I am writing to you about my account number *** with Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC). I am unclear of their ability to collect this debt and I dispute the amount due. The company added a collection cost of 24.34% resulting in an additional $19,470.35 added to what they claim to be the initial loan. ECMC stated that the collection costs are recalculated annually. The order in which my payment will be applied is 1. outstanding costs, 2. incidental charges, 3. accrued interest and 4. principal. I have no understanding of what these incidental charges may be or the outstanding costs.

Started calling my phone without my consent telling me that they are planning on garnishing my wages, and after telling them that I don't have the money to pay back the 4,000 in Student Loans and asking to speak with a supervisor, I was told that there wasn't one available to speak to. Hilarious.

Under the settlement agreement with Career Education Corp. (CEC) and the states attorneys general in January of 2019, including the Indiana Attorney General, beginning on February 1st, 2019, American InterContinental Univeristy forego-ed collection on any outstanding balance (including interest and fees) I owed to AIU. The balance was reduced to $0 and they advised to let all parties involved know it was reduced to $0, as well as they were to contact the 3 credit reporting agencies to have all history regarding this account removed.

ECMC holds these loans. Not only is my pay check being garnished for this loan, on August 7th, 2019, my tax return in the amount of $2460.99 was diverted to ECMC. I need to get this resolved and get that money back to me as soon as possible.

Efforts to reach ECMC have failed as their website always throws an "undergoing maintenance to better serve you" after I filled out the form and spent the time typing up the issue. Reaching them by phone has proven difficult as well. Something that made national headlines back in January directly affecting the loans that they services shouldn't require me to jump through hoops to make sure they do what should have already been done.

This is in response to your complaint filed with the Revdex.com concerning your defaulted federal student loans guaranteed by Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC). On August 19, 2019, you spoke with Diane ***, ECMC Ombudsman/Sr. Manager, regarding your concerns. If you have any additional questions or concerns please contact Ms. at .

In early August I was contacted at my place of employment regarding a school loan that I had supposedly defaulted on. When she gave me the social security number, I advised her that that was not my social security number, I had never even received a school loan and please remove my information from the account and not to call my employer again. Yesterday, My employer received am order of withholding from earnings with my name and the social security number of the actual person owing this debt. My employer was told to just dispose of the letter and no further action was needed. I am not at all comfortable with the idea that a company can just send out letters to POE's requesting garnishment. I also cannot believe that they just send out information with Social Security Numbers. When I called them, I spoke with Monica (and she was proud to give her name and say that she was the ONLY Monica in the company) and I must say she was very unprofessional. This company needs to be more thorough.

This is in response to your complaint filed with the Revdex.com on August 15, 2019 in regards to a representative from Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC) contacting you about student loans that are not yours. In your complaint you indicate ECMC contacted you at work and sent an Administrative Wage Garnishment (AWG) order to your employer. That order listed your first and last name but contained a social security number that did not belong to you, which was verified by your employer. You state you do not have an account with ECMC.Please note, ECMC is a federal guaranty agency operating in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). Pursuant to federal law (20 U.S.C. § 1095a et seq.), ECMC has the authority to order an employer to withhold 15% of disposable income for payment towards a defaulted federal student loan. On June 28, 2019, an ECMC representative contacted your employer to verify employment for a ***. At that time they provided the full social security number (SSN) for verification. The manager on the line confirmed they had an employee matching the information provided by the ECMC representative. As a result of the confirmation, an AWG order was sent to your employer. When your employer received the AWG order on August 14, 2019, they determined it was not a match and contacted ECMC stating the social security number and date of birth for the employee listed on the order did not match their records. The acknowledgement process is a second step required to occur in order to once again confirm the correct person has been identified for garnishment. As a result, ECMC updated the account and removed your employer information. In addition, the telephone number ECMC used to contact you at work was flagged as do not call that same day. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused you.Your complaint states an ECMC representative named Monica was unprofessional. I PERSONALLY took the call and confirmed that that was NOT my Social Security Number and I AM the Office Manager. I know that standard procedure for employment verification is that you get the name of the person they spoke with. Can they confirm that? Complaint #***.

This company started garnishing my wages in February 2019. The debt was paid in full on July 17, 2019. They have taken 93.86 mire than the debt and now they are telling me it will take 60 days to return. That is entirely to long. And I wrote to them at the time taking 15% of my income would put me In a financial hardship but they did anyway. Now that I have paid it off, I want the money I am owed and it shouldn’t take more than a normal return, which is no longer than 14 days.
