American Veterans Aid Reviews (114)

I have been my Dad's primary caregiver for the past 10 years. Last year I reached out to my siblings expressing that it was time for me to get help with his care. I work full time and having my own health issues it was time I raised the white flag and surrender. I went online and started to look. I was overwhelmed with emotion. I felt guilty, I felt like no one could do this better then me, how will my father feel about this and mostly felt like I had failed him as well as my family. One day I received an email from one of my brothers with a series of links online he had found. That evening when I was scrolling I came across American Veterans Aid. I could not believe what I was reading, can this be true. Aid for my dads care as well as my mom when needed. Too good to be true. You see my father worked shift work for Exxon, raised six children with my mom who also worked at home tirelessly. We live comfortably but by no means rich and or have great savings. What we have is a good education provided by my parents, and great family values also taught to us by our parents by example. Being an avid 60 Minutes watcher along with my Pop I wondered how did we miss this piece on tv. I cannot tell you how awesome the people are at the American Veterans Aid. From day one obtaining all the information about their service and this aid available to veterans since the '1960's to the final submission of our parents application each and every person was was a pro in the task their job performed. I cannot express how fortunate I was to come across this service as well as the aid received. My Dad will be 91 in October and now has a wonderful caretaker. His life has changed for the better having companionship as well as the home care he requires on a daily basis. My life has changed. I go to work knowing he is in good hands. I'm his friend again. The latter may sound odd but if I did not read so much on caregivers I would never have known how much we all have in common. It's ok to ask for help. And the best part ( because ultimately it comes down to what we can afford) there is aid out there for our hard working parents who defended our country selflessly during wartime. American Veterans Aid is the best option in getting the education and help going through the process of obtaining this VA benefit.

Very helpful!

I found the AVA to be very helpful in applying for VA benefits for my father.
We worked very closely for months on the application and they advised me as to when would be the most opportune time for submitting application.
Most everyone was very professional to work with however, I did have one representative I had difficulty reaching at times.
Overall I would recommend this service.

I had occasion to use AVA services this past spring. After moving my elderly parents into an assisted living closer to my home, I had contacted the local Veterans Association office regarding their Aid and Assistance Program. I was flat-out told to "forget it" because my parents had too much in assets ($15000 plus a paid up condo). At the urging of the Assisted Living facility, I contacted the AVA. They were instrumental in assisting me in setting up a trust and making the arrangements to file the claim accurately. They even assisted in locating an attorney who specialized in intra-state trusts. In the mean time, my Father, who was the veteran passed away. The AVA staff handled the new situation compassionately and stood by be in assisting to secure surviving spouse benefits for my 91 year old Mother. The entire AVA staff operated very professionally. I could not be happier with their services.

I hired AVA to help get my grandfather, a WW2 Vet, additional income to help with his nursing home expenses. After my grandmother passed, his income was greatly reduced and expenses grew. The team at AVA was very kind and sensitive to our issues. They were also very gracious about my grandfather's years of service, even though they were so long ago. What I liked most was that they were on top of getting all the forms together. They really made it clear what they needed and from whom. They had weekly meetings EVERY week with me, to check the status reports. I had a troublesome visiting physician and nursing home staff who would not complete documents, but the staff at AVA kept calling and reminding them to complete these forms. Even though the weekly meetings were difficult with my busy work schedule, they were important to not let things stagnate or get left behind. I really appreciate that. They were also very upfront about the cost. I've seen other reviews, and honestly, I think those people don't understand the amount of work involved in getting this done, and getting this done CORRECTLY the first time around. It was a steep price to pay, but the level of service, and the outcome made it worth it. The level of service alone made it worth it, but I'm glad it worked out so very well. In few months my grandfather was granted enough money to move to a better nursing home, and get a private room that he could afford. He's comfortable and happy and that's all we can ask for. We owe it to the AVA.

Thank all of you (Devin S, Mari F, Judith H) and everyone else who was helpful in making this be a success for my mother getting her benefits. Everyone work well and made things go smooth and easy. No stress on my part. They quoted how long the process will take. I contacted American Veterans Aid in February 2016, completed the application and mailed it in to the Department of Veterans Affairs for April 2016 and my mother received her first check on July 2016. Everything was done less than six months. In order for this to work you have to gather all the information they will need. The sooner you get the information in the better your chance of getting your benefits.

Wonderful organization very professional, communication is exceptional every step of the way done in a very efficient manner. In my case my parent kept all records which expedited the process they will guide you as to which documents you need to obtain. weekly scheduled calls at your selected time and emails. Finding this company was a Godsend as assisted living is expensive every little bit helps.

When faced with completing the application process for the Aid in Attendance Benefit for my dad I was overwhelmed and totally confused by paperwork needing to be collected and forms completion. I contacted American Veterans Aid and was assigned a case worker who explained which documents needed to be obtained and how to complete the forms for each step. With the personal attention, counselling, and assistance provided I was able to correctly complete and submit the VA packet in a few weeks. I began the process at the end of February and my dad received his first check in mid May. Thank you AVA!

They were a pleasure to deal with. Very professional and efficient. I don't think I would have succeeded without them.

Several years ago (4 I think), this wonderful company assisted my Dad with applying for his benefits with the VA. I don't think we could have ever done all the paperwork required in a timely manner without them. Dad enjoyed his last few years more independly thanks to the efforts of American Veterans Aid. The staff was forever helpful and patient and precise in their involvement with us.
Thank goodness for them.

I found AVA very positive and helpful until they processed my payment. The paperwork they sent me was 3rd generation photocopy, calls go unanswered, incorrect or vague information. In the end after much back and forth over a years time I received confirmation that the VA was processing my mothers claim. Several more months passed, my mom became very ill and passed away. 2 weeks later her first VA deposit came, but of course the VA was made aware of my Moms passing (I believe that Social Security must share the information) and requested immediate return of the deposit. Same as SS, any payment from the government that is made the month the individual dies, must be returned. I accept that, but had AVA not dragged their feet and been more responsive, my mother could have collected from the VA for a few months, at least enough to cover the money wasted on using AVA. My advice, complete the forms yourself, they are relatively straight forward.

As a WW II Vet, my father applied to the American Veterans Aid for assistance in getting financial support. The AVA walked my Father and with me through the lengthy and at times complicated application process, guided us through the numerous sections, and assisted us with all our questions. The AVA was efficient, helpful, and wonderful to work with.
