This company quoted $80 on the phone to send a repairman to look into a problem with my Dryer. They said after he looked into the problem, he will quote me labour cost to fix the issue. If I agree to the labour cost they waive the $80 and you pay for the repair only. I agreed to these terms. He walked through the door, turned on the dryer and said it would cost $295 + tax to fix the dryer. I agreed to this under the assumption that he could fix the broken dryer for this amount. He opened up the back of the dryer, talked on the phone for a while, pulled out some broken pieces and said the dryer can't be fixed and I needed a "blower fan" that would cost me approx. $3-$400. The parts dept. was closed when he was here and said he would have someone call me first thing in the morning with another quote on the part and charged me $295 + tax for absolutely nothing. I called the company in the morning who transferred me around and wouldn't give me any information on my service. I asked a manager to call me. When she did I explained how they are deceiving in the fact that it is $80 for a diagnostic. It is a minimum $295 for anything. He quoted me this before even looking at the machine. I was expecting to pay $80 for a technician. She would not hear me out and offered me a $45 discount on the new part. They still did not have information for me on the part or when it could be fixed. I called around and all competing repair services charge approx. $50-$100 to do what he "didn't" do. I was expecting to pay $80, which would have been reasonable. I called the company another 4 times that day for part information and they continued to tell me someone would call me back with this information by 5pm. No one did. I chased them down the following day again until someone quoted me $420 for the part but refused to tell the part number. I asked repeatedly to tell me the part number and they told me they don't give out that information. They ended the call and have not followed up since (4 days later) about further repair. My father in law has looked into it since, and purchased the part for $28. They wanted to charge me a total of $715 + tax for a $28 fix. The dryer brand new is only $900. I was alone when the repairman came to my condo and I feel he and the company knew they could take advantage of me because I had no idea what I was talking about. This company basically took my $300 and ran, with no regard for customer service or follow up. I feel *** and lied to and have expressed these concerns directly to the company who continually turn it on me. I have called multiple times to speak to someone and no one seems to put me through to anyone who will help. They pretend the service fee is $80 when $80 gets you absolutely nothing so I'm not sure why they even mention $80 in the first place. They want you to believe they are reasonably and competitively priced when in reality it's a total *** and money grab for nothing.

Desired Outcome

I want a full refund of $295 + tax

The company that I am writing about is Appliance Repairman in Concord, Ontario. I needed my *** wall oven repaired as after doing a self cleaning, the unit no longer worked and had overheated. When I called AR, they had indicated that they could come out that same day for $80 and that the $80 would be waived if we proceeded with the labour quote. I understood that the $80 would be deducted from the labour cost which I thought was a bonus. Once the tech arrived he provided a labour quote of $280 - $112 for a Safety Check, $98 for Electric Circuit Check and $70 fo Heating system check. The tech indicated that this was their company's standard protocol to ensure the unit was fully working and/or required any replacement parts. I did provide my sign off assuming that it was just a new thermal part required and the $80 would be deducted from the total. If I had known that it would have cost me $80 for the tech to simply come into my home to provide a quote without even looking at the unit, I would have never done it. Needless to say, he did install a new thermal unit that he charged me $160 on top of the $280 labour charge. The technician was in my house for less than 40 minutes. I helped him pull the wall unit out and put it back in. The tech himself indicated after I complained about the cost that Whirlpool charges a one time labour charge of $129 plus parts. I would have paid half of what this company charged. I complained to the supervisor and she continue to say that I agreed to the charges. She is correct however when the tech told me he had to do 3 difference system checks, I anticipated that there was much more labour involved and time required. I told them it was high way robbery. The first supervisor I spoke to offered me a $30 refund and then her manager said she was not authorized to approve that refund. I also *** the part he replaced and found it on line for $50-60 for the very same part and they charged me over double. Long and short, this company is truly ripping people off on their hard earned money and I would like to make as many consumers aware to stay away. I do not know how it is possible that a company is robbing people of their money and getting away with it as they play on words and forcing people to sign off on a contract once they really have no other choice because they have already lost their initial $80. The invoice number is *** and it was July 30, 2018 paid by ***

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund as I know that big companies such as Whirlpool charge a labour rate of $129 and they charged $280. Also, the pricing of the part itself was not acceptable.

An $80 service call becomes very expensive when a $30/10min rate, and inflated parts prices are added. Their web site states that they offer 24/7 service, but when scheduling an appointment, the best they can offer is a three hour window more than a day later.

I am submitting a complaint to you regarding a company that I feel was over charging me for services not performed on my *** washing machine,
The company is The Appliance Repair Man ***
I contacted the company and they sent a repairman named *** (***) to my residence on Saturday June 30th. He called me At 12:52 p.m.to let me know he would be at my home in 10 minutes. I told him the same thing that I told the receptionist at the company. My *** washer is not working. I put the articles in the machine, pressed the start button , the lid locked but then nothing happened after that. I pressed the button again and it unlocked and I removed the items.
*** told me that it was $80.00 for the service call and then they waive it and I had to pay $280.00 +$36.40 tax=$316.40
I thought it was strange to charge the money before a diagnosis is made.He then went downstairs and after 25 minutes I went to ask how it was going. He said the lock box was broken. I said it was not I watched you try it as well. He came up approximately 2:05 and told me that I needed a new lock box assembly for an additional$415.20. I said the lock was not broken. I said no to him doing anything else and he pressured me into paying and signing. I felt very intimidated. I wrote in the line above my signature "NOT HAPPY". He asked me why I did that .I said because I am not happy. He said that is a legal document ..I said I don't care I don't know what you did for this money, What did you do? He said that he doesn't make the prices the company does. Again I said what did you do my machine is worse than when you started.
He left and I felt ripped off. I went to another company *** thinking I had to buy a new machine. The woman there said she used to work for *** and my machine is on recall. I lived at a different address when I purchased the machine so I was never notified and that it was a *** product. I did not know that.
I went home and called the company and complained. I was told I was put on priority and would get a call from their customer service on the next business day.
They did not call and every time they say they were going to call they didn't

Desired Outcome

I will send you all info as I dealt with Samsung and a company called *** and they were good enough to support me to try to get my money back. Appliance Repair Man offered me $65.00 goodwill, but to date I have not received anything from them.

Our dryer stopped working and I called this company to come and have a look at it. Similar to other people's experiences, we were quoted $80 for a service call. When the technician arrived, 90 min later than promised, I was given a quote for labour of $315 just to take a few screws off and look at a few things. 20 minutes later we were told that it required a new motherboard for additional $665+tax and were forced to pay the $315. I can get a new dryer for that cost. This company is dishonest and not in line with general industry practice. I contacted other appliance repair companies and they all offer a flat fee for diagnostic and if I proceed with the repair that would be waived. I contacted them to complain and all they do is read from a script, about offering me the recording of what they said.

An appointment was made to service my washing machine, by a friend, as I was hospitalized but home on weekends. The friend was told there is an 80$ service charge for the repair person to come. Also that a quote for the necessary repairs would be given, and if I accepted the quote the service charge would be waived. So I signed and paid on the understanding my washing machine would be repaired for the quoted price.
However, at that time I had not been informed that the machine was irreparable. So when I questioned
the fact that no repairs were being made I was told I still had to pay the flat rate of 299.45$.

Aug 8/18 -Appliance Repairman Oakville location. Requested a repair for our microwave. The technician, ***, came the next day at the time promised. I described the symptoms to him who then quoted me $280 for the labour saying this was a flat rate. Although I found this a high price, I was under the impression that the repair would be completed that day. He spent at most 1/2 hour diagnosing the problem and then said he needed to get parts and would call within 48 hours with the price. He did indicate that it would be a fairly pricey part. I did not receive a call. I called back on Aug.13. I was told the part would be over $600. This was for a *** and control assembly as noted on the invoice. When asked for more details about this outrageous price the customer service rep was unable to give them to me and asked me to call back during regular business hours and speak to the parts dept. which I did on Aug. 16. Again I was unable to get details and was told I would have to speak to parts. I had pressed 2 for parts, but apparently they were at lunch. At this time I was told that the price included the parts, shipping, and installation and that 2 technicians would be required to perform the repair. I stated that the technician clearly said to me that I would only have to pay for parts and not for labour again. I was told by the rep that this was not how it worked. I asked for a specific breakdown of the parts and labour costs. The rep could not give that to me (really - is it not in my file on the computer?) and would get back to me shortly. No one called. 3 hours later I phoned and spoke with ***, again in customer service (supervisor) as once again there was no one in parts. I got the exact same story from her. I had signed the contract agreeing to the $280 dollars and that did not cover the installation of the parts once ordered. The contract does state that the labour quote was for the work performed that day and did not cover "future repairs, parts or installation costs". But this was not a FUTURE repair - it was the repair that was needed initially. The company is misrepresenting their services and I was clearly told by - and I confirmed with the technician that I would only be paying the cost of parts. *** was insistent that what I signed said otherwise and did not honour what I was reporting. She offered me a $45 goodwill refund only. I said that I would accept $200 refund. She said that could not be done. The parts quoted were *** and inverter - inverter was not stated on the work order - same as control assembly? The parts themselves came to $376.60. Then another $180 for installation and warranty and an extra $100 for a 2nd technician to come and help take down the microwave. It was already down from the first time and we had done that ourselves. So then she said she would "discount" that and the $45 dollars. I questioned the $280 charge and reported that it seemed to be a standard charge for any appliance and any problem as that is the charge I am seeing on all of the Revdex.com complaints I am reading. *** stated that it was not the case. I asked that the part be installed for the price of the parts only as indicated to me by the technician and told it couldn't be done. I called a reputable repair company in Hamilton because I wanted to determine if this quote was fair and their price is $27.50 for diagnosis then $50 - $27.50 for labour and about $300 for parts. Unbelievable difference. I strongly feel this company is operating in a dishonest manner and has no desire to change their practice. I feel the technician should have known whether it was likely that he would be able to repair it that day from experience and whether he carried most parts on his truck and made it clear that coming back would be an extra charge. He said the opposite. *** was happy to close my file and indicate I did not want the parts. This would have cost more than a new microwave. Cash/debit accepted only

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a refund of the $280 plus tax which comes to 316.40. I am willing to pay the $80 service fee only. I do not trust this company to repair my appliance and will go elsewhere.

I called about service to my 3 year old gas dryer- was quoted 80$ plus 30/10 minutes- I was desparate so I agreed, and then they told me I needed a new mother board AND another part- and quoted an additional 591 plus taxes- I could get a new dryer for that and the original service all which was 226.
not satisfied with the quote I called around - and was told by some REPUTABLE companies that they would need to do a service call (flat fee) But if they fix it then that comes off the cost of the fix- that sounds way more reasonable- Bottom line- this Company is making it tough for the honest ones- kinda like car repairs and legit home based businesses-

I just had my fridge repaired. I think I must be very stupid. The cost to repair it without any parts was 316.00 with tax. The work took about an hour. The repairman asked me to sign a sheet for the cost of labour before he started working. My fridge was not broken just had some glue on the heating coil which was making a smell. I was quoted if It needed a new coil it would cost 270.00 I looked up the cost online with my model # and the coil is 55.00. I was told there would be no labour cost because he had done the labour to clean the glue off.
