06/18/18 Contacted Whirlpool that dryer is not heating and there is a slight leak out of the washer front door.
06/22/18 1st visit. Repairman by name of Kipp looked over both washer and dryer. He indicated he had to order new seal/bellow for washer. He also changed heating element and some sensor and said that did not fix it. He said he needed to order a new motherboard and motor.
06/28/18 2nd visit. Same repairman came with motherboard but did not have motor. He said motherboard didn’t fix the issue that it must be motor or the sensors directly connected with motor. He changed the seal/bellow for washer.

Whirlpool Dryer Tech notes?7/5/18
Dryer still not fixed.
Techs 3rd. visit. Repairman Kipp. It seems he is changing out parts one at a time with no real idea of how to determine the root cause of the heating issue.
Claims the parts he received on 2 occasions were incorrect for this model dryer and the motor he requested after his 2nd. Visit was never ordered.
Asked him to go over each item he trouble shot after his failed 3rd. attempt. He refused!
Claimed it was due to the incorrect parts that were sent. I then asked why he did not verify the correct parts were on his truck before he wasted his time and mine. He replied “That’s not what I do.”
I then asked him to show me through the schematics what he checked. He refused! He said I could take the dryer apart myself and get the schematics if I wanted to look at them. I then asked if I could look at an electronic version on his laptop that was sitting on the counter beside us. Again he refused!
When I refused to sign the work order he reminded me that his notes affect the warranty.
I took that as him threatening me. Trying to get me to sign his work order.
During the time of the above he also looked at the Bellow of the washer that he changed in the second visit. We noticed it was holding water and it never did that before. He looked at it and said drain was clogged and he fixed it.
07/5/18 Called Capitol City Appliance and asked who the supervisor was and a lady said it was John. John was on the phone but she took our number and said she would have him call us. We did not receive a call back.
7/5/18 Called Whirlpool Customer Service and spoke with gentleman and explained what had occurred earlier. He advised that when he comes back to request him to call Tech Line Support. Questioned Capitol City Appliance workmanship and asked if there is a way to get 2nd opinion or different servicer. He indicated that they were the only provider in the area but he would put in request/inquiry on option of another servicer. He said if so we should get call within 48 hours.
07/6/18 Received a text from Capital City Appliance indicating parts have been order and we need to call to get on schedule. Since we did not hear anything back from Whirlpool on another option for servicer we called on 07/09/2018 and scheduled appointment on 07/11/2018.

Whirlpool Dryer Tech notes?07/11/2018
Techs 4th visit. Repairman Kipp. Upon arrival I asked him to call Whirlpool Tech Line Support. Whirlpool Customer Service indicated they will walk him through all trouble shooting and repair. He refused and said this will fix it.
He started with taking dryer apart and replaced the motor and fan. Through the process he seemed to be agitated and a bit rough on machine in process. This still did not fix the dryer. I again asked if he would call Tech Support and he refused. I asked if I could have the tech support number and I would call. He said it would do no good and said they are the only repair center for Whirlpool in the State of Ohio and if he can’t figure out he could technically pack up and leave and we would be out of luck. I felt as if he was threatening this in order to lay off of him calling his work in question or him calling Tech support.
He claims now that the dryer is not getting the proper power/amp. He says that it is getting 120 on one side and not the other. He said it is an electrical issue but he would check to make sure that it is plugged correctly. He pulled the machine out and pushed on the cord at the machine end. He then started it and it had heat. He said we told him it wasn’t an electrical issue at the onset so he didn’t check that and that was his mistake. I questioned why it didn’t get the “L2” code that the troubleshooting section of the manual indicated it should get. He said ‘I don’t know’. I again asked him to call Whirlpool Tech Support Line and he said why he has done all that he can.’ I requested just to make sure that the L2 safety is working. He refused to call and again said that I can.
I asked him to look at the washer again because it was holding water and not draining. I relayed to him that it must not have been tested after he cleaned drain on 3rd visit because the very first load I washed it held the water. He looked at it and said it will do that and these machines are known for that. He said he cleaned the drain again. I indicated that I wanted to start washer and see if it drained and it did not. He then aggressively was pulling on bellow and he took screwdriver and put a hole in it to get it to drain. I again tested it and just prior to him leaving noticed water coming out from underneath the machine and on my floor. Unbelievable! He advised me not to use until new part is ordered.
07/11/2018 After repairman had left received a call from Carrie at Whirlpool and she indicated that there is not another servicer in our area and they couldn’t get someone from another area until end of month. She advised me that Whirlpool has a program/option where we can get a repairman and they will reimburse. She said she would email us the information to do this. I went through briefly with her what we have been through. She was putting in a complaint and sending $50.00 card to us for our laundry expense. She said she didn’t see anything on our washer work but would look further into it and requested me to reply to her email with washer serial number and model. I advised I was also going to send in our notes. She will look into it further tomorrow when she returns to work.

07/12/2018 I called Capital City Appliance to get scheduled. She said first available is Tuesday, 7/17/18. I said that was not acceptable. They have scheduled for 07/13/2018.
07/13/2018 Techs 5th visit. Repairman Kipp. Replaced Bellow/Seal. It is draining as it should be now.

Yes the consumer is absolutely correct; it took too long to get the dryer completed. Unfortunately for us, there were electrical issues that caused difficult tracking and that cost all of us.

The text that I read was penned as if this person was present for all visits and at all times, which I know is not factual, and that I did not return a call, same there. My email was asked for and given in that conversation. So, at this point I am not going to address any further embellished statements and will close with, I am sorry for the delay but sometimes these types of jobs occur. All is repaired and functioning per specs from the manufacturer.

Tech was fine but office staff rude, inconsiderate and not accommodating at all when scheduling appointments for repairs. Its when they say or find another repair place. They only care about themselves and not the customers.

Capital City Appliance Service Response • May 21, 2018

The appointments for service have been scheduled and advised to customers we do route geographically. We do our best to accommodate all consumers, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate EVERYONE! The customer has been advised this on multiple occasions, however, she is very dissatisfied and argumentative with the office staff and/or manager on duty. At this time, CCAS has declined further service. We opt to work with patrons that respect our services, and appreciate the service we do provide!

At the end of his day, service technician, Jerry P, was very professional and especially conscientious making sure we understood what was wrong with and what our options were for both our broken refrigerator and washing machine. He even made the extra effort to drive back to his office to get a part so we would not have to wait through the weekend before we could get our fridge working. My wife and I were very pleased.

This is one of the friendliest, efficient, and accommodating appliance services I have ever encountered. Specifically, serviceman Jerry P. was prompt (after calling ahead with his eta) and worked quickly to diagnose the issues with our dishwasher. He immediately found replacement parts and was able to return on the same day to complete all repairs. He had additional advice about the machine which I was grateful to know. I liked that he verified to my husband and me the exact trouble areas and explained their causes.
The receptionist taking my initial call was helpful and listened carefully while I explained what I thought the problems were. She returned a call as soon as she'd received confirmation that the serviceman had procured the parts.

Capital City serviced my Bosch dishwasher for a recall today. It involved installing a new electrical box, connecting the electrical source wiring and the plug to the dishwasher. After it was complete I noticed there was exposed copper wiring where the wire enters the box. I asked about it and the tech said that is the was it was. I have never noticed it. Even this morning when I was looking under the sink to prepare for the visit. So I called about it. The lady I talked to called the tech. He said that is the way it was when he arrived so he assumed I knew it and was not going to say anything. So to me that basically says "your dishwasher was wired in a dangerous way but I figured you knew that so I wired it to be dangerous also and never told you. No person working with electric should ever wire something with an exposed copper wire, not to mention, under a sink. So the response was basically either I am stupid or lying.

Jerry P went above and beyond to diagnose a problem with the hood above our cook top. He also serviced the gas cooktop and shared helpful tips for ongoing maintenance. Will definitely call Capital City Appliance in the future.

I bought a fridge in Dec of 2017. It was a floor model but I was told it would have a year warranty from the date of purchase. The ice maker has leaked since I bought it. Basically the ice maker would make ice but then somehow the ice would somewhat melt and clump together and leak water into the ice shoot and all down the front of the fridge. This happened right when I boughr the fridge before I ever installed a filter. I thought maybe it was because it needed a filter. So I installed one but it kept leaking. I turned off the ice maker and contacted Whirlpool to have it repaired. Shortly after I turned off the ice maker the fridge also started leaking from the bottom of the fridge. Capital City was the only repair company that is authorized to repair Whirlpool products so I was forced to use them because it is definitely a warranty covered issue. When Capital City came to repair it they replaced the guts of the ice maker because they said all of them were having issues with the ice maker so they just go ahead and replace them. They told me to stop using cheap filters. They also told me I needed to defrost the fridge because the drain was frozen (that was what was causing the bottom of the fridge to leak). So the ice maker leaking caused the drain to clog and freeze with ice. I knew the filter wasn't the problem because the ice maker was leaking even before I had a filter, however I went to Home Depot to buy a better filter. Home Depot assured me their HDX brand filter was equal to whirlpools oem part so I purchased it. I installed the filter and also defrosted the fridge for over 24 hours which caused a huge mess all over my kitchen floor and leaked into my basement. Once turned back on the ice maker started making ice and after a while was still leaking so I scheduled another repair. The repair person came out... looked at they ice and said the water is contaminated (ice was grey) he said I didn't have the OEM filter and refused to work on it. They basically said I was voiding the warranty not using an OEM filter. They told us we need to install an OEM filter and purge the system. So again I'm going to say... the filter has nothing to do with the leaking because it leaked before it had any filter. After this visit the ice maker didn't produce any ice so I assumed the repair tech turned off the ice maker. I ordered an OEM filter and installed it. I then tried to turn on the ice maker to finish purging the system like they said. It wasn't turned off on the control panel and the arm inside the ice maker doesn't stay up so that couldn't be it either. I called Capital City Appliance repair company to find out what they did to turn off the ice. They said they did nothing to turn it off. They basically argued with me on the phone saying the tech couldn't have done anything except lift the lever to turn it off. It is very hard for me to believe they did nothing because it would be a huge coincidence that the ice maker would completely stop working at the same time the repair tech was there. I explained to them I purged the water but I couldn't purge the ice because it isnt producing ice. They scheduled another appointment to come out. I then received a call back from the company stating if they come out and there is a water quality issue or I was still not using and OEM filter I would be charged a service call. I called them back and again explained I installed an OEM filter and purged the water but couldn't purge the ice maker because it hasnt produced ice since the last tech was there. I told her I would not pay a service call. She found it hard to beleive that it hadnt produced ice since the tech was there because I didnt call earlier. I explained I assumed the tech turned it off until I got the new filter. She basically kept repeating herself saying she was just relaying the message from her supervisor. I asked to speak to the supervisor but he just happened to have just left for lunch. I asked to receive a call back. I never received a call back from the Supervisor. The repair tech came to my house and tried to charge the service call (my dad was there because I cannot take time off work). I had already told him not to pay anything. So from what my dad said the reason the ice maker was no longer making ice was a valve needs replaced. The repair person said they couldn't fix it because they would need to order the parts. So it was my understanding they were going to fix it and the service call fee was taken care of. I did not receive an email with an explanation of what occurred so I called to ask for them to email me. The person I spoke to said they would not give me a copy of anything until I paid the service call. I explained yet again I was not paying a service call and previously asked for a supervisor to call me. She said well there isn't anything in the notes saying you want to speak to a supervisor from the tech. I explained that I wanted a supervisor to call me before they even came out which I never received the call. She proceeded to say that she could help me that I didn't need to speak to a supervisor. Absolutely nothing was accomplished with that conversation Capital City is saying the valve is clogged but the lady couldn't tell me with what but she guessed it was the charcoal from the bad filter. She reiterated they would not give me any paperwork saying anything until I paid the service call. Basically my fridge is still broke and I still find it hard to believe it is a coincidence it broke on the same day they were at not house and they didn't break it. Meanwhile if I pay to have the valve replaced which they say is not a covered part because it was from a faulty filter... the leaking is still not going to be fixed. Capital City has never addressed the actual problem of the leaking. I found out from my father that the tech removed ice from the line and didn't say anything about charcoal being in the line. I have spent over 150.00 on filters not to mention what I paid for the fridge that has never worked right and am worse off than when I started since my old fridge worked perfect. The fridge filters I used on my last fridge were the same brands I used with this fridge except that fridge worked perfect for over 5 years. I am very upset with the customer service I have received from Capital City Appliance Repair they are extremely combative when you bring an issue to their attention and is quite obvious they had no intention to have a supervisor contact me back. I feel this company is just out to take people's money.

Capital City Appliance Service Response • Mar 01, 2018

As is usually the case, the person complaining has not been present for the service visits. The issues were explained to the person present. Now, the original issue of leaking was addressed, clogged drain, and at same time ice maker was replaced due to intermittent fill issues. This was done on 1/24/18. At that time they were informed to change the generic filter to an OEM part. On 2/6/18 we returned for leaking issue to find yet another non specified filter in the refrigerator. HDX brand that had broken down internally and contaminated the H20 system. They were informed of the cause/effect at that time again. On 2/22/18 another trip to confirm H20 system was causing the issue due to valve not able to seal off from debris in it from previous allowing water to seep through thus causing fill tube leaking and freezing issues. We informed them before booking of the service call fee if that was the issue and reiterated that before arrival. At that time of service we informed them of the issue and it was not covered by warranty, due to previous, and manufacturer was not responsible for repair. They refused to pay the service call fee and refused the repair. The repair can be made if they pay their service call fee and appropriate parts and labor.

Customer Response • Mar 13, 2018

My apologies, I am just now seeing where the company has responded to the original complaint. It would be nice if a customer could receive another email before the complaint is closed to remind them to reply (or to make sure they saw the original email). Or maybe a phone call would be nice. Please re-open my complaint and add my response to the complaint. The original repair has not fixed the water leaking down the front of my fridge. Whatever repair they completed actually made the problem worse because now the water leaks down the front of the fridge and tube on top of the fridge freezes over. The original problem where water was leaking down the front of my fridge from the ice maker has NEVER been fixed. This is not a filter issue and never has been. Capital City has told multiple people I have complained about gray ice which I have never complained about. We have spoken to Whirlpool multiple times and they were going to try to send Capital City out one last time but they refused due to the service call that is supposedly due which I told them before they even came out I would NOT pay so they should have refused to come out at that time. When I told them I would not pay a service call I also asked for a Supervisor to contact me back before the repair technician came to my home which never happened. Whirlpool is sending a company from another area out to assess and fix the leaking fridge that Capital City has NEVER been able to fix. I have also lodged a formal complaint with Whirlpool and it has been escalated up the chain. There must be some validity to my claim since the new repair company has already ordered multiple parts and will be coming out to fix the fridge. Capital City's customer service skills and their lack of appliance repair knowledge is unexplainable. I guess that is what you get when you are the only company in the great Columbus area handling warranty repairs... you can try to "steal" peoples money by charging service calls when they couldn't repair the actual problem to begin with.Thank you
