed decisions. In any event, the student is welcome to contact our Student Services department at her convenience should she have any additional questions or concerns. We remain, of course, pleased to accommodate the student should reference letters or transcripts be required to assist in any future endeavors she may choose to undertake.

While it is certainly unfortunate that the course has not apparently met with the student's present expectations or assumptions, our school does not make claims that are inconsistent with the nature of the programs we provide. In this case, the student's course of study, related services, and completion documents have all been supplied in accordance with the student's enrollment agreement, and the student has paid her tuition in keeping with that agreement. The student has successfully completed and graduated from the program. SCI provides high-quality distance education programs and we remain committed to maintaining a reasonable level of support for students and graduates in their efforts to reach their own career objectives. I would maintain that the education provided through this course of study may very well assist both employment prospects and effectiveness, and it should remain a positive supplement to any other training or educational path the student may wish to follow. Beyond the academic achievement involved, any education a student receives is likely to provide a competitive advantage and increased effectiveness and opportunity, even where additional training or requirements may be mandated. We would certainly be pleased to accommodate the student should reference letters or transcripts be required to assist in any future endeavors she may choose to undertake.
