Capital City Appliance Service Reviews (%countItem)

We recently needed service on a five year old Whirlpool refrigerator that was cooling but not enough to keep food or ice. We called *** on a Thursday for a warranty claim and they hooked us up with Capital City. We received a call within 10 minutes to not only confirm the appointment but to move it up from a Monday to Friday (awesome). Clayton called the next morning and arrived within the appointment time. He said we would need a new compressor and it would have to be ordered. A week later we were scheduled for the repair and Clayton again called and arrived in the appointment window. He was done in less than an hour and the refrigerator is working great again. Clayton did an outstanding job and was very professional. The office staff was very friendly as well and helped get our appointments set up quickly. We are retired and do have a second refrigerator which made scheduling and getting through the wait much easier than it would be for some. Thanks Capital City.

Great service

Great service

If I could give a zero star rating I would. The absolute worst company I have ever had to deal with. We have a warranty on our oven, so unfortunately we don't have any option on who to choose. This company has been out 3 times to fix it and have not even fixed anything. Their availability is awful. They only come to my area Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays and only between the hours of 8am and 3pm. This means I have had to take off 3 days of work to wait around for them (they don't come within the 3 hours time slot they give you) and now I have to take a fourth day off because they still didn't fix it. My oven will preheat, but then it will drop 35 degrees at least and won't reach the wanted temperature.
1st time they came: said it was a calibration issue and that it should work. I tested it and it still didn't work, but they told me to give it a try. It still wouldn't work and so I had to call again and schedule them to come out. They would order a part and replace it the next time.
2nd time they came out: Tech was supposed to be at my house between 10-1. At 1pm no one had arrived at my house nor called me. I had to call the company and they said he was running late. Tech came to the house 20 minutes after said timeframe, opened the box and the part was broken. Therefore I had to be rescheduled for a different day.
3rd time coming out: Tech was supposed to be at my house between 9-12 and arrives at 12:15. Tech replaces said part. I tested the oven and yet again it was still having the same issue and I said he still needed to fix it. He said that the shop was closed, he didn't have any more parts, and that I should try it to see if it works. After showing him in person that it was still having the same issue, he calls Whirlpool. He said that they told him to ignore the display and just use the oven! How am I supposed to use an oven if I don't know what the temperature is at!? After I told him my frustration, how rude their people were and how difficult they are to deal with, he just laughs.
So here I am, having to schedule a FOURTH appointment. The scheduling department is not flexible, there is no apology or any sort of urgency to fix my said appliance. I have been without an oven for a month and a half. This company is a joke, their techs are obviously incompetent, and they have zero care for their customers. They actually told me to just keep my house unlocked if I didn't want to take a day off of work. Seriously?! Now I am stuck in this awful cluster until my appliance is fixed. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Capital City Appliance Service went out on 3 attempts to try and satisfy this consumer. The unit has no issue. We even replaced the control to try and satisfy her. Her time complaints have no substance. We apologize that we were 15 - 20 minutes late for arrival but she is out of the normal metro area for travel time was extra for this area.
Now for the core issue, the unit: when you pre-heat to a temperature and the unit is ready, she would open the door and the temperature would immediately drop, she would then push the control to try and get the temperature back up to 350 which was not necessary...just keep the door shut. If the door was left open for longer periods of time it could drop 50-75 degrees. She did not understand that it was not necessary to hit the control to reset the control back to the temperature it had dropped to. It confuses the control and causes issues with temperatures. Also how would she know what the real temperature was inside the oven without any industry meter as we use to determine that. All temperatures checked perfect when preheated and when temperatures reached inside oven. The issue was created by her misuse of the control.

Overall, the experience with CCAS was outstanding. From the moment that I first walked into their offices until the technician left after final installation, there was never a glitch in the process. The young lady at the desk was most understanding of my dilemma (and my not-too-well disguised sense of anguish) and was most encouraging relative to the kind of service that was offered.
The technician was similarly considerate and professional -- very direct in his diagnosis, the recommendation of action and the final implementation of the "cure". [This was all in sharp contrast with the reception and assistance provided by other resources that I had contacted before reaching CCAS.]
Finally, I am grateful to the local appliance store who recommended CCAS as THE place to go with my problem. They sure got that right!!!

The company repaired our dishwasher and did a very good job. The technician actually researched the problem and brought the right parts the first time. He was courteous and competent. The appliance now works the way it should.

Capital City came out to my house to do a service call on our washer/dryer combo. The technician, Jerry, was very professional and polite. He called ahead before arriving to our house, ran tests and diagnostics on the unit, and thanked me when he left. He also gave me some tips on any potential issues for the future and how to handle those before needing to call for additional service. Additionally the office staff was courtesy and polite and responded quickly to any of my calls or requests. Great experience all around and I would recommend them!

Consistently great service! Jerry P is curteous, efficient and always seems to have the parts he needs with him.
I wish our KitchenAide refrigerator wouldn’t have as many issues as it’s had, but feel lucky to have Cap City to fix what breaks.

I have NO idea how they have 4 stars here when everywhere else on the internet they are graded at 1 star. After reading some of the reviews here though it looks like Jerry should be running the place and handling all the calls as well. If I could get away with giving them none I would. I have unfortunately had to deal with these people for well over a year now as they are the only service provider for Lowes in my area. To begin with their office staff is horrible. They are not polite or friendly. They schedule the appt whenever and don't take into consideration when it's good for you. They just expect you to make time for them. I didn't realize the company was more important than the customer apparently. They have been out to my home multiple times over the past year and a half. They have done the same thing every time they have come out to fix my freezer and the problem keeps recurring. Instead of trying to actually research and figure out the problem they just keep putting a band-aid on it and replacing the ice maker. Let's figure out why the ice maker keeps breaking (DUH!) They are out here about every 3 months (only because it's under warranty and I have to use them) and if Lowes didn't get a discounted rate for their services they would have officially paid more than 3 times what I paid for the entire refrigerator. This last time they were out Lowes finally said "If this isn't going to permanently fix the problem then call us and deem it unrepairable." It's always the same guy that comes on every call so he came out again and took a look and after asking him if it was going to be a band-aid or not (which we both knew that's all it was going to be) he said "I can't tell the future" and refused to contact Lowes all together to give them a report or close the ticket. I'm guessing he didn't want to have to give them that same lame excuse in case they asked him that same question that he obviously didn't want to answer. He wouldn't even give them any report at all so that Lowes could make the decision that it's "unrepairable" themselves. He was afraid that if he made what the company might call the "wrong call" then he would have to buy me a new refrigerator. Not only have they been a shady and unknowledgeable company, but they are also just doing the bare minimum so they can keep getting paid by their "big box" customer. They are unprofessional and I HIGHLY recommend skipping them or refusing to use them as your servicer because they are not going to fix your issue correctly; only enough so they can keep coming out for more service calls. Thank God I'm under warranty and it's not costing me anything!! I will NEVER use them of my own free will and I recommend anyone steer clear as you're just wasting your money.

They have since come back and rebutted my above complaint and stated a complete lie.

Capital City Appliance Service Response • Oct 26, 2018

Unfortunately we are under constraints that do not allow us to address these accusations appropriately, but that happens when dealing with certain individuals. We do not lie, create false tech reports, miss-inform the manufacturers that have us as a premier service company, and even go so far as "to kick your dog while you're not looking"! All of our calls are documented, date/time stamped and available to the company paying the bill.

Yes people, you would need to decide for yourself; and call your manufacturer for referrals, you would see the choice. This consumer can find another service, due to the lack of confidence in our methods/service. No more correspondence on this issue.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Apparently they must have so many complaints they can't keep them straight because I have never accused them of "kicking the dog while I'm not looking" and have no idea what they are referring to. I guess they aren't as organized and "premier" as they would have you believe.

As for the complaint they aren't even attempting to solve the issue. They are bowing out, "no more communication on this issue." That doesn't solve anything. I still have a freezer that they haven't fixed. They still haven't fulfilled the work order they were given by Lowes. All I can say is I hope Lowes recognizes that and does something to protect their future customers from having to deal with this horrible company.

Regards,

Stephanie Kelley

Again...

It's completely obvious that Capital City Appliance is not and has not done their job at this time to solve the problem so I will get it solved with honest, forthright and far more ethical people, the Lowe's warranty department.

Therefore I will close this case with extreme prejudice. Capital City Appliance has NOT solved my problem. They have NOT been honest and they have NOT done the right thing by the customer. They have NOT done what they were told to do by the company that hired them. Due to these reasons I am moving on and not wasting any more of my time on this worthless company.

Okay last time. We did everything that could be done. You have an ice maker that makes the noise. What part don't you understand. Please quit responding. Have a good day since you are moving on.

My ice maker stopped making ice but it wasn’t too big of a deal. At the same time, my fridge stopped cooling followed with periods of freezing over. I called the manufacturer and they recommended this company. Anyway, they came out and claimed my ice maker and fan were broken. I pay to have that all done and they claim all is fixed. A couple of days later, no ice, no improvement whatsoever in cooling. I call them again and they tell me that it must be the timer switch (over the phone). They came out and “verified” it definitely was the timer switch. They replaced it and claim all is fixed. A few days later, still nothing. No ice, no cooling. The issue has yet to be resolved. They came out a third time and claim “I just sprung a refrigerant leak” and that must be what was causing it all but I will have to pay more to fix it on top of having to call the manufacturer to give them permission to fix it. If you look up refrigerant leaks, it says the fridge won’t stay cool and can have periods of freezing over. If things can’t get cold enough, the ice maker won’t make ice. That sounds like the exact issue and clearly has been all along. It didn’t just happen as they claim. My ice maker was practically new. I highly doubted it could have broken. The fan as well as I had that replaced when I had the ice maker done. The timer switch, who knows bit diagnosing it over the phone sounded suspect. My friend called their customer service twice, to try to resolve the issues. The second time they thought he was me. Both times he got the same super rude lady who yelled and cussed at him. She refused to take any responsibility and refused any thought of a refund. I believe my new ice maker/fan was not the issue and not even broken. I believe, whether intentionally or due to lack of knowledge, they led me to believe that it was the issue. If they didn’t know what was wrong or couldn’t find it, they shouldn’t make stuff up and charge me for it. I am on disability with a very limited income. I can’t afford to be scammed.

RESPONSE: #***

So very sorry the customer feels this way but to tell the truth, after reviewing the situation with the technician, we find out the Mr. was in the kitchen with the technician and was shown that the ice maker was locked up, and not cycling. Also, the unit not cooling as well due to the evaporator completely frozen over caused by a bad defrost timer. The Mr. was there and was shown the ice block on the evaporator and the defective defrost timer. None of that is mentioned in the letter to the Revdex.com from the Mr. No fan was ever mentioned or touched or replaced. Then upon the technician return, the technician even went so far as to defrost the evaporator for the customer before installing the defrost timer.

When the evaporator freezes that badly, it can cause separation of the aluminum/copper connection at the evaporator that would not be detectable until the unit ran for some time and the leak detected. None of this important information was mentioned by the Mr., and to claim a scam, just does not fit this situation. If you are going to misrepresent, at least get some of the fact in your story. Interestingly enough, the Mr. signed the work order with the technician after these items were disclosed. Where is the deception here? No refund is due, but as a good gesture, I would be willing to refund the service call fee.

I am rejecting this response because:

Regards,

*** Henry I 'd like to apologize for any misunderstanding on my part in this issue. Unfortunately in the heat of the moment I let my temper get the most of me and spoke/acted in haste. Let me try to explain my position in this matter.

Not being trained in this field, I was perhaps confused with some of the terminology and workings of the refrigerator. I incorrectly stated the fan had been replaced when in fact it was the timer that runs the fan that was replaced. My main issue is that the freezer had the same amount of frost build up from day one of the service calls; nothing had changed over the course of a few days. After seeing the ice block and the amount of frost build up, I would think the repairman would have removed the back to examine the evaporator and check to see what was causing the problem. It wasn't until his final visit did he look at the evaporator. Had he checked it out on the first visit it would have saved me the cost of a new ice maker ($150.00) and timer ($19.00). I would have only been out the cost of a service call. I am now out $404.96, plus I have a brand new ice maker which is of no use to me now.

After thinking it over, it was wrong of me to accuse them of operating a scam. I don't believe anything was done intentionally however I do think more effort could have been put forth to better understand my position. I appreciate the offer to refund the service call fee but feel I am deserving of more.

I appreciate the offer to refund the service call fee but feel I am deserving of more.

I called them today about our Samsung frontload dryer that was making the most terrible squealing sound. I actually put off calling this company because of all the poor reviews. After calling two other companies (one who couldn't get me in until next week, the other wouldn't talk to me until I called Samsung to create a repair ticket) I decided to call Capital City Appliance. I spoke with a very nice woman who put me on hold to call the technician to see if he could fit us into his schedule. She came back on the line and told me he was in my area and would be there within 15 minutes!
Jerry P. arrived quickly, looked at the dryer, listened to it and knew immediately what the problem was. He told me he had the part on the truck and he could fix it immediately. The part that needed replaced was in the back of the dryer, behind the drum. He disassembled it all, fixed it and had it all back together in no time. All together, he was here for not even 30 minutes. He even helped me get my washer balanced correctly. He gave us advice on properly venting the dryer, having our ducts cleaned and even had stickers for our kids.
I highly recommend using this company! I will definitely use them again for any appliance issues that arise.

Thank you so much for giving us a chance. We have been in business 50 years come October 1st and people put a lot of things out there and give their side of the story only. We do our best to take care of the customer 1st and we truly appreciate each and every one of our customers. We run over 33,000 calls a year and I know you can not make everyone happy but we honestly do try. Thank you again!
