This was my second project with Woods Basement Systems. I thought enough of their work to engage them again for another project. The crew was punctual, worked inconspicuously, did a great job and cleaned up very well. The crew leader, ***, was very courteous and thorough in all his communication with me, and was genuinely interested in doing a great job.
I would highly recommend them.

Woods Basement Systems Response • Jan 17, 2019

Woods Basement Systems Response • Oct 26, 2018

We think he's great too! Thank you so much for letting us know and of course we will let him hear about your review.

I had Woods Basement System fix our water problem in the basement. I could not have asked for better men to complete the job. Mr. *** and coworker Selassie did an efficient, neat, professional job. They were here when they said they would be and kept me informed throughout the process. I would highly recommend them for your basement needs.

#1 event - 15 hand quilted quilts valued at $1000 each and new flat screen tv (in box), new portable air compressor, etc. ( I can furnish a complete list, valued at approx. $19,570.00)
2nd Event: North basement wall of residence fell in during an unexpected heavy rain event (Nationwide says that my policy does not cover such event).
#3 Event: Now I'm trying to have my basement wall repaired by Woods Basement Systems who uses subcontractor.

Woods Basement Systems Response • Oct 10, 2018

Hello,

We need help understanding what this request is for, from us at Woods, because we have rebuilt that broken wall that fell into the basement. As the letter attached from initial Revdex.com report, the homeowner states he is living at his son's home and until we had his letter sent VIA the Revdex.com we did not have a second phone number to contact this customer. The only number we had rang at the home we repaired but homeowner is staying at the son's so reaching him is difficult. We did drive by there to reinspect that the wall we repaired is still standing, in place and sound as to the terms of the contract we have with the homeowner. We are always willing to follow up with any customer concerns but we have not been involved with his insurance company or responsible for any lost he incurred prior to Woods doing any work at the home. Please advice us on whatever the next step should be so we may help this homeowner, thank you.

.Tell us why here...

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

There are still multiple issues that Woods has not addressed. Currently there are 2 big dumpsters in the yard that I have asked to be removed multiple times. They have put up the wall, but there are no windows in the wall yet. One of the subcontractors was on the east side of the home and he had no business being over there. He ruined a 3 legged TV tower next to the house. They did not put the membrane on the blocks before backfilling. When they backfilled, the dirt is just packed against the wall. I know a good amount about construction. I had an engineer out and he stated the wall is not straight up and down. They need to take the dirt back out with a mini-excavator. I just want the job done and I want it done right. There is no communication between the workers. No one is on the same page. I left a message for them yesterday. I just want the job finished and all the steps taken. I want the membrane on the blocks so there is no further leaking.

Sincerely

For your records, please find enclosed copies of two letters I have written to *** Woods Basement Systems, Inc. The first is dated August 24, 2018; in it I ask for time to increase my knowledge concerning 66 cracks in the floor of our basement; the second letter dated September 8, 2018, supplies *** Woods Basement Systems, Inc. with the information I gathered. The letters comprehensively trace my distress about the failure of *** Woods Basement Systems, Inc.'s water proofing work in our basement at ***. They have been trying to push me into accepting a third installation using the same methods. That is "Batch Mixing" with Quikrete, which does not meet code, according to Supervisor of Buildings and Neighborhood Services ***. *** and Inspector *** did a site visit to confirm the probable failure in the cement. That office is offering support to push *** Woods Basement Systems, Inc. to conform to standard. According to Building and Neighborhood Services Supervisor *** and City Inspector ***, *** Woods Basement Systems, Inc.'s installation methods are not only failing but are against City of *** Buildings and Services Code. With the two letters to *** Woods Basement Systems, Inc. my husband and I hope for a problem-solving solution, rather than litigation; however, if *** Woods Basement Systems, Inc chooses to be recalcitrant in addressing the wet floor in our basement we would be forced to petition push for relief.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

First, I received no letter from Woods Basement Systems, Inc. in August.

I have asked politely and repeatedly for specific answers to my questions about a Plan of Action to correct the wet basement problem. I have prepared and will mail today a third request for resolution (answers) to my difficulty in obtaining a permanent repair for the Woods Basement Systems, Inc. installation. Three credentialed experts have recommended a pump truck with an elephant trunk to install a Limestone Chip Mix cement. There are now 69 cracks in the floor of the installation. The problem is Batch Mixing with a Sand-based "ready mix" cement product, which fails to meet city code requirement. I have requested repeatedly to have a cement product that has structural integrity to prevent a forth basement failure because I wish to sell this house and must avoid future a possible lawsuit from the buyer after the sale of this house. The cement installation must meet code requirements and to be certain that I do not have to suffer a financially significant loss of the property value due to a any "As Is" declaration when the house is listed on the Real Estate Market. I have asked to communicate in written form to ensure that both parties are clear and in agreement. I do not wish to have a face to face meeting with their representative until the pertinent points are formally addressed.

Sincerely

Dear Revdex.com,

I have attached files with pictures of my letters to Woods Basement Systems, Inc.’s that establish a timeline concerning the wet basement issues that date back to March of 2017. I have also attached a grouping of Facebook Posts I have gathered. I regret that I did not seek information on Facebook before my husband, *** and I entered a contract with Woods Basement Systems, Inc. The Facebook Posts document a history of poor workmanship, low-quality materials, and poor business ethics.

The text of the most recent letter from Nov. 13, 2018 again states that three credentialed Civil Engineers have inspected the basement at our home. Each of the Civil Engineers has unequivocally sited that the failure of the waterproofing systems stems from cheap cement. I asked Whitehead Concrete Pumping to visit our home to view the now 71 cracks in the cement. *** of Whitehead Concrete Pumping concurs with the opinion of the three civil engineers. The problem is that Woods Basement Systems, Inc. is “batch mixing” a bagged, sand-based product that is not strong enough to be structurally sound. Each of the four experts agree that a Limestone Chip Mix delivered via a Pump Truck with and Elephant Trunk has the structural integrity to meet the requirements of this application within a home.

Woods Basement Systems, Inc. will not commit to use the correct cement. It is specious that their Director of Operations *** has not responded in writing to our request for a cement product that is consistent and reliable. The cheap cement costs less than $5 per bag. The estimate from Whitehead Cement Pumping is: Total = $1,091.00. The truth of the matter is that the low-quality cement product is more than 200 percent cheaper than Limestone Chip Mix. I suspect that Mr. will attempt to discredit our claims by finding or inventing a problem in our home that will void their contractual obligation to provide a dry basement. The unethical business behavior of Woods Basement Systems. Inc. is well evidence in the Facebook Posts.

I have come to understand how Woods Basement Systems, Inc. evades reasonable questions by using vague language that satisfies the Revdex.com while, at the same time, does not answer questions to our repeated requests for sound cement. The bagged cement application continues to crack and the cracks are widening. One photograph shows a ruled measurement of one of the cracks that leaks water. Scant or normal rainfall is in concurrence with the presence of water on the floor. The cracks permit rainfall to seep upwards through the cracks and run across the floor to empty through the basement floor effluent drain. I have documented the product failure accurately with photographic evidence and I have insisted that all communications be in writing. I have stipulated A Letter of Agreement be in place before Woods Basement Systems, Inc. jackhammers their crumbling cement perimeter once again. In my proposed Letter of Agreement it will be imperative for Woods Basement Systems, Inc. to contract a Limestone Chip Mix product with Whitehead Concrete Pumping, which is nearby and trustworthy.

Each letter we sent to Woods Basement Systems, Inc. reiterates our concern and asks for confirmation that the correct cement will be used for this, the third attempt. Each letter has either been ignored or answered with an ambiguous reply, such as “I don’t see any of the points listed in your SPECIFICATIONS section that seem out of line, however… .” yet Woods Basement Systems, Inc. will not commit to any specifics (see attachment *** Response). Not only do the Civil Engineers we consulted agree about the Limestone Chip Mix, but it is REQUIRED by the Carbondale Building and Neighborhood Code Supervisor, *** and *** City Inspector, ***. *** telephone number is ***

What is needed is to either have Woods Basements Systems, Inc. again repair our basement perimeter with the correct cement or return our money. As noted several times, we hope to sell our home and retire in the of spring 2019. We are trapped in a house with a basement perimeter with 70+ cracks at last count, a basement which would certainly frighten off any prospective buyer. At this point we will seek mediation as stipulated in our contract with Woods Basement System’s, Inc. Each letter to Woods Basement Systems, Inc. seeks resolution rather than litigation. Litigation is costly and will force us to remain in Carbondale for the duration of the ordeal. It is catastrophic to know that our retirement funds are abused while our property value drops like a stone due to this firm’s reluctance to honor their contractual commitment to provide a dry basement.

I thank you in advance for the kind attention to our concerns.

Sincerely

I am very pleased with my new crawl space. The crew was prompt and professional, and the foreman kept me informed of their progress at each step in the process. The finished product looks very nice and is performing as advertised.

Woods Basement Systems Response • Sep 28, 2018

We appreciate knowing that the foreman kept you informed as the installation was occurring and that you liked the finished product. We will pass this review along to the whole team, thank you.

My husband and I just had a sump pump placed in our basement and the work is amazing. *** and his team were in and out faster than we were told and still pulled off a great job. I would highly recommend him. Thanks for all your work.

Woods Basement Systems Response • Sep 28, 2018

Thank you for this wonderful review and we appreciate that you chose us for this work.

Very professional @ thorough.
Cleaned up the mess.

Woods Basement Systems Response • Sep 28, 2018

Thank you for taking the time to share this review and thank you for your business.

my experience with Woods Basement System was somewhat disappointing in the sense that there was a considerable lack of communication between the salesman and the office. although it was all corrected in the end it was a frustrating waste of my time to get the issues resolved.
as far as installation goes *** rates a perfect 10. He is professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and completed the job in both the time and the manner he said he would.because of his expertise, he made a few suggestions regarding small nuances that were specific to my job. they turned out to be great. I am pleased that he is coming back to install the windows that are being replaced. I know I can count on Juan for an A+ job,
Jeremy, the manager has also been very helpful in resolving the communication problems.

Thanks for sharing about the perfect 10 for *** and his crew for the work they performed. We are sorry that the beginning was not as strong as the finish.

An amazing job by Woods. This is the second home I've had done and have been completely satisfied both times. This was a correction from a recently completed job on a house I'm buying. The correction was done ahead of schedule. Thanks

Woods Basement Systems Response • Sep 04, 2018

We thank you for choosing us again and for sharing this great review.

We are happy with the results of having our crawl space redone. Woods sealed the space with insulation on the walls and a heavy, durable but flexible material called "Clean Space" on the floor and installed a sump pump and a dehumidifier in the crawlspace. This created a space that we can now use for storage because it is clean, dry and much easier to get around in, and is now sealed from the outside,The crew were good and efficient and the foreman, ***, was a pleasure to work with. They completed a lot of work in a very cramped space. I have not yet seen a difference in our utility bill, but will have a better idea about that this winter. We are looking forward to creating more space inside our home because we now have a storage space under our home.
Overall we are very satisfied with the work thus far.

Woods Basement Systems Response • Sep 04, 2018

Thank you for sharing this review. We appreciate your business and look forward to hearing about the lower power bills this winter.

Took a while to get all done but we’ll worth it

If you are experiencing moisture issues, definitely start a discussion with this company. They have several products designed to alleviate "moist/wet" basements. As a homeowner of a house more than 100 years old, our basement is designed with an interior ledge ranging from 2 1/2 to 5 feet in depth. (Lots of built-in counter space!) The "Clean Space" product lightened up the basement at the same time directing any seepage from our "weeping" walls into the "WaterGuard" subfloor drainage system as advertised.

In addition to the above, we had the double-pump sump system installed along with the sill plate insulation. We hope to get their ceiling and flooring systems in the future.

Our area has had extra rains this growing season, and this system has performed exactly as they said it would. It kept the rain outside.

Our dehumidifier rarely runs now, versus running almost nonstop before the install. Even after just two months, which have included several summer storms, the air quality is such that we are moving our home office to the basement to free up a guest bedroom.

The work crews were a joy to work with. They were courteous, mannerly, respectful, knowledgeable, focused, thorough and hard working. They made it a priority to make sure that as the consumer, our needs were met to the highest degree.....even highlighting areas and issues we hadn't thought of or experienced. And we asked LOTS of questions! We were very impressed with their standard of professionalism.

We have had tens of thousands of dollars in maintenance and remodeling performed thru the past 30 years and hired over 20 different firms for this old house and its barns. Woods Basement Systems, Inc. has, in our opinion, outperformed in several areas, including but not limited to integrity and workmanship. Their letterhead has the slogan: "All things basementy", and they mean EVERYthing you could or should associate with a dry basement. Our homes market value and comfort level has been greatly increased/improved.

As a couple, we are not naive enough to think that we perfect nor are any of the contractors we have hired....we are, after all, human beings, and human beings are inherently imperfect. We don't, and neither should any other homeowner, expect any project to succeed without "a hiccup and a hitch" here and there. The issues we encountered were dealt with to our complete satisfaction and we sincerely want to thank all those involved who helped to: make our house into what we all dream of....a place to call "home....a place of refuge from the rain."

Woods Basement Systems Response • Aug 29, 2018

Wow, Thank You So Much for this complete review. Also, thank you saying that on this project there was a hiccup BUT that we took care of that for you. We always start with the "perfect" end in mind and we appreciated how that was handled so the ending could be as perfect as possible.

Woods installed an encapsulation system including drainage, a sump pump and a dehumidifier in the crawlspace of our 100 year old Victorian house. What impressed me the most were the Woods employees. The job was extremely difficult yet the men worked with a tremendous 'can do' attitude and rarely stopped to take a break. The second crew who came to do some warranty repairs shared the same work ethic. Both crews explained what they were doing and what I should expect once the job was completed. I was highly confident in their abilities and we are already enjoying the results of their efforts. The house no longer smells musty!

Woods Basement Systems Response • Aug 29, 2018

Our encapsulation system will control those smells from now on and make your home much more comfortable all year long. Plus you will see a dip in those utility bills too. Thanks for sharing and we are always pleased to hear that we could help with service concerns after the installation too.

The system is amazing! It has saved us from flooding down there several times in the last 2 years. They are diligent about coming back to check and clean the system every year and very thorough with the maintenance.

Woods Basement Systems Response • Aug 29, 2018

It's great having a dry basement and thanks for sharing. We will pass this along to the team. Thank your for choosing Woods Basement Systems.

and his crew were phenomenal. They arrived on time, finished the job when they said they would. They were courteous and took care in trying to keep the inside of our house clean, even though they worked outside and were covered in mud due to an earlier rain. Our estimator, Barry, was prompt with the estimate and really worked with us in getting the financing we needed to have our foundation repaired.
Everyone really worked with us to get this, badly needed, repair done on our home. From the people in the office calling to try to work with both their and our schedule to make this happen, to the guys coming out to actually do the work.
Top notch organization. Would highly recommend them to anyone needing their services, and I already have.

Woods Basement Systems Response • Aug 28, 2018

Thank you so much for sharing this and we will let the whole team know how happy you are. Thanks for choosing our team and we appreciate your business.

Very pleasurable & professional

Woods Basement Systems Response • Aug 27, 2018

Thanks for sharing with us about the experience and we appreciate your business.

On 8/17/18 I recently checked out the Woods Basement web sight as my home needs some foundation repair. I watched a testimonial video from a couple from St. Louis praising the fact that Woods did not have a Depth Clause in their foundation peering contracts so that the customer would have a solid capped price for a job estimate. That sounded like a plus to me.
When the rep came to my home, he said that there is a depth clause of 30 feet and any additional beyond that was $14/foot.
I showed the Woods rep the video on 8/17/18. He contacted his superiors including the owner. As of this writing, they refuse to honor that claim.
Sounds like bait and switch/false advertising to me. Makes me wonder what else they promote and then re-neg on. Be careful with these folks.
This has nothing at all to do with their rep. He has been nothing short of excellent.
Company execs need to look at this from a consumers point of view. If you advertise something, honor the claim. If it is an oversight by your PR department, honor the claim and pass the cost on to them as a lesson to do their job more thoroughly. Punish them, not the consumer. Your company would be more respected. One pissed off customer can cost you a lot of potential business. Word of mouth travels.
Don't advertise something if you are not going to honor it!
If the advertising is an error, honor it.......remove it.......make those responsible for it pay!

Woods Basement Systems Response • Aug 27, 2018

We are sorry for this misunderstanding. That video testimonial was off our site and we were unaware that it was back up. It is off the site now. It was never our intention to misrepresent what we offer or how we charge for our services. We agree with you that the representative working with you on your project is great and we hope you are accepting of our apology.
