Review: I have never used Capital One services. But they have created a huge problem for me.
I recently moved from Iowa City to Albany. I went to open a bank account and was informed that I have a lower credit score because Capital One has reported to the credit bureau that I owe them $128. The truth is that I don't have any dealings/accounts with Capital One. I tried calling Capital One to fix it, since my credit rating is lowered due to their report, in November 2014. I called 3 times.
Capital One says that they don't have me in their system. They want ME to get a credit report and send them my details.
I moved recently, the Credit bureaus will not give me my credit report. I have tried to file the request but they have denied it.
So now, I have a lower credit score becasue of Capital One reporting that I owe them money. But I have never previously had any accounts with Capital One. Though they have made a huge mistake, they won't correct it unless I send them my credit report. But I can't get a credit report since I moved recently. So basically I am stuck because of the poor work and wrong reporting done to the credit bureaus, by Capital One.
Can you please have Capital One take the responsibility to clear my name, since I have never owed them anything ever. And if I do owe them (which is impossible), they should have the decency of contacting me directly. They cannot harm citizens this way. They are trying to destroy lives. I have many students that I teach and will have to warn my students to be very vigilant of companies like Capital One, which can destroy them.
Thanks much,

Review: My $975.00 rent check for May was fraudulently deposited by a Capital One bank in Richmond, VA--the company's headquarters. I've been working with my bank, ** for the last 7 months. For over half a year Capital One has refused to answer/acknowledge multiple overtures and inquires.
After going over the check's fraudulent endorsing from Capital One, a representative from ** said it looks like the it was done internally. I am currently a Capital One card holder and I am now extremely concerned about my account and consumer security.Desired Settlement: I would like Capital One, Inc. and ** to effectively resolve this matter and explain why my security was breached.*

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
They document they made inquiries of my credit bureau accounts. That supports my complaint.
Review: Capital One: As I have written to you before, I did not incur this charge. The original charge was for $386.49. Even after I informed Capital One in writing that the charge was fraudulent, Capital One has chosen to continue to pursue the charge against me. Capital One has also attached subsequent charges bringing the total up to $417.46, even though I reported the charges as fraudulent prior to the accrual of any interest, late fee or penalty. I am not paying this charge; not the principal, not the interest, not the penalty. As I explained in my last letter, it has been fully 5 years since I used this Capital One credit card. In terms of consumer protection, it is completely unacceptable that Capital One would accept without question a charge against an account that had been dormant for 5 years. I feel confident that any jury would concur with that conclusion. Further, since my Capital One account has not been in use for 5 years, I strongly suspect that the misuse of the account came from within Capital One. I do not see how else the credit card number could have been accessed. Again, this constitutes a breach of even the most basic consumer protection. I am again asking you to cease and desist in harassing me about these charges that you in negligence accepted. I am distributing this second reply to certain consumer protection advocates, for their awareness. IfCapital One continues to harass me in this matter I will file formal grievances with consumer protection advocates. Sincerely, [redacted] Cc: [redacted], [redacted]Desired Settlement: Unspecified

Review: My [redacted] was repossed around November 5, 2014. I do understand that it was my fault that I defaulted, but Capitol One sent me numerous letters stating that I had a couple of options if I wanted my car back. The first was pay in full the rest of my loan (over $10,000) or attend a public auction held for the [redacted]. I thought that I would be able to pay the company a portion of that, but they claimed their policy is to pay in full once the car is a repo (not in any of my paperwork). I knew that I didn't have the $10,000 so I was depending on the public auction to be able to get my car back. I was in constant contact with the repo company and Capitol One. Capitol One Auto Financing Company knew that the company, [redacted], did not hold public auctions only private and this was told to me from United Auto Recovery. They also told me that they list the cars in the paper for a few weeks and that was not done. Capitol One sold my car for $5300 dollars, and the [redacted] value of my car is $5500. This is too much of a coincidence.Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

Review: May 2013, I paid my Capital one bill online; I usually pay it over the phone but, that month my daughter graduated college, the same day it was her birthday and she got married that same week. Initially, when I paid my bill, the payment amount was supposed to be $15.00, but, somehow, the payment amount ended up being $300.00. I found out 3 days later when I called to check if the payment had gone through. I constantly monitor everything because I cant afford any type of fee's. Overdrafts, over limit or late fee's. As soon as I found out I immediately called Capital One to inform them; I only wanted them to receive $15.00 not $300.00. The [redacted] @Capital One instructed me to send a fax of proof that I received an overdraft fee and I would be credited once they had proof of the overdraft. I jumped up, the same day, and ran to the bank to get proof of the transaction. At that time, I was told, the overdraft was not official because, it had just happened so my bank gave me a sheet of the transaction and said they couldn't send the fax for me that day. I went back home and faxed the paper from my home and my bank called the paper,"DDA statement Inquiry", dated 5-24-13. Furthermore, I also faxed a letter explaining what had happened to Capital One's Payment Investigation Department. Meanwhile, no action was taken by Capital One and, my bank had an overdraft. I kept calling to see when it would clear up and after several calls I was told to send another fax to the Fraud department @Capital One. Still no action was taken. Afterwards, I called again and someone told me they never received the $300.00. So they didn't need to give anything back. Then someone else @Capital One told me they still needed the $15.00; so I said,"Alright, take the $15.00'. They appeared to take it, but I don't know if they did or didn't. It is now November, 6 months later and still not resolved. Capital One is requesting $700.00 my credit limit was only $300.00. Every time I call no one tells me why the amount jumped to $700.00 when I only owed them $300.00. My bank investigated the matter and closed it but I don't know if Capital One paid back the money to my bank or if my bank gave them any money. Every time I ask no one tells me what happened. Furthermore, before this incident I paid Capital One on time every month and was in good standing. I don't know what else to do to straighten out this matter. Capital One continues to send incorrect statements and when I call to ask why they continue to tell me to pay double the money I owe and I still don't know why. On top of that, this credit card, is going to charge off, according to the incorrect monthly statements' they continue to send. Please help me; this has been overwhelmingly exhausting.Desired Settlement: Want to resume my regular monthly payments. Want them to explain what caused my card to jump up to $700.00. I just want my credit to be straightened up.

Review: I have held this credit card since 2004-I was being billed an annual membership fee of $29.00. I paid the card off last year and contacted the company and informed them that I paid the card off and did not wish to continue with the card if it had a fee annually. When I reviewed my online bills they again charged the $29.00 fee even though I never activated the current card to even utilize the account-I called 2 different people in their customer service department who refused to credit the fee despite me closing the account with them and never activating the new card for this account to even utilize it.Desired Settlement: $29.00 fee from Capital One removed from my account. I was never even mailed a statement of this charge it was just placed on the account then marked late and charged interest fees (they did credit the late fees)

I contacted capital one,the fraud department agreed this was a cause of fraud.like I told them I applied for a secured card on december 10th 2014 and a business card august 2014.the rest were not done by me.as for 6 inquiries.thats 6 per credit agency total of 18.why did the capital one fraud department agree to send letters to credit bureaus.now you have a different answer.this is very damaging to my credit report im trying to fix.I want 12 removed from my credit reports and stop accepting applications in my name.as for the letters you sent.I have never seen any letters sent to this address.so now where are they getting sent to?all I want is 12 inquiries I didnt not apply for or give anyone permission to apply for.also for you to stop any applications sent in with my name on them.

Review: Ref Acct# [redacted] On March 12th, I got a credit report alert that negative information was posted to my credit report.
I logged in to see the details and noticed that it was for Capital One for a 30 day late.
This cause my score to drop a whopping 65 points! I was irate(still am)!
This is bad as we are to refinance our house in April.
Doing some due diligence, I have looked at what caused it.
I logged into my account as I have not had any communications with Capital One regarding a bill either via email or paper.
I then noticed that I had a balance on the account of $330.46. I thought that was a bit high.
I looked deeper into the previous statements and noticed two late fees:
02/04/2014: $25.00
03/04/2014: $35.00
I immediately paid the FULL balance of $330.46
I never gotten an email about statement nor a paper statement
Then I noticed that my account had a message, so I read it:
It was dated 01/18/2014 and the summary stated it could not send me an email, but nothing has changed, my email address is the same for 10+ years and nothing occurred to force blocking.
Once this occurred, why couldn't Capital One notify me via postal mail?
I then talked with the account team via chat and they said that I needed to file a credit report dispute.
Why do I need to do that when its truly an error on Capital One's part?
Here is the message I received:

Review: This company provided an auto loan to me for a vehicle. The vehicle was still under lien, and was fully insured. I was unfortunately a victim of the Joplin tornado in May 2011, and the vehicle was a total loss. Review: https://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/platinum/
The above website link contains the advertisement for the Platinum card. Under these pretenses, I signed up for a card awhile back. I was charged an annual fee of $19 this month. The website advertisement clearly states $0 annual fee. I called into Capital One. The first time, I was on hold and the representative eventually hung up on me. The second time, the representative and supervisor waived the fee this year but were unable to explain why there is an annual fee.
On the back of my billing statement under "Are there any Additional Fees on my account?", there is no mention of annual fee or membership fee.
On the back of my billing statement under, "How can I Avoid Membership Fees"?, it says, "If a Renewal Notice is printed on the front of this statement, you may avoid paying the annual membership fee by contacting Customer Service....." This is considered false advertising. You advertised no annual fee. I received a renewal notice and an annual fee on my bill.
I have had this card for two years and have already been charged an annual fee twice. My complaint concerns: a Credit CardDesired Settlement: While the representative waived my fee this year, I would each subsequent year waived as well. I would like a reply as to why you advertise no annual fee, yet you charged me an annual fee for the past two years while owning the card for two years. I would like you to modify your website to reflect the $19 annual fee. I expect it to be clearly visible as you are committing false advertising.

Review: Capital one took an unauthorized amount of $200 from my checking account. They gave me the run around by apologizing, asking me to place a stop payment through my bank for a payment that they already took out, which was impossible, and their employees , including supervisors lied to me about how I was going to get my money back for a canceled application. They assured me no money would be that no money would be taken from my account and they took it anyway. Then told me they would send me a check in 14 days. This has caused a lot of stress and anxiety because I spent money using my debit card based on knowing my money is in my account. They are very unprofessional, told lies, and unsympathetic about giving me my money back.My complaint concerns: a Banking Account (Checking)Desired Settlement: I would like my funds to be reversed immediately back into my checking account. I'm a veteran that need my money. Request retraining of staff so they know their company policies and procedures so they can better serve the public.

Review: A Capital One representative recommended I get into a new credit card with a better rate and rewards. I asked if closing my old account would affect my credit score to which the representative told me it would not. I opened the new account and closed/paid off the old one and my credit score dropped significantly. I called Capital One to see if they could do anything about this given the assurances they made to me. The representative apologized profusely yet they assured me there was nothing they could do on their end as it was submitted to the credit bureau. So now I have a reduced credit score because of the assurances given to me by Capital One even though I have never missed a payment nor do I ever utilize more than 4% of my credit limit.Desired Settlement: I wish that Capital One could follow through with the credit bureau to remedy the drop in my credit score based on the information they provided that I acted on.
